Sidestory 1.1 - Ice fox

Author’s corner: HELLO HELLO! Fox-girl backstory!

ANYWAY, I would be struck with this feeling of guilt if I didn’t post at least something today, but I did not have neither the time nor the energy to write a full chapter, so I decided to at least make a short chapter about our favorite fox! I may only do this kind of chapter for a couple of days, but normal chapters should be back Thursday or Friday.

ALSO, I should post the race page tomorrow and put some rules to what kind of races I will accept as recommendations sometime tomorrow.

ALSO(2) It’s really incredible how coincidences happen… there was one recommendation for extra-character that was surprisingly similar to a future character that is going to appear, from weapon to class and somewhat armor. There are some differences, but it still is surprising! But worry not, that your character still counts for the extra! More details on how to post your character on the next chapter.

ALSO (3), CYGNAS CHURCH NOW HAS 111 FOLLOWERS! HOORAY! (P.H. doesn't count since he is useless...)

----

Kuzuha Yukihime is a girl with many secrets. Born in a wealthy family with a large mansion in the borders of the capital, Tokyo, she went to an all-girls escalator school for all her life. That’s is not to say that she had no experience talking to boys, but most of the time were in social parties that her father would take her from time to time, but even then, the amount of people who would actually go talk to her was surprisingly small.

Surprisingly for her, at least. Being born with a natural beauty while being taller than the other girls her age, coupled with years of training in her grandfather’s dojo that gave her an ever serious personality, gave her a natural dignified aura that made many people hesitate before trying to approach her, even others who were of similar status. Unknowingly, she had received the nickname of untouchable ice rose.

Being who she was, she spent most of her free times studying or practicing martial arts, so she never had much contact with entertainment methods, nor with the outside at all. But it did make her a genius at what she did.

However, things began to change recently. A transfer student had enrolled in her class some months ago, and contrary to the other who usually were too afraid to approach her, this new classmate would gladly spend her time with Yukihime.

Her name was Kazehama Mary. A half-British girl who was the opposite of Yukihime, being short and having a platinum blonde hair, she had a cheerful personality, and from time to time would end up dragging her around.

For Yukihime, this was her true first friend she had ever made, and it was her who had convinced Yukihime to play this new game that was about to appear in the market, called Insania Online.

Of course, Yukihime was a bit anxious at first, since she had never had any contact with this kind of thing, but in the end she lost to her nagging and bought the strange glasses-like machine, and with the help of Mary, she managed to install it on her house. After that, she asked her father and grandfather to give her some free time the day the game would launch.

Both of them were actually very glad with her request, since after all, the seemingly selfless princess of the household had, for the first time in her entire life had asked something selfish. So they gladly gave her the entire weekend free.

As the game would go online deep into the night, they combined to log in around six and a half in the morning of the following day, and both would make their characters with the surname of Tatenaka, so they could look like sisters in game. When Yukihime asked the reason for the surname, Mary answered that It came from a anime she really liked, where there was a girl who kind of looked like her, albeit with opposite personalities.

However, the day they had marked, right before the combined time, Mary called her house.

“I’m sorry, Yuu-chan. Mother had to take a flight back to England and I will go with her to the airport to say my goodbyes to her… I can’t come back until seven!” [this text was translated from Japanese for your convenience. Thanks Cygnas for that.]

Yukihime wasn’t very bothered by that, so she told Mary to not worry too much.

But she was still curious about this game that Mary had been talking for such a long time, and since she had no previous experience, the temptation grew even more. So she ended up logging on the game, so she could see how it was.

After waiting in a dark room for a minute, it suddenly turned white, and a beautiful silver haired girl appeared before her, leaving even her surprised for a moment.

The girl also looked at her, and for a brief moment looked confused, but Yukihime dismissed it as only her imagination, as soon a gentle smile appeared on her face.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

“Welcome to Insania online, where the world is yours to explore! My name is Cygnas, the acting main goddess of this world! Creator of everything that the light touches…”

After that, she gave a quick introduction of herself then the game, before taking her to the character creation area.

Even for Yukihime, who had no previous experience on games, the creation, albeit vast, was very easy to understand, and whichever doubt she had, all she had to do was ask the goddess and she would answer her in a simple way.

In the end, she created her character, the Kitsune called Tatenaka Yuki, nicknamed Yuu, as Mary always called her. Mary had previously told her that naming the character just like your name in real life, isn’t a good idea, but she wouldn’t get used to people calling her by a name too different, so she chose to shorten her name slightly.

She also ended up making her character a mage after some thinking, and with the help of the goddess, she ended up choosing an ice staff and the simple cloth armor that looked a simple white dress.

After that, she had to choose the starting village. Looking at one that seemed to be in a good spot, at least for the unexperienced her, she ended up choosing the Aria village. The goddess kindly reminded her to warn her friends who wanted to play with her about the name of the village.

After that, she was transported to a village, and she was stunned on how real everything looked, from the stars in the sky to the grass on her feet. After that she took her time to look around the village and its surrounding, looking at everything around her in pure wonder.

While in the village, she ended up hearing some people talking about some Green eyes, the brutal. Noticing it wasn’t the first time she heard that name, she asked a passerby, an ugly but strong looking orc in full plate armor wielding a large hammer.

His eyes widened in shock when she made her question.

“Green eyes, the brutal? Are you new here, girly?” Asked the orc, Yuu simply nodded. “Then hear me. Green eyes is a monster of a player! Probably the strongest around right now! Some even say that he already has a hidden class! They say that he can kill any enemy with one attack! But it also seems that he is completely mad, killing everything that appears in front of him! The best thing to do is never get close to him, you hear me? The last time they saw him, he was in the Wild dog’s area, so stay away from there!”

But the warning the Orc kindly gave her didn’t work the way he intended. Yuu had practiced martial arts for years now, and having the chance to see the one who was considered the strongest person in this place only served to make her curious, so she quickly went to the said area.

What she found there wasn’t exactly what she was expecting.

She met with a golem after he almost crashed into her while rolling, she easily managed to dodge him, but was surprised when he quickly stood up and put on a stance with both his swords drawn.

She was shocked for a moment, not knowing what was happening, but in the end she had to ask.

“What could you be doing?”

The green eyed golem blinked in surprise, but sheathed his swords and lowered his head for a moment, before answering with an extremely serious expression which shocked her.

“Isn’t it obvious? I was doing music!”

His answer both confused and surprised the kitsune.

“What could you mean by that?”

The golem suddenly looked surprised, as if she had just asked a ridiculous question like what color is the sky.

“You never heard of it?” She could only shake her head in confusion. “Then, let me enlighten you!” He proudly pointed at himself. “I was rolling stones!”

Yuu, being the studious girl she was, had a very good grade in English, but even then it took her some time for her to understand his words. Even more for her to link it to the band that she would sometimes get her grandfather listening.

When she finally understood the horrible pun, she could only look away and try to not laugh at the poor golem who was smiling full of pride.

And for some reason she got sad over some cookies…
