Can a mortal go against the heavens? No, they cannot. If a mortal tried to stand in the path of the heavens, the heavens would indifferently trample over them as it continued marching on. While a mortal could not stop the heavens, the same did not hold true for a supreme.
Elijah’s final mental roar managed to rouse the final traces of his will. His roar only managed to push back the darkness threatening to consume his consciousness for an instant, but an instant was all Elijah needed. In that instant Elijah’s Supreme Will talent activated.
Normally, when Elijah’s Supreme Will talent was activated, it was done under two conditions. The first was to defend his mind when he was mentally attacked or challenged by external influences. The second was when he wanted to threaten or suppress other people.
Right now, when Elijah activated his Supreme Will, he did so under both conditions. The obvious questions to ask were who was attacking Elijah and who was Elijah trying to suppress. Naturally, it was the heavens themselves.
What else could it be? What other explanation was there for a normal relaxed spar to lead to Elijah being on deaths door? Elijah was confident that the heavens themselves were trying to kill him. Yes, it was the heavens that sent the darkness that was about to drown his consciousness. Well, if the heavens thought this supreme would go quietly, then they were one hundred percent wrong.
Using his Supreme Will, Elijah pushed back the darkness that was threatening his consciousness. Elijah could feel his consciousness become brighter as the darkness was pushed back bit by bit. Along with the brightening of his consciousness came clarity and realization.
Elijah was not fighting against the heavens. It was absurd for a person to think that the entire world was against them and in his moment of desperation, Elijah became capable of having this absurd thought. However, it was this absurd thought that allowed Elijah to activate his Supreme Will talent. Also, it gave him the opportunity to gain a better understanding of his talent and his willpower.
What was willpower? It was obvious that willpower could be used to defend a person’s mind. Also, Elijah found a way to use his willpower to attack others. However, neither of these two things represented the core of what willpower was.
The willpower or will of an individual was a source of energy. To be exact it was the true source of their mental energy. At least that was the conclusion Elijah came to after he activated his Supreme Will talent.
Once Elijah realized the darkness attacking his consciousness wasn’t caused by the heavens, he realized the darkness was caused by his weakening consciousness. Therefore, the darkness being pushed back, was caused by his consciousness regaining strength. After using his Supreme Will talent, Elijah’s consciousness gained the energy it desperately needed, becoming brighter and stronger.
However, that also didn’t make sense. If the strength of Elijah’s consciousness was based on the amount of mental energy he had, then why did he reach a point where he was about to lose consciousness. After all, Elijah’s mental energy naturally recovered without him doing anything.
As Elijah’s consciousness continued to regain its strength, he became lost in thought. Willpower, mental energy, and consciousness. They were all tied together, but Elijah couldn’t figure it out.
Elijah agonized over the issue for an unknown amount of time without the slightest hint about what the answer could be. But suddenly, everything clicked. The answer to the issue could only be one thing. It was the soul.
In an instant, Elijah was enlightened. Elijah’s enlightenment started with understanding that his soul was the source of everything. The energy needed for his consciousness to operate came from his soul. A strong body needed a strong mind, and a strong mind needed a strong soul. Elijah’s willpower was merely the connection or ability that allowed him to draw forth power from his soul.
At least, this was the conclusion Elijah came to through his enlightenment. Elijah wasn’t absolutely sure, but he could faintly sense a steady stream of energy entering his body and mind from…somewhere within himself. Although Elijah was lacking in confidence, it didn’t matter, since there was a way for him to know for sure if he was right or wrong.

One moment of enlightenment was all it took for Elijah to go from bloody and exhausted to healthy and energized. Elijah was ecstatic. He allowed himself to be immersed in the feeling of breaking through his limits and cheating death.
However, Elijah didn’t allow himself to be immersed in his positive emotions for too long. Five seconds later, Elijah calmed down and brought himself back to reality. When he did so, Elijah was suddenly recalling everything he experienced in his fight with Elder Jeb, and he asked himself one important question.
“What the fuck is wrong with me?” Elijah thought to himself. Instantly, a few drops of sweat appeared on Elijah’s brow.
