Chapter 14: Troubles are in the air.

Evan arrived at the gates, but he was stopped by two guards who had a pure silver armor with an emblem of an eagle flying and a helmet that did not cover the eyes and the mouth of the guards, one having blue eyes and the other having black ones, alongside a sword that laid on their waist. The armors that the guards used were releasing a subtle amount of mana that most wouldn’t detect, but it was easily detectable due to the high dexterity and intelligence that Evan had, which was a signal of enchanted equipment.

The armors of the guards were enchanted, a process in which a specialized expert used mana to give new properties to an item, and they seemed to be enchanted to withstand fire spells quite easily and withstanding magical attacks better than if they were just normal.

This clearly annoyed Evan greatly, since it was another stop that he did certainly not need, and that could mess with his plans way before than what he had expected. One bad encounter with the guards could carry issues for his future plans, and he didn’t want to deal with that after dealing with a slaver as he had done before.

At first, he had only seen the blue-eyed one, who was approaching him quickly with quite the stern gaze. Evan wasn’t intimidated by that gaze at all, it was something natural for him and in fact he found it soft. In his home, that gaze was merely the usual morning look that his father would give him every single morning.

“Why are you trying to leave?” The blue-eyed guard asked Evan, as he was going to interrogate him.

“I want to go training my skills.” Evan calmly replied, not giving in to the intimidation attempt of the guard.

“A kid like you!? Training!?” The black-eyed guard exclaimed, before starting to laugh.

“Yes. I have 500 points in intelligence, so I really don't advise to try to stop me.” Evan said as he took a deep breath. ‘If they are going to keep being this annoying, might as well try to kill them.’ Evan thought to himself, thinking about how to eliminate the guards quickly and then dispose of the bodies, as he was considering to try to use some slimes, if they still existed on Terra.

“And? We are better equipped.” The blue-eyed guard said as he looked proud of his equipment.

Evan looked at the armors and chuckled to himself, this was going to be a gamble but a simple one. Yes, both guards were clearly well-equipped to deal with mages with 500 points in intelligence, but that didn't mean that they were even remotely ready to stop him without going for the kill, which could be a dangerous gamble, but one he was open to try.

“And? I can pierce that armor. Now, open the gates.” Evan ordered as he glared at the black-eyed guard.

“We won't open it!” The black-eyed guard said as he stubbornly crossed his arms, waiting for Evan to give up and move away.

“Then you give me no choice. I will ask only once more. Open the gates. If you refuse, you will have to become my practice targets.” Evan said as he closed his eyes, going for an intimidation while he pondered the entire situation and simulated several courses of action he could take to deal with them.

While the guards were about to answer no and Evan was getting ready to kill both guards with a heart crush and a fire bullet, which was a huge gamble since there were a handful of skills that could mess with heart crush, a tall woman with pale skin, long blonde hair, purple eyes, a scar in her left eye and well-endowed who was wearing a golden dress with a short skirt and a pair of golden heels looked at Evan and decided to interfere.

“Let him go. I give permission to him to get in and out of the capital as he wants. But at a price.” The woman said as she looked at Evan with a smirk.

This woman's interference clearly surprised Evan, who kept a close eye to the woman herself who looked more curious about Evan than anything else, and decided to bite and see the deal.

“Which is?” Evan cautiously asked, as he scowled. ‘This will be a huge loss for now, but well… I suppose I will have to work out some trick to make it a positive situation for me.’ Evan thought to himself, as he wanted to kill those guards for forcing him to do that.

“You shall give me all the materials you obtain. I will give you an item box, some empty bottles, and a knife to handle the corpses.” The woman said as she smiled widely.

“I will do a different deal. I will give you all the materials if you give me half of your profits. I know someone that might know about the prices of materials. So don't trick me.” Evan said, as he planned a different course of action while making a counteroffer that would look like an acceptable offer.

“I shall never do that. Tricking you would bring me troubles and bad reputation. A merchant’s lifeblood comes from trust, and cunning. I would never outright trick you and end up being called a merchant that tricks children.” The woman said, as she looked slightly offended by Evan’s remark, which made Evan take note of her reaction.

