Evan was getting ready to go meeting Caroline and Lillian seemed a bit worried about the safety of Evan. After all, he was the former prince of the kingdom, and surely the attackers would be aware that he might have survived. Not that he wouldn't be ready for it, since he was sure that even if the king had prepared all... Well, two attempts on the life of a prince were too many to not get heavy fire from the populace.
And that that was what Evan was expecting already. His plan to go to meet Caroline was simple if he could get his body restored and if she was Grandine it would mean that any attacker that attacked him was a dead man even before he could have a chance to attack Evan.
They both went outside and started walking around the city and saw many slaves that were going to be exported to another kingdom. Lillian looked worried about the slaves, and Evan couldn't blame her. After all, this could happen to Rose and the others if no one did anything to stop it. But Evan was already planning to prevent that from happening, even if his plans were in their preparation style.
“Poor people... Being sent to another kingdom as slaves…” Lillian muttered as she looked at a massive line of people walking with steel collars on their necks as they wore rags.
“The people of this kingdom is happy with this, no? If that's so... Vox populi, vox deis.” Evan said as he heard Lillian’s muttering.
“What that means?” Lillian asked as she looked at Evan.
“The will of the people is the will of the gods. If people dislike slavery, then a good king should abolish it. But if people want it: Why should a king abolish it? While my plan when I get to the throne is that... I know that a revolution without the people is not a legitimate one.” Evan explained, as he was already forming a plan in his mind to take over Elstivia seeing Lillian’s reaction.
“A revolution?” Lillian asked once more, not understanding what was going on.
“Yes. I had already planned to tell you what I guessed. In the age ceremony, we will be given a job. Guess mine. Dark Lord. The guards will attack me at the first second they find out.” Evan replied as he walked calmly alongside Lillian.
“But if you prepare for it and let the people do a revolution... You can escape and make it out! That's quite the brilliant plan!” Lillian said, as she smiled, since she would be safe from the dangers of having helped Evan if he just escaped.
“No, that would be stupid. That would mean leaving without a kingdom, without a safe place to be. I would die in some months. Especially with the hero already summoned. He may be weak, but he can go through power leveling or power of friendship in worst case scenario. For that reason, instead of running away... I will conquer Elstivia. It's a big gamble at first, but if that one pays off, it's a good win.” Evan said as he smirked, knowing that there was a chance he could actually pull off the conquest of Elstivia. ‘Also, with that fool of Kanbe… Might as well get a rather thick meat wall between us both, it may stop the hero from getting my head.’ Evan thought to himself.
“That will be impossible.” Lillian quickly said, as she dismissed the idea of Evan conquering the country.
“Like defeating a level 20 magician while being a level 1 with a broken body! I already did the impossible. We only need to prepare well. And we have the advantage of time. Either way, in 4 years you will die. Remember what you told me: The Pope will kill you for helping the Dark Lord. I don’t think he’ll buy any excuse of you being forced by a six-year-old brat to do his bidding. So either way, you are in this. If you want to live, you will have to work with me.” Evan said as he looked at Lillian with his smirk.
“I see. After all, my only hope is that you conquer Elstivia. I really don't like this situation.” Lillian said, with a clear grimace that showed how much she was scared of the execution outcome.
“Neither do I, but yes, that's your situation. For that hope to be real, I have to find allies. After getting my body fixed, I should start searching for allies and information about my targets. Also, getting some levels and obtain some more skills will be a good idea. The monster devourer will be useful for this objective.” Evan said, as he tried to recall what the monster devourer skills were back on Dawn World, only to notice it did not exist, and it was a new kind of skill.
“You are truly a devil, just like the stories about you said.” Lillian said as she scowled.
Evan raised an eyebrow while looking at Lillian, only to start laughing right after a few seconds of looking what she had said. There were stories about him in this world, which meant that they had records of him. Were there others like him, or it was because this Terra was the world of Dawn World? Maybe it could be even both, seeing that the summoned hero could someone from Earth.
