Chapter 20: The Library

Daganzo was surprised; he then nodded. Co-leader resumed talking.

“We have to be on standby until the dimensional gate can back to normal, or there are other orders. We can only wait.”

Daganzo’s expression turned curious.

“I understand, sir. I’ll excuse myself.”

The co-leader nodded. Daganzo then walked out of the room.

Daganzo walked down the corridor toward the center of the building and arrived at an open hallway in one of the groups of buildings. Daganzo heads to the elevator and enters it. Daganzo pressed the button for the 30th floor; the elevator doors closed, then began to move down.

In the elevator, Daganzo stood facing the glass wall while looking at the center of the building's view, where the ceiling rose from the first floor to the top floor. Daganzo thought.

“I should look for information that might be related to the Book of Dimensional Magic.”

Sometime later, the elevator arrived on the 30th floor. The elevator door opened, and Daganzo then walked out of the elevator.

Daganzo walked along the corridor and arrived before a tall wooden double door decorated with beautiful carvings, with a metal sign that said “Library” next to it; he then entered this room. Inside the room is an expansive library that extends forward, with a ceiling height that combines the height of the three floors of the building with rows of large classical-style chandeliers.

On the left is a row of metal framed glass window panes. Along the front of the window panes are rows of groups of single couches and long couches with a short table in the middle, a carpet underneath, floor lamps, etc. On the right is a three-story library with open hallways with wooden railings and a row of glossy brown wooden pillars with beautiful carvings on each floor, which contains high bookshelves made of beautifully carved wood arranged neatly and orderly, with sliding ladders before them. Wall lamps are installed in various corners of these bookshelves, walls, and railing pillars. In front of the open hallway are many staircases with a glossy brown wooden railing decorated with beautiful carvings and several elevators connecting the three floors of this library.

Daganzo walked further into this expansive library and passed a beautifully carved wooden front desk with a row of shelves and framed glass panes behind it; several employees guarded it. Throughout the library, Daganzo could see books, documents, and rolls of paper flying toward somewhere around the library and arranging themselves on the shelves; some came off the shelves by themselves and floated, then flew off somewhere. After Daganzo collected the books he wanted to read, he carried them in both hands, with some books floating after him nearby. Daganzo sat on one of the long couches in the group of couches before the row of glass window panes and placed the books he was carrying on the short table before him. Daganzo skimmed through these books and found nothing that caught his attention. Daganzo’s expression turned astonished as he thought.

“The Book of Dimensional Magic is a very mysterious magical item; it has never been recorded in any knowledge or history, and no witnesses have ever seen anything related to magic or knowledge in the book.”

Daganzo’s expression turned confused, and he continued reading his books.

Sometime later, Daganzo was still reading his book with a bored expression. Daganzo looked around him, and the atmosphere around him was getting quieter, with other people in the library far from where he was sitting. Daganzo remembered something; he then took out the smartphone that Furano had given him from his overcoat’s inner pocket. Daganzo watched this smartphone with a curious expression as he thought.

“The closing of these dimensional gates for who knows how long, make the investigations into dimensional magic and the multiverse are increasingly difficult. Investigations with other wizards from other Earth would be very useful….”

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Daganzo turned on the smartphone in his hand and checked it. Daganzo realized that this smartphone contained limited features, and when making a call, it would automatically connect to only one destination without any further information. Daganzo’s expression turned curious as he thought.

“It seems this smartphone has been modified....”

Daganzo looked around him and made sure the condition was safe. Daganzo made a phone call from this smartphone, which immediately tried to contact only one destination that did not have any information.

In another place, Furano and Alton rode their flying broomsticks at not very high altitude from the buildings around them, and they realize that three First Earth wizards carrying existence swords sheathed in scabbards attached to baldrics at their waists, carry out patrols around this area. Furano slowed down her broomstick and gave a hand signal to Alton for them to reduce their altitude.

