Chapter 25 - Uncomfortable Feelings

Home

Rehaan lay on the bed, catching his mother's attention. She approached Maahi and inquired about Rehaan's well-being.

"Maybe brother is concerned about me," Maahi replied, recounting the incident at the cafe.

Sitting beside her, Mother expressed her frustration with people's behavior nowadays. "I'll make sure to teach that person a lesson once we find out who's responsible."

"I feel the same way, mother" Maahi agreed.

Mother moved closer to Maahi. "Are you okay, dear?"

"Yes, mom, I was scared too," Maahi reassured her.

"Don't worry, it's not your fault, Maahi. Whoever did this will face consequences," Mother comforted her.

"I hope so, mom," Maahi said, placing her hand on Mother's shoulder. "But there was a silver lining."

"What's that, dear?"

"I got to see my idol, Tevin," Maahi shared.

Her mother's eyes widen upon hearing the name.

"Wait, who?" she asks.

"Mom, Tevin. The guy whose photo is in my room. My idol," Maahi explains.

"What happened then, Maahi? What about your brother?" Mother inquires.

"It was amazing to meet him in person, but my brother was distant towards Tevin. I know he doesn't like him, but he shouldn't have acted that way."

Her mother appears worried. Maahi observes her. "Mom, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, Maahi. I have some things to take care of. You just rest, okay?"

"Sure, Mom," she replies.

Mother hurried to Rehaan's room. Maahi noticed that she was tense. She entered the room and sat beside him.

"Mother," he said calmly, getting up to sit on the bed.

"Are you okay, son? I spoke to Maahi," Mother said.

"I...I am fine," he replied, looking at her. "Are you worried about Maahi?"

"No, I don't need to worry about Maahi when you are with her," she said, holding his hand. "She mentioned that you saw Tevin. Are you okay, son?"

"I'm okay, mom. I was just shocked because I never thought he would be there."

"Did you talk to him?"

"No, I was rude. I felt like he wanted to talk to me, but I didn't want to. I hate it."

Rehaan's mother called him over and sat down beside him. "Son, I understand that you dislike him and that's okay. But I don't want to see you in pain anymore," she said, holding his hands tightly. "You can avoid him if you hate him, but if you're not talking to him because you feel guilty, then I disagree. Rehaan, you did nothing wrong."

"Mom...I," Rehaan's voice broke.

"My dear, if you ever come across him again and he wants to talk, just go ahead. You don't have to hide away. Face him, have a conversation, and then come back. You're strong and you know it."

"What's the point, mom? It's all over. He ended it himself."

"Hmm, I understand," she replied. "But Rehaan, when we examine our problems closely, everything in life happens for a reason. You need to discover that."

"What do you mean, mom?" he inquired.

"

"I'm telling you this because I know you want to talk to him, but you're afraid of getting hurt again," the mother says.

"Mom, the way I spoke today, there's no way he wants to see me again," Rehaan replies.

"So you also want to resolve things with him, but something inside you is holding you back," the mother smiles. Rehaan remains silent.

"If he feels guilty, he will come to you, son," the mother reassures.

"But if he has a valid reason, do I have to forgive him, mom?" Rehaan asks.

She smiles. "That's up to you, son. It's your life. I just wanted to advise you not to avoid him, that's all," she explains. Rehaan nods.

"But Rehaan, always prioritize your own happiness. We love you," she says.

Rehaan smiles and hugs her, tears streaming down his face.

Outside the room, Maahi overhears everything. She returns to her own room and grabs the temporary phone she had been using. She opens the chat and sends a message to Sam. It's a new number that Maahi gave Sam to discuss the case.

Hey Senior, it's Maahi. Can we catch up? I have something important to discuss with you. she messages him.

Not long after, he replies. Sure, let's meet at the café we went to yesterday.

Great, see you tomorrow at 10:40 am. she responds. When she receives the okay emoji, she puts her phone away. She walks to her room and takes a seat.

"My brother has always been there for me. Now it's my turn to return the favor." She reflects.
