Chapter 13.1 : Ascendance

The Saint Pancras Female Orphanage, January 7, 1989.

After getting up from the bed, Diana began tidying herself up, making sure that she didn't look too horrible when she went out.

A moment after that, Diana picked up the torn photo, which she had previously left behind on her bed, and walked out of the room.

At this moment, Diana had decided on what to do, after all, a rich American couple was quite a good start, or so Diana thought.

Unlike what that 'Friend' of hers said, Diana did not begin walking to the Main Hall, rather, she slightly moved her nose.

A few moments after that, Diana suddenly sensed two unfamiliar scents nearby, causing a faint smile to appear on her face.

'That should be them,' thought Diana, as she suddenly began walking in that direction.

...

As she looked at the empty walls of the orphanage, Noah Miller felt as if her heart was about to crack in half.

"These poor children, how could people abandon them," mumbled Noah as she clenched her fist, anger visible on her face.

"You shouldn't be so angry, you never know what circumstances led to them coming here," said James as he looked at his wife.

Hearing James' words, Noah frowned and was just about to berate him, when suddenly, she took a step back, as her body met another object.

Seeing this, James quickly stretched out his hands and caught his wife, causing his eyes to move to her feet, widening.

After seeing that his wife was no longer about to fall to the ground, James suddenly moved his hands, and now began helping the little girl who had collided with her.

"Noah, you should be more careful, look what you did!!" said James as he picked the little girl up from the ground.

Looking at the little girl, who was touching her leg with her tiny hand, tears in the corners of her eyes, Noah immediately jumped to her help.

"It's alright, it's alright, don't cry, don't cry..." said Noah as she took the little girl from James' arms and held her in her own.

Causing her to finally begin calling down.

Suddenly though, the girl looks at her palms, causing tears to well up at the corner of her eyes.

Seeing this, James looked at the ground, noticing a photo, which had fallen nearby.

After picking up the photo, James suddenly noticed something.

"Noah, is everything alright?" asked James as she looked at his wife, a rather concerned look on his face.

At this moment, Noah was staring at the eyes of the little girl, her pupils dilating, as she seemingly did not hear James' words.

A moment later, James approached his wife and looked into the eyes of the girl as well, causing his pupils to dilate.

As he stared into those pure red pupils, James seemingly lost consciousness, as he entered a trance, causing the photo in his hands to fall to the ground.

Seeing this scene, a faint smile appeared on Diana's face, causing the tears in her eyes to disappear.

...

Feeling the envious gaze of the few girls around her, Diana couldn't help but smile whilst sitting in the lap of her new mother.

At this moment, James was finalizing the documents for the adoption, as such, Diana finally got some new alone time with her new mother.

"Diana, if you need or want anything, you can tell Mother, and she'll get it for you," said Noah as she looked at the little girl in her arms.

The moment Noah learned that Diana's original mother was an alcoholic who neglected her before committing suicide, she had become determined to adopt the little girl, no matter what.

After only a few moments of talking, both she and her husband decided, they would adopt Diana, at all costs.

After all, with the new business deal that James was signing here in London, they could easily manage it, as Noah would probably no longer have to involve herself in the business

"I don't need anything," mumbled Diana as she let herself fall asleep into the embrace of her new mother, causing the latter to smile.

...

Looking at the streets of London, which were much narrower than the American streets he was used to, James couldn't help but shake his head, as he then turned his attention back to his wife as well as his new daughter, who was sleeping nearby.

"Noah, I still need to go to the business meeting today, you go and take Diana back to the London apartment, I should be back by 9," said James, causing Noah to nod.

"I know, though, by the time you come back, she should already be asleep," mumbled Noah in a quiet tone, fearing that she would wake up their new daughter.

Hearing this, James let out a slight chuckle before shaking her head.

...

Looking at the huge, spotlessly clean apartment, Diana's mouth gaped open.

After all, although she knew that her new parents were rich, she didn't know the sheer extent of it.

"Diana, follow me," said Noah, as she grabbed Diana's hand and began walking to a certain door.

What greeted Diana and Noah after opening the door was a large room, with a full king-sized bed in the middle.

"As this apartment is rather small, you'll have to live here for now but don't worry, after we finish the immigration your immigration process, we can move back to America, where you will have some more space to roam around," said Noah as she looked at the little girl, a faint smile appearing on her face.

Looking at the shocked little girl, the smile on Noah's face disappeared, causing her to bend down to the same level as the girl

"Diana, you'll have to get used to this lifestyle, otherwise I won't be able to spoil you," said Noah, as she kissed Diana on the forehead.

Hearing these words, Diana couldn't help but take in a deep breath, still not over her shock.
