Chapter 5: Legias's Past.

Chapter 5: Legias's Past.

Evan went to a library that was located in the orphanage. It was a big library with many bookcases filled to the brim with books about magic, manners, traditions, culture, and history. The floor was made of floor, just like all the entire orphanage, and had a couple of wooden seats and a small table for those who preferred to sit down while reading. It wasn’t a fancy library, but Evan found himself better in that kind of places rather than luxurious libraries.

As Evan looked for history books, he found a book that surprised him. It had no title and looked like if it was a diary and looked old, Evan started reading and started shivering. Furthermore, it was the diary of the last queen of the elves, and Evan couldn't be more surprised.

“How better to learn history than from the diary of a queen? Won't be bad, and probably will be nice to look at it.” Evan pondered as his mind considered the situation.

“Maybe we shouldn't read it.” Noche said as he appeared near Evan and floated around him.

“I will read it.” Evan said, not caring about the situation at all.

Evan started reading it and already the first page left him shocked. It said: "My elven name is Guinevere, but my true name is Legadonia. My dear son, Legias. Once you learn the truth of that name, maybe you will hate yourself even more than your sister."

Evan knew the name, but he could not even believe that his creations of the game were given a new life in this world. After all, a master of necromancy in the game could create NPC that fought on their own called Homunculus. Evan back then was the best magician of all the game, but because of that, he was followed by many players that wanted to defeat him and close to no allies. So when he learned how to create Homunculus, he created 5 of them and called them his own kids because for him, they were their kids. Specially since he knew that he wouldn't have a partner in Earth. Legadonia was one of them, a primal elf.

Primal elves were extinct but had a control of mana so big that they were the best kind of mages but only could use non-elemental spells and their ability for archery was extremely great compared to the dark elves who in the game were the best kind of archers as far as rankers knew, and they had a characteristic white hair.

Evan decided to bring back one of that extinct race for making a perfect long range fast attacker and made a female just because he wanted. Legadonia was the kindest of the 5 homunculus he did, and yet the fiercest of the homunculus. Legias found Evan reading the diary and looked at him angrily, which was answered with a calm look from Evan.

“Leave my deceased mother diary.” Legias coldly said, as he frowned.

“I have one question. And you will answer it. I need to know the truth. Are you and your mother primal elves?” Evan asked with a serious gaze.

“How do you know about that?” Legias asked, suspicious of the question done by Evan.

“This body... No... This corpse I hijacked... I remember all of my former life before hijacking this corpse. I created your mother. I am Evan, the black flame devil.” Evan said, revealing the truth he was hiding.

Legias looked at Evan, suspicion rising, and his mind started going crazy trying to understand what was truly happening. He thought that the young boy that was there was related to one of the many enemies that his family had made over the course of the years, and in worse case scenario... Related to his biological father.

“Then you will know the names of the homunculus that are her siblings. I know the names.” Legias said, as he looked surprised by Evan’s words, unable to believe what he had heard.

“I will tell you then. The oldest sister is Aniette, yet you probably don't know of her. Then there's Grandine, a succubus with druid and bishop skills and mastered them. Then the brother is Sumeragi, a dark elf who is a samurai and use throwing daggers. And for last, the younger sister, Ruby, a primal dragon, with a talent for the martial arts and infiltration.” Evan said calmly, while smirking at Legias.

Legias looked at Evan, surprised, because that boy in front of him knew even Aniette's name, yet he was smiling. He had found the one who created his mother and could get more information about why the elves hated the primal elves so much.

“What a grateful surprise. Why, they said that I was cursed!?” Legias asked with an angry face, angry at what happened to him and his mother.

“Did you fight using your spells? Or maybe it was because the primal elves should be extinct. You said that she died. How did she die? With a smile? Or she had any regrets or any last will unfulfilled? She lived as she wanted? I want to know what happened for her to die.” Evan asked, considering what could have happened.

Legias looked sad for a moment, and his face showed a guilt that made Evan get angry for a moment before he calmed himself down to hear what happened.

“I only showed a mana blast. But an assassin killed my mother. A man trespassed the castle and found my mother. She was his target after all and later framed me... It was dark, and uncle Sumeragi... He lost one of his arms. My father exiled me and my sister decided to kill me. My sister always hated me... So the fact that I had become a murderer and that she could kill me made her happy. But Lillian saved me while I was running away from Rivialt.” Legias explained, as tears starting flowing out of his eyes.