“Then you have a deal. But let me introduce myself. My name is Evan.” Evan said, to introduce himself to the merchant.

“My name is Amelia. A pleasure to meet you, Evan. And you do good deals.” The woman said as she walked closer to Evan.

“Maybe we can change the deal to a more suitable one someday, depending on the situation.” Evan said, as he crossed his arms, showing that he wouldn’t go for the usual handshake.

“I will look forward to it.” Amelia said as he started rummaging inside her own inventory, which was done by opening a sort of portal with mana that led to the inventory of the person and would look like someone was cut in half whenever half of their body passed through said portal, as she found the small dark gem she was looking for.

Amelia grabbed a small dark gem, that looked like a piece of obsidian, and put mana into it. This made the obsidian to shine with a dark aura, and opened a dark portal in front of Evan and went through it. After a few seconds, she came out of the portal with a knife with a leather sheath and a leather bag and gave them to Evan. Evan looked at the obsidian and the portal, surprised by them, since both gave him a feeling that it was something made by Namika. This entire situation felt like if Namika had been pulling strings on all the situation, and that made Evan feel like if he was a puppet, something he clearly disliked.

‘I hate this situation, feels like Namika has planned it… Is she driving me to a situation in particular? A trap, maybe? Who knows, but we both are using each other for our own plans. I just hope I haven’t reached the end of my utility so soon.’ Evan thought to himself as he moved towards the gate.

The guards looked amazed at Amelia and opened the gate to allow Evan to get out of the capital. Evan went outside and saw a field untouched by humans, filled with rabbits and other animals that seemed afraid of Evan. Then he saw several monsters, so he decided to stay just outside the city since he didn't know where to go hunting monsters.

Evan walked around the fields and saw a green ball that moved of its own, with a stone in the middle of the ball. Evan quickly recognized the monster and decided to do defeat it quickly, since he was stronger than what his level said.

“A slime! They sure look like the slimes back on Dawn World. What a good enemy to test my power against monsters. Fire bullet!” Evan said, as he started concentrating his mana on his left index finger.

Evan shot a fire bullet from his left index finger, which it pierced the slime and killed it. The slime trembled and then all the goo fell to the ground like the stone that was in perfect condition.

“What a bully. Taking on such weak foes.” Noche said as he came out of the body and looked at the deceased slime. ‘He will take ages to reach level 10, and we need to speed up. The clock is ticking, and if he’s not ready… We may lose all.’ Noche thought to himself as he considered how easily Evan had dealt with the enemy.

“If I go overboard, we might become a target. Be smart. Get some weaklings, obtain materials, get to level 2. Still, one monster more and I should be level 2.” Evan said as he recalled how easy it was to level up in Dawn World at first.

“You are totally wrong. Our level requirements at 10 times higher than your world. Or it was just that you had such a boon before?” Noche said, as he chuckled, which did surprise Evan since that meant that he had to think quickly.

Evan chuckled, and decided to tease Noche a bit while taking a bit of time to rest. After all, if he went overboard here... He would get a lot more attention than desired, which was a danger to his plan, but it’s not like he had many other choices right now.

“You really are a great tutorial book. I should have checked that.” Evan said, teasing the book and provoking him.

“Call me again tutorial book! I dare you! I double dare you!” Noche exclaimed as he flew up and down, angry at Evan’s words.

“Okay... What a grumpy grimoire you are!” Evan retorted as he smirked at Noche.

“Get the slime goo and the mana core. By the way, good job. Not damaging the goods will give you more money.” Noche said as he calmed down slightly.

“How much money this stuff gets, if it gets sold?” Evan asked, his curiosity over the desire of Amelia to have what he would acquire alongside his desire to see how many differences there were with Dawn World.

“The slime goo is a really hygienic item! It dissolves any filth! There are even slime ranches in the world to obtain it. And the mana cores are used for making Magitek items. Like flying ships, flintlock guns and other kinds of items.” Noche informed calmly.