From the very first time Elijah entered Fallen Heaven, he treated it as a place to prepare himself for cultivation in the real world. He put himself in the shoes of a cultivator and thought about how he could apply what he did in Fallen heaven to the real world. If Elijah took his behavior from the recent spar and applied it to the real world, it was very likely that he would end up dead.
With that thought, fear and panic surged through Elijah’s mind. Although Elijah was scared by the very real possibility of dying in battle, what truly terrified him was how he almost completely lost control of himself. After the spar became more intense, it was like he turned into a different person.

Elijah cringed when he remembered he repeatedly called himself the supreme. Where the hell did all his arrogance come from? What possessed him to have such absurd thoughts? Elijah said a silent prayer, thankful that he didn’t say any of his absurd thoughts out loud.
Of course, there was another way to look at the situation. It was possible that Elijah was overreacting. After all he didn’t die, and the spar was very enjoyable. In fact, it might be a good idea for Elijah to experience a few more dangerous battles. If he did, he could gain a few more talents and levels. Also, he could probably gain a title as-
“No, no, no.” Elijah thought to himself. He furiously and ruthlessly stomped out the voice that was encouraging him to enter more life-threatening situations.
“I read enough cultivation stories to know where that path leads me.” Elijah thought to himself. “Soon I’ll turn into an extremely emotional, muscle brained idiot, that thinks the best way to solve his problems is with violence, violence and more violence.”
At that moment, Elijah made the decision to avoid conflict as much as possible. The way Elijah saw it, he had two paths in front of him. The path of a fierce tiger and the path of a cowardly turtle.
Naturally, Elijah chose the path of the cowardly turtle. No, cowardly was the wrong word. If it was up to Elijah, he would call the turtle a wise and majestic creature. Yes, those were the right words.
Of course, Elijah knew that he was overreacting to the situation, but how could he not. He almost died. Not from some boss fight against an all-powerful dragon, but from a simple spar with one of his own followers.
It’s true what they say. An individual can survive a calamity sent from the heavens, but it was impossible to survive a calamity of one’s own making. Then again, didn’t Elijah managed to survive in the end. That must mean he is a person with a great destiny. Someone fated to become a powerful-
“No! Stop it, stop it.” Elijah rebuked the arrogant voice that was within himself for trying to rise and take control. It seemed like no matter how much effort he put in to crushing that arrogant voice, it refused to be completely destroyed. That voice was the most vicious sickness known to man and Elijah was unable to cure himself regardless of how many medicines he used. The only thing he could do was treat the symptoms and hope for the best.
“Eli, are you okay?” Elder Jeb asked.
Directing his gaze toward Elder Jeb, Elijah could see a great deal of worry and concern on his face. Elijah realized he had been standing in place for a decent amount of time. He didn’t know how long exactly, but judging by Elder Jeb’s expression, it was probably longer than ten minutes.
“I’m alright,” Elijah replied. “There’s no need to worry.”
“That’s good,” Elder Jeb replied with a look of relief. “When you suddenly became quiet, I thought you gained some inspiration from our battle, and I decided not to disturb you. However, I felt the need to speak up when I saw the various changes in your expression. Are you sure you’re alright? Did you encounter any problems with your cultivation?”
“I was dying, and you just stood there and watched.” Elijah fiercely rebuked Elder Jeb in his mind. However, he knew he had no right to blame him, so he didn’t dare say anything out loud.
Elijah twisted his mouth into what he hoped was a smile before he replied to Elder Jeb “You don’t have to worry. There aren’t any problems with my cultivation. In fact, I managed to obtain a nice harvest.”
“Are you sure?” Elder Jeb wore an expression that showed he wasn’t completely convinced. “There’s nothing wrong with asking for help if you’re having some difficulties.”
Seeing that Elder Jeb wouldn’t easily drop the issue, Elijah quickly thought of an explanation that would satisfy him. “I managed to obtain some enlightenment during our battle, but I couldn’t fully understand it no matter how hard I tried, Eventually I decided to give up.”
