Chapter 29: The Group's First Quest!

Chapter 29: The Group's First Quest!

The next morning, Kyle woke irritable and achy.  His bed had been soaked, so he’d been forced to sleep in the guest bed upstairs while his mattresses and all aired out.  The room was colder than his, with a slight perpetual draft from the frame around the window, where it had warped slightly over the years.  Rolling out of bed with a grunt, he stomped in his room, half-expecting to see Fanny still scribbling insanely in the corner, but she wasn’t.  Sometime during the night while he was tossing and turning and dreaming up ways to get revenge, she’d finished and snuck down the stairs quietly.

Not really caring what he grabbed, Kyle tossed off his sweatpants and dressed in a rush to head out to school.  As soon as he was ready, he grabbed his book bag and stomped on down the stairs and out the door.  Slamming the door behind him, he stomped about halfway to Sera’s house, did a U-turn, and stomped back inside.  Grabbing the house keys from the ashtray near the door, he stomped back out and shut the door gently behind him this time.  Slamming it twice wouldn’t add to the dramatic effect, and would just be childish, in his opinion.

Stomping back over to Sera’s again, Kyle let himself through the sliding door at the kitchen and went upstairs without saying a word.  Getting in Sera’s room, he sat his book bag down and immediately yanked on her blanket and tugged it off her.  She was wearing the same shirt and pair of his sweatpants that she’d left in last night, and Kyle gave her a swift slap across the ass.  “Wake up!  We’re getting out of here,” he demanded.

When she moaned and tried to turn over to go back to sleep, Kyle gave her another pop on the rear, and then shook her left and right.  “Wakey wakey,” he called.

“Quit it,” Sera mumbled sleepily.

“Fine, Sleeping Beauty!”  Kyle snorted and leaned down and pressed his lips firmly against hers and kissed her.  Much to his surprise, she almost immediately brought her arms up, wrapped them around his neck, and kissed him back.  Neither of them were the best kissers in the world, but neither of them complained about it being bad after Sera finally let go of him several long moments later.  It was the first time Kyle had ever had his tongue in a girl’s mouth, and he kept rubbing it across the inside of his teeth as if he could still almost taste hers there.

Grinning for the first time that morning, Kyle finally told her a little more gently, “Get up.  We have things to do this morning.”

“Fine.”  Sera stretched a few times and Kyle went over and opened her dresser drawer and started pulling out clothes and tossing them back over his shoulder at her.  A school shirt, skirt, and pair of socks got tossed over his shoulder.  Laughing, Sera yanked off what she was wearing and threw them back over his head to land on the dresser.  Panties, shirt, and sweatpants scattered around and Kyle took time to gather them up and place them in a neat pile to take to the laundry later.  Being around Fanny, and picking up after her, had made Kyle somewhat of a neat freak about things like that.

By the time he finally turned around, Sera was buttoning the last buttons on the shirt.  “I’m ready,” she said.  “But I don’t know what we’re doing yet.”

“You’ll see,” Kyle told her with a smirk.  Going over to the door, he grabbed up her book bag along with his and started on out and down the steps.  “Grab your jacket, we’re leaving without breakfast this morning.  We’re just going to walk.”

Sera just nodded and slid into her school jacket at the front door and followed him on outside.  Out of meanness, Kyle left the door wide open – just as he had the sliding door in the kitchen earlier – and left it.  Sera snorted, and almost as if she could read his mind, didn’t bother to close it either.   “Serves them right, after tossing that ice water on us last night,” she said and Kyle just nodded.

After a few moments of walking down the sidewalk, Sera moved up and snuggled close to Kyle’s side, before wrapping her arm around his back.  “It’s cold out here this morning.”  It wasn’t much cooler than what Kyle was normally used to, but Sera almost never walked to school; she always waited and got a ride with her parents.  After a moment’s hesitation, he draped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her up close to his side.  Feeling her tremble slightly, he glanced over and almost tripped off the curb staring at the two obvious peaks bulging up in her shirt.

Learning over to whisper in her ear, he asked, “Where’s your bra this morning?”

Sera just shrugged her shoulders slightly against him. “You didn’t toss me one, and we were in a hurry.  It’s not a big deal.”

“Yeah,” Kyle gulped.  “It’s two big deals!”

Sera just laughed lightly and snuggled in a little closer.  “And it’s breezy this morning too.  The bra isn’t all you forgot to toss me in your rush to go!”

Kyle blinked and thought for a moment about what he’d tossed her and what she’d tossed him in return.  After a moment, he blushed realizing his mistake.  “You could’ve grabbed a pair yourself you know. Before we left!”

