CHAPTER 216: ENIGMA - ANCIENT CITY I

Enigma Ancient City.

As an ancient city that was no worse than the Goldsborn city in its prestige, the Enigma - Ancient City had a population of nearly one hundred million.

However, today, a heavy gloom hung above the city as it descended into silence.

Within a great hall located at the end of the city facing the foot of the mountain…

A heated discussion was ongoing in the hall as several elders conversed with grave and concerned looks on their faces.

"A scout just reported that the city has been decimated and that too in just a few minutes." As one of the elders suddenly opened his mouth after connecting with his communication stone, the great hall quickly quietened down.

The Enigma Ancient city was ruled by the Enigma Ancient family. That was not their name but what they were called by the public.

The Ancient families never intervened in mundane affairs and always kept to themselves as long as their interests were not affected. Yet even among the seclusive ancient family, their Enigma family was rather secretive.

They had appeared within this lower world a short thousand years ago, and ever since then, they hid themselves within the great mountain on whose foot this city was created. Over time, the Enigma Ancient city was founded but not many knew many things about them. Their bloodlines and abilities were hidden, and so were their background. Due to their secretive nature, they were eventually called the Enigma Ancient Family, with the city they were living in also sharing the name.

This morning, one of their many scouts had reported the appearance of an army of corrupted within one of their neighboring cities.

They had not given the matter much thought as they couldn't interfere in such matters in the first place. Besides, this wasn't the first time demons had appeared, especially in these past five years, so they had thought the city would receive support from other major forces and the situation would be resolved swiftly.

But who would have thought that the city would be destroyed and that too in just a couple of minutes?

The fact that the city didn't receive any assistance also made the elders feel uneasy.

"We need to report this matter to the family head." After a long period of silence, one of the elders carefully spoke up.

"But he is in seclusion, and he seems to be at an important juncture." Another elder couldn't help but interject.

"Then what are we supposed to do?"

The elder who had suggested reporting to the family head sighed as he gazed to the front of the hall. There stood a magnificent throne which was currently empty, and by its side rested a much smaller throne with less grandiose on which a youth was currently sitting in silence.

All the elders couldn't help but gaze at their young master for help.

This young master was their hope for revival. He and his twin sister's bloodline was so pure that the family speculated it had regressed to their ancestral bloodline. Such great luck had not befallen their family this past millennium. Ever since they were cast out from the main family which was one of the hegemony forces that ruled the only star zone overseen by humans due to an incident that happened a thousand years ago, they had no choice but to cross an uncountable distance and hide in a small corner of the galaxy. But now, they could see their hope in getting back at the main branch.

Despite being in a lower world with a lower concentration of mana, their young master was still able to reach the third level Red-core stage before becoming an adult. His cultivation alone was already enough to rival many of the elders in the hall.

Brian's hair was a vibrant shade of emerald that seemed to glow even within the hall. His face shone with a level of maturity that didn't match his age, and several emotions flashed ever briefly within his eyes, his thoughts unreadable through his calm expression.

Seeing the elders rest their eyes on him, Brian didn't feel nervous in the slightest. Since an early age, he already knew he bore a great burden on his shoulders, one heavy enough to not only make him seek strength fast but mature quickly.

"Has the city's protective formation been deployed?" He questioned after some thoughts on the matter.

"Yes." An elder responded.

"At full power?" He inquired with a serious look.

"No..." The elder quickly shook his head, "The expenditure for deploying the formation at full power is so much and not one we can bear..."

"Deploy it at full strength!" Brian cut into the Elder's words, his voice sounding authoritative. He knew this elder was the one controlling the family's expenses and finances, but he couldn't believe that in such a time, his stingy nature would still kick in.

Despite feeling unwilling, the elder had no choice but to reluctantly nod his head.

"The safety of the city is at stake, and since we can't show much of our strength currently, we have no choice but to summon outside forces. Ask for help from the mercenaries in the city, and deploy the corps we have been training to fight for us."