Furano and Alton landed on one of the quiet pedestrian roads between the buildings and got off their broomsticks, which then floated after them in standing positions. They immediately hid behind the wall of one of the buildings at the pedestrian road junction while watching the sky warily. Furano looked alert and realized something; she then opened her cloak slightly.

“They’re flying too close, take cover in here so you don’t get detected by their devices.”

Alton was surprised and nodded; he then went in and took cover behind Furano’s cloak with an embarrassed expression.

Not long after, the three wizards flew past slightly higher than the surrounding buildings near where Furano and Alton were observing. These three wizards rode their flying broomsticks while carrying detection devices resembling pocket watches with a clockwork hour hand magic circle floating above them. Even though they flew pretty close to where Alton and Furano were hiding, their detection device didn’t react, making the three wizards unaware of Furano and Alton’s presence, and they only flew further away. Alton breathed a sigh of relief. Furano reopened her cloak.

“Okay, It’s safe now.”

Alton’s expression turned awkward; he nodded and got out of Furano’s cloak. Alton looked at the sky momentarily, then turned to Furano.

“We’ve run into those sword-wielding wizards several times already.”

Furano turned to Alton and nodded.

“You’re right, we should rest now.”

Alton was slightly surprised; he then smiled and nodded.

“Good idea.”

They then walked away and walking down this quiet pedestrian road.

Not long after, Furano’s smartphone rang, surprising her slightly. Furano took out her smartphone from behind her cloak and was surprised to see her smartphone screen because the person calling her was a contact from the smartphone she gave Daganzo. Alton watched Furano curiously.

“What’s wrong, Furano?”

Furano turned to Alton.

“A wizard from First Earth that I offered to cooperate, he finally called me.”

Alton was surprised; his expression then turned doubtful.

“I don’t know, are you sure this isn’t a trap?”

Furano’s expression turned doubtful.

“We’ll think about that later.”

Alton nodded. Furano answered a call from Daganzo.

“Hello?”

Daganzo, who was in the library, was surprised to find that his call with this smartphone was connected to a destination. Daganzo felt familiar with Furano’s voice but decided to make sure.

“Who am I talking to?”

Furano’s expression turned slightly astonished.

“This is me who gave you that smartphone.”

Daganzo was surprised.

“Alright... I wanted to tell you that I decided to accept your offer to cooperate in conducting the multiverse investigation.”

Furano was surprised.

“Okay, we better discuss it directly. Let’s meet on the pedestrian road in a park at the city outskirts at three this afternoon.”

Daganzo was slightly surprised; he looked at his watch momentarily, and the time showed 1:10 pm.

“Alright then, I agree.”

They then ended their respective calls. Alton crossed his arms with a doubtful expression.

“So, we’re really going to meet him?”

Furano put her smartphone back and turned to Alton.

“Right, he could be a big help to us.”

Alton still looked doubtful; he then nodded. Alton appeared to realize something.

“How about we have lunch?”

Furano just realized they hadn’t had lunch yet; she smiled and nodded.

“Good idea.”

Alton smiled and nodded. They then got on their respective broomsticks and then flew away from here.

Sometime later, they arrived at a quiet, wide pedestrian road on the city outskirts and landed here. Alton got off his broomstick, took out his sheathed, bladeless soul dagger from his waist bag, and aimed it at his broomstick.

“Hide, Dragon Wings.”

Alton’s broomstick then flew away from here. On the other hand, Furano took off her cloak, held it in her left hand, and held her broomstick in her right hand.

“Save to inventory.”

Furano’s broomstick and cloak gradually disintegrate into grains of light quickly until they finally disappear completely. Furano let her Handgun of Spellcaster holstered and attached to the baldric at her waist. Alton crossed his arms while watching Furano with a curious expression.

“What is the name of the magic spell you used to store those items? You even did it without using your handgun.”

Furano was surprised; she then smiled.

“As you heard, I just had to say save to inventory.”