“You doubted that? I am the worst devil that you have ever faced. And I will have a good time manipulating those who will be of use for my plan to get the kingdom.” Evan announced as he smirked.
“Only to save yourself? I may be innocent, but not stupid. You are doing it for the other kids and the irony that you, the one who has the corpse of the former prince who was betrayed by his own brother, kill the traitor and control this kingdom.” Lillian said, managing to understand what Evan was thinking.
Evan chuckled while being somewhat surprised that the innocent nun had caught the reasons why he wanted to conquer Elstivia. For him, living or being killed wasn't much of a bother, even if he would not allow the latter to be easy at all. But he learned to live while enjoying life, doing what he saw as correct and sometimes being petty enough to go for the irony.
“Sometimes you are too smart.” Evan said as he scoffed.
Lillian and Evan kept going to reach to Caroline house, and they saw the house that was the place which Archbishop Caroline called home.
Outside the manor, there was a big garden filled with trees, flowers, and bushes. There were many guards patrolling the manor, but Evan saw their eyes glow with an azure aura and knew exactly what they were. They were mana golems with humanoid form but completely resistant to physical attacks and even more effective than the human guards, but they could be stopped easily with spells or crushing their mana cores that constantly used mana to keep the mana golems active.
Caroline was smart enough to be ready to greet Lillian, so when she heard a knock on the door and went to greet her friend only to see Edward Leonhard, but he was totally different from his usual self. Edward was a shy boy, who would always tremble in front of everyone and always apologized for anything. This Edward was smiling like a demon and was extremely excited about meeting her, and that made Caroline turn pale.
“Hello, Lillian. And welcome to my humble home, Prince Edward.” Caroline said as she tried to smile nervously. ‘Goddamnit, Dad! You found my little duckling, and probably know what I had planned for her! What’s wrong with nurturing a cute nun to be a minx!?’ Caroline thought to herself as she cursed the fact that probably the boy was her father.
“Call me Evan, Lady Caroline. After all, Edward Leonhard is dead. But you know this, no? After all, you hoped to see a young man, innocent, decent looking and with a strong faith in the gods. But you got pale when you saw me.” Evan said as he smiled like a demon. ‘Do you think I can’t recognize you with a glance, Grandine? I made your body, don’t think I won’t recognize the curves nor your mannerisms.’ Evan thought, as he was starting to notice the plan that Caroline had with Lillian. Which did explain many things regarding how Lillian acted, and made him want to smack Grandine
Caroline trembled in fear, while looking at the boy. She was sure that boy was her father, not the young prince she had seen a couple of times. And she knew that Evan would be harsh on her, with all the disaster related to Legias and Legadonia while she had to play nice. Well, not entirely nice remembering her feasts on the youngsters of the church, but she planned on covering it under the necessity clause.
Evan had read her thought process like any father would read their children thought process, and knowing that she was planning on trying to trick him.
“Seems that death has given you a lot of insight, Prince…” Caroline said as she shivered in fear.
“Can we stop this charade, Grandine? I want to restore my body, recover my eye and get on with my plans. And if you don't recognize me now, I will be disappointed in your intelligence, my dear child. Also, I know you noticed that it’s me.” Evan said as he scowled.
Caroline understood everything now. Evan was angry and grumpy, which meant that he was getting desperate and that meant one thing: He did have a plan, but not enough data to enact it. Which meant that Evan had a purpose and a target, but not a clear path to both, and that was worrying for the young succubus. Also, she didn't want to kill Lillian who probably knew way too much, knowing Evan's usual procedure.
“But what about... Lillian? I don't want to kill her.” Grandine said as Lillian looked surprised at what Grandine said.
“That's the neat thing. You don't have to. She is more filled in than you right now. I have a hell of a predicament right now. Can we get in, dear?” Evan said as he looked with a serious look at Grandine.
“Yes! Pass! I will prepare some tea!” Grandine said, as she moved inside the house, to go fetch her tea set.
“And prepare yourself. Because there is a lot to explain, young one!” Evan exclaimed as he thought that Grandine tried to sneak way.
