Chapter 41: The Phoenix Power

This defense personnel wizard contacted the control room via his single earphone.

“Our Phoenix automatons suddenly turned off.”

In the control room, the researcher division wizards were shocked to hear that. The researcher leader’s expression turned astonished.

“Even though the Phoenix leader has just shown significant stability development, and now the Phoenix automatons are also experiencing problems?”

The researcher leader looked at the monitors before him in astonishment; he then realized something.

“Check the magical energy measurements recording between the automatons and the Phoenix leader.”

One of the wizards at the control desk was operating the computer before him, and the monitor was now showing the Phoenix leader magical energy measurements. The researcher leader realized something.

“The magic fragments distribution to the automatons made Phoenix leader unstable and caused the other automatons to turn off suddenly.”

One of the wizards’ expressions at the control desk turned surprised.

“The phoenix leader’s probability of losing control is 60%, sir.”

The researcher leader was shocked; his expression then turned serious.

“Warn defense personnel to stop the Phoenix leader at all costs.”

One of the wizards at the control desk nodded.

“Understood, sir.”

The wizards at the control desk then operated the computers before them.

Back to the area around the library building. Defense personnel get a voice message via their single earphone.

“Attention to all defense personnel: The Phoenix leader is malfunctioning; you are allowed to use any means to stop it.”

The defense personnel were shocked; they turned towards the Phoenix leader, perched on top of one of the skyscrapers in the distance. One of the defense personnel’s expressions turned serious.

“Stop it? Are you kidding....”

In the distance, the Phoenix leader’s attention was drawn towards the library building and then roared. The Phoenix leader flew with its gigantic wings from its perch, destroying the skyscraper rooftop surface towards the library building.

Back in the control room, the researcher division monitored the Phoenix leader’s movements through a row of monitors on the control desk and was shocked.

“Phoenix leader began to move from its place and flew toward the library building, sir.”

The researcher leader was shocked.

“Why is it heading there?”

The researcher leader looked at the row of monitors on the control table, then appeared to realize something.

“It seems the command we gave to the Phoenix automatons also affected it, and it headed towards the targets.”

One of the wizards turned to the researcher leader.

“What should we do, sir?”

The researcher leader’s expression turned serious.

“We should find a way quickly to stop the Phoenix leader; open the book of the dimensional magic archive.”

The other wizards’ expressions turned serious; they operated the computer before them and displayed some contents of the book of dimensional magic.

Back to some time before. Daganzo, Alton, and Furano stood alertly and were about to mount the flying broomsticks in their hands. Not long after, the Phoenix automaton near them experienced a power failure and fell on the floor, drawing their attention immediately. The glowing patterns all over the Phoenix’s body grew dimmer until they finally out. Daganzo opened his mask and examined his Phoenix automaton in astonishment.

“Strange, even though there was no damage to the machine, this phoenix automaton suddenly turned off.”

Furano appeared to realize something.

“They probably forcibly turned it off from a distance, knowing you were using it?”

Daganzo nodded.

“It’s possible somehow I have a bad feeling about this.”

Not long after, they heard the Phoenix leader roar, drawing their attention immediately to the windows on the library’s ceiling. Alton’s expression turned astonished.

“What was that roar?”

Daganzo’s expression turned serious.

“I don’t know, but it doesn’t sound like a normal Phoenix automaton’s roar.”

Not long after, they saw from the windows on the ceiling that several defense personnel were riding their flying broomsticks, crossing the top of the library building. Furano’s expression turned curious.

“The defense personnel seem to be flying away from this building.”

Daganzo’s expression turned astonished.

“I also didn’t see any Phoenix automatons following them. Did their Phoenix also turned off?”

Their expressions turned curious. Daganzo examined his Phoenix automaton again. Alton looked at Furano with a cheerful smile.

“Furano?”

Furano turned to Alton.

"Yes, Alton?"

Alton smiled.

“Seeing you warms my heart.”

Furano smiled. Alton smiled gently.

"Makes me always want to be with you."

Furano was surprised; she then smiled.

Outside the library building, the Phoenix leader automaton flew across the city and arrived at the library building, surprising the defense personnel, who immediately rode their broomsticks away from the library building. The Phoenix leader landed on top of the library building, shattering the windows’ glass panes on the ceiling and shaking the building strongly, immediately drawing Daganzo, Furano, and Alton’s attention. Alton’s expression turned amazed.

