Chapter 46

I woke up the next day, sleeping went hard without having a clear answer if she is pregnant or not. She had more work to do, if I went out early, I might get the answer before she goes off to work. I put on some comfortable clothes and made a small breakfast for Lory. I wrote a note for her. Out to get the test, woke up at the crack of dawn, love, your precious man. Alright, this will have to do.

“Oh yeah,” I added some kisses and hugs. Then I grabbed the keys and my jacket to go to the drugstore. As I went into the store, I saw many aisles with many drugs. They don’t call it a drugstore for shits and giggles. It took me some time to find the pregnancy tests. There were at least a dozen of them.

Someone called out to me, “Steve?” I looked around and saw a brute, big and burly man walk over towards me.

I sighed, “of course. Hello Riley, it has been a while since we have seen each other.”

Brown, greasy hair almost fully covers a furrowed, anguished face. Sparkling amber eyes, set concealed within his sockets. He smiled as he looked at what I was browsing. “Don’t tell me you got the foxy girl pregnant.”

“Her name is Lorraine, and she has no fox genetics, how many times do I need to repeat myself?”

He crossed his arms, “I am just messing around. Things have not been the same since you got laid off from work. Did you get a new job yet?”

“Yeah, only recently, as in, I am starting next week. How is Eva doing?”

Riley shook his head, “We broke up.”

“Oh, I am sorry to hear that.”

“Yeah, turns out, she is gay.”

I scratched the back of my head, “Are you messing with me?”

He shook his head, “You won’t believe it man, I came home from work, had a meeting, it got cancelled, so I got home early. When I got home, she lay in bed with another woman.”

“I am sorry, man.”

He shook his head, “Don’t be. I will be fine. But seriously, is Lorraine pregnant?”

I shrugged, “I don’t know for sure. Otherwise, I would not be standing here.”

He chuckled, “At least you still have those wisecracks.” He looked uncomfortable for a moment, “Is your kid going to have, like, a tail as well?”

“Yes, that is most likely the case, why do you ask?”

“I think it is a bit strange, how did Lorraine even end up with wolf DNA?”

I shrugged, “Who knows? Maybe a science experiment gone wrong? Or perhaps nature gone wrong.”

Riley chuckled awkwardly, “Both do not sound well. It is that I have met her, and she is a very nice lady. When you met her, she was kind of clueless about many things.”

I nodded, “I know, it was just the amnesia. But, what are you doing here?”

Riley sighed, “I think I might have knocked up my rebound.”

I gritted my teeth, “Oh dear, that’s not good.” I picked up one of the boxes with pregnancy tests. “I am going with this one.”

Riley picked the same one, he shrugged, “I think I will take the same one then.” We paid for it, the cashier looked at us with a strange look. We both did not want to explain. Outside, he spoke up, “It was good to see you again Steve, any other exciting things happened in your life recently?”

“Yeah, Lorraine and I are getting married, aside from this,” I held up the pregnancy test.

He chuckled, “Good to hear that, give her my greetings and congratulations.”

“I will do that, Riley, we should catch up properly. Are you in for a game of Dungeons and Dragons evening?”

He smiled, “Hell yeah.”

“Good, Lorraine thought up a new campaign recently, she loosely based it on that new game that came out.”

“Oh, Moon Fantasy, yeah playing it already, you?”

“Yeah, we are nearing the end. Working on getting the ultimate weapons for the secret boss.”

Riley smiled, “Send me the info on how to get them, you have my number, right?”

“Yeah, no worries Riley, I will do that.”

I got in the car and waved at Riley, then I drove home. This took longer than I wanted, but at least that man is still alive. He can be a bit mean, I think he is just clueless. Once I got home, I saw Lory eating her breakfast. “Hey darling, I am home, I just picked one of the tests, I had no clue which was the best one.”

She giggled, “Men.” I put down the test while giving her a kiss.

I started making coffee, “You will never guess who I ran into.”

“Who?”

“Riley.”

Lory sighed, “The man who keeps calling me a fox.”

