INTERLUDE: THE HOLY QUEST
I was heading to the guild when I got the notification. My party was going to be upset, but they’d understand, and it really didn’t matter if they didn’t. This was bigger than them, and it was bigger than me. It was bigger than any mortal on this plane. It was a holy quest.

The Goddess of Chaos had called upon me, and it was time for me to deliver. Elly had given me my job, and it had gotten me through more situations than I could count. I could never reject her quest, if I refused I did not deserve to live, debts must be repaid. I got to the guild and left a letter with a receptionist. My party would get it when they dropped by later for our meeting; I had something more important to do.
I went to the church, as they should have more information for me than what was given in the quest. The church was on the other side of town, but it wasn’t a very long walk. It only took thirty minutes to reach, and it was clear something was happening. The priests were rushing about, bringing mana gems of various sizes from storage into the inner sanctum. As I walked up to the entrance, a nun noticed my presence, and I saw her run inside, clearly looking for someone.
I went into church, and saw what had happened. Elly’s statue had changed. Before, Elly’s statue was of a beautiful young woman, with blue crystals for eyes and a lovely toga that trailed down to the floor behind her. It was made of black quartz, carved by some of the best crafters in the kingdom. But it had changed, Elly’s statue had turned white, and her eyes were glowing red. She was angry, and that was never a good sign, for the priests, the kingdom, the world, and especially the one that caused it. There was going to be a disaster, and now was the time to prepare.
