"Queen Annabell!" one of the noble townsfolk cried. "Her eye!"
"I'm not Queen Annabell anymore," the 12 year old girl snickered in a voice much deeper than Chloe's. "And I'm not this cute little nickname she calls himself either."
"That voice," the admiral cried. "That voice. I haven't heard it since I was a sparky seaside scamp."
Captain Archibell shook his head too in disbelief. "That voice. Scallops law! Is it…?"
Both brothers cried in unison. "Rosemary Blackswan."
"None other…" Chloe guffawed. "And I was enjoying this little game of 'courting' for a little while, but,"--she yawned in a sultry manner--"I grow tired of such a charade. Who knew the legal process was so drawn out and dreadfully dull."
"You…" the minister cried. "What have you done with Queen Annabell?!"
Chloe's demon eye slid towards him, detached from her other eye. The old man whimpered and held up a dagger, but she sang a high shrill high note and blasted the minister onto the ground. "Oh dear," Rosemary said, "My singings a bit rusty, or could this girl simply be tone-deaf...like most snot nosed brats."
"Archibells?!" Sincirce asked jealously. "Who is this demon diva and why does she think she can upstage me?"
The admiral shook his head and squawked. "When I knew Rose, she was frail and fragile. She was a singer but certainly no diva. Her visit to the Everworld must have changed her. But why in the nautical name is she possessing the queen of the Mainland?"
Rosemary's eyes were downcast. "My soul separated from its body when I contracted Ghost blight and drifted for eternity...or fifteen years at least. But in limbo, I managed to come across the king of demon pirates, Fienmond and he and I struck up a deal. After all, we both despised Captain Archibell…"
"Wait what?!" Captain Jonas Archibell squawked. "You despised me, Rosemary?! I know why that freak Fienmond despises me but you…?"
"Yes…" the sultry singer said. "You lead my dear sister Lyra to her demise and it was all for naught. And what do you do? You run like a yellow livered coward rather than stand by her like a true man. I've seen jellyfish with more of a spine than you!"
The good captain was silent. Elise couldn't help but think how he could never catch a break from karma.
Rosemary in Chloe's body cast her hand forward. "Fienmond sealed my spirit inside a magic demon's eye and stuck me in the princess of the Mainland where we plotted our revenge. He killed her parents and before I knew it, I was inside the most powerful individual in the whole Western Sea."
"Gotta admire that, Fienmond," Sincirce sneered. "He's awfully clever."
"Hey witch," Tony snapped. "Don't praise da enemy here!"
"Am I?" Sincirce winked. "I forgot."
Chloe's body signed. "I grow tired of laying dormant in this little girl's body," Rosemary remarked. "Fienmond had bigger plans for her, but he'll have to be satisfied with our absolute revenge on you, Captain Coward!"
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
Captain Archibell gulped. His hands were chained and so were all of his allies. Chloe's body began to march towards Elise, Captain Archibell and her allies. But before she reached them, she heard the creaking of an elderly voice.
"Daughter…" Aiko said. "S-stop!"
Chloe's demon eye swiveled unaturally to the mother of Rosemary and Lyra. Her old body was shaking. "I don't know if it's really you, Rosy, or a demon doppelganger using your voice, but please, resist the urge to have revenge on him."
Chloe's turned to face Aiko, a sinister and almost catlike smirk on her face. "Fie on you mother for believing such a cowardly con-artist could ever accomplish anything. He lead my sister to the same end as me fifteen years ago."
"I...know…" Aiko said, "But...but…"
Chloe's eyebrow lifted. "But what?!"
"It was what Lyra wanted…" the old woman croaked.
"You pitiful old crone," Chloe giggled. "Sometimes mother doesn't know best. Now, have a taste of my rising scale."
Chloe screamed in an operatic pitch, "Doremi Faso Tornado!"
Aiko was hit with a geyser of wind. It sent her spiralling on a bevy of vicious and spiked operatic notes. Everyone watched in horror as her body went skyward before falling back down on the ground with a sickening crack.
"Daughteeeer…" Aiko rasped.
"I cannot believe…" the admiral stammered. "You did that to your own mother. What kind of person are you?"
"I'm not a person anymore," Chloe said with her head turning with a click. "I'm a demon! And soon your brother will be next!"
The admiral turned his eyes to face the Lyre's crew and especially the boat's captain. Both Archibells locked eyes with each other for what seemed like an eternity.
"Please," Captain Jonas Archibell asked his brother. "Bro, I know I can't make up for Lyra, but let us fight this demon together!"
The noble admiral looked around helplessly, staring between Chloe possessed by the devil herself and the brother who had led his fiance to an early grave.
"I can't…" the admiral said.
The Lyre's crew either protested or looked at the modern major admiral with sorrow in their eyes.
"I thought a man in a uniform was supposed to be trustworthy," Sincirce bemoaned.
"I thought you had a sailor's code," Tito said, trying to look tough. "Guess not."
"No…" the admiral said at last and he struck a goofy yet triumphant pose with one hand pointing in the air. "I can't...let you pirates be killed by this demon freak. The Lyre's crew are mine to deal with! Lord Cornbury, get your keys!"
"But studamuffin," the fop with the widows peak carried on. "They're prisoners!"
The admiral shouted at the top of his lungs. "We'll all be prisoners of Uncle Davy's locker if they can't battle this fiend!"
The lord fop continued to grovel until the admiral took his sabre and smacked Florian on the rear end with it.
"Yowie!" The fop cried and leaped through the air. "Actually I kinda liked that."
The fop dashed as fast as his red bum could take him and unlocked every single handcuff, ranging from Elise and Tito to Sincirce and the good captain. Captain Jonas Archibell winked at his brother. "Good going, bro. That's the first time we've ever gotten along."
"Don't expect that to continue sea swine!" the admiral shouted and tossed the captain a rapier.
Sincirce's fingers dazzled with magic. "Oh magic, how I've missed thee!" she cried. "Hocus focus... on me!"
She was enraptured in light and when everyone's eyes adjusted, Sincirce was back in her seductress witches outfit with her turquoise checkered hat and her purple skirt billowed in the wind. The disembodied saxophones played a saucy tune to accompany her transformation.
"Ooh yeah, baby," Sincirce said, rolling her head and smirking. "I always like to be dressed for the occasion!"
"So do I," Lord Cornbury said, and he pulled a string on his pants. They poofed up like a theater actor's costume, causing many people to gape at his very round poofy pants. He drew his purple plume feather sword and together, everyone turned to face Rosemary.
"Time for a real operatic tragedy!" the dark dame snickered in Chloe's body.
