SR Chapter 32: More Improvements, More Training

Congratulations! You have Improved your understanding of perception. You have gained the Master of Perception talent.

Talent: Master of Perception

Tier: 0

Description: You can utilize the perception stat to a greater extent than the average person. 10% increase to perception.

Gaining a point in any stat improves an individual’s ability to use the stat and their understanding of the stat. This is what happened to Elijah when he leveled up his specialty and job. Elijah’s overall perception increased by at least three points and that gave him the final bit of understanding he needed to obtain the Master of Perception talent.

Normally gaining three stat points doesn’t grant enough understanding to gain mastery of a specific stat. Gaining ten stat points aren’t enough either to guarantee mastery of a specific stat. According to Elijah’s future self, the best way to guarantee the mastery of a specific stat was by assigning twenty stat points to a stat.

Of course, there were exceptions to this rule. If someone was already in a state where they were close to gaining mastery over a stat, it was possible to complete the final step by gaining one stat point. A perfect example is what Elijah recently experienced with the perception stat.

What is perception? Perception is a stat that determines an individual’s ability to sense the world around them. Building on this information, Elijah obtained a unique understanding or insight of the perception stat and obtained the mastery talent.

Perception determined the quality of information that entered Elijah’s mind. This was the core of the understanding Elijah obtained that allowed him to gain a new talent. Although Elijah’s insight into the perception stat could be explained in one sentence, that one sentence did not properly show all the mysteries Elijah discovered.

The core of Elijah’s insight into the perception stat was gained during his spar with Elder Jeb. During the spar, Elijah was able to obtain more information than the average fighter would be able to. Elijah was able to easily see through Elder Jeb’s attacks, strategies and intentions. Using his Supreme Eyes, Elijah was able to sense things he normally wouldn’t be able perceive.

Of course, in a battle, perception alone was useless. If Elijah lacked the ability to understand his opponent’s attacks and come up with a method to defend against them, he could only helplessly observe the fist, swords and spears that would be coming his way. In his spar with Elder Jeb Elijah had to rely on his intelligence and wisdom as well.

Seated on the ground Elijah allowed himself to indulge in the feeling of accomplishment. Originally, Elijah planned to gain mastery over the endurance and intelligence stats first with his saved free points. Instead, he managed to gain mastery over his willpower and perception stat first and he didn’t have to use a single free stat point. Elijah was extremely satisfied with the unexpected good fortune that came his way.

Deciding to ride the wave of good fortune, Elijah used his Supreme Meditation skill. He planned to gain mastery over his intelligence and wisdom stats. However, before he did so there was an important question he had to answer. Should he attempt to gain insights into his stats using the twenty stat point recommended by his future self or should he use less and hope the knowledge he accumulated during his spar would make up the difference?

After a brief period of hesitation, Elijah decided to use the full twenty stat points. The experience of having his arrogance take control was still fresh in his mind and Elijah was worried about making any risky decisions. Since his future self said he should use twenty stat points, then that’s exactly what he would do.

What is intelligence? Intelligence is an individual’s ability to take in, understand and store information. During his spar with Elder Jeb, Elijah was taking in a large amount of information every time Elder Jeb moved.

The insight Elijah obtained from the spar was that he needed a strong mind. It was simple, but with the help of twenty stat points Elijah had no problem gaining the mastery talent.

Congratulations! You have improved your understanding of intelligence. You have gained the Master of Intelligence talent.

Talent: Master of Intelligence

Tier: 0

Description: You can utilize the intelligence stat to a greater extent than the average person. 10% increase to intelligence.

Elijah’s understanding of intelligence wasn’t absolute. Other people may have understood that intelligence was about having a calculative mind or an extremely quick thought process. However, each person's understanding was based on their own experiences and was usually the most suitable for them.

Using another twenty free stat points, Elijah had no problem with gaining the mastery talent for wisdom. Wisdom was the stat that allowed Elijah to utilize the information his perception and intelligence helped him obtain. Elijah relied on his wisdom to break free of the strategies that Elder Jeb used on him and to figure out ways to create his own.

The core insight Elijah obtained was that wisdom determined how well he could control, organize and utilize the information stored in his mind.

Congratulation! You can utilize the wisdom stat to a greater extent than the average person. You have gained the Master of Wisdom talent.

Satisfied with his gains, Elijah exited meditation, stood and stretched. He obtained several talents and Elijah could see that he had a few more notifications waiting for him. However, before he could look at them, someone else demanded his attention.

“Your awake! That’s good. Please stand still and let me look over your wounds.”

Running toward Elijah was a woman with brown skin and long dark hair. She looked like she was around the same age as Elijah, and she was shorter than him. She wore a yellow dress and two belts with several pouches on them. One belt was wrapped diagonally across her chest and the other was on her waist. Her name was Jenny, and she was currently the only healer in the village.

