SR Chapter 23: Cultivation

Opening his eyes, Elijah took off his gaming helmet and sat up on his bead. Once again, Elijah’s body felt a difference in the state of his body and mind from his time spent in Fallen Heaven. However, this time, his body and mind didn’t feel weak and exhausted. Instead, he felt powerful and energized.

The next thing Elijah did was take a slow deep breath. Air rushed through his nostrils and filled his lungs. He held the breath for a moment before he let it out through his mouth. Elijah repeated these actions three more times before he let his breathing return to normal.

How could breathing feel so good? After Elijah’s breathing returned to normal, he asked himself this question. Each breath he took felt better than the last. It was as if Elijah had previously been dead, and he was now taking his first few breaths. The sensations he was currently feeling were similar to the sensations he felt the first time he entered Fallen Heaven.

Figuring out the source of the changes to his body and mind wasn’t difficult. The changes came from Elijah reaching the fourth stage of his cultivation technique in Fallen Heaven. Going from the third stage to the fourth stage was an important milestone in the Supreme Ruler cultivation technique and cultivating in Fallen Heaven allowed Elijah to strengthen himself in real life.

Primarily, cultivating in Fallen Heaven strengthened Elijah’s mind. There were some benefits to his body, but they weren’t as great as the benefits to his mind. With a stronger mind, Elijah’s senses and thinking ability improved. Also, he gained better control of his body and was able to unleash more of the power that was hidden within it.

Full of excitement Elijah stood up and threw a few punches at the air. He heard the air whistle and he felt it stir around his fist when he punched. Elijah’s eyes lit up in excitement as he started to experience the changes his body went through.

When someone gets a gun, they naturally feel the urge to fire it. When someone gets a sword, they naturally feel the urge to swing it around and cut things. Now that Elijah’s body had went through a small transformation, it was natural he felt the need to test it out. Without hesitation Elijah left his room and headed toward his back yard.

Running was the first thing Elijah did after he arrived at his back yard. He ran from his house to the line of trees in the distance and back without breaking a sweat. The distance between his house and the trees were about the length of a city block.

As Elijah ran through his back yard, he took note of the way the sun felt on his skin, the air hitting his face and the smell and sound of the grass that came up to his shins. Elijah ran back and forth and then he ran around the inside perimeter of his backyard. The perimeter of his backyard had trees on three sides and his house was on the final side.

Elijah ran for a few minutes before stopping. Although Elijah was breathing hard from the run, he didn’t feel exhausted and was still full of energy. Also, after he stopped running, he only needed a few seconds to bring his breathing back to normal.

Next, Elijah went to lift some weights. In his basement he had a workout room with a few dumbbells, a punching bag and a few other training equipment. Immediately, Elijah reached for a fifty-pound dumbbell and found the weight a lot less heavy than he expected it to be. It felt like he was lifting a ten-pound dumbbell instead of a fifty-pound one.

From the dumbbells Elijah moved on to the other equipment in his workout room. For the next few minutes Elijah pushed his muscles as he made a single round through the various training equipment. When he was done, he was breathing hard and covered in sweat. However, once again, it only took him a few seconds to adjust and bring his breathing back to normal.

Closing his eyes, Elijah looked inward to sense the energy within his body while he reflected on his recent performance. Although he didn’t have super strength or super speed, he did have the ability to compete with Olympic athletes. He may not be able to win any medals right now, but he should be able to do so after he spent some time training. Or he might be able to compete after he completed a few cultivation sessions.

With that thought, Elijah’s eyes flew open, and he immediately went to his backyard. His current body definitely met the requirements to begin cultivating. Once Elijah was in his backyard he began to relax as he tried to adjust his body and mind. Although he wasn’t exhausted, he wasn’t at his peak physical and mental energy levels because of the running and weight exercises he recently completed.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Before Elijah began cultivating, he already had the body of a cultivator. Now, he could feel his physical energy or stamina flowing through his body and the mental energy flowing through his mind. He didn’t have a way to quantify the total amount of energy within himself, but he could get a vague sensation of how much energy his mind and body could contain. As Elijah stood in his backyard, he could feel the energy in his body slowly increase and rise to its peak. Once he felt like he was full, he knew it was time to begin.