“You really know a lot. Even if I already knew what both things were, seems like it’s the same back on Dawn World. But this, a flying ship? Hah, nah. That is not going to go well, I can tell you already. The ship will just overheat and fall.” Evan said, as he recalled his attempts at making a flying ship in Dawn World.

“You sure know a lot of stuff, for someone who isn't of this world. If we find a goblin, cut its ears, get its bones and blood and after all that extract its heart. The ears can be exchanged for coin to new adventurers that do not want to fight goblins but have quests of goblin eradication, the bones hold a lot of mana and can be put in a grinder and mix it with the blood which has extreme regenerative power to make high-grade healing potions and the heart can be used for alchemical concoctions.” Noche said as he scoffed.

“Yep, I know that too. Also, the bones work for mana potions. And the price?” Evan said as he raised an eyebrow.

“20 copper coins the bottle of slime goo, 30 copper coins the mana core, 15 copper coins the ear, 80 copper coins the set of 50 bones and 1 silver the set of 5 goblin hearts.” Noche informed.

“Well, that's a lot. Back in Dawn World, it costed like half of that.” Evan said as he pondered how inflation has affected the prices of the items. ‘Inflation did exist in the medieval era? Well, it should, seeing how the wars ate war chests like they were bagels.’ Evan thought to himself.

“Last night I had to roam around the city reading minds with telepathy. I went after the merchants for knowing all the prices. My brain still hurts of that. I know of the uses of the materials due to one of the former Dark Lords. That guy was a nerd of crafting.” Noche said as he groaned.

“Good work, Noche! Thanks a lot! Now to exterminate goblins and slimes. Getting to lv 5 is our objective for today.” Evan said with a smile. ‘You know what? Notoriety will be a problem, but I need funds. A lot of funds. So… If given this chance, I am going to exploit it!’ Evan thought to himself, considering the funds he would need for his plans.

“I will make sure that you don't get lost. No one seems to be around, and if we get seen, we can just end the ones that see me quickly.” Noche said as he floated near Evan.

Evan and Noche started wandering around the area to hunt down more monsters, and even going inside the forest that was outside Crelens to seek goblins amidst the area, since they had a tendency to hide and ambush people. After the hunting season, Noche learned how much of a loot goblin Evan could be, since he made sure to acquire everything he could and put the weapons the goblins had inside his inventory in order to sell them to the highest bidder. Which made him start thinking that Evan didn't truly know what was common, nor anything about decency in Terra, or he simply decided to just ignore common sense and logic for his own benefit.

Meanwhile, Saida was walking through the town with Kanbe which were filled with people of all kinds, and it was lively as usual. They both had a mission given by King David, and it was a simple one, kill the noble lady that was going to try to stop the slavery. It was a mess of the highest caliber, since a disjointed nobility could lead to civil war and the possibility of the other pillars of the country to go rogue and try to take a slice of the action.

Elstivia was a monarchy, and the king usually had the last word, but each of the influential pillars of the country was given voice and vote when it came to making new laws and legislative actions. One of them being the nobles, another being the merchants, a third one being the church of Zerax (used to be the differents religions, but with the influence of the church… The other religions were left aside since they had not enough influence to affect the country), a fourth one being the underground aka the underbelly of the country (while typically at odds with the other factions, and being clearly illegal, they had so much influence that the king had no choice than to allow them to participate in the meetings), and the last one the guard (as they were the ones who would uphold the legality of the legislative actions).

That said, each faction was given a number of seats depending on their influence and with the ever-growing influence of the nobility… It was just a matter of time that a noble who would cause trouble like the one this noble was doing. Also, the fact that a noble was using workers (kids that do quests similar to low rank adventurers) was enough to consider something far more grim like a rebellion.

“I won't participate in this. Even if it is a mission.” Kanbe said as he looked clearly angry, since he didn’t like this mission one bit and would rather prefer to go to train or do any quest that helps the people instead of dealing with internal issues like this one.

“Why a noble would use orphans to protect her? She has a small army of royal guards who will lay down their lives to protect her.” Saida said, as she was remembering the stories that were told of Evan and would talk of him as an expert strategist that would leave clues to his enemies just as a way to laugh at them.