“I understand.” Elder Jeb nodded his head in understanding. “I also had some gains from our spar. When it comes to matters of enlightenment, it isn’t something that can be forced. The best thing you can do is meditate on our spar, continuously review what you did right and wrong, and patiently wait for enlightenment to come.”
Elijah agreed with what Elder Jeb said. As a matter of fact, Elijah had already planned to do exactly what he suggested. Although Elijah gained some enlightenment on willpower from surviving his near-death experience, that had nothing to do with the actual spar itself. Elijah was confident that he would be able to gain mastery of at least two other stats after he finished meditating on the spar.
“Before you go looking for enlightenment, I would appreciate it if you helped me heal. I sent Karen to get the healer because I didn’t think you had the energy to use your skill. Now that you recovered I-.”
“No need to say anything else. Of course, I’ll help you.”
“Then let this old man thank you for relieving some of his pain.”
Elder Jeb took a seat on the ground and Elijah stood in front of him. After a careful look and asking Elder Jeb a few questions, Elijah began to heal the most heavily damage areas on Elder Jeb’s body. The first place he started with was Elder Jeb’s back.
The wound on Elder Jeb’s back could be considered a major wound, and Elijah wouldn’t be able to easily heal it with his Heal Minor Wounds skill. However, that was not Elijah’s goal. He only wanted to stop the bleeding and Elder Jeb would rely on his body’s natural healing ability to do the rest.
Elijah needed to use his Heal Minor Wounds skill seven times before he was able to stop the bleeding of Elder Jeb’s wound on his back. It was only now that Elijah realized that Elder Jeb was in as much danger as he recently was. However, Elder Jeb never revealed the slightest hint of worry.
A quick look at Elder Jeb’s status showed his health was slightly below forty and this was after Elijah used his skill. If Elder Jeb hadn’t said anything it was likely that he would have passed away with Elijah standing by his side unaware. Shaking his head, Elijah pushed the matter to the side and focused on healing the rest of Elder Jeb’s wounds.
Normally, Elijah would move to the wounded area place his hands on it and use his skills. This time Elijah left his hand on the wound on Elder Jeb’s back and tried to heal the other wounds he had from there. Elijah decided to do this for two reasons.
The main reason was to gain mastery over his perception stat. As he healed Elder Jeb, Elijah felt his perception become more active as he focused on Elder Jeb’s wounds. The more active his perception became, the better he was able to sense Elder Jeb’s other wounds. Also, Elijah’s efforts at stopping Elder Jeb’s bleeding improved with each use of his skill.
The other reason was that the stage of Elijah’s Heal Minor Wounds skill increased. It happened after Elijah healed Elder Jeb for the sixth time. The skill now restored ten health points and the number of health points the skill restored was no longer affected by the size of the wound.
Congratulations! Your Heal Minor Wounds skill has reached the next stage.
Skill: Heal Minor Wounds
Tier: 0
Stage: Early
Effect: Focusing mental energy onto a minor wound and restore ten health points. Can aid in the healing of larger wounds.
Cost: 10 mental energy
Elijah’s attempt at healing Elder Jeb’s other wounds through the wound on his back was a success. Elijah had to strain his senses to send the energy from his skill towards distant wounds. Although it was difficult, Elijah felt like the effort brought him closer to gaining an understanding of the perception stat. Sadly, enlightenment was always slightly beyond his grasp.
“That’s enough,” Elder Jeb said. “You’ve already done enough to help me heal. I don’t want you to use more energy than you have to.”
“No problem,” Elijah replied. He actually wanted to continue healing Elder Jeb to improve his chances of grasping the perception stat. However, Elijah didn’t force it since he had other methods that he could use. “Since I’m the one who asked you to spar and gave you those wounds, it only makes sense that I heal you to the best of my ability.”
“Hahaha, there’s no need to say that.” Elder Jeb replied with a smile on his face. “I didn’t expect much from this spar, but you turned out to be a great sparring partner. I managed to begin grasping sword qi. After a short period of meditation, I’m sure I will fully grasp the initial level of sword qi and step into the first tier of the sword specialty. I don’t think I would have been able to achieve this without your help.” Elder Jeb rose to his feet and bowed. “You have my deepest gratitude.”
