In the end, even if she couldn't win those men over, she will still benefit significantly from them. As long as Jiang Tài Píng and his family were in her Residence, those men would protect her Residence with their life anyway. So what was the problem? If she needed anything of them, she was confident she could manipulate them to her own advantage. This was a win-win situation for her.
Liu Tián Qǔ was not a person who had to have the absolute obedience of every single person in her residence. As long as her bottom lines weren't crossed and the rules weren't broken. Then it was okay with her.
Liu Tián Qǔ begin to play dumb. With a false frown on her face, Liu Tián Qǔ said, "How are your Martial Uncles and the Martial Elders sending you protection a problem? They should have sent you protection long ago! What took them so long? Your wife almost died what was they doing all this time!?" Liu Tián Qǔ inwardly laughed at the reaction of the couple.
Outwardly Liu Tián Qǔ scowled and heavily scolded Jiang Tài Píng's martial uncles and the martial elders.
Jiang Mín Yuè jerked upright in her seat and gasped in shock at Liu Tián Qǔ's daring. She couldn't believe that Liu Tián Qǔ had the audacity to scold men that practically ran the Martial World in this part of the Tolling Lands. Her eyes had popped open wide, and her lips begin to flap open and close. She wanted to warn Liu Tián Qǔ not to be so daring, but she couldn't seem to gather her thoughts enough to form a sentence.
Jiang Tài Píng almost fell out of his seat in shock. He knew that his new Young Lord was daring, but this is too much. He had also opened his mouth to tell his new younger brother not to be so bold. However, his lips couldn't seem to form the word to tell his new younger brother. Jiang Tài Píng sat haphazardly on in his seat, gawking at his new younger brother with his lips flapping open and closed.
Liu Tián Qǔ didn't realize that by now, she was scowling for true at the shocked Commander and his wife speechless. "Give me their information. I must write a letter to them expressing my displeasure. They have done a poor job of protecting you. I could have lost a brother and a friend."
Liu Tián Qǔ started out joking. She didn't realize when she got serious. 'They want to send protection now? Where was Jiang Tài Píng protection when he fell into the hands of Minister Peng in my predecessor's past life. Ah!? You allowed Jiang Tài Píng to fall into Prime Minister Peng trap and destroy himself. Now you want to send protection? Yes, you avenged Jiang Tài Píng in his past life by killing the whole Josper Imperial Family and burning the Imperial Palace to the ground later after finding out the truth. However, prevention is better than cure! Why did you allow him to come to the Imperial City by himself, Ah?!'
In Liu Tián Qǔ predecessors past life Jiang Tài Píng martial elders and uncles found out the truth of Jiang Tài Píng later after everything already happened. After they had conducted a full investigation and found out the truth. Hundreds of thousands of Martial Suicide Warriors flooded the capital city of Josper.
The Imperial Palace of Josper was infiltrated, and every Imperial family member, servant, and guard of the Imperial Family was murdered. The Imperial Palace was completely burned to the ground. Prime Minister Peng was caught and slowly skinned alive right in the Imperial Square of Josper's capital city. He was giving a slow torturous death of 'death by dismemberment.' He was somehow kept alive to the end as they cut off pieces of him slowly.
Overnight Josper was thrown into complete turmoil. That was what also played a role in helping the Tolling Lands to win the war. The armies of Josper retreated back to Josper to calm the storm in their own waters. However, for a long time, chaos reigned in Josper.
The strength and activity of the warriors of the martial world shocked and shook the whole foundation of the Northern Lands in Liu Tián Qǔ's predecessor's past life. In the Northern Lands, the warriors of the martial world were not precisely looked down on, because there were known crouching tigers and hidden dragons of the martial world.
However, there was a sort of wall between the warriors of the martial world and the nobles, generals, ministers, officials, warriors, and commanders of many of the countries of the Northern Lands. They didn't bother with warriors of the martial world.