Evan was looking at Legias with tears made of blood in his eye. He was sad that one of his creations was killed, but he was angry at the fact that she had married a king that possibly killed her just by giving birth to a primal elf. But beyond all that, he was angry at the fact that his creations had been brought to this world just to suffer. His face looked furious, but he made sure to control himself and not show his demon smile to Legias. It was not the time nor the place to let that rage take hold of him, and he didn’t want to traumatize the young elf.

“Thanks.” Evan simply said, controlling his anger. ‘Whoever thought this plan, deserves to burn. You can insult me, but going after my creation is a big no.’ Evan thought to himself, angry at what had happened.

“Finally I learn who exactly you are. Who gave you this chance?” Legias said, thinking about the situation, wanting to thank the individual that granted Evan this chance.

“You will know more of me as time passes. I planned to explain it all someday. Namika saw my death and allowed me to reincarnate in this world. Never expected that my creations also ended here.” Evan said as he smiled at Legias.

“Well, now you have more allies to find. I will go to buy some things that Lillian needs.” Legias said as he started walking out of the library.

“Good luck!” Evan simply said.

Legias left the library, but Evan threw at him Legadonia's diary with a wide smile. Evan felt a sense of pride on someone else, and that was a first for him, yet he didn't mind it that much since he had to focus on getting used to this world and learn more about it.

“Do not forget that! It is your mother diary and the only thing of her that you have. Never lose it.” Evan said as he kept his smile.

“I will. Thanks, Evan.” Legias said as he smiled at Evan.

“Don't dare to call me grandpa. I have a young body, and being called grandpa will just make me feel too old.” Evan said as he looked at the bookshelves of the library.

Legias smiled and Evan started reading history books, to understand in which world he was, due to the fact that it was already too weird that his children were in this world and not in Terra.

But his lack of knowledge around the situation would prove a massive change for Evan, who soon would learn that Namika did trick him in one way that wasn’t really troubling but still was trouble for him.

Legias left the diary in his room and went outside, to the streets of Crelens, but he found someone he did not expect to find. Saida, with a wide smile filled of bloodlust, and Kanbe had found Legias location, and were there waiting for him, but Zerana was looking at them from afar and sneaking around.

“Hi brother.” Saida said as she smirked at her brother, asserting her dominance with her stance as she aimed her staff at Legias.

Legias started glaring at his sister, while Kanbe was looking around the area making sure that the people who walked around the area just avoided trying to meddle with this situation.

“Hello, sister. Didn’t expect you to come to Elstivia. I thought you hated humans, and the stench of the human cities. That said, maybe you are changing your tastes due to the hunk of a boy you found… What would Eden say of this situation?” Legias said, venomous words coming out of his mind due to his wrath, while keeping a fake smile which made Saida look angrily at Legias.

“Can you come with us, Legias? It would make things easier for everyone. This is too important to be handled in a place where everyone could look at us.” Kanbe said as one of his hands went to grab his sword without unsheathing it.

“Why? To die like a dog? What could I expect from a hero, right? To care about ethics? It’s just like how uncle Sumeragi said, you heroes are just lapdogs of the governments.” Legias harshly said as he glared at the hero.

Legias sighed, while cursing himself for forgetting about getting his bow when going out for a walk, and tried to gain some distance by stepping away from Saida to win a few seconds more before the fight broke out.

“Exactly. You are a cursed child. A dog's death is mercy for you. Specially after knowing that you killed our mother!” Saida said excitedly, getting ready to after Legias.

“Draw your blade, sister. I am not going to die when I learned what I truly am. I am not a cursed child, as you say! I am a primal elf! Like Mother.” Legias said as he got ready to fight for his life.

“Yet you killed her. You are just a brat who will turn into a mindless beast. Or worse, a problem for the elves.” Saida coldly said, as she went to grasp her sword.

Saida unsheathed her sword and aimed it at Legias, who was trying to find a bow to use against Saida, but desisted after noticing he wouldn't have time for it.

“Kanbe, stay out of this one! He is mine!” Saida ordered as she felt in an advantageous situation.

