Chapter 18: An Intermediate's Guide to Ki Control

An Intermediate's Guide to Ki Control: Written by &*@!)6t#$

Raditz grins as he stares at the words in front of him. After several hours of being forced to suffer through Bulma and Krillin's bickering, the room has finally fallen silent, much to his relief. Krillin, still bandaged up, was discharged from the hospital not long after Bulma left. Raditz can only assume that she used some of her family's money to convince the doctors to let Krillin leave, as the bald fighter is by no means healed up.

'I sure wish Gohan visited before he left... I guess his mom didn't want him to see me or his dad this injured? It doesn't matter... I'll just see him after he gets back from Namek, or on Namek, if I decide to go with Kakarot...'

Raditz shakes his head, clearing his thoughts before he focuses on the blue screen in front of him.

'I've got two weeks until Korin has those Senzu Beans ready. Since I've got nothing better to do, I may as well start reading this now... System, use An Intermediate's Guide to Ki Control!'

Using An Intermediate's Guide to Ki Control

Raditz stares at the new words that appear on the blue screen, greedily absorbing all the information he can from his reward.

An Intermediate's Guide to Ki Control: Written by &*@!)6t#$

In the previous guide, you learnt what Ki is, the two basic types of Ki, and how to use Your Ki. In this guide, I will detail the more advanced forms of Ki, how you can use them more effectively, and how to perform several more advanced techniques.

As previously established, the two most basic types of Ki are "Your Ki" and "Natural Ki." However, Ki takes many other forms. The ones we'll talk about in this guide are Good Ki, Evil Ki, and Synthetic Ki. We'll start with a brief introduction to the three types of Ki, and will go more in-depth later in the guide.

Good Ki, unlike what the name would suggest, is not always used by those who are considered "good." It is also called "Regular Ki." This type of Ki is the default for most beings in the Universe, with those who are not born with it being rare exceptions. This Ki visually appears as either a white or blue aura around those who possess it, and many techniques require this type of Ki to fuel them. The most notable example of this is the Spirit Bomb.

For further information about this type of Ki, please proceed to Section 1.

Evil Ki, also known as "Selfish Ki", is Ki possessed by those who are extraordinarily selfish or cruel, with little to no good intentions in them. This Ki is violent, powerful, and extremely dangerous, both to the user and to the user's enemies. Those who possess this Ki are, on average, stronger than those who possess Good Ki. However, Evil Ki corrupts the mind. Those who have this Ki tend to be more arrogant and sadistic, causing them to make more mistakes in battle. Most of the "Mind Control" techniques use this type of Ki, but users of this Ki are much more vulnerable to sealing techniques than users of Good Ki.

For further information about this type of Ki, please proceed to Section 2.

Synthetic Ki, or "False Ki", is an imitation of Your Ki usually created with science or magic. If created correctly, users of this Ki will have a never-ending well of energy to draw from, allowing them to fight at top condition for an infinite amount of time. This type of Ki tends to be more powerful than both Good Ki and Evil Ki, but causes users to be apathetic and lazy. Given that this type of Ki is an imitation, users won't be able to benefit from techniques that use Natural Ki, and will not be capable of condensing or purifying the Ki in their bodies. Because of this, it is almost impossible for users of this type of energy to attain God Ki, but like God Ki, it is extremely difficult to sense.

For further information about this type of Ki, please proceed to Section 3.

'It's almost impossible to get God Ki, huh? I guess that means that Ki density and Ki purity are needed to attain God Ki... I wonder how that works.' Raditz thinks to himself. Suddenly, a second blue screen appears over the screen that holds the guide.

There are many different techniques stored within this guide, but access to them will be restricted depending on what type of Ki you use. Select which type of Ki you use now.

Dismissing the second screen, Raditz tries to go to the next page, but discovers that the guide is stuck, refusing to progress until he chooses a type of Ki.

'That's... that's such bullshit! System, what the hell?! At least let me look at the other techniques! Even if I can't use them, I can still find ways to counter them! Aren't you supposed to be a cheat since I got pulled into this world, like most novels?!?! Stop being so stingy, dammit! Make me OP!'

Select which type of Ki you use.

The blue screen seems almost... mocking as it flashes those words. Gritting his teeth, Raditz begins to think about his options.

Stolen story; please report.

'Fine, whatever...'

'Synthetic Ki would usually be my first choice. After all, it essentially makes me an android, but... I don't even know if choosing that will turn me into an android. The System told me to choose "what type of Ki I use." What if instead of giving me Synthetic Ki, this choice just gives me techniques that can be used by androids? Wouldn't that just leave me with a useless guide? Even if it does turn me into an android... I don't think that would be a good thing. The only reason I'm able to train and grow stronger is because of my Saiyan genes. Since I'm a Saiyan, I naturally love fighting and training, but if I became an android... the Synthetic Ki would cause me to be naturally lazy. I'd better choose something else...'

'I think I'll have to choose Good Ki. I don't know how Kakarot would react if I suddenly had Evil Ki, but I can guess that it wouldn't be good. On top of that... I just don't want to be evil. I probably have Good Ki right now. Sure, I'm a bit selfish, but no more than most people... probably. I don't know how my personality would change if I got Evil Ki, but I can imagine that I'd be closer to how Raditz actually was in the show. Maybe I'd be trying to take over random planets, slaughtering anyone in my way...? Yeah, I really don't want to be like that. This is a real world with real consequences. If I hurt someone, I'm not just hurting a random NPC in a game, I'm hurting another person. Knowing that, what kind of psychopath would choose to be evil?'

