How to get lost: a wanderers guide
The long ears of friendship

The long ears of friendship

Hello again. Today I found something adorable.

When I woke up I had a big comfy stretch. The massive fight and blaze of yesterday have worked out the last of the wrinkles in my mood from the previous days rain driven luck. Carnage is calming you know? Feeling like the king of the world I set out on my way with a cocky strut.

Naturally, the world likes to knock me over when my head gets too big. A twisted bunch of grass caught my foot. Bringing me down to earth in the most literal way possible. Once I got back up I set off again. More cautious of the worlds caprices this time.

I didn't get far before the grumbles in my tummy sent me scouring for food. The glowfruits were still in my satchel from all that time ago, but I was hesitant to eat something that messed with my tingles more than necessary. Plus, whenever I would think off eating them I would feel a sense of fullness. Not from my guts but from my gut you know? LIke I had already eaten all I could of that particular foodstuff. I found a few sour berries but that was it. Whether the tower bugs had chased everything near their territory off, or the fire had sent them running I don't know.

So it was that I found myself searching ardently for animals to invite to breakfast. I had no luck for what seemed like forever. Then I saw a wake in the grass. Something was moving! And things that can move can be eaten.

So I sent a blast of fire at the grass around the movement. The grass burned away leaving an absolutely adorable critter looking confused but oddly unharmed in its midst. I scooped up the dazed little critter to get a better look.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

The first thing I noticed was its color. Bright shades of red and orange interplayed and faded into each other along the cuties thick fluffy coat. Then there was the ears. Long fuzzy ears rose high from its fuzzy head. Intelligent blue eyes met mine above a little twitching pink nose. A little ball of firey fluff decorated its posterior.

Curious how this cutie had survived my full blast fire attack I whistled up a little fire into its face. It sat there in my arms, unfazed for about a second before it gave a particularily violent twitch of the nose and sneezed adorably. Sending a gout of flame right back into my face.

How cute was that! The little fellow mimicked me!

I lost track of time as we just stood there blowing fire at each other. Finally My stomach gave my brain a kick and I came out of the cuteness fueled fugue. I briefly considered eating the firefluff, thats what I called it, before giving up the idea as morally wrong. We were birds of a feather. So I plopped Julius the firefluff on my head and off we went to find some lunch, it was to late for breakfast.

The rest of the day was a happy romp from one meal to the next. Julius turned up his nose at the grunter I cooked for lunch but I fished out one of those glowfruits from out of the satchel. The fruit was larger than the diminutive firefluff but he had at it with a determined squeak, the light of conquest in his eye.

Later, I cradled the twitching critter with delusions of granduer and a swollen stomach, and put the two thirds of the glowfruit remaining back in the satchel. I had a few dozen of the things still so I guess I wouldn't have to worry about finding him another food source for a while.

Other than that today was largely uneventful. I got to know Julius and walked. I killed anything that attacked me and burned every hive or patch of poisonous plants I saw. I found a few kafizzle fruit, and tucked them into the satchel. Just in case I ever want to ruin somethings day.

Now I lie under the stars again. My new friend resting on my stomach.

I am glad I am not alone anymore.

Goodnight.
