“Why are we taking the sewers? It smells real bad.” Twelve complained as she covered her helmet on the nose area with her arm. “Two, how come you don’t seem to be bothered by the smell.”
“Yeah, is there a secret?” Eleven said as he did the same as Twelve. “Man, I hope we arrive soon.”
“Why did I get stuck with you two?” Two complained. “You should’ve mastered Armor Ascension enough to be able to cover your nostrils.”
“Then how could we breathe?” Twelve asked.
“Filter the damn air using Wind Magic.” Two said. “Damn, he had to have me work with these two youngsters.”
“Oh, that works! Thanks, Two!” Twelve said. “I mean the last mission we had together worked perfectly, so it makes sense they put us together.”
“At least last time my part didn’t involve working directly with you two.” Two said.
“Come on, Two. We’ll become pals with each other soon.” Eleven said. “Right, Sis?”
“Yeah!” Twelve said enthusiastically. “We’re working towards the same goal, so don’t be such a downer. Also, it’s more fun to be with you than any of the other members, especially Four. Four is too strict. And he doesn’t teach anything.”
“Remember to not mess up.” Two said. “According to Four the Pope is at the tournament alongside the Captain and Vice-Captain of the Holy Knights. So, killing those Holy Knights should be easier. Just remember do not kill the innocent Holy Knight that had nothing to do with the massacre.”
“You got it!” Twelve said. “If the innocent ones get in the way. I’ll just knock them out.”
“See you’re better than Four.” Eleven said. “He just kills whoever if it makes the mission easier.”
“Remember the only ones that think like that are the Leader, Four, Three, Five, and Ten.” Two said. “We only want to hurt the people that deserve it.”
“I thought that One would think like that since she is the Leader’s daughter.” Twelve said.
“We are right below the Temple of Oreto.” Two said as he looked at his phone, then he looked up and saw a pipe going up. “We should be able to get in through that pipe. From the as-builts, this should lead to a manhole in the back of the training grounds.”
“I guess we'll go up and see if the as-builts are correct.” Eleven said.
“Good thing we can make our armor disappear and reappear to clean it.” Twelve said. “I am so grateful to be a Lunarian.”
“Don’t forget to put on the Magic Power Masker.” Two said as he put on a bracelet.
“That’s so creepy! I can’t sense your Magical Power.” Twelve said as she and Eleven put on theirs. “How do these work?”
“I have no idea.” Two said. “Seven recently made them and told me to test them out in my next mission. Now sneaking around should be easier. And they can also be used for communications. That old lady is a genius.”
The trio jumped into the pipe and started to make their way up towards the other side of the pipe. After a few minutes of traveling up vertically and then horizontally, Two spotted the manhole cover. He then tried to sense any Magical Power right above them. There seemed to be no one above in the vicinity, so Twelve casted a strength buff on Two. Two carefully lifted the manhole cover. The three of them came out of the manhole while keeping up their guard. Two closed the manhole before sneaking into the temple through the entrance on the east side of the training grounds.
“Let’s split off.” Two said. “You two go that way and I’ll go this way. Try to find out where the platoon leaders are.”
Two headed towards the south side, while Eleven and Twelve headed the north side. Eleven and Twelve eventually found a sign pointing towards the cafeteria and decided to follow it. As they got closer to the cafeteria, they could hear the voices of many young adults.
“I wish they had taken us.” A male voice said. “It gets boring to only do training for months.”
“I agree.” A female voice said. “But we are just the new recruits. We must follow the orders of the platoon leaders.”
“How should we get the info out of these guys?” Eleven whispered to Twelve.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“I got an idea. See that guy that just left.” Twelve whispered pointing towards a recruit that had just left the cafeteria. “He most likely is going back to his dorm, so we follow him there and force it out of him.”
“Got it.” Eleven whispered. “Let’s go.”
The pair sneaked around the hallways following the young man. After a couple of minutes, the young man opened the door and went inside. Eleven got close to the door and scanned for any Magical Power and he could only sense one Magical Power signature.
“He is alone, Twelve.” Eleven whispered.
“In the count of three you open the door, follow behind me, and close the door.” Twelve whispered and Eleven nodded. “One … Two … THREE!”
Eleven opened the door and Twelve quickly got into the room. Eleven followed behind and locked the door as soon as he got into the room. The room was a simple one consisting of a desk with a laptop, a bookshelf, and a bed. The young man was looking at the pair with horror and as he was about to scream, Twelve grabbed a t-shirt left on the floor and quickly gagged the young man, then she grabbed two sweatshirts and bound his arms and legs. Eleven casted a barrier that trapped the three of them.