“That's odd. I agree there. But maybe it's because of what David has done this time, sending us both. Maybe she fears that his majesty could just give the order to her guards and get her killed right away.” Kanbe said, considering how the nobles used to act back on Earth.

“I believe that she is manipulated by a cursed child. Surely something of Evan or Legias!” Saida exclaimed, considering a rather dangerous idea.

“That would be-” Kanbe said as he started pondering whether it was just a silly idea or if maybe Saida struck gold with the idea.

Before Kanbe could finish talking, he noticed a possible plan of Evan for controlling the noble faction. If slavery, the sector that gave a 20% of the capital of Elstivia was forbidden it would be a hard hit for the economy of the country and would cause an imbalance in Elstivia that he could use to do something even worse. This alone made Kanbe shiver, and look worried.

“This may reek of Evan's stench so hard that I may faint.” Kanbe said as he fully understood the extent of this situation if they both were taken.

“You reached the same idea as I had.” Saida said as he looked at the worried face of the japanese hero.

“Yes. Evan is that kind of man. Shrewd, manipulative and evil! He even used an innocent woman as a hostage. Sorry if I offended you with my doubts.” Kanbe said as he scratched the back of his neck.

“No offense taken. But I am taken, so no luck, hero.” Saida said as she walked forward, passing by Kanbe as she strutted.

Saida said her last phrase with a small grin, which made Kanbe blush and cough. After this friendly banter, Kanbe kept walking with Saida towards the objective of their mission. Because this day would be a day that would pass in the history books, but not in a way that anyone in the situation would ever expect.

Far away from the action, in the slums, Robin and Ivy moved towards a small shack that was made of oak wood and that didn’t have windows in itself, just a pair of small wooden doors that would block the areas where the windows should be and allow a drift of the air to the inside of the area and vice versa.

That said, Robin knew better than believing what he was seeing, since the elf knew exactly where he was going. Once Ivy and Robin got close enough to the building, they were greeted by a blinding flash of white and once they managed to see again they were in an entirely different area.

Robin and Ivy had been teleported while being struck by a flashbang to an area way beyond where they were before, they were in a thick forest that seemed close to the elven country, seeing the high concentration of mana that the area had.

Rivialt was known as a massive mana productor due to the fact that the elven forests had trees that absorbed massive amounts of mana, making them in turn producing more mana than normal living beings and so producing stronger monsters while making sure that the elves would find themselves comfortable as they thrived in areas with a high concentration of mana.

“This is weird… Where we are, Robin?” Ivy asked as she felt weird in an area with all that mana, it felt as a thousand needles pricked her body each second all across her body.

“We are near Lagos, in the forest near the frontier between Elstivia and Rivialt. Consider it a black box area, where no one can put their head inside so happily due to the amount of soldiers that are in the area. Ironically, it’s the best place to hide a group of experts whose tech could turn the world upside down. And so they stay underground, and keep away as they improve the tech and make it more ecological to prepare for the next godslayer era.” Robin explained as he moved along, looking around the area and trying to locate something on the floor.

“I see… But why are we coming here?” Ivy asked as she tried to avoid starting to scratch all of her body.

“Rubedo is acting up now. The castle is in disarray because Evan sent a message to David. Seems like the people here will have exactly what they sought. A new godslayer era might be starting, so might as well inform them and get ready for the chaos that will come with Evan kick-starting it.” Robin said as he found a small iron hatch door that he opened by pulling from the handle it had in its middle.

As Robin opened the hatch, several turrets came out of the ground and aimed at Robin and Ivy as a small camera attached to the other side of the hatch scanned both. For a few seconds, Ivy was closing her eyes, fearing what would happen if those weird things that had come out from the ground decided to attack them.

Robin simply waited, until the turrets went back below the ground with no issues after the camera checked them both, and then pushed Ivy down the hatch as he jumped right behind her.

“Waaaah!” Ivy exclaimed as she was falling down.

