Instead of giving her servants only one gold, Liu Tián Qǔ had given her servants ten gold each. Ten gold was an extremely excessive amount of money to give a slave. Not even the scions of Nobility or the scions of wealthy prominent families receive Ten gold for their monthly allowances. Not one of the Liu Residence slaves ever had so much money in their life. Every slave of Liu Residence left in a complete daze.
Liu Tián Qǔ found pleasure in giving the slaves gold from Big Madam Chen's treasures, 'Ah, Big Madam Chen must be rolling over in her grave.' Liu Tián Qǔ had thought to herself with a big grin on her face. 'She plotted, schemed, and murdered people to acquire her treasures. Now slaves are spending it on a day out on the town.' Liu Tián Qǔ was in an excellent mood after handing out Big Madam Chen's gold to the slaves.
Along with the gold given, Liu Tián Qǔ gave special orders to her servants. She ordered that before they went off to enjoy their week, first, they were all required to buy a lavish set of clothes, shoes, and accessories, change into them, and then have a day out on the town.
Liu Tián Qǔ ordered them to dine in the most expensive restaurants and order the most expensive dishes. Patronize expensive places of entertainment, visit the best music pavilions, theater pavilions, tea houses, wine houses, and just generally have fun. She told them to spend all the gold living like a rich person for one day. She also reminded them to save one gold for their living expenses for the week.
Liu Tián Qǔ had given her servants leave to spread the news that they were rewarded with gold just for being a servant of Liu Residence and that the slaves of Liu Residence also received wages. She gave them the go-ahead to spread the news that every servant of Liu Residence, both male and female, free and slaves alike were being taught to read, write, and do sums. She had them also spread the news that once a year, an annual review would be given, and depending on their performance throughout the year, everyone was given the opportunity to buy back their slave contract. Liu Tián Qǔ repeatedly reminded her servants that they were not to give out any information of the Lord of Liu Residence and that they were to be mindful of their deportment.
During her breakfast with Wang Fèn Yǒng, Liu Tián Qǔ had ran her idea by him. The one thing that worried her the most was the safety of the servants and slaves. Not even free commoners had ten gold much less for Liu Tián Qǔ turn around and give it to slaves. Giving them that much gold was enough to get them killed.
Liu Tián Qǔ was ready to forget the whole idea when Wang Fèn Yǒng told Liu Tián Qǔ to tell the servants to stay in groups and to stay in the busier sections of the city and entertainment districts. Wang Fèn Yǒng called in some of his Dark Blood Warriors and assigned disguised Dark Blood Warriors to each group of servants. He also called in teams of Shadow Warriors to keep watch over the servants from the shadows.
Liu Tián Qǔ thought that was sufficient enough to keep everyone safe. However, Wang Fèn Yǒng didn't. He took it upon himself to send the word out to the underground world and small-time criminals in the Imperial City that the Liu Residence servants were not to be touch or else.
Liu Tián Qǔ had felt overwhelmed at Wang Fèn Yǒng support. At first, she had thought that Wang Fèn Yǒng's security measures were a bit overkill. However, her opinion quickly changed when Wang Fèn Yǒng informed her that the tasks she assigned to her servants were going to shake the foundation of the Tolling Lands.
Liu Tián Qǔ didn't consider that when she entrusted her servants to the tasks she gave them. She had only wanted to send the nobles and members of the Imperial court that came after her a very heavy slap.
Wang Fèn Yǒng still didn't feel his security measures were enough, so he went to have a discussion concerning the matter with his father, the Grand Prince. After their conversation, immediately, hundreds of extra Patrol Guards took to the streets of the Imperial City. They were given the order to be extra vigilant.
When Liu Tián Qǔ realized the gravity of the wheel she set into motion, she wanted to scrap the whole idea, but Wang Fèn Yǒng discouraged her from doing so. In his normal ice-cold voice, he informed her that it was time for things to be shaken up a bit. Wang Fèn Yǒng was also displeased with the members of the Imperial court and nobles of high-society, that had gone after his woman.
**************************
In the clothing and shoe shops that catered to the members of the Nobility and the people of influential wealthy families of high-society, the owners of the clothes and shoe shops almost had a nervous breakdown. The servants of Liu Residence walked into the shops in their Liu Residence uniform only to walk out in lavish clothes.
Several of the clothing and shoe shops didn't want to cater to the servants, but the word of how the Emperor shielded the Lord of Liu Residence had already spread, so they didn't dare to offend. In many of the shops that the servants patronized, members of the Nobility, and the members of influential wealthy families were often seen angrily stalking out of the shop that the servants had gathered in to purchase their clothes.
In several brothels and gambling houses, only the presence of the disguised Dark Blood Warriors kept the male servants of Liu Residence from being soundly thrashed by noblemen, and the men of influential wealthy families. These men were utterly outraged and furious that they had to share the favors of the courtesans they were interested in with slaves.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
In fear, some of the courtesans refused to serve the slaves of Liu Residence. Some of the popular courtesans didn't care and served the servants anyway. However, most of them felt it was beneath them to serve slaves. Some were scared that if they served the slaves, no rich or noblemen would want them afterward. In order not to offend the Lord of Liu Residence, the cunning brothel owners sent their most famous courtesans back and had the most unpopular courtesans serve the slaves. After all, the slaves were spending gold, so why turn them away?
