Chapter 31: The Magic Core

The researcher leader read the document in his hands, which contained progress notes for the phoenix leader automaton before him, as he thought.

“Magical automaton technology was obtained from the Book of Dimensional Magic, and the Researcher Division are trying to create and even develop it if possible.”

The Researcher leader flipped through the documents’ pages in his hands and came to a note entitled “The Automaton”:

“The automatons have very limited combat capabilities, but when used as an artificial body, they provide significant gains in durability and any part of the automaton that is damaged can also be quickly repaired or replaced.”

The next page shows pictures of several Phoenix automatons and explains how to make and assemble them. Researcher Leader flipped through the next page and came to a page that showed a black and white drawing of a phoenix automaton and a phoenix with the title “Phoenix Resurrection” above it and the following explanation:

“Phoenix Resurrection is a magic spell to create magical core as an artificial soul based on the phoenix and then put it into an automaton as an artificial body. Phoenix Resurrection magic spell was originally used to save the life of a phoenix, but was unsuccessful in saving its soul. Because magical core was not an actual soul, the automaton phoenix have limitations that make it resemble a machine rather than living being, and possibility to lose control. Full vigilance is required. The user can control the power of the phoenix and divide it in amounts that suit the new, weaker artificial body, without reducing the power of the main artificial body. Re-performing this magic will only create a phoenix magical core that has already been created before, and cannot be used again until the existing magical core disappears.”

The researcher leader’s expression turned serious as he thought.

“We tried the magical technology of the Phoenix automaton, per the instructions in this book. Although the phoenix automaton greatly resembled a living creature, it was actually just like a machine controlled by a program. Even so, the power of the phoenix is still stored in the magical core….”

The researcher leader places the document in his hand on the control desk.

“Wake the phoenix leader up.”

Several wizards wearing lab coats began to operate the control desk before them. Not long after, the Phoenix leader automaton opened its eyes and got up while supporting its body firmly with its two legs and two wings. The Researcher leader’s expression turned serious.

“Transmit the energy source to stabilize the Phoenix leader.”

One of the wizards in a lab coat operated the control desk before him, and the computer monitor before him showed an energy source being channeled to the Phoenix leader automaton through cables connected throughout its body. The Researcher leader watched this monitor carefully.

“The Phoenix leader must be able to remain stable even though it is not connected to another energy source to stabilize it….”

One of the wizards, who wore a lab coat, nodded.

“Understood, sir.”

Not long after, the monitor showed that the stabilization of the Phoenix leader was successful; one of the wizards before the monitors operated the control desk before him again.

“Stabilization has been completed.”

The Researcher Leader’s expression turned serious.

“Remove all the cables on the phoenix leader’s body.”

One of the wizards at the control desk nodded to the researcher leader.

Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.

“Understood, sir.”

This wizard then operates the control desk before him.

Countless cables connected to the large machine merged in the hangar ceiling, detached from the Phoenix leader’s body, and retracted into the ceiling without causing the Phoenix to react. The researcher leader looked at the automaton before him with a serious expression.

“Now, I will activate the phoenix power.”

The researcher leader took out a copy of the Book of Dimensional Magic from the inner pocket of his lab coat and then opened it; but it contained different writing and thickness than the usual copy of the book. Researcher leader thought.

“To activate the phoenix automaton leader, we need a Book of Dimensional magic or a copy of the book that is different from the usual copy of this book.”

Researcher leader concentrate.

“The phoenix that risen with its new body, release the power of your eternal flame.”

The other wizards in this room then operated the control desk and control panel before them to make observations.

Not long after, the phoenix leader started to react and then roared while flapping its wings several times, surprising the wizards in the control room. The fire began to burn in the slot in its chest, then spread to all parts of the Phoenix’s leader’s body. The Phoenix roared and flapped its wings so powerfully that it shook the building slightly. The wizards in this room watched the phoenix leader expectantly.

The Phoenix leader looked stable and showed no strange symptoms. It then used its two wings to support its body steadily. The researcher leader looked at one of the monitors before him that showed the percentage of this Phoenix automaton leader losing control was 30% and continued to increase until finally reaching 40%, surprising every wizard in this room. As the percentage increased, the phoenix leader began to make aggressive movements as if preparing to attack. The Phoenix leader slashed its right wing to the right and hit the thick concrete wall, leaving a large scratch mark and shaking the building slightly. One of the wizards in lab coats said.

“Probability of loss of control reaches 45%, preparing the forcible deactivation mechanism.”

Every wizard in the control room started to look anxious. The percentage of the Phoenix leader losing control continued to increase until it finally stopped at 49% and did not increase anymore. In the hangar before them, the phoenix leader looked stable, but then it suddenly looked alert and paid attention to its surroundings while using its legs and wings to support its body. Not long after, the phoenix leader looked confused, then calmed down again. Researcher leader’s expression turned serious.

“Even though the percentage of its to losing control has fallen, unfortunately its still has not far below 50%....”

The researcher leader crossed his arms and fell silent in thought with serious expression.

“Without the phoenix leader transmitted its magical core energy to the phoenix automatons around it at some distance, they would not have the power to fly….”

The other wizards in the room watched the Researcher leader curiously, awaiting his decision. The researcher leader watched the Phoenix leader outside the window before him.

“Prepare the phoenix leader to fly.”

Every wizard in this control room was shocked. The expression of one of the wizards sitting at the control desk turned astonished.

“Are you sure about it, sir?”

The researcher leader nodded, then looked at the phoenix leader before him with a serious expression.

“Yes, we have an agreement to test it flying out of the hangar if the probability of it getting lose control is below 50%.”

The expressions of the wizards in this room turned serious; they then nodded.

“We’ll prepare it to fly as soon as possible, sir.”

They then operate the control desk and control panels in this room.

In the library building, Alton sat on the long sofa on the second floor while watching the night sky covered in Glass Walls magic spells outside the window beside him as he thought.

“I don’t know whether I should be happy or not about the absence presence of the First Earth wizards....”

Alton remembered something; he then took out a copy of the book of dimensional magic and his notebook from behind his school vest.

“I’d better continue copying this book, and see whether I can use it soon or not.”

Alton sat on the carpet and copied the book on the short table before him.

Not long after, Furano walked up the stairs before the open hallway railing to the second floor and still wore a wolf ears headband. Furano walked over to where Alton was sitting, carrying cat ears headband in her hands. Alton was still copying the book and then noticed Furano’s arrival. Furano sat on the carpet before Alton and put the cat ears on his head. Alton watched Furano curiously.

“You buy me cat ears?”

Furano smiled.

“You’re right, cat ears.”

Furano watched Alton with a smile. Alton watched Furano curiously.

“Why you buy me cat ears?”

Furano smiled.

“Because I also like cat.”

Alton was surprised. Furano took one of the books on the table before her and then read it. Alton watched Furano curiously; he then smiled.

The dozens of defense personnel walked out of the Phoenix automatons hangar on the 55th floor while carrying their broomsticks. They walked along the corridor toward the center of the building. Daganzo walked after them while carrying his broomsticks and carefully observing his surroundings.

Sometime later, the defense personnel arrived at the open hallway in the center of the building on the 55th floor, in one of the groups of buildings that formed a shape resembling a pillar. They got on their broomsticks and then rode them to fly downstairs through the open section in the center of the building. Daganzo watched the defense personnel carefully, then got on his broomsticks and rode it to fly after them from behind.