Whether it was intentional of not, Liu Tián Qǔ didn't know. However, there seemed to be a strange veil blurring the strength of the martial world. Oddly in the Northern Lands, no one hired house guards or built armies using warriors of the martial world. Yet, people were quick to use them as assassins. It didn't make any sense to Liu Tián Qǔ at all.
Jiang Tài Píng and Jiang Mín Yuè finally found their voice and quickly began to calm the young lord down.
Jiang Tài Píng quickly began to explain that he had heard of a miracle doctor who, at that time, was in the Imperial City. The problem was this miracle doctor never stay in one place long. Jiang Tài Píng immediately ran off fast with his wife to the Imperial City to find the Doctor.
Jiang Tài Píng looked at his new younger brother, who had calmed down and silently listened as he explained what happened. "I am the one at fault here. I ran off too fast to the Imperial City with my wife. At the time, my wife was so sick, I thought for sure I was going to lose her. I had panicked and was guided by fear. All I could think of was reaching the Imperial City in time enough to find the doctor. I could think of nothing else. I forgot to inform my martial uncles and elders. They didn't know where I was until I sent a letter from the Imperial City asking for funds to help keep my wife alive," Jiang Tài Píng face tinge pink in embarrassment.
"My martial Elder already sent me a blistering letter for running off without telling anyone where I was going and for even failing to take enough of funds with me." Jiang Tài Píng's face grew redder.
Jiang Tài Píng looked away from Liu Tián Qǔ and wouldn't quite meet her eyes as he said in a low voice of complete embarrassment, "All I could think about was reaching the Imperial City in time to find the doctor. I even forgot to bring a sufficient amount of funds with me and caused my wife to suffer unnecessary hardship." By this time, Jiang Tài Píng's face had turned so red it looked like it was dripping blood.
The big man said in an almost pleading voice, "If you write a letter to my martial uncles and elders, then they will really go hard on me. My martial Elder had already activated a large force of martial warriors to search for me before my letter had reached him. So he is not very happy with me right now."
'Ah, Liu Tián Qǔ thought to herself, so that is what happened. Well, it's just as well. It would be a bit too much if I were to write a letter scolding them for something that happened in another life. Things are okay now, so I will just leave things as they are.' Liu Tián Qǔ thought to herself.
"Humph," Liu Tián Qǔ said, pretending to be still angry. "How many warriors will he be sending?"
Jiang Tài Píng glanced over at Liu Tián Qǔ before quickly looking away. The big man answered, "Uh... I didn't ask, but my martial uncles and elders don't do anything by halves."
Liu Tián Qǔ paused briefly to collect her thoughts. "I see nothing wrong with bringing in the warriors that your martial family will send to watch over you. However, your approach is wrong."
Jiang Tài Píng frown slightly, "What younger brother means is..."
"Jiang Tài Píng, let me ask you a question? In the Tolling Lands, do nobles send their children to the manors of other nobles to be mentored?" Liu Tián Qǔ knew that in ancient times on earth, children were often sent to the manors of other nobles to be mentored. However, she was learning that many things were done differently in the Northern Lands.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
"Yes, most definitely. This is heavily practiced amongst the high ranking nobles," Jiang Tài Píng answered.
"Good, now when the children of these nobles leave their homes to be mentored in the manor of someone else. Are they allowed to bring servants and guards along with them?" Liu Tián Qǔ watched as both Jiang Tài Píng and Jiang Mín Yuè eyes widen in understanding.
A smile broke out on Jiang Tài Píng's face, "I understand," the Commander said. His wife also nodded her understanding.
Liu Tián Qǔ return Jiang Tài Píng's smile and Jiang Mín Yuè's nod, "It's good that you do."
"If more than five hundred warriors are sent. Then we will have to divide them up between you, your wife, and son. As of now, not only are you, my commander, I will also begin to mentor you in the arts of war and the martial arts that my master trained me in. After you get settled in, and your workload lightens up, then we will begin our training." Liu Tián Qǔ decided to make a copy of some of the books on the arts of war she studied in her past life. She decided to past that knowledge on to Jiang Tài Píng since that was his family's craft anyway. She also decided to train him in some of the disciplines of martial arts from her past life.
