SR Chapter 13: Heading Out

In Fallen Heaven, almost two days have passed since Elijah became chief. He spent the past two days working with the people in his village, planning to defend or attack the goblins, and providing astral energy to the village core. Also, Elijah increased his cultivation level and increased the stage of his cultivation technique.

During the past two days, Elijah prioritized providing astral energy to the village core. Therefore, he wasn’t able to gain as much levels as he did on the first day. However, Elijah didn’t wake up exhausted after he exited the game.

Currently, Elijah was sitting with Elder Jeb, the other leaders of the village and several warriors in the communal area. This was strange because there was only an hour left until dusk and he should be at the training area, getting ready to cultivate. The reason they gathered in the communal area at this time was because they received information about the goblins.

“We should attack now while we can still take them by surprise,” Justin said.

“Have you not learned your lesson yet?” An elder named Tina rebuked. “When will you learn to stop seeking out battles unnecessarily?”

Justin looked a little embarrassed by the rebuke, but he didn’t back down. “This time is different.”

“No, it’s not. Since the goblins have not found our village yet, the best thing we can do is cover our tracks, stay within the village and keep ourselves hidden.”

“Hiding and waiting gives the goblins more time to gather into large groups. At that point we won’t have the ability to fight back.”

“I agree with Justin,” another elder said. “We discussed slowly killing the goblins with sneak attacks. Now seems like the perfect time to act.”

“We’re risking the safety of the village,” Tina said. “Attacking will draw the goblins attention to the area around our village. It is best to be patient and continue gathering information.”

“Everyone, please be quiet.”

After watching everyone argue back and forth for a few minutes, Elijah held up his hand and asked for silence. Quickly, everyone stopped talking and focused their gazes on him. Outwardly Elijah was wearing a calm expression, but on the inside, he was delighted to see how effective his Supreme Speech skill was.

“So far, all we know is the number of goblins in the area are rapidly increasing. It’s unlikely for the numbers to decrease, so I think we should do what Justin suggested. We should attack while we still have the element of surprise.”

“Are you sure that’s the best decision?”

“Chief, please think twice before you make a decision.”

Tina and a few other elders were quick to speak up after they heard Elijah’s decision. However, their voices were unable to change his mind. He thought it was best to actively face the threat, rather than passively wait for it to go away.

“Every decision we make caries some risk,” Elijah stated. “However, by attacking the goblins we can give our warriors the opportunity to gain levels in their job and their specialty. By attacking, our warriors will become stronger and be more capable of handling the next threat we face.”

“I still think attacking the goblins at this time is an unnecessary risk,” Tina stated.

“I can’t assure you that nothing will go wrong when we attack. However, as the chief, I think attacking is the best thing we can do for the village and ourselves. What we should do now is go over the strategies we created for attacking the goblins. Of course, if everyone has a strong reason to not attack, I’m willing to hear what they have to say.” After a brief silence Elijah continued to speak. “It’s decided. We will attack the goblins. Now, let’s go over our strategy.”

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

Elijah saw a notification appear in the corner of his view. He focused on it and saw that he received a new quest. After he read the description for the quest, Elijah’s eyes widen in surprise.

Noticing his change in his expression, Elder Jeb asked Elijah what was wrong. Elijah told everyone about the quest he received, and they asked him to share the information with them. After they told Elijah how to share quest information, he shared it and waited while everyone read the information.

“This can’t be true,” an elder stated.

“It is,” Elder Jeb replied. “Although it’s hard to believe, the heavens do not allow quest to contain any lies or falsehoods.”

“I had no idea there were so many goblins nearby,” Tina said.

“The quest doesn’t say where the goblins are, so we don’t know how close they are to the village,” Elijah stated. “However, we do know how many goblins we’re facing. I suggest we leave at least half of our warriors in the village for protection.”

“That won’t be necessary,” Elder Jeb said. “The other elders and I will be staying behind to provide protection. At most we will need a quarter of the warriors to stay behind and provide protection.”

