Chapter 32: Final Adjustments

The defense personnel rode their flying broomsticks and arrived on the 10th floor of this building; they then landed in an open hallway in one of the groups of buildings with a main corridor leading to the main entrance of the building. The defense personnel walked together towards the main corridor, which was wider than the other corridors while chatting. Daganzo was riding his flying broomstick to follow the defense personnel. Daganzo landed in the open hallway on the 10th floor and watched them leave warily as he thought.

“It seems that that’s were all their activities here and will return to their duties, while waiting for the instructions if the phoenix automatons ready to be used….”

Daganzo walked towards the open hallway railing in the center of the building; he leaned his body forward on the railing and leaned his broomstick against the railing beside him as he thought.

“I’d better contact Furano.”

Daganzo took out his smartphone from the inner pocket of his overcoat while observing his surroundings warily.

In the library building, Alton sat on the carpet and still copied a copy of the Book of Dimensional Magic on the short table before him, still wearing a cat ears headband. Furano still wearing a wolf ears headband and her cloak with the hood part open, stood near one of the windows while crossing her arms with a worried expression and watched the night sky covered in Glass Walls magic spells in the shape of glass with an uneven surface. A black panel with white writing appeared beside Furano momentarily.

[User’s stats]

[Senses: 70]

Furano was suddenly surprised and looked around outside the window as she thought.

“I sense a massive source of magical energy suddenly appear for a moment, I don’t even need to fully concentrate….”

Alton looked at Furano curiously.

“Are you okay?”

Furano came to her senses and then turned to Alton. Furano smiled.

“Yes, I’m fine.”

Alton nodded, then continued copying the book. Furano looked outside the window as she thought.

“I can sense that the magical energy source is far away, but I can’t tell where….”

Furano closed her eyes and concentrated and tried to sense it again but couldn’t; she fell silent in thought.

“I don’t sense it anymore. That energy source somehow subsided or.... was it just my imagination?”

Furano’s expression turned doubtful.

Furano walked away from the window and sat on the carpet before Alton; Furano took one of the books on the table before her and read it. Alton watched Furano curiously.

“Can I ask you something?”

Furano came to her senses and turned to Alton.

“Yes, Alton.”

Alton smiled gently.

“I wonder when you are nice to me, is it because you are just being kind or is it because you like me?”

Furano smiled, then closed the book and put it on the table.

“Of course because I like you Alton.”

Alton’s expression turned confused.

“Oh, I see.”

Furano smiled. Alton watched Furano curiously; he then crossed his arms on the table and smiled cheerfully.

“I like you.”

Furano was surprised. Alton smiled with a cheerful but somewhat gloomy expression.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“Will you think that I’m just being kind to you, or truly because I like you?”

Furano watched Alton curiously; she then smiled.

Furano’s smartphone rang and immediately caught her and Alton’s attention. Furano took out her smartphone from the pocket of her trousers and was slightly surprised to find out that Daganzo contacted her. Furano turned to Alton.

“Daganzo called.”

Alton was slightly surprised.

“He might had important informations.”

Furano nodded; she then picked up the call.

“Yes, Daganzo?”

Daganzo answered as he stood up, leaned against the open hallway railing behind him on the tenth floor, and watched his surroundings warily.

“I managed to get one of the new Phoenix automaton devices. I can only checked it briefly yet and found no weaknesses. I’ll check again more carefully if I can summon it later.”

Furano’s expression turned curious.

“Do you know how these automatons works?”

Daganzo looked slightly doubtful.

“Yes, the user attaches a pocket watch contained some kind of magic fragments to the automaton which will then recognize the user as its master. The user can uses magic spells to give various commands to it.”

Furano was surprised.

“Such magical technology must come from very powerful magic….”

Daganzo appeared to remember something.

“Right, and there are dozens of defense personnel wizards who were given these new devices. I will come to your location, I might be able to help if the situation gets worse.”

Furano was surprised.

“But, what if they find out that we are working together?”

