------
Hzxxaks looked through the spiked window from his room at the top floor of his fortress, watching as his brethren and allies worked down there, forging their weapons and armors on the very fire of the ground around them. The screams from the imps as they burned themselves on their own forges was something like music to the demon’s ear.
His attention was distracted from the forges as the huge front gates shook, the hinges screaming as they held all the impact from the sudden attack. But instead of worrying, the huge demon simply smiled instead.
The gate busted open as a huge hydra busted through the gates, seven of its head roaring in anger and the last two spitting balls of fire on the workers below, burning the level twenty demons, imps and succubus to death. Some strange equipment could be seen on its back, with slots and hooks that could be used to hook it to some equipment.
Basically, it was one the beasts from his stable. But it seemed that this one was one of the beasts that still didn’t have passed through the taming.
His smile grew wicked as he patiently walked towards the opposite wall and grabbed the vicious sword that once took him to the fields of that disgusting place. The blade still tainted with a rusted coloration from the blood that once covered it, or the lack of it. He took his free hand to the remaining of the left horn he lost in a battle against the one that called himself Orfeon, and a grimace appeared on his face as he reminded himself of that fiasco.
But, that didn’t matter for now. He turned back to the window that overlooked the panicked patio and smashed it with the gigantic sword, not bothering with the fact that he wall also came down with it.
He looked at the thirty meters fall towards the ground and simply leaped from the edge, raising his sword high in the air. The moment he reached the hydra, he brought down his blade, slicing away five of the heads with one single swing, making the two remaining heads scream in agony as only a fragment of its health remained.
Approaching the ten meters high beast with calm, he grabbed it by one of its decapitated necks and threw it back through the gate, where it destroyed the arc and rolled all the way to the stables, where the beast-keepers quickly started tying it up before it recovered. Hzxxaks then, turned to one of the nearby imps, still with his legs trembling and grabbed him by the head.
“Do you see that arc? And that wall up there?” He said while pointing the imp towards both broken buildings.
“YESSSS BOSSS!” The imp said in his annoyingly shriek of a voice.
“Good. Repair them before tomorrow and you may live.” He said while throwing the imp towards the broken gate. He had the feeling that maybe he threw a bit too hard and may have killed the annoying little bastard, but he didn’t really care. These imps spread like a plague anyway.
He turned his vision back to the sword in his hand once again and saw as it regained its usual vivid red coloration as it drank the Hydra’s blood, before turning back into a large rusty old sword. He sighed loudly. Ever since that day it drank the blood from Orfeon, his blade never again was satisfied with the blood from feeble animals like that. And it was only a single slice! What would a true slash do with it?
He sighed annoyed. That bloody self-called god was the only thing that stopped his conquest of that world they call Insania.
Well, there was also the fact that part of his allies decided to side with the bloody inhabitants of that world. And then there were those bloody angels. How the hell did they decided to invade that place at the same time as himself?
Even then, these two facts were something that he could have worked around, nothing impossible to beat. That Orfeon, on the other side…
Bah, no matter. A few more hundred years and his forces will once again have enough resources to once again invade again, and until then he would have found a way to deal with that bastard of a god.
He turned his back to the broken gate, where the imps and Onis started to gather around to start the repairs, but the roar of another beast made him grimace slightly as he turned around to discipline whatever it was that decided to attack HIS fortress. Afterwards, he would have a talk with the beast-master. They had to have a LOOONG talk.
He grimaced as he saw the monumental plague-beast running towards him. He remembered that one. An annoying one that wouldn’t submit no matter how many times he beat it to near death. Still, an amusing entertainment, so he kept him around.
He sighed while raising his sword up high and prepared to strike at the abomination of a beast.
But before it could even reach the gate, Hzxxaks saw as a red blur shoulder-rammed the beast, making it grimace for a moment before being carried away until it fell on the huge canyon that flanked the western side of his fortress. An amused look came to his face as he noticed that whatever it was that pushed the beast also fell down with it.
He approached the fall and watched as the beasts legs twitched for a moment. Still alive, so nothing lost. But whatever it was that pushed it couldn’t be seen.
“That fool! Couldn’t he have done it in a more elegant way?” He heard someone say from his side, and turning his head surprised he saw an incubus putting his hand over his face and shaking it from one side to the other.
Hzxxaks grimace. He never really liked the Incubus as a whole. Always too worried with looking good and appearances, that always annoyed him greatly. But he couldn’t deny that as annoying as they were, they were skilled with magic, so he couldn’t really complain.
Well, the succubus were a whole another story, but that didn’t need any comment.
But the Incubus at his side took the whole appearance thingy to a whole new level. His suit was impeccable, with not even a small wrinkle on it. His long hair was so perfectly combed that even the way they flowed when the wind hit them kept them symmetrical.
He somehow knew that this one was even worse than the ones he was used seeing around, and that made him grimace even more than the usual.
The Incubus finally seemed to notice him and became wide eyed in surprise, before taking a step back and bowing slightly.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
“Forgive-me, sir. I hadn’t seen you there.” He said in an overly polite voice that annoyed the demon. He wondered if he were to gut him here and now, his innards would spill evenly through the ground. “But I must say that I bear good news.” He said with a smile while meeting eye-to-eye with the general.
This made the general widen his eyes briefly in surprise. Not many could look at him directly without cowering, so this made him reconsider slaughtering this man immediately.