Liu Tián Qǔ was not blessed with photographic memory or perfect memory. However, in her previous life. Liu Tián Qǔ had went through a phase where she became obsessed with things of bygone eras both of her country and of other countries. She spent a ton of time and energy seeking the knowledge and wisdom of wise men and women of the past. Liu Tián Qǔ poured over tons upon ton of books that contained that knowledge.
Jiang Tài Píng was utterly confounded and bemused. He honestly didn't know what to think or say as he looked at the Young Lord, who was not only his master but also now a brother. Now he will also be a teacher?!
Liu Tián Qǔ grinned at the look on the commander's face and said, "We've already established our relationship, big brother. Let's leave it as is. Later on, I will be giving you some pointers as a mentor. This is only to cover ourselves. I figured since my teacher gift me with knowledge, I might as well share it with you." Liu Tián Qǔ said, mixing truth with lies.
"As you know, only five hundred warriors are allowed. So if someone decides to start trouble with us for having more than five hundred warriors in our residence. We will be able to say that the extra warriors are the guards that were sent to protect you while you are being mentored in my Residence." The Commander and his wife watched the cunning Young Lord with wide eyes as the Young Lord began to spin his web.
"We will say that out of gratitude. You decided to assist me with my house guards and army. If more than five hundred warriors are sent, then the warriors that exceed five hundred will wear the Han family colors. We will say that your wife is also being mentored here, as well. I will think of something to mentor her in."
When Liu Tián Qǔ saw the odd look on the faces of the couple who watched her carefully, she just smiled and said, "I am sure we are not the only ones to find a loophole in the five hundred warrior decree."
Finally, the Commander slowly nodded and said, "Then we will do that for now, younger brother."
"We may be getting ahead of ourselves. Your martial uncles and elders may not send that many warriors. However, it's better if we are prepared to handle such a situation." Liu Tián Qǔ advised the couple. Liu Tián Qǔ, Jiang Mín Yuè, and Jiang Tài Píng then discussed the situation a bit longer.
Liu Tián Qǔ noticed that Jiang Mín Yuè kept glancing towards the door. Liu Tián Qǔ figured Jiang Mín Yuè probably want to go check on her babies. When there was a brief pause in the conversation, Liu Tián Qǔ told the commander, "Send a set of Liu house guard armor to my courtyard. Send the size closest to my build that you have. I've decided to attend the memorial disguised as a Liu Residence house guard." Liu Tián Qǔ informed her Commander. "When it's time to leave, send someone to let me know. I will mingle in with the house guards that have been chosen to go."
Commander Jiang looked at the Young Lord with a knowing look in his eye and said, "I will make sure to send it over as soon as possible. I will also send a guard to inform you when it is time to go."
Soon after, Liu Tián Qǔ took her leave. The couple was escorting her out when Liu Tián Qǔ suddenly stopped in her tracks and turned to her Commander and said, "Oh right, I forgot. Before I came, there was a big delivery from the clothes makers. However, the butler doesn't know which clothes belong to whom. Those were the clothes that you must have ordered for everyone right before you left to bring your martial brothers to the Imperial City, right?"
"Yes, I too forgot all about it," The Commander said with a light laugh. "I will take care of it now. I ordered clothes for everyone to wear later on for the memorial as well as several sets of daily clothes and formal clothes." The Commander said.
"Okay, I will leave you to it then." Liu Tián Qǔ said. They all parted ways. The commander went to take care of delivering the clothing to his martial brothers and godson. Jiang Mín Yuè returned to take care of her babies, Liu Tián Qǔ returned to her courtyard to rest and relax for the memorial which was to be held shortly.
However, instead of relaxing, upon returning to her courtyard. Liu Tián Qǔ immediately began sketching out a series of plans and ideas she had in mind.
As the sky darkened, Sōng Hé Píng began lighting the candles in the ten branch floor candelabra candleholders throughout the sitting/study area where Liu Tián Qǔ sat at a large desk drawing.