“A gigantic Phoenix automaton?”

Daganzo’s expression turned serious.

“I just found out, too.”

Furano’s expression turned worried.

“We have to get out of here quickly.”

Alton and Daganzo nodded. Daganzo put his mask back on. The three got on their broomsticks and flew toward the rows of windows on the one side of the second floor.

On the roof of the library building, the Phoenix leader opened its beak, and a fiery fire appeared. Not long after, the Phoenix breathed a powerful burst of fire from its beak, destroying and penetrating the building’s roof. Daganzo, Furano, and Alton flew past the tall bookshelves to their right and left; they looked back momentarily and realized that a powerful burning fire was spreading rapidly throughout the library, surprising them. They accelerated the speed of their flying broomsticks and managed to fly out of the library through the side windows.

Not long after, huge fire explosions occurred in every window; this building collapsed and was destroyed. The Phoenix leader standing atop the building also fell into the fire explosion, stopping its burst of fire breaths. Daganzo, Alton, and Furano stopped their broomsticks and turned back; they were shocked to see the library building was almost completely destroyed, leaving only an expansive fire blaze behind. Alton’s expression turned serious.

“That was close.”

Furano’s expression turned curious.

“Why do Defense personnel wizards stay away from that gigantic automaton?”

Daganzo nodded with an astonished expression.

“Defense personnel wizards wouldn’t give the order to destroy a building just like that; it seems that Phoenix is beyond their control.”

Not long after, the Phoenix leader stood up, raising some parts of its body above the fire blaze; its attention then focused on Daganzo, Furano, and Alton, surprising them. Furano’s expression turned worried.

“The Phoenix is looking this way....”

Daganzo nodded.

“We have to go now.”

Furano and Alton nodded. They controlled their flying broomsticks and sped away. The Phoenix leader ran out from the fire blaze, causing a huge fire blast momentarily; it then continued to run forward on the road between the buildings using both its wings and metal legs with sharp talons, destroying the road surface, then jumped and flew after Daganzo, Furano, and Alton.

At a considerable distance, the defense personnel were shocked to see how the Phoenix leader could easily destroy an expansive building. One of the defense personnel’s expressions turned serious.

“We divided into several teams; some took care of the Phoenix automaton bodies, some took care of the burning buildings, and the rest teamed up with me to chase and try to stop the Phoenix leader. The team that finished their task immediately helped the other teams.”

According to instructions, dozens of defense personnel divided themselves into three teams; one team flew away after the Phoenix leader, and the rest flew toward the destroyed library building.

The dozens of defense personnel flew towards the library; some landed on the road around it, and their broomsticks flew after them in a standing position, not too far behind them. Each of them took out a small, rectangular box with small double doors as a lid from behind their overcoats. The wizards cast a magic spell to their box, the lid opened, and a cloth emerged from inside the box. The wizards put it on the Phoenix automaton, and this cloth widened until it covered the Phoenix’s entire body. The cloth deflated and retracted back into the box, and the phoenix automaton body was no longer there. The other wizards also casted similar magic spells to store the other phoenix bodies.

Dozens of other defense personnel wizards drew their Existence swords from their scabbards and then pointed them at the blazing fire before them.

“Fire out.”

The same magic spell was also casted by other wizards, and the blazing fire gradually got smaller.

Daganzo, Furano, and Alton accelerated their flying broomsticks through the night sky covered in glass walls magic spells; the Phoenix leader flew after them using its gigantic wings. Behind them, dozens of defense personnel wizards rode their flying broomsticks chasing the Phoenix leader. One of the defense personnel communicates through the single earphone in his ear.

“Request backup from the defense personnel on patrol to deal with the Phoenix leader.”

One of the wizards rode their flying broomstick on patrol in another location, replied via his single earphone.

“Understood, we’ll be there immediately.”

One of his comrades’ expression rode flying broomstick beside him turned hesitate.

“Chasing Phoenix leader was a mistake.”

His other comrades nearby nodded.

“Right, what if it turns against us?”

Their other comrades’ expressions turned serious.

“Whatever it is, we can’t let it fly freely in the middle of the city.”
