The students left the hall after throwing glances at Arianne, Arlo, and Joe.
Passing beside Arlo, Ric snickered:
"What are you going to do now you have lost your protection?"
Arlo ignored him, causing Ric to harrumph.
'Just you wait!'
Arlo's eyes which had been fixed on the stunned Arianne all this while suddenly narrowed before looking to his side.
He locked eyes with Bon and Judi.
Bon glared at him while Judi appeared bashful when they locked eyes causing him to frown.
As the two left the hall, he could hear Bon's rebuke, "Sis, he is supposed to be our enemy."
"I-I know."
Shaking his head, Arlo threw the matter to the back of his mind, before walking to Arianne.
"Is she okay?" Joe asked from behind.
"She will. She is just shocked, is all."
.....
After throwing a small ruckus, Arianne regained herself.
She acted that way because she was free with Arlo and Joe if not she would have treated them coldly as she did others.
In that regard, she and Arlo were similar.
Later that night, Arianne took the group to the canteen.
Her former guide had already told her where it was located, so the trio didn't have a problem finding it.
It must be noted that while vampires feed on blood, some still choose to enjoy human delicacies.
Of course, what can truly nourish their bodies is blood.
After eating their fill, the group retreated for the night.
.....
Early next morning, the bell rang as early as 6 a.m. causing all the first-year students to quickly head to the main building.
Arlo, Arianne, and Joe met up before following the others into a huge class.
The class was built like in universities with the seats arranged from low to high; step by step.
Finding a relatively empty area, the trio sat.
The other students were no longer respectful to Arianne.
At least, not as they would before when they see her.
But that didn't mean that they would dare disrespect her.
Order or no order, she was still their princess.
After a few minutes, a middle-aged man with waist-length dark hair and broad shoulders entered the class.
"My name is Julian." he introduced gathering the attention of the entire students.
"You will have two classes every day. The teacher decides when the class ends. We will leave the remaining time for you to use as you fit."
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
"I will be the one to guide you on cultivation."
"Without further ado, let's start the class."
"There are myriads of races in the universe. Each of these races practices a system of cultivation. We have mages, warriors, and soul cultivators."
"Initially, I planned on only teaching you guys about mana and soul cultivation but because we now have someone practicing body cultivation among us, I will also speak about it in my later classes."
The students wondered who the teacher was referring to, but he didn't bother to clarify.
Only Arlo's group knew he was talking about Arlo, and Judi and Bon had an inkling of who he was referring to.
"Let us start with mana cultivation. A large majority of all races cultivate mana, while a few minorities cultivate astral energy. Soul cultivation lies somewhat in between, while not as rare as warriors, they are also uncommon compared to mages."
"In fact, most races that claim to practice soul cultivation like beasts and humans, only cultivate their divine sense."
"They could spread their divine sense to observe their surroundings while a few geniuses among them could even use it to defend themselves from soul attacks. But that is their limit. There has never been an account of one such person being able to perform soul attacks."
"And that is because their spiritual energy is weak and formless. To perform soul attacks, one must directly harness their soul energy which can be found in the consciousness sea."
"And that makes us vampires unrivaled among most races. We are natural-born mages with an affinity to the rare darkness law, our bloodline strengthens our physical bodies granting us superhuman strength which while falls far short compared to warriors, and a bit behind werewolves, makes our bodies far stronger than average mages."
"And most importantly we are the only known races able to fully harness spiritual energy making us apex predators when we came to existence less than a century ago."
A look of pride flashed on the faces of all the vampires in the class, while Arlo was dumbfounded.
'The vampires have only existed for less than a century?'
Now he knew why the first years numbered so little.
Unfortunately, Julian didn't wait for him to process all the information he just acquired.
"Today, I will focus on what all three cultivation systems have in common. Who can tell me what that is?"
Barely a second later, a young, beautiful girl raised her hand from the front of the class.
Arlo recognized her as one of the outstanding four.
She had big eyes and a baby face, while her eyes hidden behind her specs continually flashed with intelligence.
"What all three cultivation systems have in common is their affinity with laws."
Very good!" Julian praised causing the girl to smile proudly.
"Laws!" Julian took a deep breath, a reverent look forming on his face:
"The universe is made up of myriad laws. We can classify all these laws into four groups."
"The first and most common are the elemental laws; they include the law of fire, water, wind, lightning, and earth."
"The second group is known as the Rare laws. Compared to elemental laws, they are uncommon. They include the law of light, darkness, metal, wood, gravity, and many more."
"Then we have the Abstruse laws. This is the most special of the four groups. The abstruse laws are what really make laws to be myriad and countless. They can be weaker than elemental laws or can be as strong as the supreme laws. They are quite unpredictable, and we know not much about them as rarely do you find two people with the same abstruse law unless they have an inheritance like ancient families."
"Last but not the least are the supreme laws. They number only ten and are a notch above the other laws. While it is generally believed that there is no strong or weak law, the truth is that among cultivators of the same level, those with an affinity to supreme laws are unrivaled. They are the law of space, time, chaos, life, death, creation, and destruction."
"Each supreme law has its specialty, making them reign in their respective field...."
"Teacher, you only mentioned seven of the supreme laws." Ric suddenly interrupted Julian.
Julian looked at him with a chilling gaze that caused the huge boy to shiver.
"Do not interrupt me again!" he said, his eyes glowing red.
"Me telling you only seven means you don't need to know the others." He reprimanded coldly before his look of indifference returned.
"Now, while I said in the beginning that there are four categories of laws, the truth is that there are two exceptions."
All the students perked up. Most of them were already familiar with all Julian had said, but this was new to them.
"Evil laws!" Teacher Julian said gravely.
The faces of the outstanding five, Arlo, Arianne, Joe, and a few others changed.
"The evil law is classified as a semi-unique law. A unique law is one that one existence in all the universe can only wield. Mind you, that is not restricted to mortals. Be it the legendary gods, devils, or even the abhorred fiend race, only one existence can wield it."
"While the evil law is indeed wielded by one person, all his subjects would have access to it, which is why it is called a semi-unique law."
Letting out a sigh, Julian spoke with a deep voice:
"There is only one true unique law...."
All the students held their breath.
"...the law of Aether."
"Legend has it that no mortal has ever wielded it and it has only been seen in the realm of the gods albeit rarely."
Arlo's heart suddenly pounded against his ribcage.
