Chapter 6: The hero joins the fight.

Chapter 6: The hero joins the fight.

Saida smiled and started casting a spell while Legias was preparing a mana blast, a condensation of raw mana that acted as explosive ammo, but before they could start the fight, Kanbe stopped them by grabbing both of them by their arms.

"If we are fighting, we do it outside at least! In the outskirts!" Kanbe said, as he was feeling that something wasn't right. It was as if his skin was being pricked by a sharp needle made of mana.

Saida looked at Kanbe with an angry face for a few seconds, but then noticed that it’d be easier to bury Legias in the forest than in the city, which made her smile.

"Yes, you are right." Saida said as she smiled.

Legias saw Kanbe’s intervention as a way to escape, and decided to try to talk his way out. His mother had told him many times to retreat once he saw a situation extremely disadvantageous for him, and his idea was to make a ruckus in the city so the guard would find him and stop Saida.

"I do not want to fight at all, I am trying to live my life. Now, if you excuse me, I have to go somewhere far away from the forest." Legias said, freeing himself from Kanbe's grip, trying to convince the hero to let him go.

And so Legias tried to walk away, until Saida grabbed his hand with a wide smile, which made Legias get pale. He hoped that Saida would at least be decent enough to postpone the attack, and so he would have time to run away, but it turned out that she was not going to let him go.

"Then allow me to kill you, Brother. It's the only way out, after all. For me, it would be easier to just snuff you out." Saida said with a warm smile, which made Kanbe shiver.

Legias looked at Saida, while sweating, and knew that he couldn’t walk away now, which meant he had to fight. So he took a deep breath and prepared for the fight of his life.

"Or I die or I fight? Then I shall have to fight." Legias said as he took a deep breath, his objective wasn't victory but to cause enough ruckus to attract monsters to escape.

Legias followed Saida and Kanbe to the outskirts of the city, to be exact a small forest glade with vibrant grass in which few people could see from the area near the gate, knowing that if he tried to escape Kanbe or Saida would stop him right away and finish him off. But what none of them knew was that Zerana had seen and heard all and went to warn Lillian and the others.

Meanwhile, Evan was reading a book of history and learned various things about the world in the library.

This world was extremely similar to the one of Dawn World, and had the same name as the world of Dawn World which was Terra, because of the great variety of sentient beings that it had and the skill affinities that it had. This made Evan suspect that this world could be the very same world of Dawn World, yet he didn't have enough data to reach that conclusion.

Also, it had several continents, three of them appeared in one map, that were in a triangular disposition. Evan was in the north continent, which was known as the Silvtiel continent.

There were 10 races in this world: Dragons, dwarves, Arens, half-races, elves, dark elves, demons, angels, beastkin and humans. All of them had some massive racial differences between each other, which the book didn't go into full detail unless for the case of dragons.

Evan was in the human kingdom of Elstivia and in that continent also were the two elven kingdoms, Rivialt for the elven kingdom and Krebs for the dark elf kingdom, and the dwarven kingdom of Straka.

For an example of race differences, Evan checked the dragon race differences and learned that there were 6 types of dragons. Also that most of them could change into an humanoid form, just like in Dawn World.

- Green Dragon: the weakest dragon type who only could use a fire breath, its strength and wind magic.

- Red Dragon: Physically the strongest but only able to use fire breath and some fire magic.

- Blue Dragon: Magically the strongest but only had as a way to attack water magic and its fire breath.

- Black Dragon: Balanced strength and magic power but capable of using several elements and even used skills in their dragon form

- White Dragon: A rare species of dragon that can heal. Only can fight using the fire breath.

- Dragon King: This race of dragons is almost extinct but they rule over all other dragons. They have the magic power of a Blue Dragon, the physical strength of a Red Dragon and the elemental mastery of a Black Dragon. Alongside those powers, they have the ability to control any kind of dragon unless the seventh race called Primal Dragon with only one member of it.

The dragon race lived in the country that was near a group of mountains that made the valley of the damned. That place was a valley where all the races threw those who did the worst crimes in history, and usually they were peaceful but always loved to fight.

Evan looked disappointed, but with that information, he completed a tutorial quest. Noche came back from a walk he had, if you could consider floating outside the library a walk, and started floating around the library.