“Okay, handsome.” Twelve said. “You’re going to tell us where the platoon leaders went.”
“Now that I look at him.” Eleven said. “He is quite the looker, Twelve. I wish I could take him back to my place.”
“Idiot focus on the mission.” Twelve said with an annoyed tone. “If you look at us, you should know who we are. If you don’t know how to read Roman Numerals allow me to introduce us. I am Twelve and this guy here is Eleven. We won’t hurt you if you give us the info that we want and don’t bother screaming.”
Twelve undid the t-shirt around the young man’s mouth and as soon as he could he began screaming. Twelve punched him on the face and he stopped screaming.
“The others won’t hear you.” Twelve said.
“Don’t that handsome face need to be protected, Twelve.” Eleven said.
“What do you Otherworlders want?” The young man asked, but he was punched once again by Twelve.
“We are Lunarians. Get it through your useless head.” Twelve said with an angry tone. “Tell us where the platoon leaders went and what they are doing.”
“You won’t break me that easily! I refuse to cooperate! Otherworlders!” The young man said with a determined expression. Twelve proceeded to beat up the guy with her punches. After a few seconds the guy had an expression full of pain. “Please, Miss Twelve stop. I’ll tell you … I’ll tell you, so please stop.”
“If you had talked earlier, you wouldn’t have been beaten up.” Twelve said. “Speak!”
“They told us, they will be going to explore the B-Rank Dungeon in the temple.” The young man said.
“How do we go to the dungeon?” Eleven asked.
“The dungeon is located in the room below the Pope’s office.” The young man said. “And since we don’t anticipate anyone like you guys breaking in, there is no Gate protecting the Dungeon Portal.”
“Thank you for that.” Twelve said as she gagged the young man once again. She then tapped the bracelet and began speaking to it. “Two, we know where they are.”
“Excellent job.” Two voice could be heard from the bracelet. “I have made a shocking and horrific discovery. You two need to also read the notes. Come to the Pope’s office.”
“And how exactly do we get there?” Twelve asked.
“Go the path I went until you hit the end of the hallway then take a right and continue until you see the stairs, go up the stairs and the door to the office will be right in front.” Two explained. “Should you guys know the layout after stealing the staff last time?”
“I know how to get to where the staff was, but I never investigated how to get to the Pope’s office.” Twelve said. “It was unnecessary to the mission. I only gathered enough intel to know how to steal the staff.”
“I guess it makes sense to only investigate that given how you work.” Two said. “You only think of one mission at the time. Come over quick.”
“You got it, Two.” Twelve said. “Eleven let’s go.”
The pair followed Two’s instructions to get to the Pope’s office and after a few minutes they found themselves inside the office.
“I was snooping around this office and found these notes on the drawers.” Two said, pointing to some papers on the desk. “Go ahead and read them.”
“Okay.” Twelve said.
Eleven and Twelve began reading the notes. As they read the notes, Two began to notice the air around them began to change.
“Those monsters … Then Mommy and Daddy …” From her voice, Two could tell Twelve was crying. “So, they only saw us as some sort of food when they massacred all those Lunarians.”
“Marcus, Victor!! I won’t forgive you!” Eleven’s voice was filled with rage. “They plan to grow their own power by killing people. I guess they won’t stop at us Lunarians and will also go for Earthlings. Two, what should we do?”
“I already took photos of these documents.” Two said. “It looks that the only ones that know about the killings being sacrificed for power gain are Marcus and Victor. They plan to get more powerful, so we have to stop them. I’ll send this anonymously to both Joseph and Cardinal Juan. They won’t act right away, but they will investigate more.”
“So, we just wait, eh?” Twelve had an angry tone. “Why don’t we just kill those monsters now?”
“Do you even have the power to kill them?” Two asked. “If you go and confront them now, you’re just going to die for nothing. We are going to get revenge on some of the ones that killed Lunarians that day. So where are they?”
“They went into a dungeon right below us.” Twelve said.
“I saw a door next to the stairs.” Eleven said. “The Dungeon Portal should be there.”
“Time to get some payback.” Two said. “Remember to prioritize your safety. Forget what the other members have told you. As long as I am the leader in the field, I want everyone to make it back!”
