The Day I Hated You
Chapter 3 - College Days

Chapter 3 - College Days

I studied biology in high school, so I opted for BSc Chemistry. SNDP college was a great academic institution. On my first day, I was welcomed by many seniors outside the campus. I greeted them and made my way inside. The college had a big hall and I observed the structure. I had three years ahead of me here. I asked a senior about the first-year chemistry class and he guided me to the first floor. I thanked him and climbed the stairs. Suddenly, a boy bumped into me and then disappeared without an apology. It was Tevin. My first impression of him was arrogant. I hurried to my class and noticed that most students were already seated. The majority were girls, chatting in groups. I couldn't befriend someone so quickly. I chose to sit at the back. A boy from the second last bench grabbed my hand. I turned around and it was the same boy who had bumped into me on the stairs. I never expected us to be in the same class.

Sit next to me, please. This seat is free," he mentioned.

"No, I prefer sitting in the back, thanks," I replied.

He pulled me towards him and made me sit beside him. I didn't have much of a choice, and even if I did, I didn't want to create a scene on the first day. He kept staring at me. I checked my face to see if there was something on it. His gaze was starting to irritate me.

"Why are you staring at me?" I questioned.

"Nothing, I was just checking if you were okay," he responded.

"What do you mean?" I inquired.

"Hey, don't you remember me? I was the one who accidentally bumped into you on the stairs earlier. You forgot about it," he explained.

"Of course, how could I forget your face, the one who hurried away without even apologizing," I said angrily.

"Hey, I'm sorry about that," he apologized.

"Really? Apologies accepted. Thanks for letting me know." I was so furious with his words and sitting next to him was only fueling my anger.

"Hey, I'm really sorry. I was actually scared. I thought you were a senior. And I've heard that seniors here can be a bit tough. So, I was afraid that you might harm me. That's why I ran away. Please understand."

"So what? You're such a pain." I glare at him and say, "You know, it's basic manners to apologize. If you had been a senior, they would have given you a hard time because of your attitude."

He doesn't say anything and looks down. I realize that I was being harsh when he was trying to be nice. "Well, let's forget about it." I speak up. He looks at me and I continue, "I didn't realize we were in the same class. So, I was just a little shocked. I didn't mean to shout at you. I'm sorry if my words ever offended you."

"Hey, it's okay. You have every right to scold me. I was the one who messed up here. I apologize."

"You've already said it. It's fine, let's just move on." I smile and say.

"Alright." He grins in return. His smile is absolutely adorable, like that of a heavenly being. He turns towards me completely and introduces himself, saying, "Well, my name is Tevin."

"Kevin?"

"Not Kevin. It's Tevin. T instead of K," he clarifies.

"Hey Tevin, that's a nice name."

"And what about you?"

"I'm Rehaan. Nice to meet you," I reply.

We both lock eyes and shake hands on our first day. I didn't really want to be friends with him, I just wanted someone to talk to so I wouldn't be alone on my first day. But little did I know that he would become my closest friend for the next three years. I can't deny that he has a certain charm that no one can resist. Honestly, I've never had such an amazing friend in my entire life like him.

That day was pretty uneventful. The seniors came to our class and caused a little commotion, but they were nice. The teachers showed up and emphasized the importance of our subjects, raising our awareness. They went on about how fortunate we are to be here and shared many inspiring words about the different departments and the college. I didn't understand why the teachers felt the need to boast before starting the lesson. I couldn't tell if they were being genuine or not. It was entertaining to listen to, though. Sometimes I had to pretend to be impressed. But when I glanced at Tevin, he was the complete opposite of me. Whenever he felt like laughing, he just went for it. He wasn't a fan of the teachers gossiping, so he simply laid his head on the desk. I found myself intrigued by Tevin. It was refreshing to see someone who did whatever he pleased. I was convinced his parents must have spoiled him rotten.