"Did I finish the first quest?" Evan asked.

"No, the fifth. Good job. Still, you only have a 5% done of the second quest." Noche replied as he chuckled.

"The history book was not enough. I will search for more books." Evan said as he scratched his head.

"Good idea. But the reward of the fifth quest is better. You will gain the skill affinities of your body." Noche said with a happy tone.

"Which were?" Evan asked.

"Dark Knight, Thunder Magic, Holy Knight, and Monster Devourer." Noche answered Evan's question.

Evan started pondering over the skills that he had obtained, mostly remembering that most of them unless monster devourer were in Dawn World. Then remembered exactly what those skills gave to the user, and turned out to be a bit disappointing for Evan. Even if those skills on their own would be good for players back in Dawn World, they didn't fit in his build.

"I don't like how it seems to be an extra magic element, two contradictory job skills and the last seems an overpowered extra level system." Evan said as he scowled, since that would mean he would have to choose which skills he learned.

"Do you have Oracle skills or what?" Noche asked with an annoyed tone.

"And here I thought that I would have weaknesses." Evan said as he chuckled to himself.

"And you have. First, you cannot hide your status and skills as other mages. Now you don't have any adept spell or master spell to use. And you cannot see the status of the people. Alongside a total lack of common sense and knowledge of this world and a perfect man charm. And you can be tricked and affected by the curses, ailment spells, and poison." Noche said as he floated around Evan.

"That's a good thing." Evan said calmly, considering which parts he could improve. 'But I am totally resistant to poison, curses, and the like. Thank you Namika.' Evan thought to himself.

"And that a slime can kill you easily due to your wounds. And that you have to feed a vampire with your blood…" Noche said as he kept considering weaknesses that Evan held right now.

"Stop! I get it! I am not strong!" Evan exclaimed as he was being annoyed by Noche. 'He is worse than a tutorial!' Evan thought, while considering what he should do.

Noche started to sound stressed and looked like he would start crying, but he couldn't truly cry due to being a book.

"Right now, you are at your weakest and still surpass surely the hero. Makes me want to cry. If my previous owners had it this hard, they would have killed themselves. A bad step and is sure death." Noche said as he sounded stressed.

"Well, I will get back to my best in some years and get even stronger!" Evan exclaimed as he smirked. ‘Hopefully I have more skills to learn this once, and at least one that makes my undead better.’ Evan thought to himself.

"Good! Because this world is not going to dominate itself!" Noche said with an excited tone, clearly excited about the prospect of world domination. ‘Also, you need to focus on the grind. I need you to get stronger ASAP, since you are a necromancer. Necromancers are shitheads or useless. I hate that kind of coin toss.’ Noche thought to himself as he started rating Evan as a dark lord, and comparing him to other dark lords.

"Yes, and I have to find my little ones! My small homunculus!" Evan said while smirking. ‘Also, I must make one mental note. I need an army of undead. Since I can just go full undead production, best I get onto it and make it massive. No more grinding, no more pain. Also, better benefits if I don’t have to worry about treachery and betrayal.’ Evan thought to himself, considering some plans for the future.

Then Zerana entered inside the room, looking quite afraid. Evan didn't notice the fear in her face, mostly because he was thinking about the homonculi he made in Dawn World. He considered them his kids, because he had spent quite a lot of time with them and were the only ones close to a true family that he had.

"What is wrong, Zerana?" Evan asked as his smirk disappeared from his face. ‘Don’t tell me she’s feral now, please. I am a young adult, but that doesn’t mean I am a lolicon!’ Evan thought to himself as he was worrying about the situation.

"Legias is going to be killed! A strange human and an elven woman have attacked him." Zerana exclaimed as she looked worried.

"Crap baskets! Carry me to where they are!" Evan exclaimed, worried about Legias and that he had gotten into any kind of trouble.

"Yes!" Zerana said as she got ready to run. ‘Also, I hope I get some nice bath plus a good help with my fur! It’s starting to get unkempt!’ Zerana thought to herself, considering that this mess might mess the shower order, and so she wouldn’t be able to get a good brushing on her fur.

Zerana and Evan started running to the outskirts, both worried for Legias safety, and Evan's fear of losing some part of the family he made was making him curse the fact that he was so weakened right now.

