Chapter 34 : Second Trial Commences

Uncrossing his arms in order to release him from the defensive position he had assumed earlier. Alec found himself standing on a solid marble floor, instead of the giant's palm. Where he thought he was about to be crushed in between earlier.

Presently suffering through the worst headache he ever had since college, he looked around in order to be able to distract from it. Not even surprised at the change in scenery, only tired and confused as to why it kept happening. His mind was toughened after going through similar ordeals before.

'Should I just make it a habit of suffering through impossible situations, and then ending up in someplace, who knows where?'

Keeping that thought in the back of his head, Alec looked around to make a quickly analysis of his position. Turning around to take a look he recognised himself to be within four walls, all of them connected and made out of weathered bricks.

Just not enough to be called a room, since there was no roof at the top. Letting the star filled sky to be completely visible, allowing Alec to be able see a dark sky without any clouds for once.

Gaining a little more composure with that, he looked at the mess of various things scattered around him. The few items he could see in the dim lighting included a large pile of blankets, some fibre sacks that were empty, and a couple more objects that he found to be unimportant.

Despite the visible mess he was easily able to find the door, that looked to be completely nailed shut. Though his attention was quickly caught by the display items, present on a shelf at the wall next to the door.

Only the items that were on the shelf were in a clean and pristine condition. Most of it included either sharp, or blunt weapons of various types. Among all it Alec's attention went to an unlit lantern there, which had an intricate looking rope tied to it.

Stretching his arm forward, Alec reached out to the object using the invisible force. Creating a link through the gesture and keeping the object in his sight.

Slowly the item was lifted out of the shelf floated towards him, and right as it was about to come in contact with it he heard.

"Treat that lantern gently, please. It's my favourite one."

Hearing a rough but an aged person's voice, he stopped the object by keeping it in midair. Moving his head to look the source of the voice he heard, which turned out to be under the blankets.

Taking a few steps away from it Alec untied the rope, preparing to either attack or run based on how loud the sound of forewarning may be. Which although did not work earlier was not at fault, since he faced no physical harm by that ink blob of giant.

The blankets shifted slightly, revealing an ivory lizard skull with empty eye sockets and a slightly open mouth. Tensing at the frightening visage, Alec was relieved to see it was merely a helmet. As the rest of the body emerged from the blanket, he felt at ease but did not change his stance or readiness to use Invocation.

Under the lizard skull, which covered this person's entire face, though it resembled more of a dragon's skull at second glance. The individual seemed to be wearing a red toga over a white tunic, and a fur shawl that was quite similar to a cape.

Standing a head taller than Alec, the figure looked to be more well built than him.

"You can take the rope if you want, that's fine. It holds very little sentimental value to me, same goes for any other weapon if you may fancy."

Not taking his eyes off the other party despite what was said, Alec channeled the power of Invocation, as he made a link of every single brick in the wall behind him. At which the dragon helmet wearing individual whistled, and moved his head to look past Alec and at the wall.

"Better than expected control. It shows why you are here so early, and not a week later like I had assumed. Though, splitting focus like this is not good."

Without any prior notice, the other party stopped speaking and ran at him with blinding speed. Closing in on Alec, then stopped just a few short of him, not harming him in any way but breaking the focus behind the Invocation he had made. Before continuing to speak again, that in a few words had his entire attention.

"You could have put all your focus on the first brick and made the spell much simpler. Think of it this way, let's say if you have a task to move a number of objects. Now you push each of them directly and they will be moved. But the task could be done if you moves one object, and then transfer force directly from it. Now think, oh-looks like you got it."

Alec had already used the invocation once again, taking control of the brick wall behind him. This time he centred it around the very first brick he took control of, making it so that the all similar shaped objects it was touching would move same as it.

Although it sacrificed a little control to make it do other tasks, the speed and power at which the bricks would launch would be the highest. Though before he got to test it, the other party spoke first.

"Great job. Now don't go breaking apart my wall or something. There are ton of things for which both of us have to give answers, and there are far better places to do it then here. Follow after me."

Shifting past Alec and picking up slippers to wear, that were also on the shelf, the other party then crouched a little and flew into the air to Alec's open astonishment.

Following with his eyes as far as he could see, the figure became nothing more than a dot. That dot then reversed course, almost as if a video tape was playing backward, slowing down before landing in front of him gently. The Dragon Skull wearing man's clothes fluttered behind him, stopping moments later and asking a question in confused tone.

"Why didn't you follow after me?"

At which Alec took a brief pause before responding.

"I can't fly."

This answer seemed greatly unexpected to the other party, as he asked something which Alec thought the other party would not know.

"Then how did you cross the sea so fast?"

Alec's eyebrows were furrowed as he felt a rising suspicion, but nothing that he could accurately pinpoint towards. Making him speak in much more reserved tone.

"I sailed on a boat which I had build."

At the simple answer which did not tell much, the Dragon skull wearing individual nodded his head. Seemingly having understood a lot, as he then said.

"It must have been a decent boat. What did you call it?"

To which his brows became slightly less tense, and he answered the question with pride in his voice.

"The name I had chosen for it was, 'Forever Incomplete'."

"Great name. Now, since you can't fly just tie the rope on your waist to my arm."

Doing so without asking any questions, especially after seeing how the party had took flight. Alec then tied the rope to himself in a manner it was safe, something he learned after having tied himself to a number of fast moving objects.

Soon as him doing so the face covered toga wearing individual took flight. As him and Alec travelled through air, achieving speeds which were faster than Alec had flown in. Quickly passing by a settlement that was below their flight path, which he recognised so due to various light sources spread around in there.

In front Alec saw a mountain that they kept getting closer to, until the person carrying him landed them there. The speed of flight made Alec slightly disoriented, which he quickly recovered from having accumulated a decent experience by now.

The place where they landed was in the middle of the forest, where after walking a little bit Alec could see a sparring ground. That even had seats carved out of tree stumps, that were placed in the outer periphery.

With both of them getting there, the other party spoke.

"I'm a warrior by trade. The best way for me to introduce you is here. This is your second trial-Wait, you wouldn't know that. Let me first of all remove that stupid memory restraint on you."

With a single swipe of hand from the individual in front of him, there was a subtle change in expression Alec. As he quickly felt like something had just fell in place. His immediate next thought was.

'Oh, I remember.'
