Interlude safe haven

Interlude safe haven

Alice walked outside through the backdoor, she hung forward and sighed, “He will be fine, right, Freya?”

“Yes, I don’t think those parasites can take down a magic being of his caliber.”

“While that is true, Freya, he does not have access to all his power. We should just try to find Lorraine for him, maybe that will give him a boost.” Alice started making her way through the streets. That is when she came across a sign plastered on the wall, safe haven—Follow the route to the park.

Alice felt someone charge at her, she turned around and swung her sword, but someone blocked it. Alice blinked a couple of times, “Not a zombie?”

A woman in pirate clothes smiled back, “No, not a zombie. What are you doing here?”

Alice sighed, “I doubt that is for you to know.”

The woman smiled and sheathed her sword. “Well, then you probably don’t want to know what I am doing here.”

Alice sighed, “Fine, my name is Alice, I am looking for a woman named Lorraine.”

The woman stretched her hand, Alice took it. The woman smiled, “My name is Bonnie, and I am investigating these parasites.” Brown, long layered hair is pulled back to reveal a fresh, charming face. Big, round blue eyes, set elegantly within her sockets.

Alice shook her head, “You are not from this world, are you?”

Bonnie started walking forward, “Are you coming?”

Alice nodded, “Alright. Who are you?”

Bonnie smiled, “If you had not noticed from my black pirate outfit, I am going under the radar. I am just here to investigate how big of a threat this parasite is. And I came across you, that is all.”

A zombie came towards them, Bonnie shot a dark green beam of energy and the zombie exploded. Alice looked at her, “How can you use magic like that?”

Bonnie looked at her, “You don’t come from this world, right? You should know about energy.”

As another zombie came close, Alice shot a red energy beam. “Yes, but you are a human.”

Bonnie smiled and showed her left hand. Alice looked at some kind of gauntlet that she had equipped, it covered a large portion of her hand and arm. Alice shook her head, “What is that kind of technology? I have never seen it before.”

Bonnie started walking forward, “Are you coming with me or what?”

Alice nodded and followed Bonnie. She has no clue what is going on, or who this woman is. Or if her name is even Bonnie. Besides, being dressed as a pirate is not very stealthy.

They kept walking forward, and suddenly zombie dogs ran out of an alleyway towards them. Bonnie drew her sword, “My sensors indicate these are creatures that are immune to magic. Be careful of their bite.”

Alice drew her sword, “You are a strange woman.”

Bonnie ran towards the zombie dog and slid under the dog and raised her sword. Blood flew out and as the other dog jumped towards Bonnie, she rolled aside and swung her sword sideways to chop off the zombie dog’s head. With ease, she jumped up as more zombie dogs came their way. Alice ran forward and threw her sword with force, and it landed inside the zombie dog’s brain in the front. Alice ran forward, did a front flip while grabbing her sword, and slamming it down into the next dog. Bonnie raised her left hand and a car lifted, then she slammed it against the other zombie dogs. As Alice saw another zombie dog come for her, she swung her sword with ease to kill it.

Bonnie walked over, “You fight well for an old lady.”

Alice looked at her, “What did you just call me?”

Bonnie smiled, “You know what I said, Freya.”

Alice grabbed her sword and clutched it tight in her hands, “Just who are you? How do you know these things?”

Bonnie shook her head and walked ahead, “Why don’t you just fly to your destination?”

Alice sighed, “What other things do you know?”

Bonnie smiled, “I know almost everything.”

Alice followed her, “Do you know where Micheal is?”

Bonnie smiled at her, “I wonder why people are being so confusing, and mysterious about Micheal. He will either show up when the time is right, or he won’t.”

Alice just kept following her for a while, occasionally taking down a zombie on the way. Alice saw a massive wall that got erected around the park.

Bonnie pointed, “That is your stop.”

Alice looked at her, “And where are you going?”

“I am going to find the meteorite that fell down with the parasites in them, these aren't the Rha parasites, but they might be behind it.”

Alice started walking to the entrance, completely ignoring that last part, Bonnie called out, “Oh and Alice?”

“Yes?”

“When we meet again and there is company, and I am sure we will meet, pretend like you don’t know me.”

Alice shook her head, “Why?”

Bonnie let out a sinister chuckle, “Otherwise I cannot be a good agent, if you agree, I don’t have to wipe your memory of us ever meeting.”

Alice sighed, “You are from the Agency, right? Bella told me about them.”

Bonnie laughed, “Those fools? No, I don’t have any affiliation with them. Now, go, I am on a timer here, get out of here as soon as possible, I will end the zombie apocalypse.” Bonnie walked away.

Alice sighed, “I have no clue what is up with her, but we should stick to our word and never mention her, I think caution around is her advised.” Alice walked over to the big door and called out to the people on top. “Hello there, I am not infected, I am looking for someone.” The gate slowly opened up and Alice walked through the gate.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

A man walked over to her, “Hello to our little camp, I know it reeks of death, but that smell is just the zombies, we are planting a garden, go there for some fresh air. We have a few people that we saved here.”

