Chapter 28: Arriving to the mansion.

Chapter 28: Arriving to the mansion.

Evan, Rose, Caroline, and Lillian were walking to the house of the Holgan family and when they arrived, Evan could only want to facepalm himself. The “house” was a five floors mansion, made of stone bricks with a colonial style that made Evan feel even worse, with 250 rooms which of them there were 50 bathrooms, 100 guest rooms, 10 kitchens, 20 offices, 20 storage rooms, 5 bedrooms, 20 living rooms and 35 cell rooms where what could be called premium slaves were kept.

The premium slaves were people with extremely high level, extremely high status and many skills that were extremely useful for what they were used for, like teacher skills to teach skills to the young nobles, cleaner skills to clean houses and more.

Evan heard already while walking around the city that the Holgan family had a lot of money, and used it to increase their profits and their slaves condition, but this was beyond what he had expected even in the worst case scenario. This, alone, made him get worried and angry at the same time, which made Caroline notice it and got her worried. Rose reacted just like how Evan had reacted, which made Lillian get worried as well.

“Are you alright, Evan?” Caroline asked with a worried face, as she looked at Evan.

“Cannot process this. Nope. No way to process this. Error 404: Logic not found.” Evan said as he looked

“I think his mind went mechanical and broke down.” Lillian said as she looked worriedly at Evan.

“No. The last phrase is a popular phrase of adventurers, back in his era.” Caroline said, as she looked at Lillian with a smirk.

“I cannot believe that slavery allowed this to be real…” Rose said as she looked clearly surprised.

“Unluckily, the Holgan use the profits to increase their profits with more slavery deals, and also to increase the sales of another kind of commercial sales. The kind that wins nobles and gets favors done quite easily, escort bars and maid cafés.” Grandine said, while she walked with the group.

“They are quite smart and proud.” Lillian said with a worried look on her face.

“Then that pride shall be their downfall. The proud people who have all what they want are easy to rile up.” Evan said as he smirked. ‘Nobles are easy to rile up if you besmirch their pride, and when they are corrupt… It’s easy to set up a honey trap, so I can loot them. If they have legendary grade items, that should be good for me. Oh, wait, we are not in Dawn World. Eh, well, we are but after a long time… The rarity and tier system should still be going…’ Evan thought to himself, as he followed the group.

Evan and the rest went closer to the mansion, and they saw also the big garden with big trees, dummies to train and even a pair of storage rooms and there were around 30 hounds ready to go after an intruder.

Then a small girl, with pale skin, long black hair, deep blue eyes, with bruises in her arms who was wearing torn clothes tried to enter the house to sell matches and flowers, just to be attacked by a hound. Evan's body moved on its own and used a fire bullet to kill the hound and helped the girl to get up.

Then the girl's eyes glowed for a second, with an electrical discharge coming out of her eyes. The girl saw Evan kneeling down in a church in front of a priest who was doing the age ceremony praying to the gods but just after that ceremony, the priest is incinerated by black flames as the future Evan walked to the girl, and patted her head. After the vision, the girl got herself up and Evan looked intrigued.

“Thank you, sir.” The girl said as she looked intrigued. ‘Who is that person? I have seen different futures, but I never saw something like that.’ The girl thought to herself as Evan looked at her.

“Call me Evan and what happened? Why are you selling matches and flowers instead of... I don't know, play with your friends?” Evan asked as he looked at the girl with a curious look. ‘If she was an assassin, I’d be regenerating. But her eyes released that sort of energy… A prophet? If so, that is quite a surprise.’ Evan thought as something within him stirred, as if something wasn’t okay, but he couldn’t put his finger on what was going wrong.

“My family is poor, and we don't have enough money to pay the taxes, neither to eat a lot.

The girl was looking down and Evan managed to see that she was not saying all the truth and guessed what happened. For him, this was a typical story, but one he hated and desired to be able to prevent.

“Dead mother, drunk father?” Evan asked again, while the girl opened her eyes wide in surprise.

“How do you know?” The girl asked, while looking clearly surprised.

“Reminds me of a story I read a long time ago. It didn't end well.” Evan said with a calm look on his face. ‘It’s interesting to see such a situation happening in real life, but the question is: Why wasn’t she pushed away by the guard? Maybe it’s because she wasn’t a threat, but usually the feudal nobles would hate the idea of poor people getting close to their home. Something doesn’t add up, or it’s me having a misconception? If it’s a misconception, more reason to burn them!’ Evan thought to himself.

“I am Pynti.” Pynti introduced herself, as she looked nervously at Evan.

