Chapter 77: There Is No Escape?

Chapter 77: There Is No Escape?

Just as they were about to make a break for it, Lyra blew a whistle and the giant reaper creeper came bounding down the hallway. His enormous girth plugging the hallway and preventing anyone from escaping.

Everyone turned around to see Lyra and Archibell's cabal of ex pirates blocking the other direction.

The crew all looked at each other.

"Every man for himself!" the Captain roared.

Before he could sprint away from his crew, Elise kicked him in the calves.

"Yowch!"

He looked down at Elise who had a sad expression on her face. "Please don't say that," she said. "That's how you created your enemies in the first place."

Archibell ruffled her hair. "You are a very wise woman of the sea, Captain Freckles. That was an old habit, but I'm fully ready to go down with my ship and crew."

Tony shook his head. "Speak for yerself, Cap'm. Some o' us don't want to end up a tuna sammich!"

"Or a beautiful sand-witch," Sincirce said, brushing her flowing blond hair.

"Or dead!" Tito said frankly.

Only Sugar Southerncross was silent, but her eyes were wide like she had witnessed something horrible inside the void in Lyra's chest.

"There is no escape!" Lyra said, very sure of herself. "For what mortal being can escape an emissary of death? Death always catches up with you in the end!"

"Arrrrr!" Archie said, raising a hand, but no other words escaped his mouth. "She's got a point there."

Elise whimpered clutching the trident tightly. "Ohhh how I wish we were safe on Sugar's ship!"

Before anyone could do anything, the pieces of the trident glowed gloriously golden. They levitated from Elise's hands, rising high up in the air. The pieces, along with her triploon, began to spin round and round until it made Elise dizzy and everyone was bathed in a golden light. Soon, she couldn't see...even with her bright red glasses. Her body began to revolve in circles, in a manner similar to the trident and she levitated into the air.

There was a loud poof and Elise was dropped onto the ground. Her glasses tumbled off and she couldn't see anything from her blurry vision. She felt like a naked mole rat in a dress frantically searching for her glasses. "Please!" she cried. "Someone help me find my glasses before we're all pushing daisies!"

"Looking for these?" a suave yet squawky voice said. Before Elise knew it, she was holding her glasses.

Fixing them on her face, she beheld the location she was. "What the shell?!" she muttered in her high, sweet voice. "We're on the...."

"The Cowpoker!" Archibell said as he extended his hands, revealing the cowprinted Captain's quarters of Sugar Southerncross.

"She sells sea shells!" Elise exclaimed. "I'm positively starfish eyed! How did we get here?"

Archibell repeated her question. "How did we get here...is an existential question I ask myself every morning. Especially when I've had too much to drink and wake up next to a strange old bar maid!"

"Actually," Tito said, fondly taking her hand. "I think it's because of those magical trident pieces, Elise."

"Woooooow..." Elise said, her mouth hanging open and slightly drooling.

"You're that amazed huh?" Tito asked.

"No," Elise said, blushing. "You are finally calling me by name."

Tito quickly blushed too and pulled his hand away. "Er...uh...it was slip of the tongue!"

"Or you like me!" Elise said, a wide smile across her dimply face.

She pursed her thin lips together. "I think it's time to give my noble hero a kissy kiss!"

Tito ran as fast as he could away from his unwanted admirer, but he wasn't watching where he was going and bumped straight into a much more imposing woman than Elise. Sugar Southerncross stood tall and proud, towering over the young boy. Her spurs jingled at her feet.

"I think," she said in her thick southern sea drawl. "Y'all forget whose ship you're really on! Now I have the trident thanks to you cattle rustlers!"

"No..." Elise said, shaking her hand as she clutched the pieces of the trident. "It's ours! We're gonna restore the Sea King!"

"Oh really?" Sugar said, rolling her eyes. "You and whose army? Especially since it is I, the great cowgirl of the Sea who has the army. Oh boooooys!"

Sugar blew a whistle, and before the Lyre's crew could move, they were surrounded by the entire inbred crew of the Cowpoker.

Sugar Southerncross smirked as Archibell, Elise, Tony, Tito and Sincirce all cowered before the might of her army.

"Now are y'all gonna come quietly or do I need to get out tha cattleprod?"