Meanwhile, in the outskirts of the city, an area with grass, trees, and bushes... Legias was trying to hit Saida with several mana blasts, spheres of blue energy that would damage those that touched them, but she dodged them and tried to hit him with her wind magic. Kanbe is sitting around sipping a cup of tea, tired of this boring fight and hoping that Saida just captures Legias. That way, at least, they could leave and probably would be the last time he had to help with that kind of problems.

But Legias was smarter and kept dodging because he knew that in one moment he would have a good chance to attack well Saida and defeat her. It seemed like he could win until Kanbe got up and looked angry, because he had noticed the plan that Legias was doing.

"Legias! Hurt lady Saida once, and we will have to stop you. I have used minor analysis on you! I know that you can defeat her. But you won't be able to defeat me" Kanbe said while scowling. If Saida got hurt, he'd have to deal with the elven embassy and probably would have to handle all the orphanage.

"Shut it! I can defeat you both! Oh mana, grant me your blessing and defeat my foes! MANA SPEAR!" Leguas said as he started circulating his mana.

A blue aura came out of Legias left hand, which was the mana itself, and was shaped in the form of a spear which went directly to Saida who smiled and put her staff down in the ground.

"Ice, protect me! ICE WALL!" Saida said as mana came out of her body and infiltrated the earth.

A wall of ice, which released a wave of cold air that made Kanbe shiver, came out from a small puddle of water that was just in front of Saida. The mana spear struck the wall, trying to pierce it, but the wall almost blocked the mana spear and the remaining mana pierced through the cracks of the ice, which allowed it to hit Saida and hurt her abdomen badly, making a few severe cut wounds on her stomach. Yet, Saida withstood it and prepared her staff to cast an adept level water spell while aiming at Legias.

"Water, pierce my foes! WATER CANNON!" Saida said as her mana was circulating towards the staff.

The staff of Saida shot a stream of water from her staff, which hit Legias and almost pierced his torso. Legias fell to the ground defeated, mostly due to the damage caused to his ribs and the pain he was inflicted thanks to a cannon of pressurized water and the mental fatigue that caused using those spells. Saida walked closer to Legias, and aimed at his head with her staff, while smiling widely.

"Time to finish this." Saida said as she prepared to cast one last spell to finish off Legias. ‘Finally, no more worrying about nobles trying to get my hand in marriage! Just me and Eden!’ Saida thought as she was already imagining her wedding.

"I had the status advantage... Why?" Legias said as he cursed his inability to get the advantage.

Before Saida could even begin to gloat, a young voice came out from the bushes that were in the northeast area from the area where Saida and Legias were fighting.

"For being a fool and not predicting her attacks! Totally a match that was easy and you mess up. Well, experience is the best teacher, after all my foolish friend." The young voice said, which did raise all the alarms in Kanbe's mind.

Everyone looked around to seek the person who said those words, which had quite the childish voice, but by the time they could even start locating the bushes... Evan got out of some bushes that were behind Legias, and had some branches on his hair.

He aimed at Saida's left leg with his right index finger, remembering how a certain fire spell worked and cast it immediately.

"Fire bullet." Evan said as mana circulated from his mind to this right index fingertip.

Upon saying those words, from Evan’s right index finger a bullet made of fire, came out from his finger before Saida could cast any spell and pierced her leg with no trouble.

This bullet was at an extremely high temperature, which left quite the cauterized wound in her leg, and caused Saida to scream loudly in pain.

‘You know, this is a genius move. Which is why I spammed the spell back in Dawn World. Defense piercing, and easy to use. Also, easy to customize. A shame I am in a child’s body. That said, the princess doesn’t look half bad.’ Evan thought seeing the effects of the spell

Said wound made the young princess fall to the ground, unable to move, which forced Kanbe to unsheathe his sword and aimed it at Evan while in his free hand a ball of pure light was being made.

"Holy heal!" Kanbe said, instinctively circulating mana across his body to empower the ball of light he had created before. ‘Let’s hope the spell works as the description says, damn! It’s my first time dealing with this kind of wound!’ Kanbe thought to himself as he was in panic, worried about Saida’s wellbeing and the consequences this attack would have on him.

