Chapter 12 - A Facesmacking Encounter

Chapter 12 - A Facesmacking Encounter

Kristine and Christopher returned home from school and they were immediately greeted by their mother, Nicole Williams. She immediately hugged Christopher tightly.

Both twins were surprised to see their mother. She had been very busy in past few years, acting as the CEO for the her father's company.

"Sweetie, I heard you were attacked and got into a fight at school," Nicole said to Christopher after releasing him. "Is everything okay? Do you want me to make that David boy pay?" A mix of worry and anger was etched on her face.

"It wasn't like that, Mom," Kristine interjected, trying to defend David. "Chris provoked him. It wasn't David's fault."

"Kristine, how could you say such a thing?" their mother reprimanded. "Your brother was attacked and you defend the person who did it? What kind of sister are you?"

Kristine winced as she heard her mother raise her voice. She was always so soft-spoken. The difference between the mother Kristine knew and her current mother still shocked her, even as someone with a past life as an adult.

"I'm sorry, Mom," Kristine said, her voice trembling. "But it's the truth. Chris provoked David."

Nicole saw Kristine's reaction and shook her head apologetically. "Sorry, dear. I'm still in CEO mode. But I can't believe you would take a stranger's side over your own brother," she said, disappointed. "I expect better from you, Kris."

"I'm not taking anyone's side," Kristine insisted. "I just want the truth to be known. Chris was the one who started the fight."

"Are you still defending that boy? Are you in love with him?" Nicole asked, eyeing Kristine suspiciously. "How do you know he wasn't trying to get close to you for your connections and wealth?" As the daughter of a billionaire CEO and she was all too familiar with suitors who were only interested in her for her family's wealth and status. She had initially suspected that her now-husband was the same until he proved her wrong.

Kristine sighed, realizing this was going nowhere. "I'm not in love with him," she said, trying to deflect the conversation. "I just think he's a good person, and Chris was in the wrong. That's all."

"Fine. But if that boy starts any more trouble, I'll make sure he's kicked out of this school and blacklisted. You hear me?"

Kristine nodded, knowing that it was pointless to argue with her mother. She knew that her mother loved her and her brother, but she was too overprotective.

Suddenly, their mother's phone rang. It was her secretary and family servant, Ashley, calling from the company to ask when she would return. They were in the middle of closing a new contract.

"Sorry, I have to go," Nicole said, picking up her phone. "But we'll talk more about this later. I expect you two to behave for the time being." She hugged her children tightly to recharge. She knew that she would be busy in the coming days.

Kristine and Christopher returned the hug, happy to see their mother again.

After their left the room, Kristine turned to Christopher. "You need to stop this," she said. "You're obsessed with getting Hatred points. This is the 'Devil AND Angel System', not just the Devil System."

"Why don't you help me pick up the slack then?" Christopher shot back. "Hatred Points are so much more useful than Love Points.

He thought the benefits of the Angel Lottery, like looks and charm, were good and all, but they were a bunch of fluff in comparison to what the Devil Lottery had to offer. They might make life a little easier, it would not be enough to save lives when things get tough. In fact, it may even put them in danger.

"I'm not going to help you bully people," Kristine insisted, her voice firm. "It's not right, and it could get us into serious trouble or worse, arrested."

Christopher saw the worry visible on his sister's face and it grated on him. "Fine," Christopher grumbled. "I'll try to control myself for now, but I'm not making any promises. The Hatred Lottery rewards are just too tempting."

"That's fine," Kristine said. "But we need to find another way to get Hatred Points. There has to be a better method."

Even though they weren't adults yet and the punishment wouldn't be as severe, Kristine didn't want to make their parents sad. She also didn't want to be separated from her brother. He was her other half.

Christopher sighed and reluctantly nodded. "You're right, sis. I'll find a better method to earn Hatred Points. We got plenty of time."

He knew his sister was being emotional but he still did not like to see her worried or sad. He would have to brainstorm better methods to obtain hatred points. His mind was already racing with possibilities. He knew he would have to be more subtle, cunning, and secretive.

"Thank you, Chris," Kristine said, smiling and embracing her brother. She was unaware of the gears turning in her brother's head as he began to scheme.

The sound of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.3 filled the music room as Peter Aronakis pounded away at the black and white piano keys. He lost in practice, alone in one of the school's many music rooms. His fingers danced over the keys with precision, displaying piano skills fit for one of Kristine's top pupils. He was about the reach the climax of the piece, he was suddenly interrupted by a knock on the door.

Peter paused his playing, sat up from the bench, and made his way to the door. He wondered who would dare to interrupt his practice at such a crucial part of the piece. When he opened the door, he paled at the sight of the person at the door. It was Christopher, Kristine's brother. Peter had seen videos of Christopher beating up the last boy who confessed to Christine.

"Hey, Chris. Are you looking for Kristine? I think she has a basketball game today," Peter said, swallowing nervously. As someone with a crush on Kristine, he was understandably nervous.

"Oh, I know," Christopher replied. "I knocked on the door to stop that terrible racket coming from in here. You call that Prokofiev?"