Grandine shivered and went fast after her tea set, she knew that Evan wouldn't accept cheap explanations. And that she could easily get punished, but that part didn't affect her too much since it could be far worse. He could use his inventory, take out the albums of her younger days and embarrass her in front of her friend.
Evan and Lillian went inside the house and sat down on a pair of chairs made of wood. Evan was angry and tired already, while Lillian just could sigh out of the realization that her best friend was a succubus. That said, it did explain why the archbishop usually tried to play matchmaker with men that surprisingly were blessed with great bodies.
“So you were right. My best friend is a succubus. Wonderful!” Lillian said as she tried to understand the information she was sure of.
“And we are in so much trouble…” Evan said, as he had more worries seeing Grandine around, but without her retainers.
“Why?” Lillian asked, trying to keep the realization she had arrived before way beyond her mind.
“First, Legadonia is dead. Later, Sumeragi may be in deep trouble! And my dear Ruby! Don't even get me started! Since I have reincarnated here, I have only heard bad news and 2 good news! And one of them is that Legadonia had a child, and the other was that Grandine is alive! This is already worse than my first raid! And I almost died 100 times in that one! But well, this is nightmare mode I guess... No death allowed and danger everywhere!” Evan said, unable to keep his worries inside his mind.
“I see…” Lillian said as she waited. ‘And nothing to say about your daughter trying to set me up with all kinds of boys, and have me being like an adolescent succubus?’ Lillian thought to herself, still imagining how Grandine’s plan would end.
Caroline finished preparing the tea and went to pour it. Evan smiled and Lillian started trembling, knowing what Evan would say, due to her fear of how her friend would react to that.
“I am the Dark Lord.” Evan calmly informed.
Caroline took a deep breath, and smiled widely due to the fact Evan didn’t learn about her deal with Namika. That was like the usual with her father, especially with his ironic luck, so it was natural for him to not have that thought even as a fleeting thought. Having a karma value of -9 millions, which probably made a tyrant look like a saint in comparison, equalled to having an ironic luck that made her father have more problems than usual.
“Seems normal that you are the Dark Lord, father.” Grandine said as she smiled. ‘And better that you don’t learn why. I don’t want you tying me up for making a deal with Namika because I needed your help to save the family.’ Grandine thought to herself.
“Now, now. I need you to fix this body and tell me where your brother and your sister are. And yes, I met Legias. And Saida. How in all hell did you allow that Legadonia got assassinated? HOW?” Evan said as he scowled at Grandine.
“Well, first, I will answer the second question. Sumeragi was there to protect her as a bodyguard. But the king of the elves, Katas... Paid the best assassin in Elstivia, ‘Ice Blade’ Mina. Didn't expect her to go through our defenses, through the Sunken Guardians, and through Sumeragi. She isn't that high level, she just has a lot of high level equipment, so it was pretty much impossible. She has now 18 years, cut the right arm of Sumeragi, killed Legadonia and framed Legias. I managed to extract Sumeragi and Legias from the mess. I don't know what happened to my sister's Sunken Guardians, so I keep my entourage hidden away to prevent whatever had happened to my sister's entourage from happening to mine. I am rather sure they are sealed, but I don't want to test that out.” Grandine explained, as she tried to avoid letting Evan know anything that could put her in trouble.
Meanwhile, Lillian thought it would be the best idea to just stay silent and take the tea as she tried to not imagine her best friend planning more debauched ideas for her.
“Obviously, don't even consider it! You are a support build, without them ready to defend you... Even a ranker could kill you! That said: That bitch of Mina did that... I know who I will grab and stab with a cane! One with rusted metal and without a spike to make the stabbing more painful.” Evan said as he was grabbing the tea cup and started sipping.
“And that's not all... Sumeragi had a girlfriend…” Grandine nervously said, trying to make herself look small to avoid angering Evan.
