Chapter 2 : Light Stroll

After the spider like demon spoke, a small period of silence followed.

Then looking right ahead as it continued moving, it picked at the web close to Alec's left arm. And grabbed loose a single string off it.

Which after releasing lengthened, twisted and turned by itself in air. Making loops that resembled various letters, all connected by the line of string underneath.

Some sticked together while other took gaps, thereby turning into a series of words. That became a fully formed sentence stating.

Read this carefully as I show you. It will bring you a compensation and help make up for your present disadvantage.

The loop untied by itself, and got remade on its own. Showcasing a different sentence now.

As for the compensation just let it be that small device. Which I had to break to access the great web of your world.

The string of words were in front of Alec's vision, remaining in air while looping back to the web over his left arm. Allowing him to gaze at it fully. He was a fast reader, so it did not take that much time.

'Small device as compensation? And what does it mean by the great web? This can't...'

Multiple questions began to pop in his mind, which he addressed before forming any words to respond. The sentence then changed once again.

Now you should say 'who summoned you and why'. We are soon reaching the end of the cave.

Looking at this for a few seconds longer than he needed, Alec allowed his mind to catch up to the situation.

Deciding on the important questions, based on what he just read, he spoke composedly.

"By the great web do you mean the internet, and that small device is it my smartphone? Oh-and who summoned you and why?"

Alec said the last question very stiffly. The same way as an inexperienced actor would, saying his given lines for the very first time. To which the web changed, and showed to him.

Yes and also yes. It was thanks to that device you called smart phone. The one who summoned me was the representative will of your world.

As soon as Alec read this and began to open his mouth, the web swiftly changed its shape. Much quicker than how it did so previously.

Do not make any questions regarding it for your own safety.

This sentence made him swallow his words. In the ensuing silence that followed, the string of web formed into this.

Just know that I am not from this world and my presence here is temporary. By helping you like this I am helping myself.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

However, none of this actually resolved Alec's deep confusion. Making him frustrated enough to finally say.

"Please tell me. Why is this happening to me?"

That is because of your uniqueness. The power you have awakened may be unknown to you. But you will be learn about it quickly I guarantee.

Alec looked slightly introspective before saying.

"You mean my telekenesis, right? So it was really the source of all this."

It is not something as limited as telekenesis. What you have is

The web was shaky at the end, and got loose in there for a second. Meanwhile the spider demon stopped in its tracks. Soon Alec saw smoke coming off it, from the torso of his holder. With a tinge of burning smell following after.

"Are you... alright?", Alec couldn't help but ask.

Do not worry. My condition would not matter in a little time. Now what you have is a skill called Invocation. Such skills are unique and only one individual in a world can possess theirs at a time.

With the web this was conveyed to Alec. Then the spider demon began moving, albeit a little slower than before.

The subsequent quiet became a little uncomfortable to Alec, so he asked.

"So what are these 'skills'?", to which he was then generously explained.

It has multiple names and multiple more meanings. Some call it power others call them techniques. Skill is just another such abbreviation. At the end it is on the bearer to decide theirs.

By now Alec had gotten pretty used to asking questions. To this entity, whom he feared not that long ago.

"Do you have one such yourself? What do you have to do to get one?"

Both of us possess the same. I call mine an art. The art of Invocation. Most of us are born with it and awaken it some point in life. Usually during a life and death scenario. You must have too.

'He said too, does that mean it was at gunpoint at some point as well? Should I? Nah, it would be too rude to ask.'

After having that thought to himself, Alec said.

"Yes, I did. But wait, you told only one individual can have theirs at a time. Then why is it we have the same?"

Only one individual in a world. Emphasis on the world as solitary. I am from a different one. Within the vast universe one or two individuals are usually bound to have the same skill.

Through their short journey in the cave, the brightness continued to rise. Until the current point when it was at its greatest. The source of that was finally visible to Alec, as he saw two rotating circles of many glowing words.

'That explains the light source of this place. But what are these magic looking symbols for? Other than making this place feel cozy, perhaps.'

All these words or symbols were completely unknown to Alec. Looking nothing better than just bright scribbles, present on the ground without any rhyme or reason. Of the two circles there was a really big difference in size.

One that was larger had brighter and bigger, but slowly rotating symbols. Meanwhile, the smaller one had less luminous but faster rotating ones.

Through this lengthy observation of Alec, the web changed and set itself in his line of sight.

Now it is time for parting. Back when I was in this very situation I was told 'Remember to live well grow strong and come back home. Oh new Invoker'.

Shifting once more by itself, in front of his eyes. The single line of web created very many loops.

You can still follow that. But I will tell you this Alec Willows. With understanding in your heart and pride in your words. Roam the many worlds as you deem fit. Oh new Invoker.

Putting Alec down on the smaller circle, and walking right in the middle of the bigger one. The spider like - but no longer demon to him - being finally used its voice again.

"It. Will. Be. Prefer-able. To. Close. Your. Eyes. Here-on."

Hearing that grating sound, Alec had to clench his teeth a little. During which the spider like being moved one of its arms.

Performing a pulling motion the web of cocoon got unravelled by it. As it came off of Alec, and flinged itself towards its owner. Who then collected it in one of its claw nail, making the web thoroughly disappear.

With a slack jawed expression, after he loosened his clenched teeth from earlier, Alec absentmindedly nodded. Heeding the given advice, and therefore closing his eyes. Not soon after that he felt a sinking like sensation.

From thereon what Alec did not saw, was that he had actually began to sink. Slowly into the now chalk white surface of the ground, within the small circle.

On the other side within the bigger circle, the entity that set him there was constricted. By none other than those many large symbols. Which earlier made up the large circle, and had encroached closer and closer. Until they were now upon it, covering its body thoroughly with a few overlaps.

The light from those symbols turned white to yellow, yellow to orange, and soon orange to dark red. Alec had meanwhile nearly sunk fully into the ground. The glow on the symbols beside him, had also mostly dulled.

Moments after the dark red turned into black, and Alec had sink into ground completely. The symbols around him no longer gave off a glow.

A series of cracks, in the shape of those symbols on it, started to form on the body of the eight legged creature. With a humanoid torso, that possessed many demonic features. Including the sharp claws on its hands, rough chitin like skin, and three pairs of evenly split eyes.

Starting from the head, then through the entire upper body, and going further down to each of its legs. It quickly reached a state of fracture, but none of its parts fell or seperated.

Appearing like a broken art piece of a bygone era it went still, although there was an invisible activity going on. With a bunch of electrical energy accumulating sluggishly.

The reason for that would make itself known with due time.