Kanbe looked at Saida with a doubtful look, he didn’t want to be part of anything like this, and the princess had given him a good reason to stay out of the fight. So he would take it, while just looking like a man following orders.

It would do better than looking like a bloodthirsty warrior trying to gain more experience by fighting children, and he needed to have a good public image. After all, he would have to travel across the land to find a way home.

“Already planned to. I will only protect you in case of trouble.” Kanbe said, as he regretted having to be part of this mess.

Legias smiled and prepared to fight, in order to survive and be able to avenge his mother, but even then he felt sheer fear of fighting his sister and then having to handle the hero. It wasn’t looking good for him, but he could at least fight until the bitter end.

***

As Legias was going to fight, Ricky was watching the entire situation unfold. He had acquired a job regarding Legias from the archbishop Caroline, which was to keep an eye on Legias and prevent he didn’t die.

But fighting Saida and Kanbe was not in the contract, and probably would have said no to the contract if it had that part added. His job was to prevent Legias’s death, no matter what, and so he just had to interfere when things got too crazy, but he was sure that Legias could survive the encounter as long as the guard didn’t interfere.

“Crap, this crazy princess will be a problem. Well, as long as the guard isn’t planning on interfering, he should be able to survive. But damn, Caroline gave me a crazy job. I should have known that the princess would be a problem, but this is out of my limits. I can mess up with the princess, but not with one working with the hero.” Ricky muttered, in a panic, due to the entire situation. ‘By all Paradiso, why I had to get this job!?’ Ricky thought to himself.

As Ricky was panicking, a short man with tanned skin, long brown hair, black eyes, thick beard, and a scar on his left eye approached Ricky. He was wearing glasses, a black office suit, and black shoes, similar to Ricky’s style.

“Seems like our target is in trouble, Ricky. And more troubles are coming to go after him.” The tanned man said, as he scratched his beard.

“Well, Niko. We are working together this time, as much as I hate it, but this is a mess of your caliber. Couldn’t you just go in, seal the bitch princess inside a reflection of water while she’s fighting Legias, and get Legias out of the area?” Ricky asked the tanned man.

“If weren’t because of the hero, yes. But if the hero hits me, forget about me sealing Saida… I might just kick the bucket. Remember what the stories told about the hero, capable of splitting mountains and all. I don’t want to be in the wrong end of that sword.” Niko said as he looked at Kanbe.

“Then what we can do? Trust in the wolf girl to warn someone who will risk themselves to handle that? If Caroline hears of this, we both are going to be dead.” Ricky said, as he was starting to sweat due to the pressure of the situation.

“Yes, especially since we have an annoying opponent trying to interfere.” Niko said as he pointed to the left side.

An elf, since both Niko and Ricky could see his pointy ears, with olive skin, short spiky black hair with streaks of purple, hazel eyes, and a scar on his forehead that looked like a cross going towards Legias. This individual was black pants with a black belt that had a large golden buckle, a black V-necked shirt that was worn underneath a black trench-coat with golden lining going down the sleeves, and black boots with golden plates to protect his shins.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

As the individual got closer to Legias, a black arming sword appeared on his right hand and seemed ready to attack Legias, still enough far away to make sure that Legias, Saida, or Kanbe could notice him or Ricky’s group. But Ricky summoned his own sword to stop said individual, and clashed with the individual as the swords stopped each other’s attack.

“Well, seems we have quite the rat trying to get some action in the sibling fight, Niko.” Ricky said as he tried to push the individual away.

“By the glory of Kalarae, Ricky. This is already hard enough on its own!” the individual said, as he scowled and pushed Ricky away with a kick.

“Well, I have a duty, only that it contradicts yours, unknown individual!” Ricky said as a ball made of water struck the individual with enough strength to push him away, as Niko aimed at the individual with a wand made of white wood that released a brilliant white light with golden adornments.

“Yeah, we have quite the duty, so you won’t mind us taking you down, right?” Niko said as he threw another water ball at the individual, who dodged the attack this instance.

“So, two on one. Almost fair, for you.” the individual said as he released purple flames from his free hand and threw them at Ricky, who jumped away.

“Damn it! A special skill holder!” Ricky said as he tried to avoid being hit.