“I tried to tell her you were fine, but she found the cuts and blood on your body extremely worrying.” Elder Jeb informed Elijah with a helpless expression on his face.

“I can feel that the Chief is full of energy.” Jenny didn’t pause her movements as she responded to Elder Jeb with a serious expression on her face. “However, I need to make sure his wounds healed properly and there are no hidden injuries.”

“The Chief made a breakthrough and completely recovered.”

“An increase in cultivation doesn’t guarantee the recovery of all wounds.”

“She’s right,” Elijah spoke up in support of Jenny. “However, Elder Jeb is right as well. I’m fine and there’s no need for you to worry about me.”

Jenny ignored Elijah and continued her inspection. Elijah wasn’t upset that she ignored him. Instead, he was amused by her actions because he knew how she would behave once her inspection was complete.

“Looks like everything is okay,” Jenny stated after letting out a sigh of relief.

“Thank you for your help,” Elijah told her after he made eye contact.

“Th-there’s no need to thank me. I- I was just doing what I should.” Elijah chuckled as he looked at Jenny’s shy expression.

“Since everything is fine then we should get going,” Elder Jeb said. “Karen came by to tell us it was time to eat. Were already late so let’s hurry up so our food doesn’t get any colder.”

Elijah agreed and followed Elder Jeb with Jenny. Elijah planned to go over the remaining notification while he ate some food. Once he was done, he would gather the warriors to engage in some sparring.

Looking at his skills Elijah felt both satisfied and annoyed. He was satisfied because he improved several skills and all of them could help him in the upcoming fight with the goblins. However, Elijah was annoyed because he felt like his Heal Minor Wounds skill improved very slowly compared to the three skills, he recently improved.

When Elijah was hunting goblins, he often used his Heal Minor Wounds skill to help the warriors with him to recover. He was confident that he used the Heal Minor Wounds skill at least five times more than any other active skill. Sadly, it didn’t matter how annoyed Elijah was. The reality was that his Heal Minor Wounds skill would be harder to improve than other skills.

After Elijah finished eating, he headed outside the village wall with Jenny. Jenny came along to help Elijah with the injuries the warriors would get during training and to observe Elijah’s healing skill. Elijah and the other leaders planned for the war with the goblins to be fought outside of the village. Therefore, it made sense to train in the conditions they would be fighting in.

Once they left the village walls, Elijah could see the construction of various traps and defenses. He planned to help with the construction after he finished training with the warriors. Although Elijah wasn’t skilled in making traps, he could still help out since the construction required more physical labor than it did skilled labor.

Elijah was more than happy to help with the construction. Doing so provided him with experience toward his chief job and ruler specialty. Also, Elijah obtained the If I Can Do It, So Can You quest.

“Greetings Chief,” All of the warriors greeted Elijah when they saw him approach.

“At ease soldiers,” Elijah replied with a smile on his face. “Originally, the main reason I gathered you all here was to help me train my skills and conduct some light sparring. However, I recently gained some enlightenment after my spar with Elder Jeb. I think I can help you all make improvements in your fighting abilities and gain several levels in your job.”

“You can help us become better hunters?” A warrior doubtfully asked.

“No, I was talking about your warrior job. Although all of you are called the village warriors, what you rely on and focus on improving the most is your hunting abilities. However, fighting as a hunter and fighting as a warrior are two different things. Although we have some plans in place, it's very likely that battle against the goblins will end in a head on clash. That’s why you all need more experience fighting enemies in a head on clash.”

“We already have experience with fighting the goblins,” A warrior said. “I’m not trying to go against you Chief, but I really think our fighting ability isn’t that bad.”

“The goblins we fought are most likely the runts of the litter. Let me ask you all a question. How many of you have fought Elder Jeb?”

Elijah already knew the answer to the question and smiled when he saw several embarrassed expressions. He had heard that when some of the warriors before him started to become arrogant Elder Jeb invited them all to spar. After that spar they all developed a healthy fear of Elder Jeb and became humble. Also, that was the first and last time they sparred with Elder Jeb.

“Although the goblins won’t be at Elder Jeb’s level, I’m sure there will be plenty of goblins that are more skilled than the goblins we recently fought. The training I have planned should make you better prepared for any skilled enemies you might face.”

Elijah planned to have four people spar at a time. One defending and the others attacking. He would buff the attackers with his Ruler’s Strength skill and the defender with his Ruler’s Defense skill.

The attackers could attack however they wanted, but the defender would follow Elijah’s instructions. Elijah would use his Supreme Eyes to see through their attacks and movements and guide the defender to victory while he used his Supreme Speech skill. If they paid attention both the attackers and defender could learn a lot from the spar.

Of course, this type of sparring had a high chance to cause fatal injuries, but Elijah wasn’t worried. If he saw something dangerous about to happen, he would use his Supreme Shout skill to stop everyone. Thinking about all of the skills he was about to improve; Elijah couldn’t stop himself from getting excited.

“Now let’s get started!”