“Do tell me. It’s been a good time since I received good news.” The General said while lowering his sword.
The Incubus nodded before snapping his fingers, making a annoyingly beautiful box appear in his hand.
Hzxxaks widened his eyes once again. Such a high leveled spell with only a snap of a finger? This man is even stronger than what he had originally thought. He decided that he would look into his registers and see if he could find something about this mage in particular.
The Incubus briefly checked inside the box before closing it and giving it to the demon, who had his eyebrows raised in confusion. Taking the box roughly and opening it, he saw a crystal. A simple black crystal a bit bigger than the human hand he kept as a souvenir.
Yet, every cell in his body and all the knowledge and experience he received in the hundred years he had been in control of his army told him. This crystal, isn’t just any crystal. The sheer amount of energy that was contained within it was something that was only told on the legends. With so much energy, maybe he could even…
“We have found this crystals in our ventures, so we thought that you would be interested in taking a look.” The incubus said politely while bowing his head slightly.
“You have done a great job, Incubus. With this, my plans will be even more…” The general started while closing back the box, but someone else interrupted him.
“SIR! I also have an report!” The general blinked amused, as a huge red hand grabbed the border of the canyon besides him and lifted the rest of the body up. And by the deepest chasm of hell, what a huge body it was!
The one that interrupted him was a huge Oni, wearing only simple chain-mail pants and leaving his three meters tall body completely uncovered. The bulging muscles covered in even more scars than Hzxxaks himself, something that the general himself always thought impossible to find.
“Sir! Some of my scouts found out that the angels may have something similar in their possession! And they appear to be using it to power their portals!” The oni said while making a sloppy salute.
The general grimaced at that. The angels? Of all of the possible foes, it had to be the damned angels? Curse them!
“Where are they targeting?” He asked in the small hope that maybe the information wasn’t what he was expecting, but…
“Insania, lord-sir!” The Oni said still in his salute.
“Damn them!” He cursed out loudly. “You two, state your names!” He said to the two.
“My name is Ollan Fel-blood, sir.” The Incubus said.
“Bul-kathos, Sir!” The oni said with a smirk in his face.
“I see…” The demon nodded. “You two, come later to my castle. You deserve some fine rewards for bringing me this.” He said. He could be cruel to his peers, but knowing when to reward them was a great way to keep their loyalty.
“Your gratitude is overwhelming.”
“Thank you, Sir!”
The demon nodded while smiling before turning back to his fortress and storming back into it.
“Bulfrar! Come here you stupid imp!” He shouted from the patio, making all the workers stop from a moment and stare at him.
For a moment, the patio stood still, but after a gnarl from the demon, they all went back to working. The screams of pain becoming even more constant now that they were nervous that the general himself was nearby.
After some seconds, a commotion started as a small imp and a large Oni, both wearing white robes, came running into the patio and presented himself to the general.
“HERE WE ARE, SIR!” Annoying voice.
The general shoved the box into the imp’s hand.
“Make us a portal to Insania with that.” He said. Not asking, demanding. The imp blinked while opening the box and looking inside. His eyes widened in surprise as he turned to the general.
“SIR! WITH THIS WE CAN COMPLETE THE PORTAL IN A FEW MONTHS!” he said happily.
“Good, because in a few moths we are going back to Insania.” The general said with a smirk, but this made the imp expression pale.
“BUT SIR! WHAT ABOUT THE PREPARATIONS? IT WOULD TAKE US ONE OR TWO MORE DECADES BEFORE EVERYTHING IS REA…”
“Well, rush the preparations, you buffoon.” The general shouted at the imp, almost making him fall back. “The angels are already working on this, and I will NOT let those filthy feathered wimps take that place before me!” He said with a gnarl.
And with that he stormed back into his own castle, not bothering to see as all the workers became even more frantic in their works.
But before he closed the door, he shouted back.
“And take that overgrown tumor from the canyon! I don’t want him running rampant on MY territory.”
….
“He really fell for it, little chaos!” The oni said to the Incubus walking beside him, both of which smiled proudly.
“I told you it would all work finely, sir.” Ollan answered the Oni. “Now, we just wait a few weeks and do the same to the angels, then everything should work out on its own.” He said after thinking for some seconds. “The remaining will be left to the Chosen, I guess…”
“I guess everything will work out.” The Oni said while shrugging. “But did you really need to polish these crystals until they were so… round?” He asked a bit confused, and the Incubus simply grimaced.
“They were too uneven to simply pass them on. Leaving it like that would be an offense against my doctrine.” He said with a grimace, which made the oni laugh loudly.
As they walked, the passed through the stables, where many foul beasts were caged and chained. Looking at them, the Incubus smiled a bit and said.
“So, sir… What do you think of those?” He said with a smirk.
“Well… They are pretty strong, but not even an army of them would stand up to my little cuddles.” The Oni said while looking at the building together with the Incubus.
“Well… I was actually thinking about that friend of ours, you know?” Ollan said with a smile, which made Bul-kathos laugh loudly.
“Oh! He would really get pumped up! Even more with that one in the middle!” He laughed even louder. “I really hope Hzxxaks take it with him. He would get so happy!” Even Ollan chuckled a bit this time. “Now let’s get back. My poker has been a bit rusty recently, and I have to beat the relative from YOUR little pet.” He said with a fierce smile.
And no matter how long the time passed, Ollan Fel-blood and Bul-kathos never came back to reclaim their rewards.
