A think was thought

Hello again! There is something magical about a sunset.

After a long day of losing card games because Onica is a cheat and Lena is a fast learner, there is nothing that calms my frazzled mind quite like gazing at the vibrant purples, pinks, and reds of the setting sun.

It looks like the entire sky is alight with some mysterious fire…

I wonder if I could light the entire sky on fire?

I bet I could.

I just got yelled at.

Apparently, it is considered quite rude, and also illegal, to try and set the sky on fire. Who would have guessed? Anyway, we’ve been making what I assume is good progress. In what I assume is the right direction. Lena assures me it is in fact the right direction and that I need to “Stop navigating with your gut!”

I respectfully disagree.

My gut has gotten me to every meal I can ever remember! My gut is what led me to eat glowing fungus in a sewer! My gut is what led me to Julius, Lena, Onica, and Fen! My gut might make errors, but it never makes mistakes!

Well, I guess if we know where we are going, and how to get there, then it might be kind of unnecessary to use my gut. But since when did I let that stop me?

Just because something is completely unnecessary doesn’t mean it is bad.

Take dessert for example.

You are already full. Your nutrition needs have been fully met, and in some cases exceeded. More food would be entirely unnecessary, or even downright unhealthy. But what kind of madman would you have to be to turn your nose up at dessert?

What? Did that pie insult you or something?

No? Then swallow your pride, and swallow that pie!

I wonder if a pie even can insult someone? I mean, I would have never guessed a tophat would be capable of pranks and bad art. It seems like anything is possible in this wonderful mad world we live in.

How marvelous!

I must keep my eyes out for a sentient wildberry cobbler or philosophical fruit tart. I think we could have a very full and rich, if brief, friendship. Actually, I wonder if I even should eat it, should I find one.

I do wear Fen as a hat on occasion, but it doesn’t cause him any harm. He seems to quite enjoy it actually. Might be like how Onica likes to meditate sometimes. She just sits very still and very silent.

Like a hat.

Nothing can sit quite as still as a hat. Not even a rock!

I should know, Fen once had a sit-off with a smallish boulder. The boulder moved first.

Honest!

Lena did say Fen cheated, and used his wind to wobble the boulder. But we didn’t exactly make up a whole long list of rules, so I figure it is still a valid claim.

Lena does that a lot, I’ve noticed. She likes to make up rules for things, and then not tell anyone else the rules. Until you break them of course. Like, well, like setting the sky on fire for example. Where is it written that a man isn’t allowed to set the sky on fire?

Nowhere, I bet.

Then there are rules like, don’t walk around naked, don’t stare blankly into the ether while mumbling incoherently, don’t scratch your ass then sniff your finger, don’t eat the last bit of food she was saving. Loads of stuff.

To be fair, she follows her own rules at least. Though I’m beginning to suspect that isn’t as hard for her as it is for me…

It isn't like I really mind all that much though, honestly. Without Julius, Lena, Onica, and Fen I would be a very sad man. Fire may be warm, but it isn’t the best company.

The sun is down now. All alone in the sky all day long, and as soon as it goes away millions of stars come out to play.

I wonder if the sun gets lonely?

Goodnight.