“That had makes me angry. I am about to misuse my hand on someone's face. And because I can't use my mace, because if so... I would be misusing it on someone's backside. You know, that’s one of the reasons why I hate having my inventory sealed. Another is because I kept a lot of status growth items inside it that would make me almost impossible to defeat!” Evan said as he started to smile like a demon.
“She is now the Queen due to King David power. He literally forced her to marry him!” Grandine quickly said as she found a way to focus Evan’s anger elsewhere.
“More reasons to kill my supposed brother. Wonderful! More legitimacy. And Ruby?” Evan said as he looked at Grandine.
Grandine coughed lightly, and shivered while looking scared of how her father would react to her youngest sibling situation. If he was here, requiring a body fix... It meant that it would take a while to be fully ready again to attack people without any care. Which meant that his anger would fester, and he would be even more ruthless than back in Dawn World.
“You will not believe me... She is in prison.” Grandine said as she chuckled awkwardly.
“What?” Evan asked as he was dumbfounded. ‘If it was Aniette, if she somehow managed to recover from her ailment, I would say “Okay.”. But it’s my cutest and most innocent child, the one we are talking here! Did Grandine corrupt her? No, she wouldn’t. Probably a fucking rule in any of the countries that got her as a criminal. Well, that country will burn for it.’ Evan thought as his mind was going out of control.
“Dragon Prince Cain fell in love with Ruby. She declined him several times, and he ordered the guards of the Dragon Kingdom to capture her and keep her in prison until she changed of mind.” Grandine explained, as she started to sweat, knowing this would be a bad idea.
Evan smiled like a demon who had gone mad and started laughing maniacally. Grandine started running and went in search for a cover. She knew that her father's mind had a switch, and that last new had hit him enough hard to make that switch go from calm to psychotically angry. Few times Caroline had seen him psychotically angry, but knew that if that wrath was left to pester... It would end up in a pile of corpses and a country burning to ashes, and that was if Evan was in a good mood the day he chose to attack Cain.
“I am going to put them all in an iron maiden! All of them! With small spikes made of rusted iron and with aphrodisiac enough to put in heat an entire pack of elephants! And with anti-coagulation agents! Several gallons of that stuff! To kill them all! Just four bloody years! Four years until I can send them all to hell!” Evan said as he lost his mind.
“Calm down, Evan... At least they are alive.” Lillian said as she shivered in fear due to the outburst that Evan had.
“Bad idea…” Grandine said, as she feared that Evan would just shoot at Lillian for even considering the idea of trying to calm him down.
Evan calmed down a bit, and looked at Caroline with a serious face. On one side, this calmed Caroline. On another, that meant that Evan wouldn't give her time to get ready for a body reconstruction.
“Yes... But now we will focus on the important things.” Evan said as he sighed, his head was hurting due to his outburst.
“Oh no…” Grandine said as she feared that Evan was going to be hyperactive.
“Restore my body! Later, we have to start planning. I have leveling to do!” Evan said as he smiled like a demon.
“For what? What are you planning?” Grandine asked as she feared that Evan was going to go after David already. ‘You are not going to fucking commit regicide already, right? You may have calmed down, but I am sure you are still just boiling inside. I don’t want to deal with a mountain of corpses and several headless goats going around the church. I know how you can go off, old man!’ Grandine thought to herself as she was already imagining Evan storming inside the castle and just committing regicide by shooting a surprise fire bullet at David. The worst was that it would work, and then he would start doing even worse things to desecrate the corpse or what the godslayers called teabagging.
“My revolution.” Evan answered as he kept his smile. ‘It’s not like I can just storm the castle, as much as I would love to. Also, this might be for the best. It’ll be ironic, a kick in the nuts for David, and best of it… I am making my army of undead once more. Having a country and people to lead might be annoying, but maybe I can just get some nice benefits. That said, I want to use headless goats on a religious area.’ Evan thought to himself.
Evan looked at Caroline, and she started smiling warmly at her father. She was afraid that Evan would have become a totally changed man, but he had not changed at all, for better or worse, and in fact he had a better control over his wrath. Back on Dawn World, he would have already conquered Elstivia and probably would have burned the capital to the ground. And to not count the fact he would salt the earth on Crelens for David’s actions, which would be a lot of salt used for one city.

