Evan went back to the orphanage and went straight to his room to utilize the materials he had now to obtain new skills, without stopping by the chaos that was unfolding in the orphanage that was basically Lillian trying to get Zerana to sit down, so she could brush her fur. Noche had a small inventory of 10 slots that could hold around 1 liter of anything in one of the slots, and that meant that Noche only used 4 slots to store what Evan needed to store.
Noche took out the materials and Evan grabbed them all, looking at them while scowling. He didn't like what he was going to do, like... No one would ever dare to try poison knowingly, and he was going to be that no one.
“With your resistance to poison, this might be a good idea. Obtaining the skills of the slimes and the goblins might be excellent. Even being the weakest monsters, they have exceptional skills like regeneration. It can regenerate your body with a small mp use.” Noche said, as he pondered Evan’s idea.
“Then it might be a good idea to start using them, not that I like it. Also, I hate that I can’t regenerate my eye. My depth perception…” Evan said as he looked down to the floor, dejected by the fact that he couldn’t recover all of his eyesight.
“The mana core will give you mana powers. Like if you ate an elemental.” Noche explained so Evan could understand it.
“Thanks, but it might feel bad.” Evan said as he scowled while looking at what he would have to digest. It wasn’t appetizing at all, that was a fact, and Evan disliked it even more than what someone would dislike it.
“Oh, absolutely. You might die due to the shock, but I am not one to stop idiots from burying themselves. Good luck.” Noche said with a nonchalant tone.
Evan grabbed the vial with the mucus of the slime looked at it and truly preferred to not have to do this, but he already had guessed that the slimes could regenerate body parts. He opened the vial and drank its contents with a disgusted look.
Evan felt his body break down and reform in a few seconds, and his brain was about to burst of so many abilities he was acquiring. But Evan managed to kept himself awake and grabbed the mana core and put it on his mouth and gulped it down and felt like his body was torn apart and kept pushing until he managed to eat all the parts.
But during that moment, a memory of the past came back to Evan. A haunting memory of his childhood, which helped him manage the pain by stoking his anger.
***
Back on Earth, when Evan was no older than six years old, Evan was sent to a chapel each Sunday by his father, Roy Richards. In order to go to mass, and learn about theology and the Christian rites, as his parents were devout Christians, well as devout as someone who just acts as a devout Christian to get votes for their political party.
During those days, he usually wasn’t hit at any moment of the day as he spent entire Sundays in the church since his parents mainly went to mass and then her mother went to work as an actress while his father went to some meetings of the political party.
So for Evan, Sundays were the best days of the week since he didn’t have to worry about being hit for just standing around or for any silly thing their parents thought that he deserved to be punished, which would be for things like talking too loudly or to study too quietly.
But as all good things in the life of Evan, things got to a turn for the worse in no time. The priest ascended inside the hierarchy and had to leave the chapel, and a new priest arrived, which wasn’t anything weird at first.
The new priest, Alvaro Dinovio, was a bald tall man who had black eyes and white skin, who always wore a buttoned up white shirt, black trousers, a white belt with a silver buckle, and black Oxford shoes.
All seemed to go well, Evan learned well and easily managed to memorize most of the scriptures in a few months.
But as the months passed, Evan noticed that a group of tanned women and girls would arrive with scared faces while the priest got too close to them.
These women wore clothes of bad quality, and seemed poor, even some had ragged clothes and jeans. But they always left money to the chapel, which made Evan think that they were really devout at first, and would usually stay at the chapel even more time than Evan would stay. But in the last months, Evan had noticed that something wasn’t right as he focused on the women themselves.
Even at that age, Evan’s talent for analysis shone brightly, as it was engrained within his own being after being hit so many times ever since he could speak. The small shivers they had once the priest got too close, the fear in their eyes, and the attempt of making themselves look small, were enough to warn Evan about the fact that something was going wrong in the chapel he loved so much.
One Sunday, Evan decided to sneak around the chapel around the afternoon. After all, the priest had a tendency of guiding girls inside the underground floor that was located just below the chapel, which was used as a sort of storage room and cellar.
In that underground floor, with black porcelain tiles, and cement walls that made it look grim and dark… Evan sneaked around, looking around the storage area with the countless crates left on shelves and the barrels filled with wine, and he heard small whimpers that sounded like a female.
