Chapter 70: I'm looking for the crouching tigers and the hidden dragons

After taking a sip of tea Jiang Tài Píng hesitantly asked, "Are you sure you want to hire warriors from the martial world?"

Liu Tián Qǔ gave Jiang Tài Píng a steady look before answering, "If we hire warriors from the martial arts world, can you train them? Are you capable of controlling them?"

Jiang Tài Píng nodded before saying, "Warriors of the martial arts world live by a different code than the trained warriors of the various armies. However, they are hungrier. Many of the warriors of the martial arts world are fiercer than the warrior of most of the armies. They have an edge that many of the warriors of the various armies have lost. However, since people who are building armies won't hire them, this quality in the warriors of the martial arts world is mostly hidden to people not of the martial arts world."

"That is what I am looking for in the warriors we hire. I want those warriors who are hungrier, warriors who have the extra edge and stamina to go that extra distance. I'm looking for the crouching tigers and the hidden dragons, and I know tons of them can be found in the martial world. The reason why the average warrior in the various armies have lost the edge is that they got comfortable and complacent." Liu Tián Qǔ said with a knowing look in her eyes.

Jiang Tài Píng nodding in agreement, "This is true, and I recently had this discussion with an old friend of mine. Things have gotten too easy for the warriors of the Tolling Lands. So instead of giving the 100% that they are capable of giving, they are only giving 65%. The armies that have noticeably maintained that edge is the various armies of the Imperial Family."

"I want our warriors and guards to be paid a very high wage. You figure everything out and let me know what you need. I also want you to keep an eye out for a good piece of land outside of the Imperial City to build our garrison. I want a garrison capable of comfortably holding forty thousand warriors." Liu Tián Qǔ said and then burst into laughter as Jiang Tài Píng eyes bulged out of his head.

"Forty thousand!" Jiang Tài Píng finally managed to croak out in shock. "You want to build an army of forty thousand? I don't think the emperor will allow you to build an army that big!"

Laughing Liu Tián Qǔ said, "No, I want to build an army of twenty thousand. However, I have my reason for building a garrison that big. You're absolutely right when you said the emperor won't allow me to build an army that big. By now, the Emperor should be a bit wary of me."

Finally gathering his wits about him, Jiang Tài Píng asked in slight confusion, "Why would the emperor be wary of you? Have you met him before?"

Liu Tián Qǔ stumbled over her words as she said sheepishly, "No, I never met him, I ... um...I kind ... um... kind of sent him a message asking him not to summon me."

Jiang Tài Píng who had lifted his cup to take a sip of tea, almost dropped his cup when he heard Liu Tián Qǔ words. So shocked was he at the daring of his new Young Master.

While Jiang Tài Píng gaped in shock at her Liu Tián Qǔ hurridly began to explain her actions. "You see, I was heavily involved in the situation with Veiled mountain, right? I think this set off a bunch of unforeseen events. We both know that there has been a big purge of corrupted officials in the Imperial City. Soon the remaining officials are going to look for deeper answers as to what set everything in motion. I already know they will come looking for me, why should I give them a road map? I am glad that I took care to purchase everything under Wang Fèn Yǒng's name." Poor Jiang Tài Píng's eyes bulged out so big they looked like they were about to fall out of his eye sockets.

"He... that is... I didn't realize you were that close to that killing... um with Wang Fèn Yǒng." Jiang Tài Píng stuttered out in shock.

"Um," Liu Tián Qǔ hummed as she nodded, "We are friends." Then said, "I know my involvement can't remain hidden forever. However, I am trying to buy as much time as possible for various reasons. However, if I go tromping before the Emperor, that will defeat the whole purpose. Also, although I am friends with the Wang Royal Manor Heir. I wish to remain as far from the political field as I could get. I don't wish to involve myself in those things or get dragged into it. So the best course of action for me is to stay as far away as possible." Liu Tián Qǔ watched as an indescribable look surfaced on Jiang Tài Píng face as she spoke, so she quickly changed the subject.

"Anyway, back to the hiring of house guards, they must be paid high wages. As for your wages double your pay of what a high paid Commander makes." Liu Tián Qǔ said with a slight smile.

"Thank you, Young Master Liu," Commander Jiang, said with sincerity.

"Another thing I will need you to do is to start a ledger for the House Guards and a separate ledger for the army we will build later. I will look it over once a month. That way, we will get an idea of the House Guards' monthly expenditure. Also, so that you know we will have plenty of money coming in so money won't be an issue." Liu Tián Qǔ said.

"Okay, no problem," Jiang Tài Píng said.

"I will be giving you a large sum of gold once a month to take care of all the wages of the warriors and military expenditures. Now I have a question I would like to ask you," Liu Tián Qǔ said.

"I will be hiring a lot of support staff to work in the residence garrison area. Do you want them to be under you and answer only to you, or do you want Housekeeper Gao and Butler Zhou to take care of managing the garrison support staff?" Liu Tián Qǔ ask.

"Let the Housekeeper and Butler handle that. I will have enough to deal with in handling the warriors. I wouldn't have time for it, especially when I start building the army." Jiang Tài Píng said immediately. He didn't even bother to take a moment to think about it and answered right away.

"Okay," Liu Tián Qǔ said, "I will let the Housekeeper and Butler know your decision." Before saying, "As soon as you're able to find that piece of land outside of the Imperial City, we will immediately begin hiring workers to get started on the garrison." Liu Tián Qǔ paused after saying that. She realized she forgot to mention one of the most important things.