In a small camp placed outside Crelens, in the midst of the forest, a group of dwarven refugees was trying to survive in the forest while being chased by a group of nine green and bald humanoid beings of the size of a child. They had pointy ears longer than a horse’s ears that were wielding stone daggers, and were wearing only a bunch of rags that covered the nether regions.
These green beings were one of the most cunning monsters in the world of Terra, the goblins. While they were weak, they were agile and cunning, which turned them into a hard monster species to defeat by novice adventurers but also one that few would go against willingly. Many arrogant adventurers had found their end at the hands of these goblins, due to their cunning traps and ambushes.
While the refugees had more clothes, they didn’t have weapons nor any kind of bodyguard, and so the refugees could only run away until they found themselves a massive man of 2 meters and 70 centimeters who was wielding a massive spear of 3 meters, made mostly of wood but had a tip made of a pure white tip that was a small blade made of a sort of special material.
The man was bald, but had black brows, brown eyes, a tanned skin with a few tattoos going from the neck down, and a few stitches on his head. He was wearing a black vest with golden stripes that made an X shape across his torso, a silver collar that covered his neck, golden gauntlets that covered the arms of the man, golden and black pants, and black boots.
The man simply observed at first as a small dwarven child, a female, ran towards the man with a ragged red dress and with bleeding feet because her flats had broken due to the travel she had been enduring. But then the child fell in front of the man, and looked up in fear, as the man simply looked how the other refugees tried to escape the goblins.
“Please, sir, save the refugees! I will pay you with everything I have, even you can take me as a slave! But don’t let us die! My mommy and my daddy are there, trying to save others!” The child pleaded to the man, who gripped the spear strongly, as he seemed to have many things in his head.
The man was remembering the words of the one who created him, which taught to repay kindness with kindness but also to help those ready to give up everything without asking for a reward, and so he quickly dispatched one of the goblins with a quick thrust of the spear that pierced the goblin’s throat.
“Very well. It’s not like that goes against the plan.” The man said as he swung the spear to throw the goblin corpse to two goblins to pin them down.
The other goblins noticed the man, and started trying to run away as the man sighed. The goblins could detect clearly that they were outmatched now, unlike before, and that they would find death if they didn’t run away.
But as the goblins were running away, the man moved forward and released 8 quick thrusts that finished the remaining goblins by stabbing through their chest.
“Done. They are dead. Go calm your comrades, as I hold no intention to ask for a reward.” The man calmly said as he moved with the bloodied spear towards the forest, to seek if there was any other goblin hiding in it.
The dwarven child could only see the man go, as she ran to reunite with her parents, while Rubedo was watching from afar, and rushing to the man’s side.
“Rubedo, you know better than trying to just watch. Wouldn’t it have assisted you to save them?” The man said.
“Yeah, in the short term. In the long term, it was better to let them fight them off or have you do this, Benkei.” Rubedo said as he smirked.
“Lord Evan taught us better than to do that, Rubedo.” Benkei said with a scowl on his face.
“Yes, but it was a situation where I didn’t need to interfere. Hence, I didn’t. I am not a hero, after all. Just a man who follows the will of the one who burns gods.” Rubedo said, as he placed his hands together, as if he was praying.
Benkei sighed and decided to just sit down on a large rock he had found, to recall his memories of his time with Evan.

Ages past, way before the reincarnation of Evan, in an era in which many people called the world they lived in Dawn World. The past Terra, back in the godslayer era, in the times when gods would summon individuals known as players that would be able to customize their bodies and use all kinds of species to become supreme in the world and would treat the world as if it was a game.

It was the middle of a funeral held in a meadow away from any city, in which countless villagers had gone outside a city to set the one they were mourning on fire to prevent the deceased from rising up once more, Benkei and Rubedo were accompanying a younger Sumeragi with both of his arms in perfect state, and he looked like he was seven years old, as he had gone to mourn the dead alongside his family but decided to stay a bit longer to see all the process.