“Hm, weird… Why there would be someone whimpering here? What are you hiding, priest Dinovio?” Evan muttered to himself as he looked around.
And what Evan found, would be engrained in his mind for all of his life and become one of the reasons why his hatred towards corruption became to be, as he found one of the small girls on the ground with clear marks of abuse on her mark and her white dress being ripped.
“You know what Roy said! Pay or get hurt! If you don’t pay, he’ll have to contact the authorities about your little illegal piracy circle and get the police involved!” The priest, who had a gruff tone, said with an angry tone.
“P-Please! Let us go! We didn’t do anything wrong! It’s all your fault! We won’t talk!” One of the women said.
“But there are proof of what you have done…” The priest said with a smug tone.
“Those are fabricated proof!” Another of the women, a younger one, exclaimed.
“Well, maybe, but Roy has friends in the station. They can just make sure it’s a real one. So might as well keep paying and doing the job.” The priest retorted as he cackled.
Evan wasn’t looking at the priest, but looked at the girl who was sobbing on the ground. He tried to find some way to help her, and ripped his own clothes to make some bandages for the girl, while looking for a way to help her out. But he knew that trying to drag a sobbing girl out of the underground would be next to impossible, as he lacked the strength to do so and her distant sobbing would alert the priest.
“C-calm down, just stop sobbing… We need to escape… Warn the police…” Evan nervously said, trying to calm down the girl.
“N-No… Not the police… We are immigrants, they’ll find out we entered illegally and will end up back to the hellhole one way or another…” The girl said as she sobbed.
Evan was dumbfounded, he had heard of people who immigrated illegally just like everyone else, but this was his first time seeing one of them. Seeking prosperity, they ended up being used as scapegoats for corrupt politicians, and priests.
‘Why do you allow this, God? Why? You left it said in the books… The ten commandments, and the words of Christ… Shouldn’t you have interfered already? Or is this one of your trials? That we have to fix our own nature ourselves? What kind of being allows this suffering after so many years?’ Evan thought to himself, trying to explain why nothing nor anyone stopped this kind of acts on the spot.
But as Evan was thinking, he heard a sound of a whip striking flesh alongside a painful whimper of a female, which made him feel more nervous. Sooner or later, the priest would be done with them and would seek this girl… And once he found the girl, he would know that Evan had been there.
“Crap, what do I do? How can I save them?” Evan mumbled quietly, as he was biting his lower lip in fear. He was awfully aware that if his father learned of this, he’d make sure that Evan would be unable to go to the chapel and the beatings he would feel all the time would increase.
But hearing the whimpers of the women, and the sobbing of the girl who tried to avoid crying, alongside the stress he was feeling due to his fear of being unable to enjoy the chapel, broke his mind. A swift and loud snap was heard inside Evan’s mind, as his sanity was starting to be lost, while Evan looked around for a solution.
As his mind drifted into insanity, Evan saw a crowbar with blood in it, which gave him an idea that would save everyone. Or so he believed, as his mind had lost all common sense and empathy towards the priest.
‘If God won’t do his duty, then someone has to. Evil will be punished, and the false priest must fall. The crowbar, as he used it to hurt others, I shall use that.’ Evan thought as a wicked grin started forming on his face as tears came out of his eyes.
And so, Evan grabbed the crowbar and walked towards the priest. That’s where he saw the bald man without his shirt, as he had pinned one of the women to the ground, using his belt as a whip to hurt the woman he had pinned in order to ensure the cooperation of the rest of the women.
Evan walked just behind the priest, while said priest was focused on the pleasure he felt as he dominated the one he had pinned, only to deliver a strong strike to the left clavicle of the man. This made the priest scream in pain, while the women started running away and took away the woman that was pinned, as Evan looked at the priest with an untold amount of hatred in his eyes.
“London bridge is falling down, my fair lady.” Evan sung as his demonic smile formed on his face for the first time, as his eyes cried and his hands held strongly the crowbar.
Before the priest could use his other hand to strike Evan, another swift strike befell the man. This time, Evan had aimed to the other clavicle, which effectively ensured that the man couldn’t use his arms to hurt others.
