Carmen was in the classroom for Magic Theory. She was wearing the school uniform, a red sailor suite. She was sitting down at her desk, still thinking about Oswald’s words. She knew her brother was right about what he said about her attitude, yet her grandfather was the one who told her acting like that was expected of a Deus. If she thought about it her family is influential, so she should act superior, but Oswald was right in questioning what had she achieved to act like that.
“Alondra, who do I listen to? My brother or my Grandfather?” Carmen asked her friend Alondra, a redhead girl with green eyes.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but you should listen to Oz. He is more handsome.” Alondra replied. “Besides, he seems nicer than your Grandfather.”
“I am talking about feeling superior just for being a Deus.” Carmen said. “Oz is saying I shouldn’t feel superior for just being a Deus because the family history are not my accomplishments, but Grandfather says that being a Deus gives me the right to be superior.”
“I mean your family is pretty powerful. They even have the Deus Guild.” Alondra said. “Your Dad is Duke Deus. I mean family still influential, we the Quetzallis are also a noble family. I mean your ancestor Leon Deus married Rosemary Quetzalli, she came from my family. So she was a Quetzalli before marrying and adopting the family name Deus”
“Maybe that’s why we are friends, we have a common ancestor about 500 years ago.” Carmen said.
“You shouldn’t be that happy about him. Duke Marco Quetzalli might have been our ancestor, but he was a terrible man.” Alondra said. “He tried to kill his daughter and his son to achieve eternal life. I am glad Duke Leon Deus stopped him.”
“That period in history was busy. I mean Leon Deus conquered the last dungeon, he stopped Duke Marco Quetzalli and King Gustav Romani II when they tried to sacrifice their children to obtain eternal life and rule forever.” Carmen said. “Pope Lu was the one that allied with the King and told him how to achieve eternal life, so Saintess Amelia fought by Leon Deus’s side along with Rosemary, and Crown Prince Gustav.”
“History is so fascinating. I wish we had more information before the Magic Revolution.” Alondra said. “There used to be a country that occupied land from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean known as the United States of America. And our province California was a state of that country. I want to learn about how this place was in the past, but it’s so difficult with all the lost records. I mean about 1500 years ago all their electronics got damaged, so theri Internet got completely destroyed. Stupid non-magic computer that got destroyed by a magic wave.”
“To be fair Magic Engineering is a newer branch.” Carmen said. “I wouldn’t expect them to develop Magic Technology while dealing with the Dungeons and the Monster Waves.”
“Sup nerds.” A tan girl with short black curly hair greeted them. “How was your weekend?”
“Hey Melanie!” Carmen said. “I watched a movie with my brother and his girlfriend. And also studied.”
“Wait, Oz has a girlfriend?” Alondra was shocked. “Why didn’t you tell me? He is supposed to be my future husband.”
“You’re wrong. He will be mine.” Malanie said. “We Romani are second strongest in Magical Power only losing to the Deus. Besides, it’s time for the Romani Family to have a daughter marry into the Deus Family.”
“Stop you two.” Carmen said. “Oswald is in love with Hannah and I like Hannah, so he’ll be with her.”
“Okay, but why were you two talking about boring stuff? The past already happened.” Melanie said. “We should focus on the future, so let’s train to become more powerful.”

“History is interesting, Melanie. If we could understand why the Magic Revolution happened, we might be able to become more powerful as a society.” Alondra said.
“Whatever you say.” Melanie said. “But your history has never helped you beat me in combat.”
“When did I ever say I wanted to be an adventurer.” Alondra said. “I am going to become a Magic Engineer, but I am still going to get my Adventurer License during our senior year of high school like everyone else. And we are still in middle school, so I have time to improve.”
“Why are you two always arguing?” Carmen said. “We been friends since 1st grade, so stop all this arguing or I’ll stop taking you two to the Deus Guild HQ.”
“Okay, we’ll stop!” Alondra and Malaine said in unison.
The bell rang and all the students became quiet. At the front of the classroom, a brunette woman in her late-20s wearing a white shirt, a burgundy pencil skirt, and black heels began speaking.
“Good morning, class!” The woman said. “Today we will be learning more about magic.”
“Good morning, Ms. Luu.” The students said.
“First, does anyone besides Alondra and Carmen know the difference between Magic Power and Magical Energy?” Ms. Luu asked. A blond guy raised his hand. “Go ahead and explain to the class, George.”
“Yes, Ms. Luu.” George said while blushing. “Magical Power is the power we have thanks to our Magic, the greater our Magic Power the more powerful our Magic is, while Magical Energy is the energy we have available to use Magic and every being on Earth has Magical Energy.”
“Do you want to add something, Carmen?” Ms. Luu noticed Carmen had raised her hand.
“Yes, there is one exception to that.” Carmen said. “My brother doesn't have any Magical Energy nor Magic Power. But he is still the best brother.”
“That’s correct both of you, George and Carmen.” Ms. Luu said. “We still have no clue as to why Oswald is the only being like that. Nothing like this has been reported ever since the last main dungeon was conquered 1500 years ago, much less after the last dungeon was conquered 500 years ago. But let’s move on. Now the types of Magic. We have Elemental Magic, Support Magic, Defense Magic, and Pure Magical Energy.”
“What’s Pure Magical Energy?” Melanie asked.
“I am glad you asked, Melanie.” Ms. Luu said. “Pure Magical Energy is magic that uses raw Magical Energy to attack. It’s most notable for blast and beam attacks, this type of Magic is the hardest to learn and control. Many boss monsters in the dungeons can use it. Not even I can use it. But if you want to become a great Attacker, you will want to learn this Magic. There are only 100 recorded people that can use it right now. For elemental, who knows the Elements?”
“They are Fire, Wind, Earth, Water, Ice, Electric, Holy, and Shadow.” Alondra responded.
“That’s right.” Ms. Luu said. “The Holy Element is only used for healing or attacking undead monsters. And in order to be a Healer you must learn to use the Holy Element and Support Magic. Support Magic consists of buffs that make the target stronger. Lastly, we have Defense Magic, which consists of making Magic Shields. Defenders must be able to use this Magic to be effective, although some of them prefer to use the Earth Element to raise barriers.”
“Ms. Luu, how do we detect Magic Power?” Melanie asked.
“It’s kind of hard to say, but people that are talented in Magic start detecting Magic Power at around the age of 16.” Ms. Luu answered. “We have been trying to investigate why, but we have no idea. When I was 16 years old I just noticed I could feel Magic Power, so I don’t know how it happened. This ability is rare, so most people will live their lives not being able to detect Magic Power. But I am sure everyone here will awaken that ability.”
“Ms. Luu, how difficult is it to be an all-rounder?” Carmen asked.
“That’s difficult because you need to play all 3 parts, Attacker, Healer, and Defender.” Ms. Luu responded. “I would say most people that try fail and then specialize in one role. The only one person I know that has done it and unfortunately for us is the Lunarian Ranker known as Four. I must say, even though he is our enemy, I must admit he is very talented. Although hybrid roles are viable when only doing some of two like a Defender-Healer, Attacker-Healer, or Attacker-Defender. But no matter what role you choose, always know a bit of the other roles just in case of emergencies.”
That’s right, if I want to improve I have to rely on myself. Carmen thought. Just being a Deus won’t give me the power I need. I must achieve it all by myself. I’ll be the one to protect the people I care about, especially Oz.
