Chapter 14 - A Relapse

Kristine rushed out of her family's luxury car, her blonde hair still damp from her rushed shower. She quickly sprinted towards the school's gym and basketball court, her sports shoes pounding against the concrete walkway. As she approached the gym, she pushed open the doors and was immediately greeted by the cacophony of cheers and shouts.

On the basketball court, Kristine found her twin brother, Christopher playing on the home team. It was already in the midst of the final game of the playoffs for the boy's basketball team. A victory in this match would secure their school a spot in the semifinals with a 3-0 record in the playoffs.

Christopher was just as skilled as Kristine, but he had a different approach to the game. Instead of playing fair and following the rules, he fouled his opponents in ways that the referee couldn't detect.

He elbowed them in the ribs or tripped them when they were running, ensuring they fell and hurt themselves. He also gave them a light nudge when they were trying to shoot, causing them to miss the basket. He would also flop to draw penalty shots.

When the opposing players tried to complain to the referee, Christopher used his charm and charisma to convince the officials that he was innocent.

As Coach Johnson, the coach of the boy's basketball team, watched Christopher execute his unsportsmanlike tactics on the court, he frowned. "Coach Maison sure is lucky to have Kristine on her team," he thought, envious of his coworker. "If only Christopher could be more like his sister." The coach had always admired Kristine's ability to lead her team as the girl's basketball captain and her unwavering sportsmanship. Unlike her brother, she never resorted to dirty tactics. He didn't like Christopher's playstyle in comparison but he never said anything. After all, they were winning games thanks to Christopher's dirty tactics, unaware that the boy can obtain the same results if he played fairly too.

Kristine also didn't mind this method as long as Christopher didn't get into trouble. She knew that Christopher was capable of winning while playing fair but she couldn't deny that his methods were effective at obtaining Hatred Points.

999 Hatred Points from Jake Haywood

462 Hatred Points from ….

256 Hatred Points from ….

The home team fans didn't care as long as they were winning and Christopher was scoring. They erupted in cheers as he scored a free throw and began to chant his name.

"Chris!"

"Chris!"

"Chris!"

Kristine couldn't help but feel surprised when she also heard chanting from her music students, Peter and Anne. They were chanting at the top of their lungs and did not even notice their music teacher entering the arena. She remembered how she almost had a heart attack when she saw their notifications of Hatred points during her basketball game just a few days ago.

She was relieved to see that they had already forgiven Christopher's rude behavior in the music room. Although she couldn’t help but wonder if they were too forgiving because of their reverence for people with musical talent. As Kristine pondered, she noticed one of her students finally notice her.

"Oh hey, K-Kristine, we saved a seat for you," stuttered Peter as he blushed. Kristine realized that her hair was still damp and parts of her blouse clung to her wet skin from the shower, revealing her fair skin underneath. She embarrassingly covered herself with her jacket before sitting down next to them and watching the game.

As the game went on, Christopher couldn't help but be distracted by the number of notifications he was receiving. He failed to notice that one of his opponents, a burly athlete named Jake Haywood, was reaching his breaking point. The boy was red-faced and panting, and his fist tightened with anger and hatred.

“This is my last year and I had enough of Christopher Williams. “Jake thought to himself. “Two championship wins with this shitty playstyle.” He had faced Christopher on the court multiple times in the past few years and had grown tired of his dirty tactics and foul play. As a senior, this was his last chance at a championship win.

"Such an ideal lolcow," Christopher thought as he stared at the red-faced Jake, He was using slang from his days as an internet troll. A lolcow was someone who could be milked for laughs, but in Jake's case, he was being milked for Hatred points. Christopher couldn't help but smirk at how many points he was receiving as a result of Jake's anger.

As the game went on, Jake finally snapped after a vicious foul from Christopher that went unpunished. “Fuck you, Williams," Jake cursed, throwing a punch at Christopher with a sudden burst of anger. His fist reached its target. It impacted Christopher's face with a sickening thud, causing him to stumble back and fall onto the ground.

Christopher laid on the ground, dazed, in pain, and struggling to breathe. His nose was bleeding and likely broken from the force of the punch. He struggled to catch his breath as the metallic smell of blood filled his nose. Unfortunately, he had been so focused on milking Jake for Hatred points that he didn't even see the punch coming.

Jake continued and charged at Christopher who was still on the ground but now Christopher was ready for him. His knowledge of martial arts from the system quickly kicked in. As Jake charged at him, Christopher performed a leg sweep, tripping the burly athlete and sending him stumbling to the ground.

But Christopher wasn’t done yet. He quickly got to his feet with one hand holding his bleeding nose. He took a few steps backward before launching into a full sprint toward Jake, who was still struggling to get back on his feet. "My perfect face," Christopher thought, his anger boiling over. Someone had ruined his flawless appearance. He couldn’t even count the amount of Love points his sister spent on their appearance instead of obtaining useful skills.

In his rage, Christopher reared his right leg back and delivered a full sprint football kick to Jake's face while he was still on the floor. Jake’s head snapped back from the impact like a field goal. He let out a cry of pain as his blood sprayed from his mouth. His teeth launched out of his mouth and bounced against the waxed gym floor.

The crowd erupted in cheers and boos. Many believed his actions were in self-defense since Jake attacked first. Others thought Christopher’s kick was too cruel. He had crossed the line and went too far.

Christopher grinned as he watched Jake groan in pain on the ground, his teeth scattered across the court. "Looks like this lolcow's milk has run dry," he joked, sniffling as his nasal cavity filled with blood. At this point, he didn’t care anymore.

"It's my last year of middle school. I might as well go out with a bang." Christopher thought. It was too bad that he would miss the finals. He honestly enjoyed playing basketball for the past three years and felt he might've let his team down.

As Jake doubled over in pain, one of his teammates rushed forward to get revenge for their fallen teammate, but Christopher was ready. He quickly put on a fighting stance ready for the next challenger before a voice sounded in his mind.

“Don’t make this situation any worse”, his sister warned telepathically. As he looked around, he saw that the other players, including his own teammates and the referee, were staring at him in shock. He spotted Kristine in the stands, giving him the familiar disappointed look he had become accustomed to. He had broken the promise he had made to her.

He realized that he had gone too far and that he might face serious consequences for his actions. He hesitated and felt a twinge of guilt and regret, afraid of how Kris and their mom and dad would react. This moment of hesitation gave the other players and coaches enough time to storm onto the court, pulling Christopher back and separating the two. They had successfully prevented the fight from escalating any further.

"Kick him out! Kick him out!" The crowd began to chant louder as more people stormed the court.

After the crowd settled down, the referee stepped forward and announced, "Player Christopher Williams has been suspended from this game for unsportsmanlike conduct, effective immediately. He is also being ejected from the court." The seriousness of the situation was evident in the referee's firm tone. What happened on the court was not an altercation, but an assault.

Coach Johnson looked on in disbelief as Christopher was escorted off the court. He had always known that Christopher had a tendency to play dirty, but he never expected it would escalate like this. He turned to look at the rest of his players and they were all downtrodden. With Christopher, they had been on track for a third championship title. But now with him suspended, the future was uncertain.
