Chapter 8

Abby finally sat down against the wall, she had a lot of pain in her chest, she made me check if everything looked okay. I told her she is still pretty, it is just going to take a while to become scars, her first battle scars.

She said they were torture scars but what the hell, She does have a point, I just played with a leaf in my hand, thinking about a way to save us.

Abby looked at me, “Is that leaf going to save us?”

“I am still thinking Abby. I know a few hours have passed already, but it is not easy. There are things at work here, something is wrong with my memory. Or my past, or it could just be me, give me a few moments.”

Abby sighed, “I have already given you plenty of moments.”

Suddenly things turned to gray, it felt as if time stopped moving, A big hole appeared in the cell, more like a hole in reality itself. Abby is frozen in time, just like the Insectines that occasionally passed by the cell. The hole looked like some kind of portal, or a wormhole from a video game. A woman stepped through, she was wearing sweatpants, and a wide shirt.

She looked around, “Oh no, I have travelled too far back in time.”

I waved, “Hello?”

The woman looked around before walking over to me, black, long hair tied in a ponytail reveals a lean, warm face, darting pitch-black eyes, set tightly within her sockets, she has a small tail with a spade at the end. She even had small black wings, there were horns on her head, “Oh my god, you are a demon!”

The demon sighed, “Yes, I am a demon, and I have come here to help you.”

“Great, then please break the bars, so we can leave?”

The demon looked at the bars, “Not like that, you need to figure that out for yourself.”

“Great, then what are you doing here?”

She crossed her arms, “Look, you need to listen to me.”

I pointed at the pink hole.

The demon looked back, “Yes, that is where I came from, look Steve!”

“What, you know my name? What is yours?”

The demon seemed to be, very agitated, “It does not matter, I come from the future.”

“Oh, of course, you do, and what is the future like?”

The demon sighed, “It is horrible, you see, we all died.”

I scratched my head, “you are here.”

The demon turned around to look me dead in the eyes, “There is no way I can have a decent conversation with you, I meant to land only fifteen years back, not this much. Something must have gone wrong, but this is the best I am going to get.”

I put my hand on her shoulder and I felt an immense energy surge immediately touching my hand to see if I was a danger. As if there is a living entity inside this demon, She, it clearly is a she, I am sure of it.

She looked over her shoulder, “You can be glad I would rather not murder you, I could snap my fingers, and you would be dead, a lot of bad stuff is going to happen to you. I cannot tell you what, you will need to live that for yourself, however, there is a reason I came here.”

Slowly I took my hand away, hoping she was speaking the truth about not wanting to murder me, “Alright, I believe you, What is it that you need of me?”

She turned around while keeping an eye on the pink portal, “There is going to happen something, in the distant future, The very distant future, Like, it is going to take a while, But you will need to make a choice.”

I nodded, “A choice, what kind?”

The demon sighed, “I cannot tell you that.”

“But, how do I know if the moment is here, to make the choice?”

The demon hung her head, “You will know. The last time, you chose poorly, please choose better this time, not just for your sake, but for everyone.”

I let out a deep sigh, “What happens, if I choose poorly again?”

The demon grunted, but with more sorrow than I had expected, as if she lost someone she loved recently, “Then everyone I love and know will die a horrible death, and all existence will end. There will be nothing left to save, I am giving you a prophecy, you can either be our salvation, or our doom, depending on the choice you are going to make.”

I shook my head, “But, I like to kill people, I cannot be your salvation, And having a prophecy on my head that I might end existence, is not making me feel better.”

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

The demon smiled, “Then you better think about your actions carefully, I know you very well, and I know, this prophecy is not going to stop you from killing people. My time is running short, I need to return, I hope to return, to a different future. If it is the same, then I will know already what choice you made, Don’t disappoint me, St—”

I pointed at her, “You stopped when you said my name, why?”

She let out a grin and ran back through the portal.

I hung my head, “I don’t think I am going to get the answer to that.”

As the portal closed, color seemed to return to this cell.

Abby looked at me, “How are you suddenly standing?”

“Time froze.”

She shook her head, “What do you mean?”

“Like, time literally froze over, a demon visited us.”

Abby slowly got up, “Are you messing with me now?”

“No, but I cannot tell you what she said, It is not good to talk about those things, now, I think I might have a way out of here, but it will be a tough. I am going to use my rage, to make a connection with Funk, Then I can take over his actions and he can help us with getting out of here.”

Abby shook her head, “That sounds like a horrible plan.”

“Why? We can even make him pay for betraying us! Just let me think for a moment.”

I sat down and closed my eyes, thinking about what just happened.

What did just happen? A womanly demon from the future came to tell me, I should choose different in the future, leaving me no clue on how to make the right choice. Or what the choice is. Just that I might end all existence. Did she mean, I made a poor choice when I fought a bad guy? Or did I make a wrong choice and become the bad guy myself?

I chuckled in myself, that makes no sense. I am the good guy here, the hero. There is no way I am responsible for people that died, Alright, a few, but what is a few people compared to existence. And, why did she not give me more clues? When do I need to make this choice? There is a lot of middle ground here, Maybe I will think of another option, and something different happens. I know, existence might end, but trying to prevent it, will create a self-fulfilling prophecy. But not working to stop it would be stupid. Ugh, this is making my brain melt.

That woman, whoever she was, might have been more clear on this situation, As of now, I think it is best to just ignore her advice. It is not like the choice is coming tomorrow, she was talking about years. My rage, it feels like something that bubbles inside of me, If I can focus, then I might be able to use it to control Funk.

Abby put her hand on my shoulder. “Are you done thinking yet? What exactly happened?”

I looked up at Abby, “Nothing important, not for you. I cannot talk to you about it. You just need to trust me that I will make the right decision.”

Abby shook her head, “I have no clue what that means, but if you are talking about Funk, I understand the plan, I just don’t agree.”

“Look, Abby, we are going to die, if we will go on this journey together, we need to do things, that are not very heroic, but we are the heroes. I am sure of that. If you are not in for the killing, then let me do that.”

Abby sighed, “I understand you will have to kill in this world; however, I am not participating. You can kill, if you feel the need to, or if you think it will help to stop this purple death.”

Abby stared at me with an intense gaze, “Do you want to kill people because you like it?”

I crossed my arms, “Do you want me to lie?”

“No.”

“Then, I like to kill, It makes me feel good, I am sorry if that is not what you wanted to hear.”

Abby sighed, “It is alright, we are in a world where you can kill now, thank you for being honest with me.”

Abby hung her head and just accepted the reality, “Now go on, use your rage to possess Funk and if you feel the urge to make him pay, go ahead. Just make sure he comes to save us.”

I nodded, “Thank you, Abby.”

I focused on my rage, and on Funk. It did not work.

“I am sorry, Abby, I cannot seem to get this to work.”

Abby sat down next to me, “Keep focusing.”

I inhaled deeply, “Here goes nothing.”

Abby took my hand, “I am here to help you, even if I do not agree with your methods, I am trying to understand you, you are a complicated man, after all.”

I smiled at her, “Thanks, Abby, that means a lot to me, we should keep trying then.”