The elders found no issues with his commands. The Elder in charge of finances quickly left to fulfill the instructions he received.

Another elder followed him to prepare the troops that would defend them.

Seeing the two elders leave, Brian fell into thoughts.

No matter how he racked his brain, he couldn't figure out why no other forces came to support the destroyed city.

It must be known that ever since the appearance of Demons, the Goldsborn family had created an alliance with other forces to swiftly take care of the evil abomination immediately when they were sighted.

Yet, for some reason, they had not appeared this time.

Moreover, the power of the army of corrupted this time couldn't be compared to previous times. They weren't on the same level.

'Giants…' Brian narrowed his eyes. As a branch family from one of the hegemony forces that ruled the galaxy, their family was privy to information that wasn't made public. That was why they knew just how significant it was for a giant to appear. If this information spreads, the entire dark galaxy will be thrown into chaos.

"Send someone to inform my mother and sister about what is going on. They would decide whether to inform my father or not." He decided to be very cautious with this matter. His father was secluded on the mountain, and his mother and twin sister were also cultivating there.

He had only come here to oversee this city in his father's place, after all, the reason it was created was to lay a foundation and create a formidable force that would support them in their future revenge. So this city was essential to their family.

"Young master is wise." The elders couldn't help but praise. They were very satisfied with his decisions. Despite wielding such strength at such a young age, he wasn't overconfident and arrogant. They were also amazed at how he could keep his calm in such a situation, something even they, with their age, failed to do.

Brian smiled slightly but still waved his hand to show he didn't do much. He was just about to open his mouth to address another issue when…

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

Four simultaneous explosions rocked the city. The great hall shook greatly under the impact, but luckily the material it was made from wasn't ordinary. Aside from a slight tremor, it remained standing.

The expression of the elders and Brain suddenly changed, and that feeling of unease that filled their hearts rapidly skyrocketed.

With their hearts beating fast against their chests, they quickly turned into flashes of light that left the hall.

When they appeared outside, their faces turned unsightly.

They could see smoke rising into the sky from four different directions.

"That is where the teleportation formations are located." An elder said anxiously.

Brian's young face became ugly as the Elder's words affirmed his thoughts.

Seeing the barrier surrounding the entire city and feeling the power emanating from it, his heart settled slightly.

'The defensive formation has been deployed at full force, so there shouldn't be any danger for the moment. But how were the teleportation formations destroyed?'

With his quick mind, he could already guess why the previous city didn't receive any support.

'There are traitors among us.' His ugly expression deepened when he arrived at this thought.

'We have to quickly investigate the situation and take care of the traitors, if not…'

With his thought here, he was about to command the elders to investigate the four directions, when he suddenly noticed the ground beneath his feet shake ever so slightly.

It seemed he wasn't the only one who noticed it, as the panicking elders also quietened down.

The ground continued to shake at the same frequency. The tremors started small, but soon after it's intensity increased.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of something heavy colliding with the ground entered Brian's ears, and the initial slight shaking of the earth had already evolved into earthquakes.

Brian and the elders could hear the commotion from the city wall and with their hearts in their throat, they quickly flew into the air.

But what they saw almost made their soul flee their bodies.

A titanic figure over 50m high was sprinting towards their city.

Every time his feet connected with the ground, his massive body was propelled forward as he crossed several kilometers with but a single step. Massive craters that resembled holes formed by a meteor colliding with the ground were left in his wake.

Brian's face turned paper white as he screamed atop his lungs.

"EVACUATE THE CITY!"

Alas, he was too late once again…

The giant took another step, the force propelling him into the air. With just this single jump, he swiftly bridged the distance to the city. With his body hunched in the air, he rammed into the barrier covering the city, and without any suspense, the sound of a mirror shattering filled the air.

BOOOOOOOOOM!

The giant fell back to the ground, his body propelled forward, leaving two bottomless ditches on the ground before he stabilized himself.

All the buildings on his path disappeared without a trace, and the surrounding two kilometers around him became a region of death.