The ball of light, which was an accumulation of mana, was shot from Kanbe's hand and entered inside Saida's leg. At first, the ball of light calmed the pain that Saida was feeling, and then it felt warmer but didn’t burn the princess’s leg.

From within the leg, the holy mana started regenerating her wounds by forcing the cells that weren’t burned to replicate and heal the wound, while the new cells devoured the necrotized cells.

After 10 seconds, Saida got up, enraged by Evan’s surprise attack and embarrassed of the wound she was given, while aiming her sword at Evan.

While Saida was getting up and all, Evan was simply looking at the spell and nodding due to being certain that it worked exactly the same way that it did in Dawn World.

"Who are you?" Saida asked, as she shaked slightly due to the damage caused by the spell.

Evan smiled and didn’t bow at the prince, which did irritate Saida, while doing a simple gesture with his hand to put it on his heart.

This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Evan did it to seem cultured, and well-behaved, while offending Saida. After all, an enraged enemy was far more predictable than a calm one and if he could shift that rage into fear… It’d be even better, since trauma created from anger is stronger than trauma simply created when someone is just scared.

"I would say that I am a friend of Legias. And talking about that! Zerana! Grab Legias and send him to the holy maiden. I handle all of this and I come back. I give them 30 minutes before I defeat them, seeing the might of the princess, that is." Evan said as he smirked, taunting Saida who looked more angry than scared right now.

"Right!" Zerana said as she went to grab Legias.

Zerana got out of the bushes and quickly grabbed Legias, but Saida was ready to attack her before she could get away, yet Evan aimed with his left hand at Saida while looking slightly angry.

"Who are you to try to be that cheeky? I will teach you to focus on the threat. Firebolt!" Evan said as he circulated his mana to condensate it on his palm.

A bolt made of fire came out from Evan’s left hand, and went straight to hit Saida, who couldn't dodge due to her wounds. Yet, just like a hero would do, Kanbe blocked it, and it exploded, which made Kanbe fly a few meters away.

Due to Kanbe’s equipment, which had an upgrade made from magic that protected the entire body from all kinds of burns caused by physical means, the young hero managed to avoid being scarred. The flames were spread away from the body when the bolt exploded.

That said, Saida could not cast well, which caused the spell to fail, which made her cough blood and feel a massive headache. That was the effects that uncontrolled magic had upon the body of someone who had suffered internal damage.

"Nope. You ain't getting that booty today. But probably you are part of the family, so great job, hero." Evan said while smirking.

"And who are you exactly?" Kanbe asked, in order to win time for Saida to recover.

Evan chuckled when he heard that question, he wanted to toy with the hero that had worked with the princess to kill his grandson. Also, since he wasn’t sure if Saida was of the family… He decided to manipulate the situation: He would use the young prince name to cause a small seed of doubt in anyone who heard the hero’s report, just in case the hero survived, while trying to get the reactions from the elven princess and learn the truth.

"My name is Edward Leonhard, a simple orphan who also seems to have to act as a butler sometimes, answering the door, taking out the trash and kill self-entitled twats like you two. You may call me, Evan. Or Lord Hades, if you may desire to refer to one of my many titles." Evan said as he did a respectful bow at Kanbe.

Kanbe looked angry at Evan, but Saida's face paled and looked like if she had seen a ghost that she would give anything to avoid.

She started shivering, but tried to keep her composure, and decided that the boy couldn't be her grandfather due to the fact that he had used a different name rather than the one in the stories.

"You have protected a cursed child, and you attacked a princess of the elven kingdom of Rivialt! I shall end your mischief, one way or another." Kanbe said as he unsheathed his sword. ‘Maybe this scores some points with the king, and allows me to prevent having to deal with this. Saida is a good girl, but she’s too much for me.’ Kanbe thought as he hoped to intimidate the child.

Evan chuckled while hearing Kanbe, and keeping an eye on Saida, and then proceeded to walk calmly while circling the hero and the princess. Saida was of the family, he was sure of that, and she knew what happened to those who tried to kill his family.

Also, Evan hoped that she would be aware that he could go for the throat at anytime for trying to kill Legias. After all, that would make things easier.