Gray, short hair is pulled back to reveal a lean, warm face. Glinting hazel eyes, set handsomely within his sockets. “My name is Chance Mercer, I am the person leading this small survivor’s camp. We have guards on the walls, power, water, a fairly normal life. We hope that the parasites will eventually starve.”

Alice smiled, “Mercer, you say?”

“Yes, why do you ask?”

“Well, I met Abby.”

“Wait, you know my little girl? Just like the other woman who found her way here.”

“Yes, if she is around, I am sure she is coming to this safe haven if possible, but, you met a friend of mine, is her name Lorraine?”

Chance nodded, “She is in that tent over there.”

“Alright, I need to get her, the man she loves has been bitten.”

Chance sighed, “Then he does not have long before he becomes one of these monsters.”

Alice nodded, “He wants to see her before he turns, and we need to kill him.”

Chance nodded, “Go find the right tent. We have a few tiny houses and tents.”

Alice chuckled, “I can see that,” she started walking to the tent that Chance pointed at.

Alice called out, “Lorraine?”

She came out of the tent, “Oh, you are not dead.”

Alice sighed, “Thanks for the confidence.”

Lorraine let out a smile from the corner of her mouth, “Have you found the others yet?”

Alice nodded, “I found Steve, but he is in bad shape.”

Lorraine gasped, “What do you mean?”

Alice started fiddling with her fingers, “He got ambushed and bitten by one of those zombies, he asked me to find you and take you to him.”

Lorraine let out a defeated sigh, “is he going to die?”

Alice shrugged, “How the fuck should I know? He looked as if he were turning into a zombie. He tried vomiting parasites on me.”

Lorraine scratched the back of her head, “Well, what are we waiting for? We should go find Steve, but where did Abby go?”

Alice shook her head, “We have not seen her, but we should get moving.”

Lorraine nodded and they started walking towards the exit. Chance stopped them, “If you see Abby, please tell her I am looking for her.”

Alice nodded, “Of course we will.”

Lorraine grabbed her sword, “We will cut down some zombies on our way to our friend for you.”

Chance nodded and gestured to open the gate, Alice and Lorraine quickly slipped out. As they started walking to the bakery, Lorraine looked around. “This is the place we saw getting destroyed.”

Alice nodded, “I think that white slime Steve told me about released some parasites to boot. Which is what created this zombie pandemic for the survivors.”

As they came across some zombies, they easily cut them down, but most of them seemed to lay down on the ground, they were not in the mood for chasing, walking, or anything else. Lorraine shook her head, “I have no clue why some of them are just laying there, they look so depressed.”

They heard weeping coming from an alleyway, Lorraine looked over, “It seems as if someone is crying.”

Alice laughed, “Don’t fall for it, Steve did the same. What you are hearing is a shrieker.”

Lorraine shrugged and nodded, “Alright, is it far to the bakery?”

Alice shook her head, “It is close by, but when we got chased by hundreds of zombies, it seemed to be much farther away.”

Lorraine sighed, “How did you even make it?”

Alice looked at her, “With some luck, no scrap that, a lot of luck, when we get to the bakery, we should use the back entrance, there are probably some zombies near the front door.”

Lorraine stopped Alice, “What are you hiding from us? And why are you this interested in, Steve? From what I gather, you barely know him.”

Alice looked at her, “Why should I tell you anything?”

Lorraine came closer and unsheathed her claws, “I can be very convincing when I need to be.”

Alice stared in her eyes, “You are hiding things too, aren't you? Especially from Steve. How about, you keep your secrets, and I keep mine?”

Lorraine came closer and whispered something in her ear. Alice gasped, “Holy motherfucking shit! Fine, why don't we slowly walk over to the backdoor and I tell you a few small things.”

Lorraine nodded, “That sounds like a good plan, but I will be very mean to you. Steve is mine, and if you even lay a hand on him.”

Alice sighed, “Fine, we are no friends, but as long as Steve keeps his hands off me, I won't touch him.”

Lorraine let out a fake smile, “Friends then?”

Alice grunted, “Fine, friends, but Steve is going to find out one day about your secret.”

Lorraine started walking and glanced at Alice, “If I find out he got it from you, I will gut you like a fish.”

Alice chuckled, “We should fight each other at full power.”

Lorraine laughed, “Sorry, I don't want to murder you, I know you held back and that you could have killed Robot Steve, if you ask me, Steve should have let you fall into the deep abyss.”

Alice grumbled, “I know you let him go on purpose since you don't want to kill him either, so you are hiding information too.”

Lorraine crossed her arms, “I guess we both know what is going on, what are your sources?”

Alice sighed, “Just life experience, you?”

Lorraine looked at the bakery, “From the previous chosen one, before I killed him.”

Alice ran over to her and grabbed her shoulder, “You are not going to kill Steve, are you?”

Lorraine reacted shocked, “What? No, I love the fucker for real, I decided to switch teams, now keep your whorey mouth shut with those weird remarks, or I will break all your limbs and toss you to the zombies without even blinking once.”