“Yeah, he is just, fucking around and annoying everyone. I don’t think he is saying it to harm you, it is just because you are unlike anyone else.”

Lory nodded, “I agree, what did he say, how is Eva?”

“They broke up, Eva likes women.”

Lory gasped, “Oh, that is bad.”

“Yeah, imagine Riley walking in on her, that had to be a harsh breakup, they had been together for almost nine years. Long story short, he found a rebound and most likely knocked her up.”

Lory laughed, “That does sound like him.”

“Oh, and he would like to join us with Dungeons and Dragons.”

Lory nodded, “Alright, I am fine with that.” She started to rub her hands together.

I sighed, “You are going to annihilate him, aren’t you?”

She chuckled sheepishly, “Who knows?” Lory grabbed the test and walked to the bathroom. I tried not to look, but she probably noticed. I just made coffee for us while waiting. As I sat down, I started tapping my fingers on the table. While I did not have breakfast yet, the nerves were killing me. After what seemed like an eternity, Lory came back.

She just stared at me for a moment. “And?”

She started jumping up and down while screaming, I looked a bit confused, “Is that good?”

“Yes, you fucking moron!”

I stood up and jumped with her. “We will be parents!”

Lory kissed me, “We are going to have a baby.”

Lory looked at the time, “Oh shit, work!” She ran off to get dressed. That needed to sink for a moment. I started making a sandwich with some bacon and eggs. After ten minutes, Lory came back in a dress with little moons on them.

I smiled at her, “You look beautiful today.”

She smiled back, “Thanks, my love.”

“Honey?”

“Yes?”

“You need to lower your tail a bit.”

“Huh?”

“Or you might give people too much information.”

“Oh, thanks, my dear.” She lowered her tail, and her dress. She came over and instead of a kiss, she grabbed a piece of my bacon. Lory looked at me with that sneaky smile of hers. Then she gave me a kiss and walked away. “Have fun with your day off, darling.”

“Thanks, good luck with cutting people up.” She chuckled as she left.

Once I had my breakfast ready, I looked around. What should I do today? I could play some video games. Maybe there is a fun television show to watch? Oh, I could try looking for an ordained minister. I grabbed the laptop and started searching. “Oh, wait, I have an idea.”

I pulled out my smartphone and called someone named Sean. It rang a few times. Then he picked up, “Hello, this is Sean, who am I speaking to?”

“Hey man, it’s Steve.”

“Oh my god, Steve? I have not heard from you in a while. What is up?”

“Well, I wanted to catch up and ask you something.”

“Oh, you need something, so you call me?”

“Yes, basically. Lorraine and I are looking for someone who can officiate marriages, you have the license, right?”

“Yes, that is correct, and congratulations. When is the wedding?”

“Most likely somewhere in the next two months, just us, someone to officiate it, and a photographer.”

“Ah, eloping. That is always fun.”

I chuckled, “It is more that the day will be about us instead of the guests.”

“Yeah, I can understand that, it was a bummer when you got laid off, I liked having you around the office with meetings. The one day in the week we get stuffed in a cubicle was more fun when you were around.”

“Thanks man, that means a lot, but can you help us out?”

“Sure, under one condition.”

“Alright, what do you need, money?”

“No, I want to use some photographs on my website, to promote the business I am starting.”

“Wait, like you are just running a business where you officiate marriages?”

“Yeah, it works man, it just works.”

“Sure, but what makes our wedding special?”

“She has a tail, dude, a fucking tail.”

“Hey, be nice to my soon-to-be wife’s tail.”

Sean chuckled, “Yeah, of course man, but you get the point. I can even arrange a woman for the photographs, it won’t cost a lot.”

“Yes, that would be nice. Can we have a meeting, talk it over in person?”

“Sure, next week on Wednesday at 2 PM, how does that sound?”

“I think Lorraine can get some time off then.”

“Great, I will see you then. Bye Steve.”

“Bye Sean.” He hung up. I shrugged, I guess, that works. “Oh shit, my bacon is getting cold.”