“And why would I do something like that on the day we got married?  I just figured you didn’t want me to have any this morning.”  Sera swayed her hips and bumped them against him lightly.  Was she?  Or was she not?  She could’ve had another pair sitting on the nightstand or something near the bed, and was just teasing him.  How the heck would he ever know?

Should he ask the owl?

Lost in his own thoughts, Kyle almost passed where he wanted to go this morning and had to stop abruptly and pull Sera back with him.  “In here,” he told her as he strode up towards the massive church nearby.

“What are we doing going in there,” Sera asked all curiously.

“Our homework of course,” he said with a grin.  Confused, Sera followed close to his side, and went inside when he grandly opened one of the front doors for her.  Catching up to her, Kyle told her, “Keep an eye open.  We need to speak to someone who’s working in here this morning.”

“Uhhh… Sure.”  Sera looked around for a moment, and then tugged his arm and pulled Kyle off to where a young man sat in a black set of clothes.  “Excuse me, Father?”

“Yes?  Can I help you?”

“I hope so, I need to confess something,” Kyle said while smiling lightly.

“Well I’m sorry,” the young man told him.  “This is a Protestant Church; and I’m a Pastor, not a Father.   We don’t do confessions here.”

Kyle laughed lightly.  “That’s OK.  I was just going to confess that we hadn’t did our homework yet.  If you guys do weddings in here, I’m hoping you can still help us.”

Looking a little puzzled, the man nodded.  “We do weddings.  What do you need help with?”

“Our Government Class asked us to do a report on wedding ceremonies and such things, and we needed to try and get some of the paperwork to present to the class to help show what it takes to keep the Country running.  Other students got different assignments, but since the teacher was picking on us for flirting in class, she made us do the marriage report.   When we got to the Courthouse, the guy there told us that they were currently out of the forms which are normally filled out after a wedding, but that we could probably get one at any church.

“Since you guys are between us and the school, it’d be a big help if we could get one of those from here, if possible.”

The young man smiled lightly.  “I don’t think that’ll be a problem.  Give me just a few moments and I’ll get you a certificate for the couple, and one of the court certificates as well.”

“Thank you a lot!”  Sera said while rubbing her hands to get some warmth back in them.

The pastor nodded and walked into a nearby office and was gone for just a few minutes.  When he came back, he had a stack of papers in each hand.  “One for each of you?” He asked.

“Oh, no thanks.”  Kyle took one and shook off the other.  “We just need one set as a team.  The teacher will make copies at school and hand them out if she thinks everyone else needs one.  I think we’re really just going to pass them back and forth and look at them for a bit.  I don’t think I’ll be needing one of these for a looong time.”

“Well, maybe if I get pregnant,” Sera said with a smirk at Kyle.

“I don’t think so!”  He burst out in reply.

“You know, we do offer couple’s therapy sessions,” the pastor offered helpfully.  “We’d be more than happy to help guide you to a life of proper marriage and not just carnal desire, or a life of sin, you know.”

“We might take you up on that later,” Sera said with a twinkle in her eye.  “But right now, my sweetie and me have to rush so we’re not late for school.”  Laughing, she tugged on Kyle’s arm while he was making a face like a fish on a hook as he was dragged along behind her.

Getting outside, Kyle just stared at her as she snuggled back up close.  “Marriage counseling?  Pregnant! What the heck was that all about?”

Sera just giggled and shrugged.  “I dunno.  I was just playing along.  What the heck did we need these for anyway?”

“Simple,” Kyle said.  “We’re going to get married.”

It was Sera’s turn to stop and stare at him like a fish on a hook.  “Whaaa??”

Kyle laughed, pulled her up close, and pushed her on down the street towards the school with him.  “No really of course.  What we’re going to do is have Jason help photoshop these to make us a few copies.  I’ll get William to make a run to the actual Courthouse and get a copy of a few marriage certificates already on file; it won’t take him long to do that, and then Jason can fake one with a seal and signature.  We’ll stuff them in a few envelops, have Darryl drop them in the post office near his house since it’s in the other direction, so it’ll have a different postmark than one from home.

“And then we’ll wait for our parents to get them.  They’ll think that priest – I’ve seen him outside this church before, you know – must’ve accidently sent in our names.  Mom and Franklin will freak.  Fanny though, she’ll probably use it as a plot in a book or something…”

Sera was starting to giggle and half bounce beside him.  “Heather can help too!  She’s got a calligraphy set and is really good at that stuff.  She can make it look all neat, hand written, and official.  We just have to tell her what to put on the forms.”

“Let’s do it!”

Both of them were grinning evilly with thoughts of revenge running through their heads as they finally arrived at the school.  In some ways, it was the group’s first quest!
