SR Chapter 11: Dinner and Cultivation

SR Chapter 11: Dinner and Cultivation

“Welcome everyone,” Elder Jeb announced.

All of the villagers gathered in the communal area to eat dinner. Everyone was seated at one of the tables with a plate of food in front of them. Elder Jeb and Elijah were the only two people standing up. They stood on the elevated seating area for the leaders and addressed the villagers.

Normally, the villagers gathered in the communal area once every seven days. The villagers did this to maintain unity and a sense of community. The current gathering was outside of the normal, but none of the villagers were surprised by it.

“All of you are already aware our village has a new chief. I know many of you are concerned about the sudden change in leadership and being led by an outsider. That’s why we have gathered you all here this evening. I wanted to explain why I gave Eli the position of chief and give you all a chance to interact with him.”

Elder Jeb began telling the villagers about how people from other worlds had arrived and were destined to bring great changes. All of the leaders decided it would be best to find one of the people coming from another world and ask them to support our village. The person they found was Elijah.

“Eli may be young, but we all decided that he has the qualifications necessary for being a chief. Also, he gave us excellent advice on how to deal with the threat facing our village. Yes, I said our village is facing a threat.”

Immediately, the silence was broken. Villagers gasped in surprise and immediately began to question Elder Jeb after he told them about the incoming threat. Elder Jeb let the crowd speak for a while before he held up a hand for silence.

“We already announced that we found traces of goblins, but they were not an immediate threat to us. Now, things have changed. Earlier, our warriors fought against goblins to free a few people they captured. The location where this happened should be less than two days away from our village. The goblins are no longer a distant threat, but our situation is not hopeless.”

From there, Elder Jeb began to explain the plans they came up with. All of the villagers began to calm down when they listened to logical and achievable strategies, they could use to face the goblins. They also began to give Elijah looks of admiration when they found out about the part, he played in it.

Elijah was happy that he was now a proper chief. Now, his actions in the village would let him gain levels in his chief job and become stronger. Also, he was happy about his new skill. It wasn’t the flashiest skill, but it would definitely benefit him in the distant and near future.

“Now, I will let Eli come forward and say a few words.”

Elijah gave Elder Jeb a nod before he stepped forward to speak. “I know many of you have doubts about me and I don’t think I can ease those doubts by standing up here and saying a few words. So, I won’t say anything right now. Instead, I’ll let all of you start eating and I will walk around to speak with you. I will do my best to answer any question you have and tell you a little bit more about myself.”

The villagers approved of Elijah’s words and immediately began to dig into their meals. Eli was a man of his word and began walking around after people had a few moments to enjoy their meal. Elijah walked amongst the villagers, introducing himself to them, and answering the questions they asked. He did this for the adults and the children.

Yes, the children were in the communal area when Elder Jeb brought up the goblin threat. The villagers were protective of their children, but they didn’t’ coddle them. They wanted their children to be aware of the dangers around them, so they would avoid making dumb decisions. Such as, leaving the village without any adult supervision.

Once Elijah felt he spent enough time speaking to the villagers, he went to sit with the other leaders and began eating his food. He did his best to eat quickly. Dusk was approaching and Elijah would be provided with another opportunity to cultivate under the broken crystal sphere.

When Elder Jeb saw Elijah was done eating, he suggested that everyone head to the training area. This time the parents and other adults would be cultivating while the children watched from the side. All of the adults had excited looks on their faces, as they began moving toward the training area. Everyone heard about the benefits Elijah brought the children and many of the adults were hoping to receive similar benefits.

After Elijah and everyone else arrived at the training area they all began making their preparations. Only half of the adults got into position. The adults undergoing cultivation made sure there was space for Elijah near the front. There were a lot more adults than children, so each individual adult would obtain less astral energy if all of them went together.

The answer was to split the adults into groups. This worked out well because the cultivation technique the villagers used had a long cooldown. Each group of adults had an opportunity to absorb astral energy under the broken crystal without interfering with each other’s cultivation.

You are in a unique area. Practicing cultivation techniques in this area will be 100% more effective.

Elijah completed two cultivation session, both with a ninety percent proficiency before the light disappeared. As a result, he gained another level and improved his cultivation technique by one stage. The increase in stage gave Elijah a slight increase to the amount of astral energy he could absorb and provided him with a new skill.

Once the light faded everyone began to go their separate ways. However, before everyone left, they made sure to thank Elijah. Once again Elijah drew in a large amount of astral energy which benefitted the people around him. Most people didn’t gain a level, but they gained a lot more energy than they normally would, cultivating on their own.

Increased cultivation speed was something everyone would be excited about. Elijah didn’t know why his cultivation technique drew in so much energy, but he was happy that it helped him win over the villagers. After everyone was done thanking him Elijah planned to head back to Johnathan’s home and log out from the game.

Before Elijah could leave, Elder Jeb stopped him. He wanted to show Elijah the different task and responsibilities the villagers had at night. He told Elijah the villagers would nurture special plants that only grew at night. These plants were beneficial for cultivation, provided sustenance and could heal some wounds.

Another responsibility villagers had were dealing with pesky animals that left the forest. These animals were weak and didn’t pose much threat to the villagers. The warriors would go into the forest at night to hunt certain animal and look for certain herbs, but the distance they traveled was much less compared to the distance they traveled in the day.

Elijah was interested in anything related to the operations of the village, so he immediately agreed. Elijah thought they would begin right away, but Elder Jeb said there was something they needed to do first. They needed to speak to the people the warriors freed from the goblins.

The leaders kept the people freed from the goblins in isolation after they questioned them about their origins. They decided it would be best for Elijah and Elder Jeb to talk to them first before they let them join the village. Elijah agreed and followed Elder Jeb. This would be his first time interacting with other players in Fallen Heaven.
