18.1 : Trapped

As they walked into the office of Joseph Joestar, both Alexander Pierce and Warren Patrick could feel sweat begin falling down their foreheads.

Even though Joseph Joestar was usually extremely nice, ever since the death of his grandson, he had been in a terrible mood.

At the beginning this wasn't so bad, but after two weeks straight of daily reports, all of which had shown more and more failures, Joseph's bad mood became even worse, especially when the daily report came in.

Even more unfortunately, Alexander and Warren were the two people that had to give Joseph the report every single day.

As one might imagine, this caused Joseph to become more irritated as soon as he saw the duo.

...

The moment he saw the two men walk into the room, Joseph placed down the document he was reading and stared at them.

"Alexander, what is our current progress in finding the suspect's parents?" asked Joseph, already knowing the answer to this question.

Hearing the question, Alexander took in a deep breath.

"Even though we have continued searching alongside the police, we have not found any clues so far," said Alexander, causing Joseph to grit his teeth.

After a few moments, though, Joseph could finally not bear it anymore.

"I understand why you could not find the suspect, who is currently in Russia, but is it so difficult to find two completely normal people, is every single person in the Speedwagon foundation incompetent?!" asked Joseph as he stared at the two men with an aggrieved look on his face.

Hearing the words of the old man, both Alexander and Warren lowered their heads.

"I understand, very well, continue your search for the two, finding any clues related to them might lead us to find the suspect herself," said Joseph, causing Alexander to nod.

"Now, what is your progress with Russia?" asked Joseph as he looked at Warren, causing the latter to also slightly lower his head.

"Even though Russia has already informally agreed to cooperate with the Interpol to search for the target, its bureaucracy is still taking it's time to make the agreement formal, there is nothing we can do to speed this process up," said Warren, causing Joseph to remain silent.

Unlike before, this time, although he was still angry, Joseph knew that Warren could do nothing, and that the chokehold which was delaying this operation was on the side of the Russians.

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Damn communists, they are even worse than the Japanese," mumbled Joseph as he clenched his teeth.

Out of sheer instinct, Warren wanted to remind Joseph that Russia was no longer communist, but after a few moments of thinking and looking at Joseph's current state, he silently retracted that idea.

Even though Joseph was already expecting this result, it still took him a few minutes to fully regain his calm after hearing of yet another failure.

"Very well, you can go now, the moment any important breakthrough happens, you should report to me, at the same time, continue with the daily reports, now if you have nothing else to add, you are dismissed," said Joseph as he once again picked up a document from the desk.

A moment later, the two men retreated from the office, temporarily unscathed.

...

As she stared at the TV in front of her, which was broadcasting Japanese news, Haru couldn't help but take in a deep breath.

Right now, Haru felt quite depressed as she stared at the room in around her.

Of course, this was not caused by the living conditions provided to her, rather, it was the opposite.

At the moment, Haru was living like a queen, based on her estimates, just the TV in front of her, which was quite huge, probably cost around 2 to 3 months of her wages.

No, the reason why Haru was feeling depressed was very simple, freedom.

Even though she was living in what looked like a huge apartment, in fact, Haru was still living on that Russian military base.

From every single breath Haru took, to every single action she made, no matter how small, all of these were under the eyes of other people.

Although Lady Diana had assured Haru that a female soldier was supervising her, this did not make Haru feel any better in the slightest, in fact, it did the opposite.

As such, even though she was quite interested in computers, Haru had barely touched the expensive computer sitting in a corner of her new home, as she knew that even though it was connected to the internet, it did not make Haru any more free.

Not only that, Haru was also allowed to go out of her room and walk through the military base at will, as long as she did not disturb the soldiers or go to any areas that were restricted, making her acutely aware of what chances Haru had of escaping.

Even though the chances were slim, back when she was living inside the basement of Koji's mansion, Haru still had a tiny chance at escaping, but this was not the case here, not in the slightest.

Every twenty meters Haru walked through the military base, she would encounter a soldier, armed to the teeth.

At this very moment, though, Haru was suddenly broken out of her thoughts, as a knock was heard from the door to her room.

The moment Haru heard the knock, she immediately got up from the expensive leather sofa she was lying down on.

"I'm coming," said Haru, making the knocking on the door stop.

...

As she watched Haru finish healing Jotaro to the best of her ability, nearly passing out in the process, a faint smile appeared on the face of Diana.

In an instant, Diana had appeared next to Haru, helping her stand up and sitting her down on a nearby bench, which had especially prepared for this.

After making sure that perhaps the most valuable person on this entire military base was fine, Diana turned her attention back onto Jotaro, who had just been healed by Haru.

If a normal person were to look at Jotaro at this moment, they would scream in fear, as he looked like a nightmarish monster, but compared to two weeks ago, a large amount of rot had clearly disappeared, as his flesh had regenerated.

"Hopefully things go as well in the future as they are going now," mumbled Diana as she watched Haru get up from the bench.