Evan simply cackled in delight, as he heard the screams of pain of the priest, and kept striking him until it was clear that the priest had been neutralized.
After that, Evan sat upon the unconscious and bloodied priest and waited until someone found him. It took hours, as the women left and didn’t come back, until Evan’s father alongside a few cops found him upon the priest with the bloodied crowbar.
Evan’s father, Roy Richards, was a tall man with short black hair, hazel eyes, and white skin that was well-maintained since it had that glossy shine that some superstars would have. He wore a brown office suit, with a white shirt below it, a black necktie, brown trousers, a black belt with a white buckle, and black Oxford shoes.
Evan’s father looked worried about Evan, but Evan knew that it was a fake concern coming out of his parent. What he was concerned about was his safety if the police found proof of the priest working with him.
“I caught a bad guy, who was abusing of a few women. I didn’t have a phone, so didn’t call the police.” Evan calmly said, his eyes dead without any sort of light inside, as he looked at the cops while dropping the crowbar.
The cops felt a slight sense of fear looking at Evan’s face, but looked around the area as they grabbed the crowbar, and inspected the false proof while locating some proof of the man extortion. Unluckily, they never found anything that connected Roy with this… As Roy had found the phone of the priest first and crushed it with his foot while sliding a roll of at least 500 dollars to a cop that saw it happening.
The police captured the priest, and took him away, while Roy grabbed Evan and dragged him back to their house. Once they arrived, Roy started punching Evan for disrupting his plans.
“Why had you to interfere with this victimless plan!? Why did you have to bust it, you brat!? It was an easy racket to get money out of illegal downloads for the party, and a way to blame the immigrants for it! Perfect for my party, and so I could easily make a campaign out of it! It would have been an easy campaign without promising much!” Roy said as he punched Evan.
“So, will you allow evil to just get some money? Is this why you cause so much suffering?” Evan calmly asked, not caring about being hurt, as he was too broken inside to feel anything.
“No one suffers. No one of importance, that is! Those immigrants can just be useful for us, and then get kicked out! Let others use slurs to insult them, and even take the business of kicking them out from us!” Roy exclaimed as he punched Evan.
“Mark my words… Better you watch your back from me. One day, you’ll end up like that corrupt priest, and I will laugh at you when that happens.” Evan said with his demonic smile, which made Roy back away for a second out of the scare he had seeing the face.
“You damnable race traitor!” Roy said as he continued punching Evan.
From then on, Evan was never the same. He never saw the women he had saved in the chapel, until he saw them in the news as they had seemingly been killed by cops while eating with his father, who smiled widely at Evan as the news explained clearly that they seemed to be drug addicts. This showed to Evan that God wouldn’t do anything to stop evil acts, and in fact that this world helped evil men like his father.
And so, Evan vowed to never trust anyone easily and to never believe in any god or goddess, as the world was utterly corrupt and molded by the hands of the powerful men and women.
***
As Evan recovered from the memory lane he had gone through, Noche floated around him and seemed clearly worried about Evan, while Evan simply chuckled to himself as his eye looked dead.
“If every time I have to feel this... I start seeing why few people learn it. Few would be insane enough to do this!” Evan said as he scratched the back of his head, and slowly got up from the ground. ‘And a trip to memory lane is never a good one for me… Ugh, I feel so dirty now. But won’t get a shower here. Also, it wouldn’t help with this damned feeling.’ Evan thought to himself.
“And you are the craziest here! You dumbass! No one managed to survive to eat two parts the same day!” Noche exclaimed, showing concern for Evan, which did bring a smile to Evan but in the state he was… It was different.
Evan smiled, but his smile resembled the smile that would do a demon, showing his teeth and giving off a lot of bloodlust. Noche kept his distance from Evan, learning of the insane side of his master.
Evan never told anyone, but one thing that all the friends of Evan knew is that he was beyond insane. He was so crazy that it kicked around and turned him sane and even more wicked, and all of it was caused by his family mistreatment during all of his life.
“Well, thanks for the concern Noche, but let’s focus on the important stuff. Can I learn the abilities of monsters, create my own abilities and modify my body temporarily? I recall someone similar to this power in one story. And after all, he and I are similar.” Evan said as he tried to calm down.