Robin smirked as he was falling down, since he could grab Ivy and keep her out of harms way, and grabbed Ivy right before she touched the ground to pull her to the side while ensuring she could fall on her feet, avoiding any sort of injury for the two journalists, as Robin landed gracefully.

Both were located in a damp cave, that looked like a mine, but the pillars that stabilized the cave were made of forged steel that was clearly enchanted to be resistant to oxidation, and held several white lamps that had lightbulbs that lighted the area.

For Ivy, this area was weird, but she wasn’t feeling the itchiness she was feeling before. In her eyes, this area felt magical, and she couldn’t understand why this place was here.

“Well, here we are, you should be feeling better now. Heh, if David Junior ever heard of this place… He would probably get scared and run to Falco’s side. Welcome to the underground base of the godslayers of the Free Alliance.” Robin said as he smiled widely.

“So… the fabled godslayers exist?” Ivy asked, looking at the damp cave they were in now.

“Of course they do, you are walking with one of them. Sorry for not telling you, but I wouldn’t have told you until a year or two passed. But if Evan is going to go wild as usual, might as well come out clean now and go to see one of my old friends right away.” Robin said as he started walking through the hallways of that damp cave, towards a circular area that had porcelain floor tiles, metallic red walls, and lots more of the lamps that were placed in the hallways.

“Yeah, well, you could have left me in the inn and gone by yourself.” Ivy said, pointing out that Robin could have decided to not trust in her.

“Smart genius. You will regret that. Either way, I decided to trust you and help you with some issues you may have along the way. Hate me for this, or thank me, later. But you are getting quite the special treatment.” Robin said as he arrived to the circular area as he smirked.

Then a young woman with stark white skin, long red hair with purple strands, amber eyes that had a pupil that was shaped like a gear, a voluptuous body worthy of a supermodel, and had a round piece of silver with a massive sapphire gem attached to it that had several runes engraved upon it. This woman was wearing a purple and yellow bodysuit, yellow platform heels of at least 15 inches (ca. 38 cm), wielding a massive black longbow made of black bones with a yellow string that seemed more durable than flax, and was carrying a yellow curved dagger with a cross guard and a red gem on its pommel on her left hip with a sheath attached magnetically to the bodysuit.

“Pik, don’t get so defensive. Do you think any of the numbskulls of Elstivia would get here? And the ones in Rivialt would have gotten shot to death, before you do that stupid retort.” Robin said to the red-haired woman.

“I just dislike your sorry ass, you bastard. I saw you from here, back when you got to the entrance. You could be so much better, instead of just a small journalist, Hermes.” Pik said as she scowled at Robin, but her eyes were shining as she kept an eye on Ivy.

“No need to call me by my nickname, Pik. I am here to check with Gio. I need some mods for my friend here, and a regen pod. Also, some body stabilizer. I will pay in info this time.” Robin said as he glared at Pik.

“Which kind of information could you damnable ass have to make us-” Pik started retorting, until Robin chuckled and interrupted her.

“Evan is back. Parabellum. He is starting a war already, with David Junior. Why? Don’t know. Maybe he heard about Legias and wants to burn Junior to ashes for it.” Robin calmly said as he smirked, while Pik’s eyes widened and her sapphire started shining brightly.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“No way! That bastard is going wild already!? What is Hades thinking? His troops are almost gone, and while he could take over without it… It’s gonna be a bloodbath. That bastard could get them and roast them like a roast chicken, but it’s gonna be a Murim Blitz once more.” Pik said as she looked surprised.

“Rubedo is inside the church of Zerax, and extra because I want some heavy mods on Ivy here.” Robin said.

“Now we know why he started a war, it’s not like he jumped blindly into it. The bastard is getting it all ready, and wants to keep Junior scared shitless until he has it all ready. That idiot king can’t prepare for what’s coming while the church and Katas are asking him so much. Once Junior drops the guard, feeling that Hades is not going for the kill, he’s going to shove up all his prep work up Junior’s ass.” Pik said as she smirked.