When Liu Tián Qǔ finally notice that the sky was getting dark. Liu Tián Qǔ called Sōng Hé Píng to assist her in freshening up and dawning the ceremonial armor that Commander Jiang sent over for her.
Of course, Liu Tián Qǔ never wore real armor before. The closest she ever came to armor was dressing up in cosplay armor for the American holiday Halloween. Likewise, Sōng Hé Píng never helped anyone dawn armor either. Before coming to Liu Residence, she was a poor commoner who never even got close to nobles or warriors.
Somehow they manage to muddle through it, though. Liu Tián Qǔ never realized how tedious getting armored in real armor could be until she had to do it. They both decided to start from the bottom and work their way to the top.
Liu Tián Qǔ first freshened up and changed into clean inner robes. She then wore a simple short robe over her inner robes. Then with Sōng Hé Píng help Liu Tián Qǔ starting with the boots first. Next, Sōng Hé Píng helped her with the greaves. Then the armored skirt and body armor. After securing the body armor, they then attacked the gauntlets, vambrace, and the armor belt. Liu Tián Qǔ was a bit excited to dress up in armor. However, she also felt kind of exhausted from all the work.
In her past life when she dressed up as an ancient warrior in Tang cosplay armor for Halloween in America. Liu Tián Qǔ didn't remember working this hard. Nor was the armor this heavy. As Sōng Hé Píng assisted her in getting armored Liu Tián Qǔ started to realize the difference between cosplay armor and real armor. It was as different as the east was from the west. In her condition now, Liu Tián Qǔ knew that there was no way she could fight wearing the heavy armor. She needed more strength.
Liu Tián Qǔ couldn't wait to take the Black Blossoms Dual Potion. According to what the peddler told her. After taking the Black Blossom potion, she would have more energy and more strength after a brief illness. However, this was based on the condition of the Asledan young girls that were chosen to take the potion.
"These girls must have train and strengthen their bodies from a very young age. Yet they were still required to take additional body strengthen potions and further training and conditioning before being allowed to take the potion. Meanwhile, my predecessor has been eating vegetables all her life, and this body is very weak. Liu Tián Qǔ inwardly gloomily thought to herself.
It's been less a month since Liu Tián Qǔ started taking the strengthening potion and exercising. Although her body had drastically improved, Liu Tián Qǔ's body was still too weak.
Aiya looks like I am going to have to cut some corners. I am going to have to readjust my food and my food intake and training regimen. I will also have to prepare to be very sick for a more extended period of time. My body is weak already, and the Black Blossom potion is only going to weaken my body much more. There is only so much the strengthen potions could do. I had better make sure all the important things were taken care of before I deliberately take something that will make me extremely ill for a while.
Sōng Hé Píng finished helping Liu Tián Qǔ with the pauldrons, chest straps, underarm protectors and several pieces Liu Tián Qǔ had yet to learn the name of. As Sōng Hé Píng was helping Liu Tián Qǔ to tie on the cloak that went over her armor and secure a short sword on her waist, there was a knock.
"Enter," Liu Tián Qǔ commanded as Sōng Hé Píng begin straightening her cloak.
Commander Jiang entered the lounge to see his new younger brother armored and ready to go. Commander Jiang bowed and said, "Younger brother, it's time. Everyone is ready."
"How many warriors will be escorting everyone to the memorial?" Liu Tián Qǔ asked her commander as she walked towards the commander who stood at the exit.
"Two hundred house guards will be escorting us. Each person is assigned forty guards. You can blend in with the forty guards that are assigned to me." The Commander said before saying, "By the way, the Emperor sent the carriage back. He sent a message saying that it will be easier for Wēi Yǒng Měng to travel in that carriage. However, after the memorial, it mush be sent back to the Imperial Palace." Commander Jiang informed Liu Tián Qǔ.
"Humph," Liu Tián Qǔ grunted as she followed her commander out. She didn't bother comment on the shameless Emperor who bullied her and stole her carriage.