"At least have the bloody brilliant idea of introducing yourself. But I guess that twat 1 is the sister of Legias, who probably already has guessed who I truly am, and twat 2 is the self-entitled hero, which to my despair isn't the first time to see one... And probably not the last." Evan said as he scowled.

"My name is Kanbe Tokugawa! And I shall end you, fiend!" Kanbe said as he prepared to fight Evan, he was considering that Evan was a young child mage and that he could end the fight quickly if he charged at him.

Evan looked at Kanbe with a bored look, sighed, and shrugged while preparing to fight. While Saida decided to confront the boy she was seeing, unsure of what to do due to the actions of the boy, and was doubting if it was the same man that created her mother or just a fool trying to scare her.

"And that's 943 times." Evan announced, in order to make sure to throw off the hero. ‘Which reminds me, if they reincarnated too… I will have to kill them too if they become a problem. Oh, and what if they have families!? I need wine baskets, and fruit baskets too since I am not going to give to the children wine, plus a package plan for widows of foolish heroes, maybe even give them jobs. I may be evil, but not a heartless bastard. They already suffered enough having that annoying hero in their family.’ Evan thought as he considered the fact that maybe he would have to fight wannabe heroes too.

Kanbe looked clearly surprised at Evan, not understanding what was happening, while Saida’s doubts started to disappear and a fearsome worry started swelling up from the depths of her mind.

"What are you talking about?" Kanbe cautiously asked, trying to win time for Saida to calm down. ‘Don’t tell me this guy is one of those mass-murderers that kill anyone who tries to stop him… It’ll be a harsh battle for sure! But justice prevails!’ Kanbe thought to himself, steeling his mind and focusing at the task at hand.

"Don't mind me, continue with your heroic speech. I have this small habit of mine of counting up how many times a fool has said some kind of heroic line to me, trying to make me shiver in fear. Also, I do count the number of fools I have crushed and properly teabagged after they ran their mouths. Probably after today, you will be the 10000th fool I crush and properly teabag. Congratulations, you get an extra hit for being so foolish to not see the sign of stop and keep going." Evan said as his smirk got wider. ‘Also, that brings back to what I was considering before, I need to make a business. Maybe one for office suits, alongside other clothes like swimsuits. Oh, yes, I am going to have a lot of money this time. Just like in Dawn World, I am going to just automatize the damned money acquirement. No more insane grind for money, nor merc jobs… Remember Sunset Temple, I ended up having to turn it into Sunset Crater. That said, I must make a mental note of preparing to use fireball when the guys look at Lillian with a micro bikini. I am still a young adult in a boy’s body, even if I control myself better than most, but I know the allure that innocent nun has!’ Evan thought to himself as he waited for the hero to do something, keeping his eyes on what kind of cliché line the hero would use.

Kanbe was left speechless, unable to continue the cliché heroic lines to intimidate the enemy, and Saida decided to test the boy that attacked her in order to confirm what remained to confirm.

"My brother has talked about me and has not said my name? Well, the name is Saida. And it shall be the last name you hear." Saida said in an attempt to intimidate the boy, and try to discern what she considered the truth.

Evan chuckled while Saida shivered in fear, and so Evan applauded Saida for a small moment.

"Oh, nice to hear my granddaughter's name. A shame she has broken the rule of not hurting the family, that's at least 15000 spanks and probably me thinking in going to teabag your father. That said... Shall we start this wonderful party!?" Evan said while applauding. ‘You bastards, going after my family is a big no. Also, I have a bitch of a granddaughter. For two good things that happened, and one got spoiled!’

Evan smiled like a demon and got ready to attack, while Saida’s mind was devoured by fear and worry, but also she made sure to remember to never truly report this.

After all, if the return of Lord Hades was real… She would do anything to not enter in history as the first to know that it was him, and to attack him nonetheless.

***

As Evan was dealing with Saida and Kanbe, Noche had decided to stay behind. Mainly because he had a feeling that the hero was near, and didn’t want to be detected by the hero just yet.

And what better place to hide for a talking book than a library? At least that was Noche’s plan all along in this case, since he was planning to just hide away there until the situation was defused.

“Well, better to hide here than being a jackass and say-” Noche said, before being interrupted by Flint running around.

“I don’t want a shaving!” Flint said as she escaped from Lillian who was carrying a blade to shave Flint’s slight body hair.

