SR Chapter 69: Eighth

After Elijah returned to the village with the others, dinner was ready, and everyone had been waiting for more than ten minutes. Of course, Jenny wasn’t focused on eating dinner. She immediately began treating the warriors’ wounds.

Jenny used bandages and other healing materials she created, to tend to their wounds. Once she reached the limit of what her items could achieve, Jenny planned to use Minor Healing Stream and she wanted Elijah to help her out. Elijah refused.

Naturally, Jenny was shocked by Elijah’s refusal. However, although she was a bit reluctant, she agreed after she heard his explanation. Elijah told her that he needed to conserve his energy for cultivation later and she should do the same.

The warriors were not about to die, so they weren’t in need of immediate healing. Plus, after she improved her cultivation, Jenny would recover her energy and would be able to heal more people. The warriors agreed and didn’t want Jenny to sacrifice her improvement in cultivation, so the remaining healing was postponed until later.

Once dinner was over, everyone went to their homes or an area they felt comfortable in to cultivate. Elijah went to his home, the Chief’s Hut to cultivate as well. There, Elijah patiently waited for twilight to arrive, so he could make use of the benefits his territory provided.

Item: Chief’s Hut

Tier: 0

Description: A unique structure that serves as a chief’s home and improves their connection to their territory. As long as the upkeep is paid, the chief’s recovery speed, the absorption of astral energy, and the practice of cultivation techniques will be improved by 100% while they are inside the Chief’s Hut.

You are now in a special environment. The practice of all cultivation techniques is now 50% more effective.

Immediately, Elijah was on his feet after he saw the notification about the changes to the environment. Elijah found the practice of his cultivation technique enjoyable, so he was always eager to start cultivation. At this point, Elijah was similar to a gym bro that was obsessed with working out and going to the gym. However, he replaced exercise with cultivation. Therefore, it would be accurate to call him a cultivation bro.

“As the supreme ruler I control the power of the heavens. The strength of the heavens is my strength.”

Raising his right hand to the air Elijah began to chant the words for his cultivation technique as he focused on resonating with the sky above him. Although his hand was aiming at the ceiling of his home the Chief’s Hut actually made it easier for him to connect with the sky above his territory. Astral energy surged into the room that Elijah was in and gathered between his right hand and the ceiling.

“As the supreme ruler I control the support of the earth. The energy of the earth is my energy.”

Directing his left hand to the ground, Elijah began to connect with the ground beneath him. He resonated with the Supreme Twilight astral vein beneath the village and felt astral energy surging toward him. Instantly, the room was filled with astral energy, but the majority of it was gathered around his two hands.

“With the power of the heavens and the support of the earth I will be the supreme ruler of the world.”

Crossing his arms, the astral energy in the room became chaotic as Elijah continued the chant for his cultivation technique. Once he finished speaking, he immediately began to move. Elijah punched, kicked, crouched, turned, twisted and rolled as he moved around the room.

Moving his body into various positions, allowed Elijah to temper both his body and mind. Astral energy entered Elijah’s blood and then he used his blood to guide the astral energy to temper his senses. Although Elijah’s cultivation consumed a lot of astral energy, the total amount of astral energy in the room did not decrease. Instead, it continued to increase and soon Elijah’s body was obscured by a thick grey mist.

You have received -6 damage.

You have received -3 damage.

You have received -4 damage.

As Elijah tempered his senses he would occasionally be injured. The injuries caused Elijah pain, but he didn’t let it interfere with his movements. The pain was sharp, so Elijah was able to endure the brief moment of pain with his current pain tolerance.

In total, one cultivation session would cause Elijah between thirty and forty points of damage. However, Elijah wasn’t unhappy with the amount of damage he was receiving. Before Elijah was receiving more than sixty points of damage when he cultivated, but that number decreased after Elijah made changes to his cultivation technique.

Usually, if a cultivator abruptly made changes or adjustments to any cultivation technique it would result in serious negative consequences. Even the most brilliant mortal minds would take months of study, research, and experimentation before they would continue to practice the cultivation. Elijah would love to say he carefully researched and studied the changes he would make, but sadly he did not.