'I guess I just have one option left... System, I select Good Ki!'

You have selected: Good Ki. Granting access to the corresponding techniques.

The blue screen suddenly disappears, granting him access to the guide. He scrolls to the next page, still a little unhappy that the System prevented him from learning all the techniques the guide has to offer.

Section 1: Good Ki.

Although there is great power in the tainted energy of Evil Ki, there is an equal amount of power in Good Ki, just of a different variety. Those who utilize Good Ki will find that their basic combat capabilities fall behind those who use other types of Ki, but there are many techniques to close this gap. On top of that, due to Good Ki being the "default" type of Ki, it is far easier to condense, purify, and manipulate this Ki.

Good Ki can be seen as the middle ground between Evil and Synthetic Ki. It isn't as subtle as Synthetic Ki, but it also isn't as crazy and violent as Evil Ki. The techniques that use this type of Ki reflect that. The techniques that will be detailed in this section are creation of materials, telepathy, self-healing, and Ki shields.

The creation of materials is a technique usually possessed by the Kais. Normally, it would require incredible amounts of Divine Ki, but there are imitation techniques that can be used by mortals, one of which will be taught in this guide. At its most advanced form, this imitation technique can be used to create almost any material through extremely fine Ki control, although it still pales in comparison to the actual technique of the Kais.

'What the hell?! Creation is considered an intermediate technique?! How does that make sense, System?! This is overpowered! Sure, it'll start off weak, but what if I'm able to create Katchin once I've practiced enough? What if I can make myself a Katchin sword?!' Raditz thinks, unable to stop a huge grin from forming on his face.

To use this imitation technique, you must force your Ki outwards, like you're about to fire a Ki blast. However, when the Ki begins to build into a ball, you must disperse it. Keep it spread out in the space you want to create in, but don't allow it to fully disperse and become Natural Ki. After that, focus your Ki sensing abilities towards the dispersed Ki, make sure that you feel every single particle of energy. While you're focusing, think about what you wish to create, and force the Ki to take the shape you choose. Keep in mind that the more complex an item or material is, the more difficult it will be to create it. Why don't you try it out for yourself? The image you have should be as detailed as possible. If you want a reference point, you can use your Ki sense to look at an item and attempt to copy that.

New quest: Create something!

Quest details: Creating items out of thin air is a powerful technique, even if it is just an imitation of a Kai's abilities. Mastering this technique could come in handy in your future!

Time remaining: Unlimited

Rewards: Imitation Creation technique

Punishment for failure: N/A

'Sounds easy enough. Now, what should be my first creation?' he thinks, looking around the hospital room. 'How about... a piece of metal, like the type the medical machines are made of?'

Raditz concentrates, focusing his Ki sense on the nearest machine, taking a long look at the metal that makes it.

'I see, I see... if I can remember that, then I should be able to copy that easily enough... actually, System, can you take pictures? Take a picture of what I'm sensing, and show it to me when I try to copy it!

Raditz waits expectantly for the System to capture what he's seeing. After several seconds, he begins to frown.

'Dammit System, aren't you supposed to be a cheat?! Help me out here'

"..."

"..."

'Argh, whatever! I'll do it myself.'

Raditz spends several hours closely examining the inner workings of whatever metal the medical machines are made of, only briefly interrupted by visits from the doctors or nurses that work at the hospital. Before he knows it, night has fallen, and he's finally committed the metal to memory.

'Yes! Take that, System! I don't need your help!' Raditz thinks happily, his mind easily recalling every single detail of the metal. Grinning dumbly, he forces Ki outwards from his body, making sure to keep a tight hold on it as he spreads it throughout a small area in the air.

'Let's see... for my first creation, I'll just make a basic metal slab, about as long as my hand. Should be easy enough...'

Bringing the image of the metal to mind, Raditz forces the Ki in the air to condense, to come together to create whatever he has in mind. After several long, tiring minutes of work, he begins to see progress as the Ki finally submits to his will. Suddenly, the Ki in his body flows outwards to join the Ki he sent in the air, and the System blares out several warnings in quick succession.

Warning: Ki at 50%

Warning: Ki at 25%

Alarmed, Raditz tries to rein his Ki back in, attempting to stop the process of creation. Unfortunately, his Ki refuses to obey him, continuing to flow out of him and into the small space where he first spread his Ki.

Warning: Ki at 10%

Warning: Ki at 0%

With a fearful look in his eye, Raditz watches as his Ki hits rock bottom, silently wondering what will happen now that his creation technique has run out of fuel. He doesn't have to wait long, however, as another blue screen soon fills his vision.

Ding!

Quest Complete!

You have gained: Imitation Creation technique

A tiny metallic slab hangs in the air for a moment, before dropping to the ground. Unlike the hand-sized piece of metal that Raditz had first envisioned, this slab is barely an inch in length. Staring at the piece of metal in exhaustion, Raditz has a single thought.

'...Alright, maybe it isn't as easy as I thought.'