As the two bodyguards were recently created, they didn’t understand why they held this ceremony took place, until a young man of one meter and sixty centimeters with black curved horns, white hair, pale skin, and purple eyes approached them.
This man wore a black set of robes with intricate golden lines across the sleeves, a pair of black shoes, and a pair of golden bracers that covered his wrists.
“They begged me to support this ceremony, even being ready to give me everything.” The man calmly said.
“Yet you chose to not take even a coin for this, my lord. Why?” Rubedo said as he looked at the entire ceremony, as the bonfire was being made to surround the corpse while burying it in firewood.
“Because they were innocent people, ready to give up everything to help another people. If I had asked for a reward for this, I would have to be considered the greatest hypocrite.” The man said as he chuckled.
“You were asked to perform a job, so no one would be angry for you taking a reward for said job, Lord Evan.” Benkei retorted as he looked the ceremony taking place.
“But I would be taking advantage of kind people. Repay kindness with kindness, my Sunken Guardians. I gave you these bodies, so you could protect and guide my children once I am gone. To do what they can’t do. So, remember my words. Innocent and kind people must be assisted, even if you don’t get a reward, because they are the ones who deserve kindness. But those who corrupt and hurt innocents just for the thrill of it, they are better off dead.” Evan explained, as he simply stood there and watched how the bonfire was being set on fire, while several massive skeletons of two meters of height that were wearing heavy golden armors and massive pure white swords slowly moved to protect the entire area.
“The Royal Guard skeletons are taking their time… Wouldn’t it be better to use Dullahans, my lord? I apologize for my doubts, but… A more mobile force would be more suitable for an army.” Rubedo asked as he looked at Evan.
“Good idea, but you missed the entire point of my armies. They are not a frontline because they can handle hits. They are frontline because they are bait, a strong bait to force out the powerful spells and then use the mana signals to have our liches bombard the enemy into the Stone Age. And since the RGS can handle the hits like no one’s business, effectively lowering the damage taken to less than one percent of their total health points, we can have them push forward slowly to pressure the enemies into either flanking and trying to attack behind the frontline… Or effectively running away. In any of the two cases, the goblins and the wolves will undoubtedly counter the flank and assassinate those not ready for well-equipped goblins or bothered by the ambush itself and allow the liches ample time to shoot down the enemies.” Evan explained as he pointed upwards, as several flying skeletons wearing black robes and wielding massive black staves that were merely an iron stick with a massive black orb attached to the top of it.
“I see, my lord. But what if there are fast enemies amongst those that would attack us?” Rubedo said as he worried about the safety of Evan.
“First, they have to dodge a barrage of magic attacks. Second, I am not that weak. Third, you two are around to assist in case of an attack. Fourth, if I notice one of that kind of enemies, I would assist with the bombardment.” Evan replied as the undead in his employ moved forward and surrounded the area where the ceremony was taking place.
As the ceremony was taking place, having the villagers giving their last goodbyes to the deceased and praying for the deceased’s wellbeing in the afterlife, a group of humanoid beings that were different humans and other races formerly alive walked towards the ceremony. The numbers were way beyond a million, which got a few villagers worried, until a lich flew above the horde and released a massive ball of fire to the entire horde and eliminated 30 of them with that sphere’s explosion.
As that happened, the other undead under Evan’s command went towards the zombies and quickly dispatched them in what could be considered a bloodbath.
“See? I don’t even need to raise a finger. They are weak, but well, corpses. New corpses equal to new troops. Who said I am not getting benefits? Only that they are not coming from the villagers.” Evan said, as Rubedo and Benkei looked dumbfounded.
That said, that zombie attack was just the opening act of a tamer who was going with a guild that aimed to extort the villagers and what happened there was known as the bloodbath of the Red Pepper guild. An historical tale, out of thousands, of a bloodbath done by one necromancer and his undead army.
That said, all of the historical tales of necromancers in the Dawn World era were tales of ‘Black Flame Devil’ Evan.