Evan raised an eyebrow and Noche, who was hiding within Evan, caught up what Evan was thinking, but he couldn't see the status window of the girl clearly. As if something blocked the mana analysis, but the status sheet of Pynti still came out. Even thought some information was still out of range for Evan to see it.

As the dark lord saw the status window of Pynti, he just could facepalm when he saw the status sheet, as the lady looked clearly talented.

But he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Pynti was a Demigod, that meant that Namika had something to do with his meetings. Or so he thought until he saw her special skill, Guardian: The Fated Seer. Literally, the Guardian to protect his user sent her here and caused the situation to happen.

Guardians, just like their names implied, were spirits of extremely renowned people that were sent to protect and aid those who deserved them or managed to fulfill the conditions to obtain their powers. Also, they were the source of inspiration that made Evan make the Sunken Guardians for his children.

“Well, seems that fate is not a good friend of mine. Pynti, you should go home but for that, you need to sell those things, no? Lady Caroline, maybe it would be good to have flowers and some matches in case of need.” Evan said with a warm smile. ‘If that guardian is pulling strings to use me for a reason, might as well let myself be used… Only until I can use her in return. Also, she’s a demigod. That means that I have to find her mother, I am sure she’s not dead… She just ran for a reason, and to avoid people latching onto her daughter. I don’t think that a god would allow their children to go around like this.’ Evan thought, as he started planning how to use Pynti.

“Indeed!” Caroline said as she used her inventory to pull out a pouch filled with bronze coins, and gave it to Pynti, while she smiled widely.

Caroline bought all the matches and stored them in her own inventory. Pynti smiled and left, but Evan knew that she was hiding her fear. Evan wanted to help her, but was unable to do it right now. He had to wait for a chance, and trusted that the Fated Seer was capable of dealing with any danger she was in, at least for now. Now he had to kill Josh and Roderick and then use the guard to fix things like this, without getting too involved.

Robin, Ivy, Thundy, and Kilsha were walking towards the party while clearly being a source of attention, as the girls looked so beautiful that even Thundy had a few admirers amongst the crowd that looked at the girls.

Ivy was wearing a long golden dress that reached to the knees, with a V-neck cleavage, which had a few gemstones attached to the navel area, a pair of transparent stockings, and a pair of golden heels. She looked uncomfortable due to the heels, but wore the entire outfit since it had been a gift of Ezneas.

Thundy was wearing a black long strapless dress with an amethyst that released a purple hue in the middle of the cleavage, black stockings, and black stiletto heels. On her head, there was a pointed black hat with lots of mana gems engraved onto it as it released a wide variety of colors faintly.

Thundy was wielding a rather long staff, made of a wood resembling a plum blossom tree. The bottom of this staff had an angular hook-shape made of glass and had been decorated with various gems attached in such a way that they seemed to be floating in the air. The top was made out of mythril and had been crafted into an abstract design of curves, which had been decorated with intricate gilded pattern design, as it had runes engraved all across the curves.

Kilsha wore a very tight red plated armor, which outlined all the curves of Kilsha’s body, with black lines going sharply from her shoulders towards her navel, and scales on her shoulders and gauntlets. On her waist, laid a mace made of mythril with sharp spikes attached to the spherical form of the top of the mace.

On her back, she was carrying a tower shield that fit her size made of the same wood as the staff that Thundy was using, but had been adorned with golden engravings on the center making a sigil of a sun, completed with a massive piece of sunstone attached to the middle of the sigil.

No one noticed the slight heels the boots Kisha had, due to her shortened tendons, which were fused with red plated armor she was wearing.

“You girls couldn’t have used anything less attracting. I can understand Ivy, since it was a gift of Ezneas. That pretty much shows that it is probably a rare or legendary type of clothing. But you two are going with your skimpiest battle equipment! One of you is getting married, and the other looks like a loli trying to bait some bastard!” Robin said as he glared at Thundy and Kilsha.

“Well, these are our best sets! If Evan is going to move out, might as well just carry the best equipment. If he drops on us a Sunshine on us without these, we might as well off ourselves! And you know that in this scenario, that’s exactly what that psycho would do! By what you told us, he declared war on David. If he wants to cause chaos and acquire undead while following his ethics, he might as well use it here.” Thundy said as she pouted, clearly angry by the words that Robin had said.

“Even then! It’ll attract annoying people to Ivy. Also, that damnable doting goddess… What is she thinking about when giving out such items to Ivy?” Robin said, as he scratched the back of his neck, as he had a bad feeling about the entire situation. ‘Not only that, but this situation is getting me on my nerves. These kinds of parties are exactly what assassins love. No one expects an assassin mixed with the guests, and so they can prepare a poisoning and dump the case on someone else. We could end up being dumped several nobles deaths, especially with this damnable thundere of Thundy!’ Robin thought to himself as he groaned.