“And you know his name?” Noche asked, as he floated near Evan.
“He was known as the symbol of despair.” Evan replied calmly.
Evan heard some noise in the orphanage and went to see what was happening and saw a pair of tall men with a black hood that covered their faces and a black leather armor. Both men were wielding swords and aiming at Rose and Lillian, which somehow made Evan angry, as Evan started smiling again like a demon. The men felt his bloodlust and while Evan took off his shirt and approached them, they could only try to not fall to the ground as his bloodlust felt like a wave of despair coming towards them.
“Who are you?” The first attacker asked, while he was trying to ensure that his body didn’t shake like a pudding, due to the intense bloodlust coming from Evan.
“I am just a simple child…” Evan calmly answered, while keeping his smile on his face.
“You are not a normal boy! You are a monster!” The second attacker said, as he was completely terrified of Evan.
“Thank you! That is the best compliment I heard in a long time. Now... Shall we begin with the tests? After all, nothing you do will matter... I will do as I please.” Evan said as he felt his own mind drowning in insanity once more, an old feeling he wanted to avoid at all costs due to it being a slippery slope. Once he got the taste of it, it was hard to avoid causing a bloodbath, and he wouldn’t know if he could stop himself this time.
Evan's left arm started turning blue, and after two seconds it totally turned into a sticky arm made of a blue slime. Evan looked at it curious at how it was blue, and then it started to change of color, from blue to purple in a few seconds.
“So I can control its shape, color and make it solidify in around 4 seconds. Fast. I like it. Let's try to change it into something better.” Evan said as he smirked at the sticky arm.
Evan imagined a sword and his arm returned to normal and from his palm, a slime was created that turned into a sword, hardened itself and even crystallized to the point of being an azure sword.
“Oh, look at it! Even I can craft weapons, shoddy as it seems to be... I should try if it can cut.” Evan said as he charged at the first attacker, who tried to hit him but only managed to graze his left cheek.
Evan swung his sword at the first attacker and decapitated him, the first strike cutting halfway and then requiring two more swings to do the job shoddily. The second started praying to the god of light, when Evan looked at him with an even more sinister look as he regenerated from the wounds he had received on his face.
“Eh, works. Shoddy, but it's free. Now, it would be fun if a human cursed the god of light. Also, I believe that I could do some tests with the power of slimes. After all, if I can harden the slime, I can also make it liquid.” Evan said as he smirked and decided to try what he was considering to do.
Evan imagined a liquid that was extremely corrosive, sulfuric acid, and from his remaining palm it sprayed in the body of the remaining attacker and started eating all the poor attacker's armor until Evan saw Lillian getting worried and sent the perfect counter liquid to neutralize the acid, and then he shot a fire bullet in the attacker's head. A clean way to kill, but Evan saw the chances of his newfound powers. He would only have to learn the effects of the liquids or pastes he wanted to do to make them. Like when he had to learn the effects of the monsters to create his own monsters like the replica goblins that replicated themselves once every 2 seconds and when he started thinking about it, he decided to test it out now that he had the skill window unlocked. But first, he ate the souls of the attackers, which again were tasteless.
“Well. Testing is not finished! Create minor undead!” As Evan raised his free hand and aimed at the corpse, while circulating his internal mana.
Then a window appeared and Evan smiled because it showed only the option of the skeleton, but once he touched the option of skeleton, around 100 choices appeared. Evan still had all the effects that he had gained in Dawn World, and now he could craft his own undead army again. Not as powerful as it was before, but he had now the self-replication effect and that was enough to create an army without using thousands of corpses.
Of course, even if he could add the self-replication effect... There were three things that a necromancer required to be truly powerful.
The first thing a necromancer needed was a good amount of good quality corpses. Depending on how the target died, the corpse was of better quality or worse. The best corpses were those who either died naturally or out of exhaustion, which is why Evan tried to either exhaust his opponents back in Dawn World or poison them. If the corpses weren't damaged, it meant that their quality would be better.
The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
The second thing was simply mana, the more mana a necromancer had... Well, the more undead they could produce without having to take time to recover mana. A second-best thing for mana was a massive mana regeneration speed.