"I was just practicing," Peter snapped back defensively. "It's not my fault if you don't know how to appreciate classical music."

"Oh, I know how to appreciate it," Christopher smirked. Everything was playing out as he expected. "And I don't think you're good enough to be playing it."

Peter clenched his jaw as he felt a surge of anger. He knew he should just ignore Christopher's insult, he couldn't help but respond. "What do you know about music?" he retorted. "You're just a dumb jock."

Peter did not hold back with his insults. He had seen the video of Christopher and Kristine fighting and berating each other a few days ago. That meant Christopher was Kristine's enemy, so Peter considered him his enemy as well. He was unaware of how Christopher and Kristine had already made up.

Christopher smiled. "I grew up watching my sister Kristine practice and I picked up some piano skills of my own," he said confidently.

Peter was still skeptical. "Prove it. Let's see you try," he challenged, eager to see Christopher make a fool of himself. There was no way a dumb jock like Christopher could be as musically talented as his sister Kristine. He acknowledged that Christopher was a gifted athlete, but his grades were mediocre and he displayed no musical talents. He was nothing compared to his sister Kristine, who was a true triple threat in the field of sports, academics, and music.

But what Peter didn't know, was that if Christopher truly put his mind to it, he could do the same. He had the same college-level education and system skills that Kristine had.

"Got him." Christopher thought to himself as he walk into the music room. He was already relishing in the thought of gaining Hatred Points without repercussions.

By now, the other music students practicing in the nearby music rooms had taken notice of the conversation between the two. When they peered out of their doorways, they saw Christopher Williams hurling insults at Peter Aronakis. Peter was one of the school's top music students and a pupil of the prodigious Kristine Williams.

Many of them were envious of Peter's relationship with Kristine and his musical talents, so they were happy to see him being targeted by Christopher.

As the spectators began to gather outside the room, they began to wonder: "Is Christopher starting another fight?" "Is it because of Peter's close relationship with Kristine, his sister?"

They peered inside the room, they saw Christopher walking towards the piano bench.

"Can Christopher play the piano?" The group of music students wondered. It seemed Peter had challenged Christopher to prove his piano skills after he insulted his abilities to play a piano piece.

"No way, all he's got going for him is his looks and his ability to toss a basketball," a voice came from the crowd.

The crowd turned to see Anne, full name Li An Yue, another student of Kristine and a friend of Peter, had spoken those words. They silently agreed with her and believed that Christopher was about to embarrass himself.

When Christopher sat down at the piano, he could already see the system notifications popping into view.

530 Hatred Points from Peter Aronakis

380 Hatred Points from Li An Yue

He ignored them, quickly returning his attention to the sheet music in front of him.

As the crowd of students watched, they couldn't help but feel a sense of skepticism. But soon, such doubts were quickly silenced.

When Christopher began playing the opening notes of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.3, the makeshift audience was already in awe and their attention was immediately drawn to his hands. His fingers blurred as he moved across the keys with precision and grace, creating a flurry of notes without a single mistake. The first movement of this concerto was marked by its technical demands and Christopher was able to navigate through it effortlessly.

The second movement brought a change of pace, it was a more graceful melody played with a delicate touch. As Christopher's hands glided over the keys, both Peter and Anne could see the shadow of his sister, Kristine, in his playing style. It was a perfect replica of Kristine's playing style. As such, it was so flawless that the crowd couldn't find a single thing to criticize.

The final movement picked up the tempo. But Christopher's fingers still maintained a speed and precision that was almost hard to believe, and the audience could only stare in awe.

When the final chord struck, the crowd couldn't help but applause. Christopher's performance left the crowd speechless. He had given the perfect solo performance of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.3. It was clear to everyone that he hid the fact that he was a musical genius just like his sister.

After Christopher finished his performance, he turned to them with a smirk on his face, "Well, I guess talent runs in the family. And as for you, Peter, your playing is mediocre at best."

The crowd was shocked, not only by Christopher's impressive piano skills but also by his boldness in insulting Peter's abilities after his own display of talent. He was picking on the weaker person and it was a stark contrast to what they had just witnessed. His piano playing was exceptional but his attitude was not.

But Peter was not offended. He and Anne both worshiped talent, and Christopher had just proven that he was just as talented as his sister, Kristine. His skills were truly something to admire.

470 Love Points from Peter Aronakis

600 Love Points from Li An Yue

Christopher frowned when he saw these notifications. He had hoped to earn more Hatred Points from Kristine's students, but it seemed like a lost cause. This method was less likely to get him into trouble and he thought it was foolproof. The idea of "face-smacking" was something he had picked up from Chinese webnovels in his past life. There was nothing quite like the rush of someone exposing their hidden talents and proving others wrong with a display of skill and talent.

Unfortunately, it seemed that Peter and Anne were too humble to hold a grudge against him.

Christopher needed to find someone more egotistical who held grudges for a long time. But it was a lot harder than it looked. Even David, who he had physically assaulted, didn't hold a grudge against him anymore. His search would have to continue until he found an ideal subject to milk for Hatred Points.
