Chapter 88: Sea Monkey Business

It didn't take Elise too long to realize that her crew was quickly out numbered. A majority of the bandits had landed on the deck and all of them were armed with spears to puncture their foes. The only odd thing about these bandits were they were oddly short for human beings and all of them had strange clusters of antennas sprouting through their masks. All of them had two antennas with circular balls hanging at the ends like a jesters cap. The sole exception to this rule was the one in front who had three antennae.

This one seemed to be the leader to Elise as they maneuvered on his command.

Before anyone could utter a word, the leader removed his mask and Elise was stinned to silence. Turned out the small human bandit wasn't a human at all, but rather a small, sentient creature. It had large, dark shiny marble eyes, a pair of small nostrils and a fanged mouth. Elise had only seen these creatures in books of marine biology. They were none other than Sea Monkeys. An aquatic race of simians that could thrive in the land or in the ocean. Elise let out a squee to signify joy over how adorable the creatures was, but the bold captain stepped in front of her.

"I'll handle this, other captain," he said and crouched in his knees. "Luckily at the naval academy they thought me how to speak monkey…"

"Geez…" Tony snarked. "I wonder how dat came about. But then again, I always thought da naval guard was a bunch of apes with swords."

The good captain smiled off the insult. "A sailor is prepared for everything. Even communications with lesser beings."

The captain looked into the monkeys eyes. He let out an affected, "Ook ah ah ooh!"

Tito chuckled to Elise. "He's really going bananas now!"

The leader of the sea monkey bandits tilted his head. "Oo oo ah ah!" Archibell said supposedly imitating the creature.

The three antenna sea monkey glared at him "First off,"the creature said in a deep refined voice and took his monkey paw and slapped the captain in the face. "That's what you get for calling us inferior beings!"

Elise and Tony the Troutface gasped, but Tito and Sincirce chuckled. The witch in particular held up her shell phone to record the ensuing scene.

"What?" she squawked as Elise glared at her. "I'm trying to get this on Witchtok!"

The captain scrambled to his knees. "Hold the shell phone for a second, witchy woman. You suave simians can talk?"

"Of course we can talk, knave," the leader answered. "We"re hardly random apes."

"What are yeh then?" The captain demanded.

The cute but fearsome sea monkey crossed his arms. "We are the Monkin of the Sea, a proud race of exiled warriors!"

"You're warriors?" Elise said. "And you know how to talk?"

The sea monkey lead gazed out to sea with a forlorn expression. "We've been gone so long from our home that we had to learn the language of you homo sapians to survive on the high seas!"

"Where do you live?" Elise asked again.

"Dorsal Island," the leader answered. "An enormous island that looks like a shark's fin. We lived in the ocean peacefully until Master Mako and his Seven Deadly Fins attacked…"

"Who tha what?" Tony muttered but the Sea Monkeys thrust their spears at the crew.

"But that's no business to you outsiders!" the charismatic sea monkey leader said. "Now surrender your ship. We plan to comandeer an attack on Mako!"