And the third thing that was required for a necromancer, and the one that made many think it was a useless skill tree, was time. Monster creation took time, and it could be interrupted, so it was always more of a skill that if you invested lots of time and resources... You could take a massive amount of benefits, just like with all the production skill trees, but the problem laid in the fact that you required massive amounts of time and effort.
But Evan, in this situation, had only a lot of mana which meant that he had to make do however he could with his other skills. After all, that meant that he would have to move cautiously as he formed his army whenever he had a chance to take over Elstivia, but that it wouldn’t be the most important factor for the takeover.

During all the time that had passed, Robin and Ivy had been staying with Gio and Pik while Ivy had her first medical check in her entire life. As Pik finished the check, she made sure that Ivy could rest after the extenuating effort, while she went to talk with Robin with a worried face.
“How is Ivy doing?” Robin asked with a worried look.
“I did the checks, run them twice. I don’t know what the hell the slavers made her do, but her eyesight is stable for now. But sooner or later, it’s gonna be gone. Isaac studied mana back in Dawn World like no one’s business, so probably he knows exactly what is going wrong. The other option is to ask Evan, he knows more biology than even myself… As much as I hate admitting that.” Pik said as she scratched the back of her neck.
“But that would mean contacting Evan and praying for the best. Isaac sounds like a better option. But there must be a solution, Pik.” Robin said as he looked at Pik.
“Well, more than one. The issue is that a lot of mana went through her eyes, and by a lot… I mean enough to fry her optical nerves if it turned into an electrical current. Luckily, it dispersed vastly, but still remains a fair bit that might damage the nerves. If we can disperse the remaining foreign mana, she might keep her eyesight. Thing is, we are not good at that. We never needed such stuff, usually we just used skills to disperse extra mana within us and called it a day.” Pik said.
“And the other options?” Robin asked as he squinted his eyes.
“Well, since it’s less mana, chances are she might just lose enough to have to use glasses. There’s no shame in a girl wearing glasses, you know. And the last option would be to… Mod her.” Pik replied, at first with a calm tone, but once she spoke of the last option… her tone became far more worried.
“Modding her means that we have to take her eyes away, while needing lots of mythril and orichalcum to ensure they work. Yeah, prosthetic eyes are great… Until they fail. That’s why no godslayer ever used prosthetics, at least until now. So, can’t we use panacea?” Robin said with a worried tone.
“You know that the materials used for panacea are not easy to come by, and most are rather taboo. Using one panacea on her would heal her eyes, but wouldn’t disperse the mana. It’s not a curse, it’s raw mana. And panacea does not drive raw mana out, it drives dark mana away since it’s the opposite of the holy mana it has.” Pik said as she took a deep breath.
“Well, true. So our best options are to have Isaac or Evan handle this. And our worst option, modding. But I suppose that after Ivy rests, she will be in the regen pod. I thank you, Pik.” Robin said as a soft smile formed on his face.
“You are welcome, Robin. But she might be a few days in here, since her growth issues are quite hefty. Use that time to find Isaac, so we can try to find a new method to save her. Or if we don’t have another choice, find Evan.” Pik said as she sighed.
“Well, finding Isaac won’t be hard. He is a private eye nowadays, I suppose he doesn’t want to be involved in politics. I just have to go to his office.” Robin said as he smiled.
“Well, good for us. But we have a visitor. And the kind that seems to not take a no for an answer.” Pik said, as a quiet alarm started sounding all across the cave, while giving off a white light that created many shadows on the floor of the cave.
“Goddamnit. Who would want to even try this?” Robin said as he unsheathed his dagger, until he saw a familiar face that stopped his hand.
Before Pik and Gio could even start the defense system, Moriarty appeared from a shadow on the wall made by the light of the alarm. This made Gio sigh and walk towards the eastern wall of the room they were in and pushed a small button that stopped the alarm.
“Why are you here, Moriarty?” Gio asked as he looked at the mathematician.
“I need to kill the elders of light.” Moriarty curtly replied, as he looked at Gio.
“Use petrycole.” Gio said as he simply scoffed.
“The hero almost caught me last time, and my client has asked for a more secure method. And she specified that you could make something to assist me.” Moriarty said, as he lied slightly to just give a hint for Gio to know who could have asked for it.