Elijah and the other leaders began discussing their defenses and attack plan. The plan they decided to utilize wasn’t complex, but it took them a long time to settle on a specific plan. By the time they were finished, it was nighttime and Elijah lost the opportunity to cultivate by the broken crystal.

With all the planning complete, everyone left to prepare the items and equipment they would bring with them tomorrow. Elijah didn’t have anything to prepare or any task to complete, so he decided it was time to log out. Elijah returned to Johnathan’s home to rest. Elder Jeb wanted to have a home built for Elijah, but everyone agreed that it wasn’t the best time.

Once Elijah was out of the game, he ate a meal and took a nap. When he woke up, he immediately put on his gaming helmet and was back in the game. He ate a meal that Johnathan’s wife Anna prepared for him before he left to meet with the warriors and leader of the village. There was still two hours left until dawn, but everyone agreed that it was best if they left as soon as possible.

“I have good news,” Elijah announced. “The number of goblins we have to hunt decreased.”

The village warriors and leaders were gathered at the entrance of the village. Once Elijah reached them, he immediately told them about the decrease in goblins they had to hunt. Elijah checked his quest on the way over and he saw there were only three hundred and thirty goblins remaining.

“That’s surprising,” Justin said. “Do you think they got themselves killed by some beast in the forest?”

“Unlikely. The quest says were supposed to hunt the goblins,” Elder Jeb pointed out. “They were probably killed by Jamal and the others.”

“I agree,” Elijah said. “If not them, then they were killed by the traps they created. Alright, is everyone ready to go?”

“Everyone is ready,” Elder Jeb replied. “However, I still don’t think you should go.”

During the planning, Elijah said that he would be joining Justin and the other warriors. The leaders didn’t think it was a good idea for Elijah to leave. All of the warriors were at least at level twenty in their cultivation, and they had gained several levels in their specialties and their jobs. If Elijah joined them, he would be holding them back.

Elijah was eager to experience some difficult game combat, so he did his best to convince the leaders. He showed them all of his skills and told them he would be primarily playing a supportive role. Also, he emphasized the important benefits his skills would provide.

“We already had this conversation. I’m going.”

“Fine. Justin, Elijah is in charge you are to follow all of his orders.”

“That won’t be necessary. I’m sure Justin knows more about the forest than me and I don’t mind differing to his experience.” Turning to Justin, Elijah looked him in the eyes and continued speaking. “Unless a decision needs to be made on a matter affecting the safety of the village, I will follow your command alongside the others as well. Our lives are in your hands, so I hope you’ll lead us well.”

“Thank you,” Justin said. “I won’t let you down.”

Justin walked away after he finished speaking. He spoke to a few warriors, and they began running out of the village. As he did that, Elder Jeb thanked Elijah for allowing Justin to lead the warriors and Elder Jeb handed him two weapons.

Item: Copper Sword

Tier: 0

Durability: 26/27

Description: An ordinary sword. Attack 18- 21

Requirements: None

Item: Wooden Shield

Tier: 0

Durability: 12/12

Description: An ordinary shield. Defense 8-10

Requirements: None

“Thank you.” Elijah replied as he inspected the two weapons.

“The sword is the strongest weapon we have in town. It used to be stronger, but it degraded as we tried to restore its durability. The shield is the same as the ones that the other warriors are using. You have already been given archery equipment and the clothing that our warriors wear into battle. We’ve given you our best, so I hope you return alive and well.”

Before Elijah was made chief, he was walking around the village with his torn starting clothes. After he was made chief, Elder Jeb had someone prepare new clothes for him. After all, a chief couldn’t be dressed in rags.

Elijah was now wearing a brown cotton shirt and pants. His upper and lower body were both covered in leather armor. Lastly, he had brown and grey colored fur draped over his torso.

“Don’t worry, I will.” Elijah replied.

“Chief, we’re ready to leave,” Justin said.

With a smile on his face Elijah gave him a firm reply. “Good, then let’s head out.”