“We both know him. That bastard is a psycho. But while he is a psycho, he is better than Junior back in his goddamned throne.” Robin said as he chuckled.

While both Pik and Robin talked, from a door that was camouflaged on the north side of the red wall came out a rather short man with pale skin that had long unkempt hair unless a small strand of black hair that was braided in his left side, green eyes with a scar made by a cut on the left side of his left eye and a pair of tattooed black dots below said eye, one tattoed black dot above his right eyelid and another one below his right eye, a small beard right on his chin, with a red triangle earring placed on his right ear, and a tattoo that was a small bamboo branch on his neck.

This man was wearing a black belt buckle collar, which had a silver buckle, a white shirt, light blue jeans, and a pair of dark blue sneakers.

“I heard everything since Pik sent it over with her Manatek device to my terminal, and you better be thankful I am calling it like that for the sake of your friend’s mind. What the hell is Evan thinking? We are his friends, but we can never catch a glimpse of his plans.” The man said as he scratched his chin.

“How the hell would I know, Gio? I just got the confirmed information. But this sounds just like him as usual. And still hating to not calling the things by their true name? I thought you had matured.” Robin said as he smiled.

“Shut it, perv. The G-18 comm and interdiction device is the best when it comes to both sabotaging and communicating without a mana operator. Or in case of Pik, when she can’t use the MOC because she’s shooting arrows. Either way, what do you want exactly?” Gio said as he scoffed.

“First, a full medical check for Ivy here. Then regen pod to regenerate her body, maybe fixing her growth issues due to being a slave. And finally, we will talk about the mods, if they are required.” Robin said, as he looked serious.

“Seeing her eyes from the get-go, through Pik’s eyes, I would say that she’s going to start having eyesight issues. Her eyes must be already failing from the start. But I would like to do a full check on it. Pik, you can do that, right? I am no doctor after all, I just handle body modification since I am great at engineering and learned enough medical stuff to do that sort of operations.” Gio said as he looked at Pik.

“I already used my tech on her when she was falling to the ground. But I will check it properly this time. Just because you asked, Gio. But as far as I saw with my eyes, congenital eye disease. She’ll need a new set of eyes.” Pik said, as she shrugged, and lowered the bow, showing her intention to not attack as she sent it to her inventory.

“Maybe we can just regenerate her eyes.” Gio said as he looked worried about Ivy.

“Okay, I will use Treament Creation on her, but I used already Doctor Vision on her and the ailments are severe. Maybe you are right. Seeing her body, I wouldn’t say that you should go for the heavy hitter series, Hermes.” Pik said, as she started moving towards the eastern side of the room, from which another camouflaged door opened.

“That is up to the engineer, and unless you are going to work on her… Don’t say what the engineer does!” Hermes retorted, while patting Ivy’s back to go with Pik.

“T-Thanks.” Ivy quietly said as she ran after Pik, not before almost hitting one of the camouflaged walls since she miscalculated the width of the camouflaged door.

“Now that the girls are gone… Evan is back. You know what that means, right?” Gio said with a serious look.

“The bastard will want to rip Jia into pieces. Especially after the bullshit she pulled in Krebs.” Robin said as he sighed.

“She was your girlfriend. Don’t you feel-” Gio said, while Robin put a finger on his mouth to interrupt the dwarf.

“She made her choice. I made mine. Her Justice sect did her stuff, and somehow managed to come out on top from the Murim Blitz against a weakened and tired Evan. And now, she made sure that mages would be looked down upon in Krebs and ensured the position of the Murimists in the world by using that exploit to the bitter end. The different martial sects and the Murim Alliance have gotten fat and conceited thanks to her. If she thinks that training hard to make new styles to defeat Evan will work against that psycho, we both know that he’ll be glad to let her simmer and die by her own stupidity.” Robin said with an angry face, clearly brooding over the entire situation.

Gio simply sighed, and patted Robin’s back, as he knew how the elf probably felt about the entire situation but also knew that stopping his friend was impossible once the situation got this far out of hand.

They both could only hope that after the turmoil that was incoming, everything would become so much better for the entire world.