The last time Elijah cultivated he felt his instincts guiding him, no, dragging him toward making changes to his cultivation technique. Elijah was somewhat aware of the dangers that came with adjusting cultivation technique, so he planned to take thing slow. However, his instincts were very forceful and demanding. Change it, change it, change it. So, he did.

Elijah didn’t make any changes to the physical movements or the breathing method in his cultivation technique. However, there was a slight change to the mantra Elijah chanted compared to the words he chanted when he first practiced his cultivation technique. As a result, Elijah reduced the amount of damage he received and increased his proficiency with his cultivation technique.

“I am the supreme!”

When Elijah finished the movements for his cultivation technique, he said the final words of the mantra with one hand pointed at the sky and another pointed at the ground. The astral energy in the room began to pour into Elijah’s body, but he didn’t absorb all of it. The majority of the astral energy was sent to the village core beneath his feet.

Standing in front of the grey cushion covered in golden blue dots, Elijah’s posture was rigid as he endured the torrent of energy flowing through him. Once the astral energy finished passing through him, he let out a deep breath. Next, he prepared to sit on the Chief’s Cushion and meditate on the inadequacies in how he performed the Supreme Ruler cultivation technique.

However, before he could do that, Elijah was overwhelmed with a feeling of euphoria. His physique thrummed with energy as it went through an upgrade. After a minute passed, the energy in Elijah’s body calmed down and he noticed he had a notification waiting for him.

Happy about the improvement in his cultivation technique, Elijah forgot about meditation and immediately started another round of cultivation. Every time Elijah’s cultivation technique improved, the euphoria he felt during cultivation improved as well. After two minutes passed, Elijah finished his second cultivation session and he only received twenty points of damage.

When Elijah saw the damage he received decrease, he excitedly started another round of cultivation. The third, the fourth and the fifth cultivation session quickly passed. With each cultivation session the damage Elijah received decreased. Eventually after several cultivation sessions passed, Elijah reached the next level.

Congratulations! You have reached level 38 (Middle Sense Tempering). +1 to all stats, +4 free stat points

Immediately, Elijah’s body that was drained from cultivation was refreshed and strengthened. Satisfied with his growth, Elijah hesitated for a moment before he decided to drain most of his energy again and then he would reflect on his cultivation. This time all of the astral energy he gathered would be sent to the village core. Elijah continued to perform his cultivation technique until his stamina and mental energy were below forty percent.

Sitting on his cushion, Elijah activated his Supreme Meditation skill and began his reflection. Elijah reflected on his movements, how he breathed and how well he controlled his energy and the astral energy around him. There were many details about his cultivation that Elijah reviewed, but there was one detail that took up more time than others.

“Should I speed through the next few levels and finish up tempering my senses?” Elijah asked himself.

What sparked this question was the significant decrease in damage Elijah received during cultivation. He only received six points of damage in his most recent cultivation session and he only experienced aa tingling sensation when he cultivated instead of the sharp pain from before. Also, none of Elijah’s senses were slightly damaged, so he was able to use them without any problems. The source of all these improvements was the improvement of Elijah’s cultivation technique.

Understanding this fact, Elijah realized he didn’t have to worry about perfecting his cultivation in the game. What would truly determine how well he cultivated in the real world was the stage of his cultivation technique. Although there were benefits to becoming more familiar with the different cultivation stages in the game, he didn’t have to pursue perfection.

After thinking it over, Elijah decided to continue slowly increasing his cultivation. His cultivation technique hadn’t reached the ninth stage yet and he would be forcing himself to endure more pain than necessary if he rushed things now. Plus, he was currently doing well with Kento’s clan and there were no enemies about to attack, so he didn’t need to increase his cultivation level at the moment, right?

With his cultivation matters settled, Elijah steered his mind toward another problem. It was important for a ruler to connect with his people and there were two groups of people that he hadn’t paid much attention to recently. One group was the children, and the other group was the goblins.
