Alright, first thing first. I need out of this web. I flapped my wings a little, freeing myself from the web and leaving a small hole behind in the process. Huh, I should work on that. I don’t want to make the web unstable… Whatever, the spiders can figure it out. Webs are their domain, not mine. Now then, how to protect all of these eggs… Wait, do I need to? They are surrounded by what I assume is kilometers of webs, I mean, I don’t think anything is getting in here anytime soon. And if there was really a problem I don’t think they would have all killed themselves so quickly. They probably would have left a few behind to defend their eggs. Yeah, I’ll trust my cultists knew what they were doing… Yeah no.
They didn’t even have the brain power to realize they could hunt. I totally need to protect these stupid eggs. But… I can’t even fly around in here! There’s absolutely no way I could do anything to help. GAH! There are no good solutions to my problems! Ever! You know what, I’ll just trust them to Mosquito God. I really can’t think of anything else. Alright, so, I guess I should try and lead a prayer… Wait, I’m having a bunch of eggs pray, will that even do anything? Eh, whatever. At least it will work for me.
So! Eggs, lone spider and possibly others that I haven’t seen yet. Let’s all close our eyes and pray for salvation. Oh great and powerful Mosquito God, please protect all of us here, any somehow living cultist and all of these defenseless eggs. Thanks for listening, Mosquito God, amen.
After the prayer, something changed. Suddenly, the wind started picking up and storms clouds rolled in from out of nowhere. All around me the web was shaking from the wind, and possibly an earthquake, it’s a lot harder to tell from the air. There was a crack of lighting and a tree was charred black in an instant. No fire appeared from the strike, all that could be seen was a charred tree. Then, a red mist emanated from the tree. Slowly turning everything it touched to the color of blood. It spread out, slowly at first, but picking up speed the longer it was alive. In an instant, it surrounded me, the eggs, and everything I could see.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
Then, as quickly as it began, everything stopped. The storms rolled away, the wind died back down, and all of the shaking ended. I flew there, dazed. What the hell did the Mosquito God just do? Looking around, all the webs changed from their looking like normal webs. They were a nice white, like webs, before. But now, they were blood red with hints of black, and they were flowing. The individual lines themselves seemed to be just as stationary as before, but something was different, and not just the color. I looked closer, trying to figure out what it was…
Uh oh, wait a second. I flew up to one of the strands, and it wasn’t sticky anymore. I didn’t get stuck. But that wasn’t the worst part, I landed on the web, and it rippled. Like a liquid. My presence sent a small ripple throughout the whole of the web, pinpointing my location for all who could see. Because the strands were turned to blood.
The Mosquito God turned the web into blood!
Mosquito God 1% to birth.
What the hell!?!?! Seriously!?!?! HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE!?!?! Besides the plain fact that he just figured out a way to transmute what I think is basically silk into blood, how the hell does it stay up!?!?! BLOOD DOESN’T FLOAT! Actually though, it doesn’t form shields around you either. Hmmmmm. Fuck! Magic makes no sense. A bloody web. I don’t think I can get behind that. At all. I’m just gonna go to sleep. Goodnight, Mosquito God, I hope you enjoy this new web of yours. Because I am not dealing with it right now. Way too much work. Way. Too. Much. Hopefully it will at least protect the eggs while I’m asleep. That was what we asked for.
