Side Story I: Jason's First Outing

“Are you feeling comfortable enough with your Magic mastery, Jason?” Anna asked.

“I can use some Elemental Magic and some Buff Magic. How long have I been here?” Jason responded.

“You have spent in the World of the Historians the equivalent of two Earth years.” Anna answered. “I believe you’re ready to go on your first adventure as a Historian.”

“I mean, I should be! I have the best teacher in the Universe!” Jason said, blushing while looking into Anna’s eyes. “Where are we going? Shouldn't it have been only two years since the New Universe Cycle began?”

“Time flows differently in every World, so there are some Worlds that have already developed enough for us to start recording.” Anna answered.

“I see, that’s very interesting!” Jason responded. “I guess it’s time to start working, so where are we going?”

“You’ll see once we get there!” Anna said. “Although I don’t think there is any life yet in the world we are going to. We’ll visit the Deity of that world.”

“Sounds fascinating!” Jason said with a big smile.

“Alright let’s head to the plaza.” Anna said. She then took out a black coat with a hood from her dimensional storage. “Here you go, this is your attire as a Historian.”

“Why do we have to wear these? And why do I have a black one while you have a silver one with some golden lines?” Jason asked as he took the coat and put it on.

“The colors represent our ranks. It goes from black, black with white lines, white, white with silver lines, silver, silver with golden lines and golden. So far there are about 1000 Historians with golden coats.” Anna responded. “You advance in rank by your power and your contributions.”

“I see, that means you’re incredible Anna. By the way, how many Historians are there?” Jason asked.

“I don’t know. There are too many to count. At the end of every Cycle a new Historian emerges, so there are trillions.” Anna responded. “I don’t know how many Universe Cycles have passed. I don’t think even Raul has kept track.”

Anna and Jason started to walk towards the plaza, as they walked Jason could see that the City of the Historians was similar to the megacities back on Earth. There were many skyscrapers as far as the eye could see. The absence of cars even after two years seemed weird to Jason. All the Historians either walked or flew towards their destination because of their Magic, vehicles for any kind of transportation were unnecessary. Jason observed the Historians walking and flying around the streets and noticed all kinds of species from Humans, Beastmen, Elves, Dwarfs, Fairies and many other species he had never seen. Jason was still unfamiliar with how the World of the Historians worked.

“Anna, how are this many Historians managed?” Jason asked.

“We have a governing body and Raul is the leader of that body and he chooses who works in the government along with Ixchel.” Anna responded.

“So not everyone records the History of the Universe?” Jason continued with his questions.

“Unlike on Earth, everyone here is immortal or we might have a very long lifespan, so many people can dedicate themselves to following their passions even if they contribute nothing to recording History.” Anna answered. “I mean you can still choose to just stay in this world forever, this world will never be affected by Universe Cycle’s it remains a constant that will always exist.”

“No, I want to go out and explore new worlds and record them into History!” Jason said with a determined expression.

“Excellent, that is what I expected from you!” Anna said with a smile. “That is also why there are so few Silver and Golden Rank Historians because the brunt of the work is done by few compared to how many of us there are. It’s because Ixchel allows for this to happen. If she wanted she could force us to record by threatening to send us to the Abyss.”

If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

“The Abyss? What is that place?” Jason questioned.

“We don’t know what exactly that place is, all we know is that anyone who gets banished there never comes back and Ixchel also said that the Abyss also is unaffected by her and the Universe Cycles.” Anna answered. “It’s scary to think about it. She also speculated that there are low amounts of Mana, so there is barely anything living there. And the few living things are full of malice and are quite strong.”

“I guess we have it pretty good out here!” Jason said.

“Of course!” Anna said. “We’re in the plaza. Let me open a portal!”

“What kind of Magic do portals fall under?” Jason asked.

“Portals and Dimensional Storage fall under Dimension Magic.” Anna responded. “I’ll teach you how to use it later, it’s very complicated, it took me about two Cycles to learn it.”

Anna extended her arms and opened her palms. An aqua aura began to surround Anna, then little by little that area was redirected from Anna’s body through her palms to the space right in front of her. After a few seconds, an aqua portal was open.

“So beautiful!” Jason exclaimed.

“It is! I wish to show you the beauty of the many worlds we will be recording!” Anna said. “Let’s go in!”

Jason nodded and Anna went into the portal. Jason followed behind her. As soon as he stepped into the portal Jason felt disoriented and dizzy. In an instant Jason found himself transported in the middle of outer space. He still felt uncomfortable, but the sight he was seeing had him in awe. Far in the distance he could see a massive star, but it looked different from the sun. As he observed his surroundings he noticed some stars out in the distance. Then he observed one of the stars far from him explode.

“This view is incredible, Anna!!” Jason was enthusiastically observing everything around him.

“It is! This is the early stages of this World! The stars you see are the first stars of this World.” Anna explained. “All the Worlds start like this and it’s up to the Guardian Deity to shape up the World as they want using the Universe System.”

“I wonder how this world will be shaped!” Jason said. “I guess I’ll find out eventually!”

“There is no need to wonder!” Jason and Anna could hear a divine female voice. “For this a world, which should be familiar to you!”

“You’re here!” Anna said, trying to find where the voice was coming from.

“Hello, Historians!” A beautiful blonde woman with emerald eyes appeared in front of them. She was as tall as Jason. “I am the Guardian Deity of this World, Oreto!”

“What do you mean I am familiar with this World?” Jason asked.

“In due time, this World shall lead to the creation of a planet called Earth, Jason!” Oreto responded.

“How … do you … ?” Anna glared at Oreto. “I never heard of something like this happening before! Earth already existed in the previous cycle!”

“For you see Earth is a special place, Anna! You have laid eyes upon the records of your colleagues, I believe!” Oreto responded. “This cycle will give rise to what is needed and Earth is the key piece!”

“You … are a Guardian Deity … you should be bound by HER!” Anna became angry.

“I only follow the duty The Great Will imparted upon me!” Oreto responded. “I am HIS daughter just as SHE! I will see that HIS will is accomplished this Cycle!”

“Then you are our enemy!” Anna continued to glare at Oreto.

“You have misunderstood me! I am just accomplishing my duty! Everyone has a duty, Ixchel has her own, the Historians have their own, and I have my own!” Oreto continued, “I understand why you see me as your enemy! We both know our fate when my duty is complete, the only difference is that I have been a Divine being my whole existence and you are a Divine being who used to be a mortal. Your thoughts and desires are influenced by your mortal nature and since Ixchel was made with no will imparted upon her, she was influenced by the mortal thoughts and desires of the Historians! I welcome all Historians to this World for it is your duty to record the History of the Universe Cycles! That is what The Great Will has decreed!”

“I’ll stop you alongside Ixchel and the rest of the Historians!” Anna declared.

“Anna calm down!” Jason grabbed Anna’s hand. “She is not a danger to us!”

“Jason you don’t understand!” Anna argued.

“I might be the newcomer Historian, but I understand!” Jason said. “I’m sorry about my Master, Miss Oreto.”

“I understand her, but I have a question.” Oreto said. “Are you willing to let more people experience what you saw that day, your last day as a mortal?”

“I …” Jason could not answer.

“It is a tough question, but I already made up my mind the moment I came into existence!” Oreto said with a beautiful smile. “I will follow my duty until the end!”

Jason and Anna observed Oreto as she disappeared out of their sight. Anna was unsure on what to do with the information Oreto had told her. Anna opened a portal back to the World of the Historians. Both of them entered the portal, still thinking about their conversation with Oreto.