“Not a surprise, considering that there are many factions that want Legias dead!” Niko exclaimed as he tried to cast another spell, only to feel like the mana wasn’t reacting to his orders.

“No more spells that can annoy me.” the individual said as he was glowing brightly.

“Anti-mage plus special skill holder. It’s gonna be hard for us, Ricky.” Niko said as he started moving towards Ricky.

“Yeah, but best we keep trying. If we fail, we better die trying. Caroline won’t allow us to get away with our lives if we fail.” Ricky said as he smiled nervously.

“Damn it, I have to defeat Legias before Evan intercedes and makes it impossible. Otherwise, it’ll take a lot of effort to prepare another attempt on weakening that bastard!” the individual said as he charged towards Legias, only to be blocked by Ricky as he dashed to counter the charge.

“You ain’t leaving this soon!” Ricky said as he smirked.

“Damn it, taking care of you two is going to be messy.” the individual said as he tried to use the purple flames once more to try to burn Ricky, only that this time Ricky was faster and slashed the open side of the individual which rebounded as if the individual had an armor which made Ricky’s sword to rebound.

“Enchanted equipment! Those clothes must be done out of monster fabric. Ricky, you’ll have to hit harder!” Niko said as he teleported near Ricky, but the individual teleported a few meters away before Niko could fulfill his plan.

“This one is going to be an annoying fight. Both anti-mage and teleporting skills? Might as well use our best to stall for time. I don’t know who Evan is, but seems like this guy has an oracle or a prophet telling him stuff beforehand.” Ricky said, as he tried to slash the individual, only to get parried by the individual.

As Ricky tried to outwit the individual with technique, the individual was skillfully parrying the slashes that Ricky was doing and countering them with sharp stabs that grazed Ricky’s body and made several light wounds on his body as he dodged all the water balls that Niko was trying to shoot at the individual. It was as if the individual had a sixth sense that warned him of whenever a mage would use a spell, with enough time to dodge it.

“Seems like you are going to be an annoying kind of enemy, but the guard will be here soon. And they’ll assist me, so you better leave before I kill you.” the individual said calmly as he stabbed Ricky, this time making a more grave wound.

“Ugh!” Ricky exclaimed.

Niko saw a few armored people coming and had to make a choice, either stay and fight or hide and avoid confrontation. That’s when he heard a mysterious voice in his mind, and that relieved him, since the news said voice gave were good.

“Don’t worry about Legias, you bought enough time.” the voice in Niko’s head said.

“Well, we can’t run… But we can hide!” Niko exclaimed as he grabbed Ricky, and released a bright light made of mana.

After a few seconds of blindness, the individual that was fighting Ricky and Niko was unable to see them both and started searching for them for a while before he gave up and tried to go after Legias.

Niko and Ricky were hiding inside the reflection of the pool of blood, as it became a subspace made of mana that was bright red.

“Luckily, your refraction prison still works, Niko.” Ricky said as he coughed blood.

“Not for long, though. I can hold a person for fifty minutes, but I can’t hold people for more than five minutes. We will wait until the guard go after the individual, then teleport away. But before that, take a healing potion and a regeneration one.” Niko said, as he gave two vials with crimson liquid to Ricky.

“Yeah, but what about the individual? He’ll bloody kill Legias!” Ricky said, as he started drinking the contents of the vials, and his wounds started to heal quickly.

“I got confirmation via telepathy. The individual’s plans are messed up already. And I am betting on that hope rather than asking to be killed in combat.” Niko said as he took a deep breath, exhausted due to the fight.

“Well, at least we did our best. So Caroline won’t kill us, right?” Ricky said with a wide smile.

“Yeah, and the guard won’t find us here. At least for now.” Niko said as he sighed.

Several guards wearing golden armors arrived at the area, and started investigating it, as they were trying to understand what was going on at that moment. But as much as they tried to find clues, the only thing they found were the water puddles and the bloodstained rocks.

“Well, sir Noxrio is trying to prevent the incident with the elven princess! Scatter, locate those that tried to stop sir Noxrio!” One of the guards said, as the other guards scattered and tried to locate Ricky and Niko.

“Well, we know who that prick is. Noxrio. I will keep that name in my head, maybe the HQ can tell us anything about that man. But he is a special skill holder, that means he’s a VIP.” Ricky said as he watched the guards scattering and seeking him from the reflection.