“Well, it’s not like you dressed down. You still carry that refined look." Thundy said as she pouted.

“It just looks like a journalist outfit, so I can more or less do my supposed job. But in your case, you are screaming: I am a rich brat, come and get me!” Robin retorted, just before Thundy shot a thunderbolt from her fingertips.

Robin’s body started twitching uncontrollably due to the thunderbolt that struck the journalist, as Thundy had a smug grin on her face. But while that happened, Moriarty was walking near Thundy with a wide smile while wearing his usual outfit.

“Oh, it’s a pleasure to see so many known individuals. A bounty hunter of Rivialt, a dwarven genius, and the infamous Robin Arak. A bit more, and I might meet the most dangerous godslayers!” Moriarty said as he smiled at Thundy, clearly feigning not knowing her.

“Well, sir James. It’s a pleasant night, and we were invited to a party at sir Josh’s manor. I suppose it’s the same for you. I hope Moriarty isn’t going to kill someone today.” Thundy said as she smirked at Moriarty.

“Oh, no. You know him better than I do, lady Thundy. He prefers to kill in the house of his target. Easier to clean up, especially if you pay the maids to do the cleanup for you. But in this case, it’s just that I was invited.” Moriarty said as he smiled.

Thundy simply sighed, while Ivy looked at Moriarty with a wry smile. Robin simply shrugged, and kept walking, while Ivy followed him.

“If you are asking yourself why Moriarty is acting like that, it’s because he hides his real identity from everyone, Ivy. It’s a good way to keep the goody two shoes away from him. For the normal people, he’s just a genius mathematician. For the nobles, a messenger of Moriarty. That way, he makes a good gap between his normal life and his job.” Robin whispered to Ivy, quietly, while Ivy looked surprised at Robin.

“But why does he work as a killer?” Ivy asked as she whispered back.

“He has money, but he wants to fund a bloodline so rich that not even the gods can go after them. A lovely irony, right? But also, it’s because being simply a teacher won’t cut it for being a noble. And he wants to ensure his daughter has a good life. Also wants to pull her out of the church of Zerax.” Robin whispered to Ivy, as he replied to her question.

“The church of Zerax is really well known, shouldn’t that be great-” Ivy whispered, as she was surprised of Moriarty’s desire to pull out his own daughter from the revered church.

“Oh, well. Evan could explain that even better than me. Where light shines, you shall find bigger shadows. It is revered, but that doesn’t mean it is sinless. As there’s no sacred side in war nor in life.” Robin whispered back, while keeping an eye around the area.

Ivy looked surprised, while she followed Robin, considering his words as she looked around the area, seeing more nobles going towards the same place while Thundy, Kilsha, and Moriarty followed them.

Below the city, in the sewers of the city, Rubedo was walking towards a massive pitfall from which the sewage water fell as a cascade while being purified by a sort of atmosphere made of pure mana. This atmosphere purified and eliminated all the impurities in the water, as this atmosphere was a clear indicator that below it there was the Underground.

The Underground is a land below the seawater level, made by the gods as a sort of new land for the species they made that wouldn’t fit above the seawater level, made a vast distance from the surface stratum.

As the Underground was so below the surface, it was a perfect place for vampires to live in alongside other species, but it even had its own natural light made from mana gems attached on the top of the Underground that recreated the natural sunlight in some areas while leaving many others in utter darkness for those species that didn’t require sunlight.

Rubedo was going to the Underground for a good reason, until he found someone going up from the pitfall by the very hidden metallic ladder placed on one of the walls of the pitfall itself. This person was a woman with gentle dark raven purple hair, a slim pastel light green body, and crimson red eyes.

This woman was wearing a Victorian red and purple dress which was an elongated V-shaped bodice with sleeves that were tight at the top, but wider from the elbows to the wrist, a black corset below the dress, a black skirt that reached all the way down to the ankle, and crimson heels.

“Okay, never saw a vampire coming right up when an exorcist is around. It’s a first. Climbing a ladder with heels, that is an accomplishment, but one I have seen a few times.” Rubedo said as he looked at the woman.

“Oh, well, you know how life is. Sometimes you have to climb up a ladder.” The woman said as she finished climbing the ladder, as she smiled widely.

Rubedo looked at the woman, and checked her smile. Her fangs were more elongated than the usual vampire, but it wasn’t due to just having big fangs, which led to Rubedo look surprised at the woman.

