Chapter 31 - A Lavish Soirée (Part 2)

The ballroom reserved by Simon Oscar to celebrate his grandchildren's registration as Psions was a sight to behold. The grand chandeliers cast a warm, golden light across the polished marble floor, while the intricate tapestries adorning the walls. Waiters dressed in uniforms weaved through the crowd, offering champagne and hors d'oeuvres to the dressed guests who were conversing and speculating on the abilities of the twins.

Timothy Brink entered the dazzling ballroom with his mom and dad, their eyes scanning the room for familiar faces. Spotting Kristine, Timothy's face brightened, and he tugged at his parents' hands, guiding them toward her. He wore a small white suit as he pulled his parents' hands, smiling happily despite the trauma he had experienced recently.

However, earlier in the day, Timothy had been hiding in his bedroom, still traumatized by the attack yesterday. He was angry at his parents' insistent denial that there was no reason why anyone would hold a grudge against him. He knew that they were keeping secrets from him.

His emotions swirled within him as he hid underneath the quilt, a mix of frustration, anger, and sadness. A result of his parents' refusal to tell him the truth.

Suddenly, his new bodyguard, who replaced the one that died during the attack on the center, knocked on the door. The memory of his bodyguard's death haunted him, and he couldn't shake the feeling of vulnerability. Timothy allowed the bodyguard, named Elliot, to enter his room. Elliot informed Timothy that he had received an invitation to Christopher's and Kristine's party.

"If you don't want to go, I can decline the invitation on your behalf," Elliot offered.

"No need," Timothy quickly said before hopping off the bed. He felt like seeing Kristine again would help him through the trauma.

As Timothy shared the news with his parents, they were surprised to see their son's mood had changed so quickly. They were even more astonished when they learned that their son's saviors were part of the prestigious Oscar family.

As they neared, Timothy saw Kristine, one of the stars of the party, quickly walking off the dance floor. Her strides resembled a model's, and her posture appeared professional. Unbeknownst to them, this was the result of a combination of skills provided by the "Angel and Devil" System. His parents, visibly grateful, extended their hands to Kristine.

"I am Vanessa Brink, and you probably have heard of my husband, Richard Brink," Timothy's mother, Vanessa Brink said, eager to form a relationship with the young girl.

"Yes, of course," Kristine replied, her voice filled with warmth and grace. "It's a pleasure to meet both of you."

She examined Timothy's parents more closely, paying attention to their unique features. His mother, a stunning Eurasian woman, had striking coal-black eyes contrasting with her delicate and light smile. Her dark hair cascaded down her back, framing her high cheekbones and adding an air of elegance to her appearance. She carried herself with pride, and a hidden arrogance could be seen in her demeanor.

On the other hand, Timothy's father, Richard Brink, the renowned healer Psion, was a tall, well-built Caucasian man with warm brown eyes that exuded kindness and empathy. His strong jawline and broad shoulders hinted at a quiet strength, while his short, neatly groomed hair gave him a distinguished yet approachable appearance. His demeanor was gentle, and his voice carried a calm reassurance that was undoubtedly comforting to those he healed. He resembled the ideal healer, looking as if he could be a priest class in a video game. Observing his warm and kind appearance, Kristine wondered how anyone could hold a grudge against him.

"Thank you so much for saving our son Timothy yesterday," Richard Brink said.

Kristine smiled warmly, brushing off the praise with humility. "It was a team effort, really. It was all thanks to me, my brother Christopher, and Timothy's Psionic powers that saved the day. We all worked together."

Timothy's mother, Vanessa, noticed the close bond that was developing between Kristine and her son. Suddenly, an idea formed in her mind. She wanted to pair her son with Kristine. Her eyes took on a pragmatic glint, and her expression shifted, becoming calculating and shrewd.

Kristine, sensing the change, felt a shiver of unease run down her spine. She suddenly realized that Vanessa's eyes held a familiar, unsettling similarity to the scheming adults she had encountered earlier in the evening. Her suspicions seem to be correct as she read the notification from the "Angel and Devil System".

She couldn't help but feel uncomfortable by the sudden, overwhelming interest from Timothy's mother. She turned to Timothy with a forced smile, desperate to escape the intensity of his mother's gaze.

"Timothy, would you like to dance?" she asked, hoping to put some distance between herself and Vanessa.

"Okay!" Timothy's eyes lit up with excitement, and he eagerly accepted the invitation. As they moved onto the dance floor, Kristine tried to put her concerns about Vanessa's intentions out of her mind, focusing instead on the joy of dancing and her friendship with Timothy.

"Have fun," Richard said, smiling warmly.

As Kristine and Timothy made their way to the dance floor, hand in hand, Richard Brink observed his wife, Vanessa, with a disapproving expression. He had noticed the calculating glint in her eyes and the sudden shift in her demeanor. Richard knew his wife intimately enough to understand her intentions, and he was deeply concerned about the impact her scheming could have on their son's newfound friendship with Kristine.

"Vanessa, what are you doing?" he chided, his voice soft yet firm, "You almost scared away our son's friend."

Upon hearing her husband's words, Vanessa's face flushed a deep crimson, and she looked momentarily embarrassed. Deep down, she knew her husband was right, but the allure of forming an alliance with Kristine and her family had been too tempting for her to resist. The possibility of securing a more prosperous future for their family had clouded her judgment.

"You're right, Richard," she conceded, acknowledging her mistake. "I got carried away."

Richard, sensing his wife's genuine remorse, nodded. Placing a reassuring hand on Vanessa's shoulder, he said, "Good, please let our son enjoy this night with his new friend. He needs this."

Meanwhile, as Timothy and Kristine ventured onto the dance floor, their movements were a far cry from the graceful, synchronized performance Kristine had shared with her brother earlier in the evening. Yet, thanks to the ball dancing skills she had acquired from the System, Kristine was able to adapt seamlessly to the situation.

The dance was awkward and endearing, with Timothy often stepping on Kristine's toes and both of them stumbling frequently. Nevertheless, Kristine appreciated the clumsiness, as it served as a heartwarming reminder of Timothy's innocence and youth, a contrast to the strategic and competitive world they inhabited.

Kristine was thankful for Timothy's purity and the absence of romantic tension between them. Due to her past life as a male, she was more attracted to females, which made it simpler for her to relax and enjoy the dance with Timothy without any romantic pressure. In her mind, she affectionately labeled him as "cute" and "adorable," a testament to the genuine warmth she felt for him.

As they fumbled to find their rhythm amidst the swirling, glittering lights of the ballroom, Kristine laughed and gazed into Timothy's eyes, remarking, "You know, Timothy, you're really cute and adorable."

Timothy's eyes widened in surprise, and he stammered, "Really? You think so?"

Kristine nodded, her smile sincere and inviting. "Yes, absolutely. It's one of the things I like most about you."

A mix of embarrassment and frustration flushed Timothy's cheeks as he realized Kristine saw him as a child. Despite the minor age difference, he harbored a crush on her and longed to be treated as her equal. He decided to make a precocious promise to her. "Just wait, Kristine. When I grow up, I'll become a real man. I won't be cute anymore, but so handsome that I'll make you blush!"

Kristine felt a pang of guilt, aware of her preference for females due to her past life as a male. Nonetheless, she didn't want to discourage Timothy, so she smiled brightly and replied, "I can't wait to see it."

Timothy smiled just as brightly when he heard Kristine's reply.

Their laughter and smiles filled the air, creating a lighthearted atmosphere that stood in contrast to the interactions that Kristine had earlier in the evening.