Daganzo fell silent in thought while looking at his surroundings, and his attention was then focused on one of the large TVs attached to the outside parts of the open hallway railing on the floor above him in the opposite direction from the open hallway where he was. The TV showed a news program entitled “Who is the mysterious man trying to stop Black Star?” while showing video footage of the fight between someone called Black Star against a man wearing a black armored hooded cloak and black metal mask with fiery red patterns on the eyes part. Daganzo appeared to realize something.

“I have a good idea for that.”

Furano was surprised; her expression then turned curious.

“Alright, I was at the library in the middle of the city.”

Daganzo replied.

“Okay, I’ll go there.”

They ended their respective calls. Daganzo put his smartphone back into the inner pocket of his overcoat, then took his broomstick, leaned on the railing beside him, and walked away.

Daganzo walked through the main corridor toward the building’s main entrance on the tenth floor while carrying his broomstick in his right hand. Daganzo walked past the Front desk and arrived at the guest hall of the building’s main entrance. Daganzo got on his broomstick and rode it to fly out of the building.

Back to sometime ago. The researcher leader stood with his arms crossed in the control room on the 56th floor and watched the five meters tall phoenix leader metal automaton inside the hangar from the view outside a row of framed glass panes before him with a serious expression.

“We’ll continue the phoenix leader trials.”

The wizards operated the control desk before them. The researcher leader opened the book copy of Phoenix Automaton Control Magic in his hand.

“The risen phoenix; quench the power of your eternal flame.”

Not long after, the Phoenix leader became calmer; the flames burning all over its body returned to the magic core in its chest gradually and quickly. Even though the metal that makes up the phoenix leader automaton’s body is burned, it doesn’t show much significant change because of the phoenix leader’s power. One of the wizards in a lab coat operated the control desk before him.

“Starting the improvement process.”

Countless cables extended from the gigantic machine merge on the hangar’s ceiling. These cables moved and reattached to all over the Phoenix leader’s body. One of the wizards sitting at the control desk operated the computer before him.

“Preparing the phoenix leader for the final adjustments and stabilization.”

The monitors show that the energy source is being channeled again to stabilize the Phoenix leader and make it calmer and more stable than before. Dozens of mechanical hands with tips resembling the tips of pliers with magic writing descended from the machine, merged on the hangar’s ceiling, and made adjustments to several parts of the machine inside the phoenix leader automaton’s body through the gaps of the joints all over its metal body that emitted red light.

Sometime later, the monitor before one of the wizards at the control desk showed that the Phoenix leader’s final adjustment and stabilization process had been completed. The cables were detached and retracted back to the hangar’s ceiling together with the mechanical hands. The researcher leader’s expression turned serious.

“Because it is not yet fully complete, it will only serve as an magical energy source for other automatons first, and we will monitor its development through the device embedded in its body.”

The other wizards agreed. The researcher leader opened the book copy of the Phoenix leader’s control.

“The risen phoenix, observe the other automatons doing their duties.”

The Phoenix leader reacted, and the monitors on the control desk showed the probability that the Phoenix leader would lose control, and this time, it stopped at 45%. The phoenix leader supports his body with both legs and wings and looks more stable than before, although sometimes still suddenly showing aggressive movements, but then turns confused and calmed again. Phoenix’s leader looked at its surroundings curiously. The researcher leader smiled.

“It seems that Phoenix leader is getting more and more stable.”

The other Wizards in the room agree. The researcher leader resumed speaking.

“Open the hangar door.”

One of the wizards operated the control desk before him; the hangar floor then moved down, causing the phoenix leader to look at its surroundings curiously. The floor continued moving down until a long tunnel appeared behind the phoenix leader. Phoenix’s leader turned around and faced the tunnel behind it. At the end of this tunnel is a large double metal door protected from the outside by the barrier magic spells, so it is hidden and looks like part of an ordinary building with framed glass window panes. The metal door moves open entirely inward, revealing a night view of the city outside the building and the night sky covered in Glass Walls magic spell.