“Hm. So someone that knows of the godslayers, and someone who knows that I am around. Or maybe suspects that I am around, but knows me enough well to consider that I would hide while David Junior messes up Elstivia and that I would never step in the insanity that is the dwarven country.” Gio said, as he took the bait laid by Moriarty and started considering who was the client this time.
“Well, turns out he had someone else ask the commission, probably because he is biding his time while playing the hero for a fool as he was assisting Saida. Until my intervention, and a lucky bullet, led to Saida’s demise.” Moriarty said with a calm look.
“Evan asked it through a second hand? Instead of killing painfully the one that annoyed him? He must be biding his time carefully, or must have an annoying limitation. Especially if he has a new body. But he would only trust his family to do that. So… Grandine.” Robin said while looking at Moriarty.
Moriarty silently nodded, which made Gio take a deep breath. This made Pik, Robin, and Gio groan while trying to consider what to do. Working with Grandine was a good idea, as that would ensure that Evan wouldn’t get angry at them (not like he would hate them, but better to keep him happy), but also would be annoying since that would put them in the middle of the mess unless they helped in a very distant way.
“Liliette is in danger of being placed as the hero’s spouse. Grandine got me by my weakness, so can you help me with this? I got to kill the old coots of the church of Zerax before she decides to send a report to them talking about Liliette.” Moriarty said with a worried tone.
“Usually I wouldn’t help you, but let’s be honest. The church of Zerax is being too focused on being a problem for us, and maybe some chaos in their own home allows us to move away from it.” Gio said as he pondered the situation.
“Also, having Grandine around means that she’s probably pulling strings or something like that. It’s not like she would be the archbishop, right?” Pik said.
“She is, but Robin…” Moriarty said as he looked at Robin with a serious face.
“Okay, not publishing that new. It’d be my death. But how will we kill the old coots?” Robin said, as he scratched his chin.
“We can get them together, we just need to find a meeting in which they meet and put a timed bomb there. If all is planned well, and Moriarty uses his skills well, no one should find who was the one who planned it.” Pik said as she considered the situation.
“And that’s why I ask for the how and not the why. Leave the placing them together to me. I am a renowned mathematician, and a knight of the arts. Not a real knight of any sort, but still have the title since it was given to me by David Senior.” Moriarty said as he looked at Robin and Pik, who simply looked at Moriarty.
“Ah.” Both Robin and Pik said, surprised of said fact.
“I will get them around by using my prestige to make them have to do one big meeting earlier than expected. I can’t wait six months for this. So I hope you can make the bomb in a week or two, while Robin gets proof of the utter corruption of each of the old coots and publishes it. If this works well, Isaac will be involved in the investigation. And I think you might be looking for him, sorry, but I have sharp ears and while I am not an expert at sneaking inside, I can still sneak inside this place for long enough to catch you off-guard when you are talking about important things.” Moriarty explained, as he smirked.
“That is the only time I will allow you to say that you are more sneaky than me, Moriarty.” Robin warned as he pointed at Moriarty with his dagger, clearly annoyed by his actions.
“Heh. Either way, I will get them together, you handle the how. As of the question of whom’s identity I take: Robin can check some boys I know. All of them are cup bearers, but I warn… Don’t check their extra duties, it’s the same as the Catholic Church at times. Hypocritically sinning away their lives, those old coots.” Moriarty said, as he didn’t even budge at the sight of the dagger.
“Well, you paid me well with that, so I guess I will help. Also, you are helping me with Isaac so… I consider myself satisfied, even when you are such a bastard.” Robin said as he sheathed the dagger.
“Well, with that concluded, I might make myself scarce. Until next week, Gio.” Moriarty said, as he started to be covered by a dark substance that wanted to engulf him.
“Agh, okay! Just go, this will help me later on… So might as well help, even if I hate to do this. I prefer to help the kids in slums, giving them job and the like, not making stuff to kill high standing people.” Gio said as he scoffed at Moriarty.
And so Moriarty left the premises, once the dark substance engulfed him, while Pik and Gio just scoffed once he was gone and started grumbling about how annoying Moriarty had been to them.