“Well, best we get close to each other and once we get out of the prison… We are using City Teleport. We will bail out of this city for a day or two. I am sure Caroline can locate us easily nonetheless, but the further away we are from the guards… The better.” Niko said, getting ready for the teleportation spell.

“True enough! We better bail out before this mess hits us directly. But we should probably go to investigate what that prophecy is. I think you know of someone who can help, Niko.” Ricky said.

“Yes, but that’s gonna cost us a lot. And I don’t think the archbishop will like that we are snooping around this mess. It smells of faction fight amongst the members of the church of Zerax. And many have been burned to cinders for getting involved in that mess.” Niko warned Ricky, while preparing the spell.

“I think it’s something bigger than that. And she can’t get mad at us after we risked our neck for this. It’s just the minimum to know whether to bail out or seek the other side and get paid by them, instead of being with Caroline.” Ricky said, as he started pondering the pros and cons of the job.

“Or maybe we can just finish the job here, since we were paid to ensure the princess wouldn’t kill Legias. And we have done that, at least by what we have been informed through telepathy. And I haven’t seen anyone who could use telepathy with the princess, so I have to assume it’s someone in Legias’s side.” Niko said.

“Yes, you are right. Following the contract strictly, we have done the job. But still, better to investigate it. Maybe we get better payment if we start working for the other side after we finish the quest. We are mercs, not saints.” Ricky retorted.

“I have to admit that you give a proper reasoning over your retorts. But we both know it’s because you have a sweet tooth, and you need the money to satiate that sweet tooth of yours.” Niko said, taunting Ricky, as he grinned.

“Oh, like you are any better. You only pick jobs you know you are not going to work hard, so you can buy more books to learn new spells.” Ricky said, as he looked hurt by Niko’s taunt.

“Well, it’s called investing.” Niko retorted.

“Investing in new magic? For that, invest in real estate and retire! It’s cheaper and has less risks than running missions! With the amount of magic you have been learning, if Falco wasn’t that much of an annoyance, you could have been an archmage and gotten your own position in a fancy college! Which brings the question: Why didn’t you use stronger spells!?” Ricky retorted back, as he looked angrily at Niko.

“Because he could nullify spells, Ricky! It takes longer to prepare a better spell as precisely as I do!” Niko explained, as he had done so a million times, the situation to Ricky.

“Well, whatever. We need to bring our A game for the next mission. What would happen if people didn’t trust us because one punk stops us!? Think about it more, or start investing in real estate!” Ricky exclaimed, as he got close to Niko.

“Okay, you are right in that part. I tried to be the most efficient one of the two, but I only managed to save your life. Don’t thank me for it.” Niko said as he scowled.

“Yeah, right. Either way, get ready for the jump. It’s not like we can do more, right now.” Ricky said as his body started to be pulled towards the outside of the reflection.

“I know!” Niko said as mana started pouring out of his body and jumped to grab Ricky’s left arm to make sure Ricky was included in the teleport.

As both Niko and Ricky came out of the puddle of blood, the guards saw them and started trying to surround them, but Niko waved his wand with one swift motion and a blue bright light coming out of Niko enveloped both Ricky and Niko as they both were teleported to another city while preventing anyone to get a good look at their faces to prevent being prosecuted.

The guards didn’t see anything, but they had an idea to go ask the orphanage that was near the area Ricky and Niko fought, only to see how a black sphere made of mana fell and covered everything in a thick smokescreen made of black mist. But this black mist was made of mana, and had a special property added by none other than Noche, as it was a spell variation known as Cursed Smoke, and it made every single guard to go berserk on their companions.

“You know, this is proper villainy. Also, better to leave Lillian out of this. It would be too annoying if she had to get worried by Legias thanks to these fools. So yeah, fight each other until you knock each other out. By the time you recover your senses, all the traces of the spell will be long gone, and your testimonies will be considered as invalid due to being affected by some sort of drug. This way, Evan can focus on what matters.” Noche said as he watched the entire group of guards beating each other with their fists, as they had lost all reasoning.

And so Noche stayed there, enjoying the chaos he had caused with his own spell, but making sure no one saw him to prevent anyone from saying that one of the children was the dark lord, as it would be a massive setback for Evan’s plan.