In an expensive restaurant, several noblewomen had deep scowls on their faces as they listen to the conversation of several gossiping women. These women were dressed in clothes that were more expensive than those of the noblewomen, so at first, the noblewomen thought these women were nobles that were new to the Imperial City. As they listen to the gossip of the richly dressed women, their scowl turned into deep utter astonishment and horror.
The woman ate the most expensive dishes of the restaurant and gossiped about being a servant of Liu Residence. The restaurant grew extremely quiet, and everyone strained to hear the conversation of the richly dressed servants of Liu Residence. This particular restaurant was one of the best restaurants in the Imperial City. Only rich people dined there.
Many of the richly dressed nobles men and women gawked mouth wide open in complete shock, horror, and anger as the women gossip about working hard to pass the annual review so they could buy back their slave contract. The women gossiped about how they loved working at the new Liu Garden residence and how they loved their master for hiring scholars of the Imperial Academy to come and teach every servant and slave of Liu Residence how to read, write, and do sums. They also gossip that they were so glad that even though they were slaves, they received a wage just like regular servants.
The hearts of the servants of the restaurant who served the women shook. If anyone told them that they would one day serve slaves who dressed more extravagantly then nobles, they would have cursed that person to death. The poor servants of the restaurant were in such shock they could barely carry out their duties.
Scene of similarity played out in many expensive restaurants, wine houses, tea houses, brothels, and many places of entertainment. It was as though a silence bomb went off in the Imperial City and rippled outward.
Slaves of Liu Residence were dressed better than nobles? Slaves that were taught to read and write when even many noblewomen were discouraged and denied that opportunity? Slaves that were given an opportunity to buy back their freedom? Slaves, that could afford to purchase the affection of expensive courtesans? Slaves that received wages? Slaves that could afford expensive entertainment?
Many commoners ran to see the slaves that dressed more richly then nobles. Crowds of commoners stood outside of expensive restaurants, wine houses, brothels, and many places of entertainment to catch a glimpse of the slaves.
If the various nobles weren't afraid of being shipped off to jail to join the scions already sitting in jail, they would have all ran over to burn down Liu Residence. Many of the nobles didn't fear going to jail. However, they did fear the wrath of the Emperor. The Emperor was obviously protecting the Lord of Liu Residence, so they dared not act.
Throughout the course of the day in six separate incidents, six criminals were cut down where they stood after trying to rob Liu Residence servants. In two cases, if it weren't for the quick reaction of the Dark Blood Warriors that were in disguise amongst the servants, those two servants would have met their demise.
Wang Fèn Yǒng reaction to these offenses was fast. Each of the six criminals where investigated. Four were small-time independent criminals. One was affiliated with a large crime organization, and the fifth could not be identified. Wang Fèn Yǒng decided to send a message to the underworld. The families of the four small-time independent criminals were immediately eliminated.
Wang Fèn Yǒng personally led the Wang Manor Warriors and Dark Blood Warriors and completely wiped out the large crime organization pulling them up by the roots and razing all the property and businesses of the criminal organization to the ground. It took him the better part of the late afternoon and early evening to accomplish what he set out to do, but he got it done.
This caused a massive stir amongst the organizations of the underworld, but by the end of the day, not one criminal dared to walk to close to the richly dressed servants that took over the imperial city.
The servants got into the swing of things and were living the day as if it was their last. All over the Imperial city, the extravagantly dressed servants partied, drank, watched shows, visited gambling houses, listened to music in the most famous music pavillions that only the wealthiest could afford to attend. They visited the best tea houses and wine houses, dined in the best of restaurants, and the men relieved themselves in some of the best brothels in the Imperial City.
As the servants partied to their heart's content, the fallout of the silent bomb that went off in the heart of the Imperial city had begun.
That day there was no peace in any of the houses of the Ministers, Nobles, and Officials. Cold wars, verbal wars, and in some cases, physical violence shook the homes of the Nobility. However, this not only affected the members of the Imperial court, every ordinary rich family, prominent wealthy family, and the merchant houses in the Imperial City were affected. Even businesses that used slave labor were hit a heavy blow.
Many noblewomen and women of prominent wealthy families of high-society who were denied education ran home to fight with their husbands, fathers, and male relatives. Why are slaves being taught to read and write yet, noblewoman was denied that right? Since when slaves were allowed to live better than nobles?!
In the manors of just about every rich person in the Imperial city, gloomy slaves and servants huddled in corners whispering of the rights that the Liu Residence slaves were afforded. Yet they weren't even treated as a human. Many rich people suddenly grew wary of their slaves that day. The slaves and servants looked as if they were ready to revolt at any given moment.
That day the Lord of Liu Residence became known to every home that had slaves whether they were of Nobility or not. The Young Lord sent them such a heavy blow to the face how could they not know of the Lord of Liu Residence?
All of the ordinary rich people viciously cursed the nobles for going to mess with the Lord of Liu Residence. They then curse the Lord of Liu Residence for being so indiscriminate. If you want to punish the nobles, then go punish them! Why must innocent bystanders suffer just because they are rich and have slaves?
