Chapter 19: Discussion

Inside the Temple of Oreto in the office of the Pope. Pope Marcus and Victor Deus were engaged in a serious conversation.

“Joseph is getting too close to the truth, Victor.” Popa Marcus said. “That secretary of his might know more than she lets on. At least now she is your grandson’s bodyguard.”

“I’ll never acknowledge Oswald as my grandson. That magicless guy is not worthy of being a Deus” Victor said. “I wish he was the one who was killed instead of my wife. He has been in dangerous situations lately, so I hope he dies soon or maybe I should take care of that. Joseph is my best child. He is leagues above John and May, yet his son is just magicless. At least I still have a good grandson in Leon and even then there is still my brother’s grandson, Joshua.”

“We need more sacrifices before the truth comes out.” Pope Marcus said. “I don’t think we make another cover up like when we killed all those Lunarians, but this time our power should grow enough to not fear anyone even if the truth comes out.”

“You’re right, Marcus. I can’t wait to reveal my true power.” Victor said. “I’m getting tired of pretending to be weaker. But right now my power should be equal to Joseph's, but I need to surpass just in case he turns against me. Thanks to the infamy of the Lunarian Rankers it should be easy to start a purge against the Otherworders in a few years. We should be able to kill them and absorb their Magical Energy.”

“At least those Otherworlders are useful. Everyone believed the cover-up of our massacre as the Lunarian Mass Suicide.” Pope Marcus said. “When the Church of Oreto and the Deus Family work together, we can achieve greatness. I wish we could’ve recruited that rising healer, Maria, but your daughter recruited her before we could.”

“May, not only is she useless to me now, she is also getting in our way.” Victor said. “May, my daughter, you are testing my patience. She should’ve just stayed put and married a man from an influential family after losing her arm. But no she is 40 and still not married, what a waste of a connection with another family.”

“Well it doesn’t matter too much. We can do without Maria.” Pope Marcus said. “Our biggest problem is the Lunarian Rankers. They are too ruthless and they want revenge for what we did. How shall we deal with them?”

“That’s tricky. The best bet would be to uncover their hidden identities and kill them.” Victor said. “I wonder how much Magical Energy we could absorb from such powerful individuals.”

“Quite a lot, Victor.” Pope Marcus said. “But no as much as I expected. We already killed Twelve a couple of months ago. It looks like someone else is also absorbing their Magical Energy when they die.”

“Twelve? But didn’t she steal Saintess Amelia’s Staff less than two weeks ago?” Victor questioned.

“That is correct, so I suspect they just give someone new the spot of the old one, so they always have 12 Lunarian Rankers.” Pope Marcus answered. “But if the worst comes to worst, we can just kill Earthlings to absorb their Magical Energy. Earth will belong to us.”

“We are lucky that one of your predecessors discovered this Magic.” Victor said. “And we are lucky that the method of using it was hidden within this temple and you discover it.”

“How ironic that a descendant of Duke Leon Deus is using this magic.” Pope Marcus remarked. “I mean isn’t this why we stood up against the Church 500 years ago? He wanted to stop the Pope and the King at that time from using this magic.”

“Who cares about that?” Victor said. “I only want to become more powerful and have everyone under my rule.”

“Well then, my partner. I must get going.” Pope Marcus said. “I have some matters to attend to with the Cardinals.”

“I have some matters with the executives of the Deus Guild.” Victor said. “I’ll try to keep Joseph in the dark for as long as possible. He still thinks I am weaker than him and he still listens to me.”

Meanwhile in the office of the Leader of the Lunarian Rankers, the Leader and Seven are in an argument.

“You dumb bitch, why did you act by yourself, eh?” The Leader shouted. “What did that accomplish?”

“I had to see something for myself.” Seven talked back. “This is about taking revenge for Lunaria’s destruction.”

“What can you do? Do you think you can stand up to that man?” The Leader said. “We couldn’t do anything back then and not now. We should focus on getting revenge for what the Church of Oreto and the Deus Family did to us in this world. Forget about our old world. Earth is our new home and Lunaria ceased to exist.”

“I’ll get my revenge for what happened here on Earth, but that man might come to this world.” Seven said. “If he and his sister show up, then what? We don’t have the resources here on Earth to build another ship capable of traveling between worlds.”

“You old woman, you’re getting senile. But worry not. I already decided on your last mission.” The Leader said. “You are going to kill the Captain of the Holy Knights in a few months. I even have already decided on your successor. Four is highly recommending her.”

“But she is not even eighteen years old.” Seven said. “She is just a kid.”

“By that time she will be eighteen and besides she is way above everyone else we have on reserves.” The Leader said. “Why aren’t you happy? You’re finally going to kill the man who killed your family. Or are you worried about leaving your granddaughter by herself?”

“No, my granddaughter should be fine. She is an adult.” Seven said. “I’ll complete my mission, but I feel bad for her. So young and she will be joining our ranks. I wish we never had to do this. We lost our world and then we get killed in this one. We Lunarians have been suffering for a long time.”

“This won’t be true for long.” The Leader said. “I’ll rise to the top and take Earth for us. Earthlings don’t deserve this place. Besides, we are the rightful heirs to Earth.”

“I disapprove of your goals, but by then I’ll be gone.” Seven said. “Just because our ancestors came from Earth doesn’t make us the rightful heirs.”

“I mean what a big sign that we belong here.” The Leader said. “The world we escaped into was the same world our ancestors came from. I mean your mother was from this world.”

“Earth has changed from when our ancestors lived here. I mean my Mother told me there was no magic and she was from Japan.” Seven said. “But when we got here about 2000 years had passed since Magic appeared on Earth and the Japan my Mother talked about was not the same. We are meant to cohabit just like our ancestors from Earth did with the natives of Lunaria.”

“What would a Half-Lunarian like you understand?” The Leader said. “Although you were born in Lunaria, your mother was an Earthling. You can’t fully understand us. You’re not different from the Half-Lunarians born here.”

“You old fool. I helped engineer that ship that carried us to this world.” Seven said. “I have done more for the Lunarians than you.”

“You are dismissed, Seven.” The Leader said. “This will be our last time seeing each other, so farewell, Ayano.”

“So this is our last conversation.” Seven said. “Then don’t bother me, I’ll stay quiet until my last mission. Good-bye, Kenta.”

The Leader kept on looking at Seven with a smirk as she exited his office. After the door closed behind Seven, the Leader took out a black book with an ominous feeling.

“I should be able to carry out this plan in a few years.” The Leader whispered to himself as he read the book. “It will be the dawn of a new era.”
