Chapter 29: A Witch's Baggage + High Quality Art

Fortunately for Elise, Sincirce caused the Forest of Reminscimemory to part for the crew of the Lyre, (the trees bended to give way to sunlight as they walked through the formerly traumatic forest) but unfortunately, she brought something monstrous with her. Right when they arrived at the ship, Sincirce cried, "Waaaaait!"

She blew a whistle and the ground began to rumble. Elise trembled as a tremor rocked the whole island. Did Sincirce have an enormous pet cyclops she couldn't bear to part with? Soon, they realized it was equally bothersome, but quite fitting for a vain witch.

An enormous powder blue wardrobe lumbered down the beach, and most peculiarly, it had two matching powder blue legs carrying it. The draws themselves occasionally belched up a stray sock, but otherwise, it seemed a perfectly convient way to carry an entire wardrobe.

"Sheeeesh lady," Archibell shouted, shaking his head. "I know ya come with baggage, but this is ridiculous."

"Yes," Sincirce smirked, and she pointed at the ship. "I'm very fashion forward. Now fashion, go forward."

The wardrobe marched forward and leaped onto the ship. Archibell squawked and covered his eyes. "This blimey wardrobe is gonna sink the Lyre."

Sincirce merely cackled and winked. "I've jinksed it to be as economic as possible. You're welcome."

"I still can't believe you need so many clothes," Tito said, shaking his head. "My mom doesn't have half as much as you!"

"Well now," Sincirce scoffed with her hand to her mouth. "I'm hardly a basic witch."

"Yeah," Tito chuckled. "More like a basic b…" but Sincirce interupted him.

"Which color button would you like," Sincirce asked, and stretching out her hand, she clutched a shiny red, blue and green button.

"What are those for?" Tito asked, suddenly nervous.

The devious catlike smirk returned to Sincirce's face as she loomed over Tito. "For you to button your lip. Sowing children's mouths shut is my speciality."

Tito let out a cry and hid behind Elise. She didn't mind that at all.

"See, I told yous," Tony the Troutface whimpered. "She's one unhinged son of a witch!"

Sincirce edged towards Tito with a crazy look in her eyes. "I'll sow this idiot's mouth shut as an added bonus."

As the crew continure to squabble (and Tito hid behind her) Elise giggled. At least Sincirce was an entertaining addition to her motley crew.

Once they were aboard the Lyre, everyone gathered around Sincirce as the boat rocked back and forth.

"Well," Archibell remarked with his hands through his belt "It's time for you to make yourself useful, witch. Are you clairvoyant?"

"No…." Sincirce uttered and everyone's hands and mouths dropped.

"But I thought," Archibell stammered.

"Correction," Sincirce smirked with her hands on her cheeks. "My name is not Clair Voyant, but I am a bit of a diviner myself."

"Her sense of humor is hardly divine," Tony shouted from Archibell's hands but Sincirce used her manicured fingers to close his fish lips.

"You seek the trident, right?" Sincirce asked and everyone nodded.

"The only issue," Sincirce said. "Is I need a piece of the item to divine where the rest of it is."

Everyone shook their heads in disbelief.

"Aww," Elise peeped up, making her eyes wide and shiny. "Can you at least try?"

Sincirce ruffled Elise's hair. "Being the only other girl in this plankfest, how can I resist that plea?"

Sincirce eyed Elise's gold piece around her neck, and then placed both hands in a curving arc on her head. She began to chant a bunch of funny words. "Flippity, flippity, hoighty toighty, zim zam zoom, show me where the item is, ka-boom!"

There was the sound of a thunderbolt cracking off in the distance and Sincirce threw up her arms with a loud "weeeeeeee!"

A dream cloud appeared above her head, showing a large verdent island full of castle-like mansions.

Sincirce had a knowing expression. "My divining worked...but how?"

"No time for that," Archibell squawked. "I can't believe that's the location!"

"Where is that?" Elise asked softly.

"Mainland Isle," Archibell said with misty eyes. "My home. Which I haven't been since I disembarked with Lyra all those years ago."

Elise put her finger to her chin. "You mean where you mommy and daddy live?"

"Aye…" Archibell said. "I haven't seen them since, well, I became a pirate. I can only imagine the choice words they'd have for me."

"I'm sure they'd miss you very much," Elise said with a head nod. "That's what parents are supposed to do."

"We'll see," Archibell said, "I'm not saying I'm gonna visit them."

Even though Elise anxiously looked at him, the captain shook his head. "There's a gulf of consequences between us now,"--he smiled and ruffled her hair--"Another thing you'll understand when you're older."

Archibell turned to Tito and Sincirce. "Alright my trusty navigator and my not-so-trusty witch, how do we get to the mainland from here?"

Sincirce glared at him, but Tito merely laughed and pulled out a sea chart. "I'm surprised the good cap'm doesn't know his own way home."

Archibell put his hand behind his head. "I try to avoid that place when I can."

"Anyways," Tito said and held up the chart. "It's not too far north from Jack O'Lanclave isle. We'll be there by noon at least!"

"Such a shame," Archibell said, shaking his head. "I wish it took longer."

But the captain reluctantly redirected the ship in the direction of his homeland. Elise found it odd that she was more excited than he was.

Elise watched from the starboard as they traveled north. She dreamed of what kind of parents the captain and the admiral had. Were they funny and squawky like them? Maybe his parents were two brightly colored parrots! Maybe the parrot parents had tiny humans that sat on their shoulders instead of vice versa.

As an island with towering white cliffs approached them, she peered through her telescope. The buildings were all elegantly painted white with golden highlights. They were made of elegantly carved and polished white stone and made the cliffs seem even higher. Elise could hardly believe what it was like to live in such noble palaces like the captain and she wondered why he didn't miss them. Unfortunately, when she looked down from the cliffs, she saw why.

Floating in the cerulean waters on the bright sunny afternoon was a fleet of ships. They too were elegant and majestic with steam puffing out the top of their smokestacks. When Elise peered even further, she saw a man of tanned skin and a modern major admiral's uniform. He pointed at the Lyre and ran back to the center of his deck. Elise gulped. It was Admiral Archibell and he had blockaded them.