One palm was raised to the sky. Elijah didn’t sense any astral energy, but he did feel a gentle breeze start to flow around him. Another palm was directed to the earth. The gentle breeze became more intense, and Elijah was able to sense a faint amount of astral energy in the air around him. Elijah crossed his arms over his chest. He could feel the intensity of the wind and the astral energy around him increase.

Next Elijah began performing the movements of his cultivation techniques. He danced around his backyard as he punched, kicked, twisted and turned. The wind and astral energy in his surroundings became more intense as he moved through his backyard.

Grass was ripped from the ground and Joined Elijah in his dance. Sweat streamed down Elijah’s body, soaking his clothes and wetting the ground beneath him. Elijah struggled to maintain the proper breathing for his Supreme Ruler cultivation technique as he continued to move and exhaust his energy.

Unlike cultivation in Fallen Heaven, Elijah found that in the real world, the difficulty of cultivation had increased by several levels. Although it only took two minutes to complete one cultivation session with his Supreme Ruler cultivation technique, it felt like he was using a lot more energy than he did when he was running and lifting weights. However, that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part was that Elijah had only been cultivating for one minute.

Elijah felt his mind become sluggish, so he stopped thinking and instinctively went through the remaining movements of his cultivation technique. His body felt weak, so he roused his will to help him push his body through the remaining movements. Elijah’s body sent signals of pain and exhaustion toward his mind letting him know he had reached his limits and it was time for him to stop.

Ruthlessly, Elijah pushed down the voice telling him to stop and continued his cultivation. If Elijah was doing a normal exercise, he wouldn’t mind stopping since he was tired. But this was cultivation. Giving up would affect the amount of astral energy he absorbed and that could potentially have negative effects on his future cultivation. Losing out on the opportunity to improve himself through cultivation because he was tired brought one word to Elijah’s mind.

UNACCEPTABLE. Elijah would willingly break every bone in his body to cultivate. He would walk on a mountain of blades and allow himself to be burned by the harshest flames. He would willingly feel the pain of stepping on Legos and random children’s toys for the rest of his life for the sake of cultivation. Almost anything was acceptable if it led him to miraculous abilities that could potentially be gained through cultivation.

Of course, Elijah didn’t currently have the ability to consciously have these thoughts. This was a subconscious desire that motivated him to keep moving even when he didn’t think he could. It was this desire that allowed him to finish the movements for his cultivation technique.

With a powerful shout, Elijah raised one palm into the air and directed his other palm to the ground. For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The wind stopped moving and the grass stopped dancing.

Suddenly the wind and the grass began to move and ferociously slammed into Elijah’s skin. At first, Elijah felt a cool sensation as the wind hit his skin. The cool sensation came from the astral energy Elijah gathered through cultivation.

Quickly the cool sensation gave way to a burning sensation. The cold and heat woke Elijah up and helped him focus his mind. The astral energy he absorbed had begun tempering his skin. Elijah needed to be awake and alert to make sure the tempering process was carried out properly.

In Fallen Heaven, Elijah received help from the game system when he cultivated. He didn’t need to worry about making mistakes that injure his body or harm his cultivation foundation. Although Elijah didn’t need to worry about properly cultivating in Fallen Heaven, he still did so anyway.

When Elijah cultivated, he did his best to familiarize himself with the tempering process of each stage in the body tempering realm. Now that he was tempering his skin in real life, he was able to do so without making any mistakes. The only problem he had was the lack of physical and mental energy he needed to complete the process.

Gritting his teeth Elijah continued to guide the astral energy into his skin. Every inch of his skin was damaged, repaired, tempered, and nurtured. Signals of pain and pleasure repeatedly swept through Elijah’s mind, but he ignored both of them. All off his attention was focused on making sure all the astral energy he absorbed from his surroundings was properly used to temper his skin.

Once all the astral energy was used up, Elijah let out a breath that he didn’t know he was holding. When he exhaled, a stream of long black condensed air shot several feet away from his mouth. Elijah was surprised to see the black air and thought that it was strange, but that was the last conscious thought he would have for some time. The very next second Elijah’s vision went dark, and he collapsed on to the ground.