“I was going to say come and get me hero… But that works just fine. Knowing the hero usual skillset, he might carry a blade.” Noche said, as he searched the area for a secure place to rest, until he found out a hidden passage behind a bookshelf on the left side of the library.

“Eh, I am no adventurer… But I am going to check things here, in case Evan is asking why I am staying here. Better than telling him that I knew the hero was around, and that he says-” Noche pondered, before being interrupted in his monologue by a Lillian sprinting across the orphanage with the blade, running after Flint.

“Come here, I am just going to make sure your body hair is not overgrown! You’ll look lean and cute!” Lillian exclaimed, as she was running after Flint. ‘Seriously, this is like when I come to visit Caroline in the early morning, and she’s still sleeping!’ Lillian thought to herself.

“I was going to say come here and get burned just a little bit to reinforce loyalty, but that suits the situation so much better, knowing Evan.” Noche said as he floated and used his body as a crowbar to open enough space for him to sneak inside the hidden passage he had found.

As Noche floated around the hidden passage, he looked amazed at the fact that it was incredibly small but had a massive portal made of azure mana that crackled with energy. This made Noche look surprised for a moment, as expressionless as he was, and floated through the portal as he threw caution to the wind.

And Noche found himself inside a pink room that had a massive pink fure carpet as floor, walls made of maple wood with pink frames and several photos of Lillian and an exceedingly tall blonde woman with long blonde hair, a blue with golden stripes nun outfit, transparent stockings, and blue platform heels. A few of those frames showed both wearing one piece swimsuits near a beach, while a few guys tried to flirt with them in the background, and Lillian seemed to blush brightly in those frames.

Alongside those frames, Noche found at least ten wardrobes filled with all kinds of dresses, tops, miniskirts, heels, platform heels, and all kinds of feminine clothes. For a moment, he thought that he was having the trip of his life, until he recalled that he had gone through a portal.

“Either I am in a psycho’s bedroom… Or I am in Lillian’s secret room. You know, I feel like I found an Easter egg of those that the heroes always talk about. And don’t know why, I feel like I won something. That said, I recognize the woman near Lillian… Oh, the archbishop-” Noche said as he pondered the situation.

Once the realization struck true, Noche started cackling and floating like a maddened fly all across the room. He had realized what was going on, and decided to keep checking things out and found out a white orb which the book recognized clearly.

“Ah, a memory orb. Those are great to record a diary in case of being unable to write on a book. Used to have a few. Probably the past heroes broke them… I shouldn’t check it out, right? Hmmm… We arrived here by being jackasses, so might as well check it. If Lillian didn’t want anyone to see this, she should have hidden this better!” Noche said, as he floated near the orb, and used his mana to check out what the orb held.

What he would find there, it would be a thing he would carry with himself to his graveyard, as it was a diary of Lillian’s attempts to learn about flirting from the archbishop of the church of Zerax and her trying out the different clothes that the archbishop prepared for her with very specific tailors, who Noche recalled as either missing or dead due to heart attacks.

“This doesn’t sound good at all for the tailors, but excuse me. She’s a beauty. Why isn’t she with a husband already? It isn’t like the church of Zerax bans that. In fact, it bans monogamous marriages, but it’s a free buffet for those that believe in polyamorous situations. Especially since the nuns are expected to share the love with everyone, and the heroes that Zerax summons end up being married to several important political members of society… Usually princesses.” Noche pondered, after seeing the memory orb’s content. ‘Also, why didn’t the succubi try to sneak inside the church of Zerax? It’s free food thanks to those tenets.’ Noche thought to himself, his curiosity driving further into trying to understand the church of Zerax.

That is until he found something even more amazing, hidden inside one of the wardrobes, which made him look amazed at what he had found. So he moved above said item, and mana flowed from his body to the object he had found and made it disappear.

“Stashing this item in the inventory. I must show it to Evan later. I wonder how he will react to it!” Noche said as he heard steps.

Before anyone could enter inside the place, Noche teleported away using a spell and in a flash of light he went back to the library and hid himself as a normal book stashed with the rest. He stayed besides a book called ‘Succubi and other demon traditions, and fashion’, hiding the secret he had acquired.
