We meet again

Hello again. Today I had a new run in with an old enemy.

After waking up and feeding Julius and myself some brekkers we set off againon our merry way.

Time passed and aggressive critters were made extra crispy. I had decided in my questionable wisdom to teach Julius how to fly. I guess I could just carry him around, but what if those nasty don't-burn birds attack me and he falls? I shudder to think of it. How better to teach than a live demonstration?

I scooped him up from where he was investigating a particularily suspicious bush. It looked pretty shady. HA!

.....

*cough* moving on.

I scooped up Julius and took flight. His panicked squeal of sheer terror slowly morphed into a scream of joy and excitement. I could feel a smile stretching my face as the wind pulled tears from my eyes. Spinning and spiraling through the morning sky.

I do love to fly.

I showed Julius my wings and he picked up the idea pretty quick. There were some differences though. I had massive feathered wings of crimson and gold flame, with smaller darker red hind wings on my ankles. Julius seemed to take inspiration from the hoppers we had been blasting yesterday.

Vivid red insect wings buzzed happily from his fluffy back propelling him lazily through the air in swirls and loop-de-loops. He bumbled about for a while until, seemingly disatisfied with his speed, his little round fluffball tail twitched twice and then ignited. A high pitched squeak and a trail of hot air was all that remained to be seen as Julius rocketed off into the horizon.

In a panic I took off after him, but his lack of control and sheer speed made catching him extremely difficult. He would randomly make large and small swoops and spirals. Shooting up into the sky and plummeting back down towards the ground. Jinking and kinking through the sky with no warning. Finally after an extended display of acrobatic excellence I had my prize. A very excited little buddy who, judging from his twitching ears, was very keen to have another go.

It was at this moment, while looking down at my friend and companion and preparing a lecture of the safe methods of flight that I had a run in with an old enemy.

Literally.

The invisible wall from the desert. I careened off of the objecting surface and straight into the ground. Again. This is honestly very frustrating. Now that I am actually looking I can see the wall again just a short flight away, but beyond my reach with this annoying thing in my way.

I spent the rest of the day trying to lecture a very uninterested Julius and soothe the throbbing headache that one gets from testing the hardness of invisible wall with ones head.

On a side note, the 'invisible' wall is actually very pale green. I just keep being distracted and then not noticing it right when it matters most.

Goodnight.