“Who are you? Noble vampires simply don’t walk alone. Usually, they carry enough vamps to make a cleric want to pray as they are pissing themselves to death. Well, in my case, I would be thankful for the week off I would have after punching the vamps faces in.” Rubedo said as he looked at the woman.

“Suni. Also, I am on a trip for my own reasons. But none I shall divulge to a member of the church of Zerax, while their god is looking at me.” Suni said, while she kept her smile.

Rubedo looked surprised at Suni, as he didn’t believe what she had just said, only to notice a soft wave of holy mana going across the sewers. It felt strange, as holy mana wasn’t produced normally in sewers, which did give some credibility to Suni’s words.

“Okay, you may be right. After all, I find it strange that holy mana is around. But if so: Why hasn’t Zerax struck down any heretic? To ensure that the knights have some job to do? If so, maybe he’s better than we all consider him to be.” Rubedo said as he looked at Suni.

“The noble vampire you are seeking is going to Josh’s party. As I am going there too. For our own reasons, but he’s more of an opponent for me.” Suni said, while starting to walk closer to Rubedo.

“Why are you telling me this? Because, being honest here, noble vampires and the church of Zerax is like asking vodka to not burn when there’s a good amount of fire touching its surface.” Rubedo said, as he blocked the path of the noble vampire.

“For the reason you said right now. You want to off a noble vampire, probably the same one I am thinking about. He is going after the golden child granted the blessing of Ezneas, and also wants to kill Evan. Of course, ideally, the best method to kill someone like Evan is to dump anything you can get your hands on and pray for the best. His solution? Dumping the Bank of Ezneas on him by framing him of the assassination of the blessed child, and then dump all the vampires possible by framing Evan of the murder of the vampire queen’s child.” Suni explained as she turned to mist for a few second to pass over Rubedo.

“And what does that do with me?” Rubedo asked as he raised an eyebrow.

“Well, I know the little secret. So I guess it’s a good idea to work with Evan to take out the competition for my search of the vampire queen’s child, before she ends up too close to the hero, and somehow we have to worry about his countenance.” Suni said as she smirked, and left the area.

Rubedo was left there, surprised by Suni’s words, while looking amazed at the vampire who was leaving. The words of the vampire were exactly obtuse enough to ensure that one wouldn’t guess easily how Rubedo was implicated with Evan, ensuring his safety, but also gave enough to make the red-haired exorcist worry about how much did this noble vampire knew.

“I guess a visit to the Technocratic Revolution is in order. I need a quick method of travel, as soon as possible before the vampire I was going to exorcise causes a mess” Rubedo said as he sighed, and started moving to the door where the Technocratic Revolution territory started.

As Rubedo arrived to the door, a woman with a petite build walked out of the door. This woman had shoulder-length black hair, emerald green eyes, slightly tanned skin that ended right after her hips and shoulders where it became glistening tanned skin with several blue lines going from the shoulder and the hips to the fingers.

The woman was wearing a red and black bodysuit that covered all her body below her neck, which was covered by a solid armor made of mythril, and had a pair of daggers on a pair of sheathes she had on her hips.

The armor itself had a few slits on her wrists (both over and under), her elbows, her knees, her heels, and all over her feet as she used an armor made of mythril plate and all of it was a one piece of armor fused together.

“So, who are you?” The petite woman said with a brash tone.

“I am just an exorcist, who seeks to speak to the Technocracy about an issue that may occur soon and to seek a quick path to the outside.” Rubedo said with a smile.

“Hm. Something tells me you are lying. Most exorcists aren’t this strong, as they focus on the holy skills rather of the CQC. So I might stop you for a bit, until I find out who you truly are.” The woman said as she unsheathed her daggers, which were pitch black with a red gem attached to the pommel of the dagger and several runes engraved onto the item.

“I see, that’s a pity. I said the truth. But if you so desire to fight, then I shan’t be the one to stop a foolish lamb from trying to fight me. I suppose it’ll be good to see how good one of the newest members of the TR is, compared to Sumong. Ah, he’ll be delighted to hear you fought me and survived. Even if I will just let you live for the sake of my own work.” Rubedo said, as he lowered his body, placed his left fist above in a diagonal path to cover his right shoulder, and pulled back his right fist to cover his right side.

“That stance is strange, but will be interesting! By the by, so you know the name of the one who smacks your arrogant face, I am known as Runner!” Runner said as she lowered her stance and got ready to charge at Rubedo.

From this moment forward, the two would start a fight that wouldn’t be seen by many, but the result would become the proof of how powerful the winner was. And it would surprise more than one person, due to the fact that there wasn’t any bloodshed due to this fight.
